The Life of Valor (Grave x Kat)

Scott nodded.
"Yeah, but there's nothing we can do without further evidence. We can't just kick his door in and force him to talk to us."
He rubbed the back of his neck.
"This whole thing happened so fast that I didn't even get pictures of the escaped convicts. If he is one of the escapees, we'll know once we see his picture."

He didn't want to add 'but by then, he could be long gone', but that was a possibility. Even so, he had to play by the rules, though he hoped that wouldn't mean letting dangerous criminals slip away. Taking out his smartphone, Scott started to text Nick.
Could you send me photos of the escaped criminals? I need them to make a capture in a city the size of New York.
Nick responded that he would, and that photos would be in his inbox as soon as possible.

Scott and Jessica interviewed several more people, but didn't turn up any new information. They sat down in a waiting area of the company, waiting on the pictures to come in.
"At least the pictures will make things easier. We'll know for sure who's lying and who isn't when we get them."

Scott nodded as she rubbed his back and said that.
"I know. I won't let dangerous criminals run loose in our city."
He felt his phone vibrate, and checked to see a text come in. It was pictures of the four suspects, and his eyes widened. One of the faces was of the man who had behaved so suspiciously.

"This is him, one of the suspects!"
He stood up and took off for the office with Jessica in tow.
"It says his name is Jeremy Jones, codename Firestorm. If we hurry, we might still catch him!"
Scott busted in the office door, and was immediately sent flying back by a huge fireball. Jeremy had anticipated Scott's return and had prepared an attack.

Jeremy ducked around Jessica and took off running for the exit stairs.
"He's here, run!" he shouted.
Navigator opened a portal and escaped the building to another borough in New York. Tempest and Hypnotico took off running for the elevator.
"You go after those two, I'll get Jeremy!"
Scott raced down the stairs after his foe, trying to catch up with him despite the head start.

Jessica jumped back in surprise at the fire ball and took off after the two heading for the elevator. She managed to catch up just as they went for the elevator button and reached out, grabbing them both by the backs of their shirts with the armor of Grace on her hands and arms and yanked them back, she spun them around and went for a punch to each of their faces. Hypnotico tried to mind control stop her but figured out he couldn't by receiving a hard punch square in the face, along with Tempest. As they slammed back against the wall Jessica quickly went to pin them down.

Tempest and Hypnotico were surprised when they suddenly felt themselves being yanked backward away from the elevator. They were doubly surprised when it was not Crusader who had them, but a woman. They were whirled around with great strength and punches came at their faces incredibly fast. Tempest had no time to react and was knocked to the floor, but Hypnotico tried to stop her fist with his hypnosis power. Unfortunately, he was not successful and also hit the floor from the punch. They were then pushed against the wall and she tried to pin them.

Tempest created a wall of water and pushed Jessica back enough to get clear. The two then jumped out a window and used his tidal wave to carry them to safety. They made a hasty retreat, trying to stay away from Jessica. Both of them cursed Navigator for just leaving them, but were glad just to have gotten away. Neither were the greatest fighters, but they were surprised by Jessica's strength. Fortunately, what they lacked in strength they made up for in mobility.

Meanwhile, Scott was still pursuing Firestorm. They raced down the stairs, with fireballs and Shining Fists shooting back and forth. They hit the street, and Scott punched him in the face, throwing him backwards. However, Firestorm was able to recover and began tossing large fireballs his way. It was utter chaos as people scrambled to get out of the way. Scott closed the distance and the two began fighting in close-quarters, with Jeremy showing some decent martial arts expertise in Tong Soo Do, a martial art he had studied for years prior to being locked up.

Jessica wasn't letting them get away that easily. She jumped out of the window as well, using pipes, windowsills, and any other nooks and crannies to get to the ground safely and was soon on their heels, chasing them down the streets.

Scott continued to battle with Jeremy, getting the advantage in the fight. He landed a jumping roundhouse kick to the face that knocked him to the ground. Dazed, Jeremy was turned over and fitted with flex cuffs.
"I'll be back for you."
Scott turned and began heading for Jessica. The two of them were now in pursuit of Tempest and Hypnotico.

Catching up to Jessica, he ran by her side.
"You take Tempest. I'll take Hypnotico."
The two split off and Scott fired a Shining Fist to separate the two escapees. Scott went further up the street, while Tempest ducked into an alleyway. He was trying to lose Jessica in the maze, and also threw up illusions that would try to trip her up and buy time for him to escape.

Jessica nodded at Scott's words and hurried in pursuit of Tempest. She didn't seem phased by the illusions and continued going after him, her strong legs eating up the pavement as she was quickly gaining on them. Once she was within range her arm began to glow. "Fist of Grace!" She said as she launched her attack at Tempest's back.

The Fist of Grace landed flush and Tempest was sent tumbling head over heels until he finally stopped.
"Ohh..." he groaned in pain before falling unconscious.
Meanwhile, Scott had caught up to Hypnotico and knocked him unconscious with a Fist of Valor strike to the face. Meeting up with Jessica, they flex-cuffed the other two and set them down.
"Looks like we got three out of four. I'll call Nick and have him pick these guys up."

An hour later, the three were on a transport headed back to Shadowgreen. That just left the matter of trying to track down Navigator.
"I've got his energy signal, but he's bouncing around a lot as if he's trying to lose us. We'll need help on this one."
Scott got on the phone and called Madame Shadow but got a busy signal.
"Huh, that's weird, she almost always answers the phone."

