What game are you playing now?

Except you also have House and the option of an independent Mojave. Each outcome has the potential to greatly effect the entire landscape of the Mojave, as the area is actually very very important. It is unique in having a giant super-weapon, and a means to create very cheap energy to be spread across the entire area. It is essentially the staging ground for the Legion to be able to secure their supply lines west, and the NCR to do the same east. The NCR taking the Mojave could mean that they will actually hit the East Coast. The result of this game has the potential to greatly change the course of history in the Fallout Universe. Will it? That's up to the writers, but it's all laid out.

Then you have the question of their leadership: side with the potentially corrupt and ailing NCR, or side with the charismatic leader that forged an empire out of nothing. Ceaser's Legion has met with maybe one drastic loss, and that was during their first push to claim the Hoover Dam. Say what you will about the morality of their society, but it is stated numerous times that it is safer and it's residents enjoy a relatively higher standard of living. I don't agree with their views on women, something the NCR does better with considering their second President, but that is something that can change over time-- who knows how the cultural landscape will change.

Ultimately the more... politically correct and less morally ambiguous choice is to stick with the NCR. They are very clearly represented as the good guys. However there's a bit more going on behind the scenes than what you have in Fallout 4. The latest game gives you a hackneyed AI rights story with a tacked on family bit-- I need to find my son, but... I need to build this settlement. I don't feel like there will be any significant changes to Boston outside how Synths are treated. I'm never given any indication that Synths are anything but very human-- the more human-like ones we are supposed to care about. I don't feel them being eradicated or saved will prompt anything of interest happening. The series as shown through two games that they just want to live normal lives.

Do you side with an empire bent on conquest, or the freedom loving people it seeks to dominate?

Doesn't sound inherently all that interesting, huh? It's been told a thousand times and without any more information the conflict isn't much of an eye grabber. However, when we get down into the details we realize that I'm referencing the conflict between the Achaemenid Empire and the Greek City-States in 480 BC. It's a tale that has gone down in history and likely will not be forgotten.

Do you side with the aging, corrupt Empire, or the rebels that seek to rise up against them?

Again old, trite, and done before. If we bother to actually consider the conflict as a whole, we realize that what I'm talking about is the Yellow Turban Rebellion in China around the year 180 AD. It was a rebellion that lead to roughly 100 years of warfare and changed the face of China forever. It is one of the most epic and beloved periods of Chinese history, and one of the more complicated and interesting periods of war in the history of mankind.

Um...no, the game outright establishes that the Legion-dominated lands are a complete shithole, which it forgets every time it tries to pretend otherwise.

And for all the game tries to paint the NCR as flawed and corrupt, it's the only ending that can get good outcomes for every group in the game, the only faction that can bring actual peace and prosperity to the Mojave.

There is absolutely no depth to the choice. You either choose the stuck-up dictator, delusions of liberty and self-reliance, the psychotic hordes of the Legion, or the only people capable of actually protecting and improving everyone's lives. And that last one happens to have far more content than the other paths...and still 80% of those first two choices are identical to the NCR path.

Whatever you may think about New Vegas' choices, they were at least infinitely better written then 3 or 4.

One thing I did like about 4 was making the Brotherhood a full-fledged faction. I swear, them scraping my ass off the desert when I was 12 playing Wasteland has paid dividends for the faction across 7 games and the entire postapocalyptic american landscape. I love me some powerarmor wearing badasses, even if the east coast faction have kinda lost the mission.

Ceasar's Legion has territories across Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. You don't have that much land, and sustain it with poor living conditions. You need a massive army to protect the land and keep peace. You need at least a decent standard of living so the people don't rebel. You need an impressive infrastructure so that you can sustain the massive army to keep that land secure. Rome was built on the back of the Road, and the Mongol Empire enjoyed the Silk Road. It's almost ignorant to say that Legion controlled lands would be poorly organized and of poor condition.

"The general tone would have been what you would expect from life under a stable military dictatorship facing no internal resistance: the majority of people enjoy safe and productive lives (more than they had prior to the Legion's arrival) but have no freedoms, rights, or say in what happens in their communities. Water and power flow consistently, food is adequate, travel is safe, and occasionally someone steps afoul of a legionary and gets his or her head cut off. If the Legion tells someone to do something, they only ask once -- even if that means an entire community has to pick up and move fifty miles away. Corruption within the Legion is rare and Caesar deals with it harshly (even by Legion standards).

