Where's My Happy Ending? ((butterfly0408/Kolath))

Aiden nodded a little worried about leaving her alone with anyone but he stood and put on his robe. He slipped out of the room going to find the doctor. The doctor would arrive to see to Crista shortly after Aiden left and despite his argument about being there for her at all times the doctor insisted that Aiden stay and talk to his mother. Talk hardly happened since Aiden was very worried about Crista and why she wanted to be left alone with the doctor. All he could do was wait.

Crista took the time to slip back into the nightgown she had taken off the night before and never put back on. Then she just sat in the bed, waiting for the doctor, thinking over so many things.

Soon he was with her, smiling and letting her know how pleased he was that she was up and doing well it seemed. She let him ask this questions first. Routine things, but then she had to ask hers.

She let him know about the drink that Haylel had forced down her throat she recalled four times. She decribed how it tasted and what the other girls had told her it was meant to do.

"I do know of such things. Women of certain... professions have been known to drink such a thing to prevent them from conseving with the many partners they have in a time period," the doctor explained to her.

"You see my fear then doctor? I took that thing for a time. What if it's... already taken affect on me? Could it have?"

The doctor sighed, "I will not lie to you Crista. It could. The odds are more in the favor it has not though, so that is good news."

"But it could have...." she repeated, only thinking the worst.

The doctor took her hands, kindly, "But it could NOT have as well."

"Aiden wishes to marry me doctor. You know I can't if I can't.... produce for him."

"My dear girl, if you saw how that boy worried over you in the last few monthes time, you'd know he could care less over something like that."

"How long before I know for certain?"

The doctor shrugged, "There is no way to, until you either conceive or you do not. It is the only way." He patted her hand, "Now you are ordered to remain in bed a few more days my dear. You must be hungry so I will have food brought up at once. Broth and bread only for now my dear, but if you can hold it down, we'll have you eating real hearty foods in a few days time. And I promise, I will not say anything to him about what we have spoken of. You do it in your own time."

The doctor soon departed and Crista knew Aiden would arrive shortly.

Crista was right it wasnâ??t long before Aiden came back. He stepped inside with a tray of food. â??The doctor said you were fine and to bring you thisâ?¦Are you fine my love?â? he was so worried about her that he couldnâ??t keep it inside. His face showed worry and concern wanting nothing more then to see to her needs and take care of her as best as he could.

The way he worried over her, oh how it warmed her heart! Smiling, she nodded slightly, before stopping and giving her head a slight shake. It was hard to tell if that was a signal for yes or no. "For this moment, I suppose so, if not just very hungry. There are things we need to talk about but... I want to sit and eat with you first. That is, I mean, if you have time. You are king now after all. You've already spent so much time on me."

Aiden set the tray down on the table and came over to her his hands gently cupping her face. He leaned in kissing her deeply pouring his love into the kiss reminding her just how much he loved her. â??Nothing is more important then you my love. My people have waited three months to have me crowned they can wait another week.â? He gently took her hand leading her over toward the table and pulling that chair out for her.

"You're not crowned yet?!" Crista gasped as she took the seat. "Aiden something like that can't wait! You have to do that at once! I'm here now so it doesn't have to wait any longer!" Thought, she had to admit that on the inside, it truly touched her that he would wait til he found her to take his rightful place. It was still a bit foolish, but sweet.

Aiden leaned in kissing her deeply again his hand brushing her cheek he really was just wanting her to stop long enough for him to get a word in but it also was a good excuse to kiss her. â??I am not going to be crowned, not until I am married to you. I refuse to be crowned till I have you as my bride and my queen once I am crowned.â?

Once more today, Crista paled. She hadn't want to tell him already, but... he could not wait for her, and she would never allow him to attach to one who might be barren. "Aiden...." she struggled to find the words to tell him, but it was hard to pick the right ones so she just went with it. "The reason I wanted to see the doctor was... Heylel gave me something while I was with him. A drink and I needed the doctor to confirm if it was what Heylel told me it was. And... he did......" She took a deep breath. It might not be how she wanted to tell him, but, "Aiden I don't know if I can bare you children. Even you can't deny that a king needs and heir and if Heylel has gotten his way, that might be impossible. The drink is from and herb that renders a woman unable to have children. So you see... you can't possible wait to be crowned for marry because.... I won't marry Aiden. Not if I can't be any use to you and your kingdom like a wife is suppose to be."

Aidenâ??s face paled also as he listened to what Crista was saying, but not with fear with pure anger. For the first time he had a look similar to Heylel in his eyes. It didnâ??t last long as his eyes closed it was already going away it was a mere flash. His eyes slowly opened and there was nothing but pain and sorrow in them. â??Iâ??m so sorry my love I should have found you sooner I should have prevented this from happening to you.â? He kissed her softly, â??But it doesnâ??t change how I feel about you and I will marry no other woman. As god as my witness I will never share my life or my bed with another woman ever again.â?

"Aiden, dammit don't say that!" She curse and rose to her feet, not angry, more distressed than anything else. "You can't do that! You are what this kingdom needs and I won't be the one to stand in the way of it! I could never forgive myself if I robbed everyone here of you. It would be simply selfish of me to do it! But you have to just think logically here! P...Please... think..." Crista started to sway a little, having overworked herself with no food in her stomach that she made herself light headed before starting to fall towards the floor.

Aiden was just about to come back with just as strong a rejoinder not going to back down from his stand. He knew what he wanted and to hell with anything else he would have Crista and if he had to hold the kingdom ransom to marry her so be it.

However when she started to collapse all thoughts other than for her safety and well being vanished from Aidenâ??s mind. With speed of one concerned for his love Aiden crossed over to her catching her just before she hit the floor. â??Easy there Cristaâ?¦we can argue about this when you are feeling better. Right now you need to rest and get food into you since you havenâ??t eaten well in a long while.â? He picked up one of the bowls and gently laid her head in his lap.

