You are my angel (Candira and Kade)

Devlin was adorable to her as she watched him. She smiled and brushed his hair out of his face as he slept. Exceedingly glad that she was his guardian, Helena stayed by his side, relaxing in his arm. She wondered at his ability to accept it all. She blamed some of his pain meds and knew that the rest came from his willingness to keep an open mind. Plus, it was pretty hard to ignore her now. She wanted so badly to give in to her instincts, but she looked away sadly, knowing that it couldn't be. She used her touch to send healing waves through his body, hoping that it would speed things up quite a bit.

When he woke up he felt even better than before and he saw her just moving his hair out of his face, and he smiled, "Good morning. You know, you should have slept too. I gotta tell you, that was the best I've slept in a long time...Well you probably already knew that." He said laughing, "I sometimes forget how much you really know about me." He said as he looked at her, "What's wrong?" He asked noticing that she had a sad look on her face before she tried to hide it when he woke up. "Helena tell me what's bothering you?"

"It just bothers me too see you like this," she said, frowning. "In all your life the worst thing you've been in the hospital for is having your tonsils out." She was being honest, it really was hurting her to see him in such rough shape. But it wasn't the reason she looked sad. Being an angel, she knew how to convey the truth without telling all of it at once. He really didn't need to know how attracted she was to him. It would only make things harder for both of them. "I'm glad you've been sleeping well, at least," she said with a smile.

He looked at her, "You did all you could Helena. Stop beating yourself up over it, I don't care. I'm just happy to be alive and to be able to see you." He said as he looked at her smiling before he went back to resting against her, "Well you should be glad, it's your doing. I only sleep that good when I know you're around, and I sleep even better with you in my arms. Its funny how that works, but I don't really care, you make me happy." He said as he smiled at her.

She smiled and sat up, pushing some hair behind her ears as she turned to look at him. "I make you happy? Just because you know I'm here?" Her eyes closed and she smiled, shaking her head. "Technically, you only had me in one of your arms." Clearly she was trying to lighten things up a little bit. "You know...I was lonely for a long time--even when I was protecting you. I'm glad you can see me now too."

He laughed as he looked at her, "Very happy. To know that now I'm never alone. I mean I wasn't then either, but now I really know it." He said as he looked at her with a soft chuckle, "That's true, but at least you were close to him, that was nice." He said as he laughed, "I'm sorry, I could imagine how lonely it must have been. But I see you clearly now." He said smiling at her.

She smiled and patted his shoulder as she heard foot steps. It still wasn't visiting hours. "I'll be with you," she said before loosing the human form and turning back to her winged self. A nurse came in to check on him and carried a tray full of hospital food. "Oh, good mornin' darlin'. Don't you worry, you'll be good as new soon. Now you eat up so you can make a quick recover, honey. Some poor girl's probably crying her eyes out for you somewhere," she said with a smile. She put the tray on a holder for him and rolled it over before leaving the room again, just as friendly as last time.

"Well, it looks like I'll have to come back as myself during visiting hours. Until then, you'll just have to deal with me being like this."

He was sad when she disappeared as he liked having her around, but he could still see her though he couldn't say anything till the nurse left. "I sure hope so, I mean I hate being cooped up." He said as he looked at her, "And she's coming today, during visiting hours. I wanted her to come earlier and sleep with me, but she said that they wouldn't let her in. Its hard to sleep without her by my side." He said softly as he looked at her nurse, "Thanks for the food." He said as he began to eat while he looked over at her.

"Please do. It would be nice to have you back in my arm." He said as he looked at her, "I guess I can do that." He said softly.

Helena chuckled. "Well, seeing as you only have one hand to eat with anyway, you should see it as a blessing in disguise." The angel got up and stretched her wings, their considerable span just barely contained in the room. "So how is your breakfast?" she asked, looking around the exceptionally dull room.

He shrugged, "It's all right. Food is hospitals is never very good. It would be nice if I could order something you know. Or get something from the burger joint down the street. They make the best bacon cheeseburgers." He said as he looked at her and then went back to eating the food set before him.

