Tag: Helmut Gregor, Jinx
Helmut mentally noted down everything Jinx was saying. She was happy, light. He had a momentary pang of curiosity. This kind of happiness, this enthusiasm...would she have been like this? He banished that thought from his mind. He didn't have time for that right now. There was work to be done. Important work! And he had to stay sharp.
"Dr. Corben is a fine man. A little to...restrained at times, but even that has it's place." Helmut admit. There was a flicker of hesitation. This girl seemed to think well of him. How long had it been since he'd had a moment ilke that? What had brought him to this moment? And further, the more he thought about it, what had brought him to this level of self-pitying examination? There was research to eb done, a sample to be taken, and the world to change by doing it. He opened the door to the room they had been heading towards.
Sight and sound. Those were the thigns that allowed Jinx to do what she did. Tools had been gathered for this. His hand came out of his pocket, and the culr of dark material swept in. Hitting the side of her head it snapped into place, unrolling along her head, adn snapping into place over her eyes. His hands came up, a small item in each one.
"One last test. It's easier if you go along." He told her, before he fed the items into her ears. Shaped plugs, active noise cancellation to create a perfect barrier to her hearing anything. His hands caught ehr forearms to prevent her from pulling anything free.
Orderlies came in, siezing her arms, adn bodily hauling her off fo the floor, adn taking her to a chair, seating her roughly, and then getting her strapped to the arms. A heavy strap came along her forehead to keep her from thrashing her head around. Gregor was calmly putting on a surgical mask, and pulling gloves on.
"She'll be a bit of trouble for now, but once we sedate her she should be fine to work on." One of the surgeons said with a nod. Gregor shook his head.
"No time. Did you bring the Soma I asked for?" Gregor asked. The surgeon only stared at him a moment, but nodded.
"Yes, it's a large amount, but-"
"Good, move." He stepped to past teh other doctor, lifting the syringe. He stepped up and inserted the needle into Jinx arm, and depressed the plunger.
Soma flooded her veins, flowing into her, the powerful, and fast acting muscle relaxtant getting into her quickly, throwing her body into a nearly limp state, but one that left her largely awake. He withdrew the needle, adn then moved off to lift a marker, drawing a small spot on her head, right at the part of her hair. The staff came in, one using a razor to carefully shave the small patch. It was at teh part, so very little hair came free, but it left a clear patch.
"Local." Gregor ordered. A numbing agent was worked into the spot, taking the sensation out of the skin. Gregor stepped in, using a scalpel to cut the skin, right to the bone. WHIle the skinitself might not have feeling, he had no doubt that Jinx would feel the blade scrape bone. He peeled the flap of skin back, and held out a hand. the head surgeon looked uncomfortable, but one of the other staff pressed the needed tool into Gregor's hand. Gregor let out a breath, and then stepped to Jinx, the tool in his hands whirring.
The drill sang in his hand, and then came the whine as if bit into bone, and Gregor began drilling into Jinx's skull. It was a fine instrument, quick to move, quick to work, and he carefully bored into the skull until he felt the drill shift, a clean hole in her skull. Gregor smiled as he removed the drill, and the section of skull. The skull piece dropped out, and was kept for replacement later. Gregor held out a hand, and felt the reassuring weight of the biopsy needle. He inserted it into Jinx skull, seeing the abnormality, right where he'd known it would be from the MRI.
THe brain lacked much int he way of feeling nerve rceptors, but it could feel heat and cold, adn he had no doubt that Jinx would feel the cold of the needle sliding into her brain, and then the sharp absence as Gregor extracted a sample from teh abnormality. He had no real idea on how that might effect her gifts. It might cause them to misfire now that he had a piece of ehr brain that was even now going into a sealed sample container. He paused a moment. He'd prepared for this, but wasn't sure if he'd been going to do it. but since she was here, her skull already open...
"Give me the electrode." He ordered. Again, no hesitation in the surgical team, the item handed to him. He took it carefully in tweezers, adn slid it into her skull. Cold steel prongs bit into her brain, sliding into place where the abnormality was now slightly smaller from the biopsy. He saw the green ready light go on, signifying that it was ready to go. He nodded, and stepped back from the operation. The team moved in to patch her up. The skull piece was placed back in, the flap of skin stitched back into place.
"What was that you put in?" The surgeon asked.
"Insurance." Gregor replied.
"For what?" Gregor adjusted a ring on his finger, adn depressed a small button. The electrode in Jinx brain went off, discharging current right into her brain. A physical prod might not elicit much pain. But an electric jolt, right in her brain...that woudl stimulate not only her pain receptors, but also light off a lot of other signals, giving her a moment of screaming agony, as well as a wash of conflicting emotions.
"For any efforts on her part to cause trouble for me. The Soma will be worn off in a few hours. Have the orderlies take ehr back to her cell." The head surgeon fixed Gregor with an incredulous stare, but did have Jinx unbelted from the surgical chair, and into a wheelchari to take her back to her cell.