Crista shook her head lightly, "I've no appetite now." It was sort of the truth. She felt sick to her stomach and feared being able to swallow pretty much anything without feeling sicker still. But at the same time, she also felt sick over the idea of not getting something in her. It had been so long since she had had food. Honestly, she couldn't even remember the last time. "I don't know if I'll ever feel better about this Aiden. It's like... some higher power doesn't want us together. Every time we gain an inch, we fall back another mile."

â??Shhhh its just broth with some herbs to help you feel better just a few spoonfuls is all I ask.â? He took some into the spoon and held it to her lips waiting for her to take it. â??Well eventually we will reach rock bottom and there is no way to go from there but up. There is nothing stopping us from trying to be together love we just need to get the people that want us to fail out of the way.â? He looked down for a moment, â??And my father dying was a big step that way.â?

She felt like a child having to be fed like that, but only sighed and opened her lips to let him give her the broth. One taste and she knew she wanted that whole bowl. "Mmm..." she moaned almost as she moved to sit up and reached for the bowl from him. "I have forgotten what flavor is. I've had nothing but bread and water for months. Shannon and Jacqueline would have real food and rub it in our faces that we-" she paused. She had completely forgotten about the other girls until this moment. Her hands lowered once again as she sat across from him on the floor, "What happened to them? What.... what happened to Marie? What about......him?"

Aiden had smiled when she seemed to clearly want the broth after the first taste. He let her get up now that she seemed a little stronger. When she brought up the other girls he looked down for a moment. â??The other girls are fine two of them are worse off then you and need to learn what real life is; and the other is getting her strength back and the royal court will be having a talk with her father. I am going to guess that Marie is the poor girl that we found deadâ?¦â? he went silent for a moment slowly looking up at her. â??I thought she was you when I first saw her, you two looked so alike from behindâ?¦I thought I had arrived just moments to late for you; and I still wish I had shown up earlier for her sake.â?

There went her appetite once again. She remained silent for a few moments before... "The two that you say are worse of them me are Jacqueline and Shannon. They have known no other life but the kind Heylel has shown them. It will take time with them both, I am sure. They were cruel, but I fear they knew no other way. Rebeca you clearly know her story already. I hope her father burns for what he did to her. And Marie......." she shook her head softly, "If there was anyone who knew horror more then I it was her. Heylel plucked her right from her wedding bed and killed her husband before her. The love of her life. She might still have family. She mentioned a sister with a small family of her own. Could we... see to finding them? Returning her body to them? She would want to be buried by her husband whom she never had the chance to spend her life with."

She paused again before, "You didn't mention him Aiden..."

Aiden nodded, â??Her family is most likely on Heylelâ??s land since any other noble would have said something about him stealing her from their lands.â? As Crista pushed the issue of him, Aidenâ??s eyes darkened but not in the same way almost pure righteous anger burned in them. â??Heâ?¦is in the dungeon waiting for my judgment. Death is too good for him I am tempted to just let him rot there on bread and water, for the rest of his life.â?

Crista was a good person, but hearing of what Haylel's fate would be, she could only have one reply to the news. "Good. Who knows how many other women there were before us. Let him know what put each and everyone of them through." She finally took the bowl into her hands, and picked up the spoon and slowly starting to drink the flavorful broth.

Aiden nodded slowly as she affirmed that she thought his choice of punishment was good. He came over to sit next to her kissing her hair lightly. â??Iâ??m glad you approve. I was afraid that I was being too harshâ?¦the fact that he hurt you makes me want to make his punishment as harsh as I possibly can.â? He nuzzled her hair, â??It scares me a little the things that I can come up with to make him suffer.â?

"It's amazing, isn't it?" she sat there sipping her meal, occasionally just stirring at the contents of the bowl and sighing. It felt so nice just to sit on the floor with him like this. God, could it stay like this? Just simple like this? Perhaps for two simple people, but for a king? "Amazing the things your mind can think of, even if you feel guilty thinking it all."

He smiled nuzzling her hair more. â??You too huh?â? he held her gently then sighed softly. â??Ok Crista, I guess your right about the kingdom, now that I have you back I want to make sure the kingdom is safe. However you are not going to convince me to marry someone else ever.â? He gently turned her to face him looking into her eyes. â??I love you and want no one else. Even if you canâ??t bear children I will have you as my queen.â?

She sighed a little in reply. He was stubborn. But so was she. This was going to end up being quite the battle of wills. "You'll see reason Aiden. In time I know you will, but until then you need to show your people you care about them just as much as you care about me. Even more then me. They will never follow a leader who does not show them that." She leaned her head in to rest if against his shoulder, "Promise me you will."

He kissed her hair softly nodding slowly. â??I promise I will show them that they mean much to me but no one can mean as much to me as you no matter what I should feel as king.â? He nuzzled close against her nodding down to the bowl. â??Eat love you need your strength because I have a feeling this is not over.â? He smiled kissing her hair glad how much she care about him enough so much as to give of herself to see he was alright.

She nodded slightly, "Agreed," she said, a very slight smile on her face as she took another spoonful of her broth and showed him that she was doing exactly what he wanted her to do. For now at least. "You should as well."

He leaned over kissing her bare shoulder. â??Yes mother.â? He smirked and standing moved over to the table taking the other bowl of broth this one with a little more in it then herbs. It wasnâ??t a lot but it was enough for a good meal when your love is hurting and canâ??t have much and you want to join her. After he finished Aiden cuddled her close kissing her neck over and over smiling. â??Iâ??m never going to let you go again.â?