She chuckled. "Well, there is a reason they feed you what they do," she said with a smile. "But I can implant a little idea in your mom's head to bring you something a little bit better." Helena smiled and watched him eat, glad that he still seemed to have a healthy appetite.

He looked at her, "Why's that?" He asked never really understanding why hospital food had to taste so weird. "They could hire a chef, oooh I could do that!" He said laughing softly, "I'll suggest that to the doctor, see what he says you know? And thanks for doing that. My mom will know what to bring me." He said smiling.

Helena smiled and sent the notion to Devlin's mother to bring along something that he would enjoy a little more than hospital food, but still healthy. "They're just trying to make sure that you get the nutrients you need in specifically sized proportions. They don't really care about the taste as much because it just costs more money." She shrugged and relaxed on the bed, still next to him.

He nodded, "But I'd take the chef job for very little money as long as I got health benefits you know. Like if I hurt myself I could come here for free!" He said with a small smirk, "Ah my plot is unraveling." He said with a joking laugh as he looked up to her, "Come back soon, I miss having someone in my bed, you in my bed." He said as he felt her presence but nothing more. It kind of disappointed him.

"Visiting hours start in one hour. I think you can go without me for that long," she said with a chuckle. Her lips curved into a smile and she wondered if maybe he liked the idea of having a pretty girl in his bed more than the idea of her anywhere near him. She relaxed and stretched out, closing her eyes. "Besides, your mother's coming soon. Wouldn't it be kind of awkward to explain suddenly having a girlfriend again?"

He looked at her and shook his head, "I would just say that I had been with you for awhile and I never told her about it. I just wanted to see where it was going you know?" He said smiling, "Besides she'll just be so happy that I have someone. And who could be sweeter than an angel?" He asked with a very happy grin. He had outweighed Helena's logic and proven that he knew his mother well enough to get away with some stuff.

Helena sighed, clearly defeated and shrugged. "I'll appear again soon then," she said, watching him. "Now finish your silly hospital food, mister," she said, sitting up again and stretching.

((I feel bad for such short posts, but I don't know what else to say.))

((No, I do, it's just...we're moving kind of slow, so I'm running out of ways for her to react.))

((Well, for now, we could just do a quick time skip to the visiting hours and then move on from there to when he actually gets out of the hospital.))

(Sure)

When the time came it was visiting hours again and he heard his mom come running in with some food for him. He smiled, "Thanks a lot mom." He said as she nodded, "I figured you'd probably get hungry because this hospital crap isn't very good." She said as she gave him the food. He looked at her and nodded, "My girlfriend should be stopping by in a little bit.."

His mother seemed surprised at the news of a girlfriend stopping by. She hadn't known that he was dating, but she was just happy that he seemed happy--just as Devlin had predicted. Taking her cue to exit, Helena flew through the door and into the bathroom on that floor, materializing in a stall before walking out past the desk in her human form, still wearing the same thing that she'd shown up in that morning. Her hair was still loose and flowing as she knocked on the door and entered, smiling at Devlin and his mother.

He smiled as he looked at her, "Mom this is Helena, my girlfriend." He said as he motioned for her to come over to him. When she finally he gave her a big hug and then kissed her deeply. After he finished he whispered in her ear, "I'm sorry, but I want her to really believe that we're dating. She wouldn't if we didn't kiss, as she knows how I am." He said softly before he laughed, "So do you." He said as he kissed her again and then looked at his mom, "She's great isn't she?"

Helena smiled as she came to his bedside, clearly surprised when he reached over and kissed her. After a few moments of his lips pressed against hers, she relaxed and kissed him back as his mother watched. She blushed a bit and pushed her hair out of her face. She kissed him again as she was introduced and smiled at his mom. "It's nice to meet you, ma'am," she said sweetly. His mother seemed thrilled, enthralled by the lie that was their relationship.