In short, residents of Legion territories aren't really citizens and they aren't slaves, but they're also not free. People who keep their mouths shut, go about their business, and nod at the rare requests the Legion makes of them -- they can live very well. Many of them don't care at all that they don't have a say in what happens around them (mostly because they felt they never had a say in it before the Legion came, anyway)" - Joshua Sawyer, Project Director and Lead Designer of Fallout: New Vegas.

One of the reasons New Vegas is written so well is that it allows for the individual characters to have their own opinions. They then share these opinions with you based on their views of whatever it is you are talking about. Most people fear the Legion, because they are horribly brutal, so they assume that the people there live shitty, terrible lives. They have never actually visited a Legion controlled area. As Trygon pointed out, the game is just better written than 3 and 4, because it allows characters to say things that may not actually be correct. It allows for the views of the characters to be biased, or just completely wrong. This forces the player to make tougher choices, as the story is never laid out only in shades of truth. Cass, of all people, even mentions that Legion controlled areas are impressive. Considering her vast dislike of the Legion, I could only imagine that they must be very much worth complimenting.

Furthermore, in the ending for Primm, the Legion does nothing but watch them. They conduct their lives more or less the same they did, except now they enjoy protection from the Legion (provided they don't fight back). Goodsprings is also left alone, it's people not slaughtered or set to ruin. Novac is attacked, likely because they attempted to resist the Legion, and this is regardless of whether or not the NCR win. The Kings also resist the Legion and are killed for it.

Basically, the Legion only really fucks up those that resist them, or are of "low moral fiber". Any bad ending due to choosing the Legion is due to conflict. It's more or less no different than any other invading force. The United States wanted to go west, and the Native Americans said, "No". What happened? Slaughter. Defied Alexander the Great's desires on your land? Be slaughtered. Decided that you weren't going to give into the Great Khan's demands to submit? Be slaughtered.

That's how the brutal world works, and that's how great empires are forged. When ambitious men want something, and diplomacy won't get them it, then you have war.

Finally playing MGSV. I started to feel the creeping claws of Kojima in my brain when I was laying behind a tiny rock in a ditch with my finger on the detonator of my roadside bomb as I waited for enemy armor to pass by. In Afghanistan, no less. Fun game, but feels incomplete, even at 25%.

Bladestorm: Nightmare. A good game, if not top shelf. It's a remaster of Bladestorm, which adds a fantasy element and overhauls some of the graphics. Out of all of the remasters out there, this is probably the one with the most bang for you buck. It not only improves the original game, but also adds an entirely new mode. However, it's marred with technical issues, and the PC port isn't exactly well done.

I played the original, and even though I thought everything in it was awful, I enjoyed it. It was one of those addicting games that you enjoy even though it fails in every single aspect of game design. So naturally I got Nightmare thinking that it would fix the game where it lacked but I found that it wasn't the case. Yes, the battles against the demons were interesting and lengthy, but the game was still too easy. A fully powered cavalry unit or spear unit can pretty much break the game, especially now that they added more levels. I mean.. I barely used any items or flags or anything. Other sides of the game still lacked, shallow story and repetitive missions, horrible voice acting, etc..

I've recently started playing Arkham Knight. The game is gradually getting better which is nice because the beginning was a bit mediocre. I dislike how they changed some of the controls, the gliding dynamics and force you to use the batmobile during most of the game. It took me a while to get used to it but I'm rather enjoying it now and I like the how story is unfolding. I'm still in the beginning I think, I've only recently got to Two-face. I doubt it is going to beat Arkham City, but it is a good game worth its price nonetheless.

It won't feel that much more complete, I'm afraid. It's fun, and the gameplay is executed well, but... the stern hand of a Konami deadline is in full effect. MGO3 is a mess, however.

More or less my thoughts on Bladestorm. It's a budget title with ambitions far exceeding what the studio would be capable of successfully doing. It is a Koei Tecmo game, so you can't expect Rockstar quality. Despite it faults, it hits a certain itch that I love to scratch.

