Jackie chewed her bottom lip and looked away in embarrassment as Sam and her mother talked about her. When Sam asked if she was ready she nodded, but couldn't help it when she heeled Silver into action. Leaning down to pat his side, Jackie gently heeled her own pinto and shook the reigns.
"C'mon, Paint," she sighed. "Let's go catch up with the show-offs." With another wave to her mother Jackie followed behind.

"Shit..."
Jackie pulled her bandanna up over her nose and mouth to avoid breathing in the dust. With a sigh she retrieved a leather sack from her saddlebag and helped to scoop the remains into it. She'd been hoping for bodies to bring back to the families, but this appeared to be about it. Once they'd scraped up as much as they could of the ashes she straightened and dusted her hands off.
"So what're we gonna do?" she asked. "Hand 'em a scoop of the ashes and say 'sorry, dunno if this is your husband but it's the best we could do'? Not exactly a comfort to the families, kemosabe."
