Am I sure of how hot and humid it gets? Yes, yes I am. Am I saying your town can't beat it? Not at all! I'm just saying, the Midwest can get the worst of both worlds!

Well, if I recall, "colors" usually has some reference to a flag ceremony of some sort. Either that, or some kind of uniform-wearing display of some sort. Hero's in the Navy right now, so I figure there's flag-related stuff all the time, as well as uniformed maneuvers. He's probably referring to something like that that happens in the afternoon.

Colors is the ceremonial raising or lowering of the flag. Afternoon colors hits right as the galley opens and is irksome because you're required to stand at attention and salute if you're outside. I get caught outside often as I try and run my arse to food before it sounds.
