As they entered the next room, they noticed it was empty. Expect for one thing, a very familiar leather recliner. The arm rests are only a little more worn than you remember. A holo projector protrudes from the ceiling, aimed at the empty space in front of the chair. Menta taking the initiative as she realized this was her fathers old chair, went to go sit down in it. As soon as she did the holo projector began to play, and victors face appeared and began to talk.
“Hey there, princess's and prince. If you’re seeing this, then my wrinkled old ass has finally kicked the bucket. I hope guys aren’t too torn up over it; I’ve lived a long full life, longer than most people are lucky enough to live. Do me a favor and knock back a whiskey for me after this,” the phantom image of your father says. A hand clips in front of his face as he rubs at his age-silvered goatee. “Unfortunately, while I am seeing that your mother is taken care of, I’m not just handing the company over to any of you. Not yet, anyway.”
Menta continued to watch as her sister stood to the side of her watching, she glanced at the codex and injector wondering what her father had planned.
“I know you guys probably been too busy to keep up on the news, with the work I’ve pushed you all into, but the fourteenth planet rush ought to be starting about now.” A note appears over the recording, indicating the planet rush started almost two months ago, though most gates have only started going online in the past few weeks. “I have to make sure you’ve grown into a woman and men worthy of running the business, Menta, Meena, and Steven. So I’m putting you three through what I went through, after a fashion. If you want to take over the company, you’re going on the planet rush!”
Menta eyes widen in surprise from what she heard, looking to her brother and sister. Well that least explains why her father gave her and her sister the choices for jobs.
“Maki should have given you three the Codex's and immune boosters by now. I’m sure the V.I. inside it has already explained what it can do for you, but to summarize: it’s going to be your best friend. You can use it to stake claims on untapped minerals and resources that the boys back home will run through the legal system. We’ll deliver you a stipend on each usable discovery.”
Victor coughs repeatedly, holding a rag up in front of himself that darkens with what would could be assumed to be flecks of blood in the monochromatic recording. Menta wondered why her father didn't chose a color holo. His coughs clear up and he continues, “Sorry, health isn’t what it used to be.” He laughs after that, realizing that for them, he’s dead. “Anyhow, the immune boosters. Those micro-scale bots will reproduce in your guys body and safeguard it from some of the worst the universe can throw at you. They aren’t perfect, and more benign infections might slip through, but they’ll keep any of you from catching rot lung from a Trinerian. A word of caution: they’ll help you digest things that would normally be impossible for a human, but they’ll splice you to do it. You eat the wrong native foods, and you’ll wind up looking like a native. You might even start to feel like one, mentally. I’m told it’s like forced, convergent evolution.”
Menta sighed as she deiced if she take the immune boosters.
This recording is set up to repeat until you do it, kids.”
Menta and Meena sighed at the same time, injecting themselves, they waited for there brother to inject himself. "Come on bro! lets not have this repeat." Menta told her brother.