My thoughts on Arkham Knight are far less kind. I had the misfortune of buying the PC version, so it was a shit-show for the longest time. It still doesn't run super well. I feel it's the weakest of all of the games, but it's far from a "bad" game. I still enjoy playing it.

Just got back into playing XCOM: Enemy Within (Mostly because of the sequel hype) I forgot how fun and terrifying the game can be, especially when it comes to the mercy and fortune of the RNG gods.

Like, for example, tripping five aliens at once during a terror mission. And hitting a pod of Chryssalids right behind the very first door you open in the same mission. I've also somehow only managed to roll a single Sniper this entire time (She's amazing and max rank already, with gene mods, but I mean seriously. Only one sniper? Come on). Then again, it's balanced out by those clutch hits and last desperate gambles.

I'm not planning to play Long War though, because I'm not that much of a masochist. :p

I won't be touching any part of the online. Firewalled the .exe and everything. GMP is hard enough to come by without taxes.

You'll be absolutely swimming in GMP in no time. Just S rank the missions, do the side-ops, and you'll rarely hurt for GMP. Then you can just sell the bulk of the stuff you fulton.

World of tanks

Have 40k xp and don't know what to do,

Options-
- buy a better gun for my tier 7 (if not its stock)
- move up to tier 7 with stock tank
-move up 2 tiers of tanks, from 4 to 6
-buy second good gun on tier 6

Aw yis, Persona 4 is the greatest ever.

I got Just Cause 3 and Cities: Skylines. JC3 is proving unfortunately brief after the massive campaign of 2, but I think I'll manage. The framerate issues suck, so I've kinda put it on ice for now. Not because it's a bad game, but because I finally got a charger for the dormant PSP I had lying around and immediately broke it open. I can't talk about being a filthy pirate on GAF, but oh man, you guys, I am a filthy pirate. I downloaded about 20 games I've been meaning to play for most of ten years, and the FIRST one I started sunk awful JRPG claws in my brain and now I can't play anything else. That game is Trails in the Sky, and it's apparently #6 in a series of !14! games. How do I keep being unaware of these massive JRPG franchises? The PS2 was the height of my consumption for them, too!

There's nothing to say about Cities that hasn't been said before. It's the True Son of Maxis. I didn't quite buy into the hype, because I loved SimCity 2000 soooooo much, and I had pretty much accepted that was lost to time. Nope. Here it is, modern features in tow, plus gorgeous graphics. I'll be playing this game for at least ten years. Bet on it.

Agreed. I like it so far. I saw there was a JC3 but I never finished part 2. Think I may go back to it. My friend told me about Trails in the Sky. PSN had some sale going on, it was 9.99 if I remember, I should have got it at the time.

World of Warcraft, Divinity: Original Sin enhanced edition, and probably going to dabble in Diablo 3 once 2.4 comes out this next week.

Started to build some houses in the Sims 4. It's really impressive how nice some of the houses other people can make are, so it's inspiring to kind of give it a go myself.

Also playing Fallout 4 after a long hiatus from the game. I started to mod it, so I have more motivation to finally get around to finishing it.

I'm far too excited for Xcom 2 next month and I am trying to finish a classic/iron man run. Not easy, but I am barely persevering. Can't wait for the first terror mission to fuck me over.

XCOM 2 is looking very nice so far. I was watching some gameplay, and it looks to really improve on just about everything from the first game. I'm still not jazzed about how the characters have trouble shooting around corners or over ledges; the guns just stick through, or they just shoot through them. Line of sight was probably the most annoying thing about Enemy Unknown, so hopefully it will be at least somehow improved.

Xcom is one of those games where i'll keep myself as unabashesly in the dark as possible. I want to go in blind and naked. Or as naked as I can get.

The only bad thing is when sometimes you just get a shit sandwich dealt to you and you just have to deal with it. I bring a mix of A-team and my B-team to a UFO landing in amy... ONly for mutons, seekers, and floaters to all activate on the same alien activity phase. My assault and support from the A-team hobbled out, my B team assault and rookies dead. Gonna have to build a new B-team from the ground up, and I only just got laser rifles and carapace armor.

Oh man, I get here and everyone's talking about Xcom 2. You are not more excited about Xcom 2 than I am. Noe. I need dis. Xcom 2 is bae.