Scott decided to go back to their house with Jessica. They would grab lunch while they waited a bit to try Madame Shadow or Nick again. Scott sat at the table and smiled at Jessica in the kitchen.
"Make us something really good, please."

Jessica nodded, seeming confused as well when the line was busy before following him home and kissing his cheek with a chuckle. "Alright." She replied and set about making a lunch of turkey burgers and pasta salad.

Scott leaned back in his chair, still a bit concerned that Madame Shadow hadn't picked up. It was completely unlike her. He only hoped that nothing bad had happened at Shadowgreen. He figured that if there had been a genuine emergency, someone would have tried to get in touch with him by now. Looking over at the kitchen, he smiled at Jessica.
"Whatever you're making smells really good."

Jessica smiled at him. "Turkey Burgers." She replied and finished cooking the patties and set them on a plate and brought them over along with buns and cheese and all the condiments.

Scott looked over as she set the turkey burgers in front of him.
"Sounds good."
He took a bun, put a patty on it, and then put some cheese and a few other condiments on. After taking a bite, he nodded with a smile at Jessica.
"Delicious."
When she brought over the pasta salad, he spooned some onto his plate and had some of that, as well.

Scott finished up the food and was wiping his mouth when his phone vibrated in his pocket. Taking it out, he was relieved to see that it was Yvette's number from her office at Shadowgreen. Answering the phone, he gave his usual greeting.
"Sorry for not answering when you called earlier. I had to oversee the return of the inmates to their cells. I'm definitely going to have to improve the way we train our guards."

"We still have one on the loose, Navigator. I'm going to need some help catching him."
"Yes, one of the teachers here will try to home in on his portals and close them before he can use them. Once we have him trapped in one spot, we can send you to apprehend him."
"Okay, I'll await your call."
Scott hung up the phone and explained the situation to Jessica.

(sowwy for deh delay! Had to move out of my old place Sunday and am just now at a place wiv wifi. Still waiting on deh router to get delivered to my new place.)

Jessica nodded as Scott explained the situation while she finished up her burgers and replied. "So I guess we just sit and wait then."

(It's okay. I'm glad you're back.)

An hour passed before Scott got the call he was waiting on.
"Scott, he's returned to New York City and we've trapped him on Staten Island. You need to go there and capture him right away."
"You got it."
Scott hung up the phone and passed the news on to Jessica before they headed out to his SUV. After starting it, he went as fast as the speed limit and traffic would allow to Staten Island.

When they arrived, Valor locked on to Navigator's energy signature. Exiting the vehicle, Scott put on his armor, not wanting to take any chances with a desperate escaped criminal. They caught up with him, and Navigator took off on foot when he saw them.
"Stop right there!"
Scott pursued him and eventually caught him with a diving tackle. With his arms pinned behind his back, he was hoisted to his feet and placed in zip ties.

"How did you find me?" Navigator asked.
"Your portals put out a unique energy signature, and Shadowgreen could lock onto it and close them off from you. Your own energy signature made you easy to track. You should have known better than to think you could escape from Shadowgreen for long."
Navigator hung his head, realizing that his escape was over. Scott placed him in the back of the SUV and called Nick to come and pick him up at the airport.

An hour later, when Nick arrived at the airport and shackled Navigator in the back, Scott led Jessica onboard.
"We're heading to Shadowgreen, as well. Jessica could use some training to help her increase her Armor of Grace."
He knew that she had been anxious to continue her training, and now was a good time to do so. Scott and Jessica buckled themselves into the seats as Nick went over the pre-flight checklist. After this was done, the jet lifted off and was on its way back to Shadowgreen.

(I finally haz internet at my new place! Yay~)

Jessica followed along with Scott and watched as he took down Navigator. She then blinked in surprise as Scott made this decision all on his own without discussing it with her and frowned a bit before following him on board silently.

(Awesome. I'm happy for you.)

Scott noticed that Jessica didn't seem as happy as he thought she might be. She seemed a bit unhappy with him, actually.
"Sorry I didn't discuss this with you. I know you've been eager to expand what your armor covers, so I thought this would be a good opportunity."
Scott gently reached out and took her hand.
" I just want to support you and Grace and see you both get stronger. "

(tankz :3 )

Jessica looked up at him and sighed a bit and squeezed his hand gently. "I know, I just don't like people making decisions for me without talking to me first. I guess it's just part of my stubborn streak." She replied and rested her head on his shoulder.

Scott leaned his head over and rested it on Jessica's.
"I'm sorry. I won't do that again."
When the jet landed, they all disembarked, with Nick escorting a shackled Navigator inside. Scott led Jessica through the main building to a different building where their Battle Dome was housed. It was here that she would receive her training.

Inside the main room of the building was a large clear dome with two entrances on either side of the room. Thick steel cables connected it to what resembled an announcer's booth, where the main controls were.
"This dome will allow you to fight in virtual reality, training your powers without the worry of destroying things. While you're inside, I'll be watching over you from the control room."
Scott turned to her with a smile.
"Are you ready for this, Jessica?"

Jessica nodded and pulled away slightly to lean up and kiss his cheek before resting the rest of the flight. Once they landed she followed Scott to the dome and nodded along as he explained how this room worked. She then looked at him determinedly and both her and Grace's voices could be heard as they said. "We both are."

Scott nodded.
"Okay, go ahead and enter the dome."
After she had, he gave her a minute to armor up.
" Okay, we'll start with level 10 androids. "
Hitting some switches, the androids appeared and charged at Jessica. These androids would help build up her combat proficiency.
