School Rumble (Broom and I)

"I'm proud of you, Jana," Mel said, hand on her head with a smile.

"...Yeah, well," Jana muttered. "...I guess I should...think about this a lot more, huh?"

"You should," Mel murmured faintly. "I know this isn't the outcome you wanted, but his pain would have given you little."

"...Yeah," Jana mumbled, swallowing faintly. "...Let's just go, okay?"

Jana would get her wish. The five left the scene and all the while back, Mei held Jana close to her. She knew that Jana was upset and still would be for quite some time. "..Jana...we should take a break." Mei told her after thinking about it for a while. "Together. We haven't spent much time together since all this happened."

"That sounds like a good idea, actually...girls day out?" Mel grinned as she settled in the passenger seat. "What do you say, Megumi? It's been a while since we actually spent the day together too."

"...That's great, but," Jana said, hand over Mei's with a dry expression. "...You two aren't going to be weird, are you Mom?"

"What?" she scoffed. "What do you mean?"

"You know what she means..." Justin muttered as he looked out the window. He had seen Megumi enough times to know exactly what Jana meant. Mei just...rolled her eyes. She didn't mind them tagging along...she'd just ignore them if they started doing weird things.

"Mel and I are just close, that isn't weird at all." Megumi commented as she drove. "Honestly, you kids should try it some time! Physical contact is a good expression for how deeply you care for someone. You two already hold hands and hug each other."

"...Megumi," Mel said dryly. "You're a sweetheart and all, but most friends don't fuck each other to show affection, honey." At least Mel understood it, but Megumi had always been in her own little world.

"Exactly," Jana mumbled.

"Really? Well they ought to." Megumi laughed a little, all while Mei slid down in her seat as a silent groan left her mouth. No one believed her when she said that her mother was awful. Maybe now they would. "Oh come on...no one agrees? Sex isn't anything to be ashamed about! Justin, back me up here!"

The blonde in the back seat, who had tried his hardest to just keep quiet went completely red. He hadn't..done it in a while and living with an attractive woman like Mel made him even more frustrated. "Sorry Mrs. Wolfe. I don't have an opinion one way or the other, honestly."

"Lair," Jana teased playfully, arms thrown around Mei to give an overdramatic attempt to kiss her on the lips. "Oh Mei, our friendship gets me so hot." she purred, her voice low and sultry. "Kiss me, make it real!"

...Well, at least Jana was getting back to her old self. Not that it stopped Mel from shaking her head with a faint chuckle. Sometimes, she wondered if she let that girl get a little too free.

"Stop! Jana!" Mei shouted as her cheeks went bright red. Though honestly she was glad to see Jana still be able to joke. It made her relieved. Justin only laughed..but it was an awkward one. He was either really, really frustrated...or everyone in this goddamn car was too fucking sexy. He would love to see Jana and Mei together...watching Megumi and Mel was like a porn sometimes.

"You don't love me enough, love me!" Jana said with an exasperated sigh, nuzzling against her face as she showered it with playful, sloppy kisses. "Our friendship is shattering!"

"Jana," Mel laughed. "You're going to make that poor girl explode! Quit it!"

"Oh, the more flustered Mei gets, the more she likes it!" Megumi teased as Mei desperately tried to cover her face..to either hide her shame or to protect it from Jana's lips. Either way, she didn't expect to actually like the way Jana's lips felt on her face. That was what was making it so damn embarrassing.

Jana grinned in amusement as she stopped, nuzzling into her neck to hug her. "...Thanks for being here, Mei," she murmured honestly. "...I couldn't have done this without you here." She felt better, actually better. It'd be a while before she could accept what happened, but...knowing she had friends...it was enough for now. People that wanted to see her heal.

Mei let her hands slip from her face before she wrapped her arms around Jana. "It's what friends are for, Jana..you won't ever be alone. Even if something happens to me, you have plenty of people who love you. Everyone here loves you." Mei told her as she rubbed her back. Even Justin...Mei could tell by the way he looked and spoke to her, that he still deeply cared for her. Even if he didn't say it.

"I know," Jana smiled, shifting off Mei a moment to give Justin a big hug. "...You've been a huge help, Justin." she smiled, kissing his cheek. "Thank you...don't be afraid to hang around, okay? I missed you." She did, even if things didn't work out. She was proud of him, he looked completely different, and for the better.

Justin looked down at Jana and smiled, his arms wrapping around her to pull her tightly against his rugged form. "I'll stick around if I have the time. Depending on how hard Mei wants to work me." He wasn't afraid of hard work, either. The training he went through with Mel made everything else in the world seem like a cake walk.

"Good," Jana smiled. "So what are the plans for you anyway, Justin? If you don't want to be part of the DC?" she asked curiously, head tilted. "You're not going back to being a rat, are you?"

"I haven't really thought about it, to tell you the truth. It's not that I don't want to be apart of DC, I just don't feel like I'm good enough yet." Justin responded as he released Jana from his hug. "As a person. I want everyone to trust me before I put on a uniform. I don't want to make Mei or you look bad."

"...You really have changed," Jana mused, looking him over again curiously. What in the world did her Mom do to him to bring that out? "For the better, though...I like it, it suits you." she smiled.

"Yeah? I suppose." Justin humbly agreed, looking off to the side as he tried his best not to get caught up in that smile of hers. Things were over between them, and he accepted that. Though it was hard to remember that when she was right in front of him. All he wanted to do was kiss her. But no. That part was over. He just had to be a good friend.

"You want to prove yourself? That won't be hard then. I have plenty in store for you, Justin. Let's consider this a trial run. Once I say it's over, you can join DC." Mei told him as she stared at the boy. Jana was right...he had changed. Mei liked it..and truthfully he had done a lot less than Komoku did...she didn't see why he couldn't join. But if he wanted to prove himself, she wouldn't stop him.

"See? You're set then," Jana grinned. "Mei's a rough boss, though. She still scares the newbies pretty easy...and really anyone." She did have quite the glare when she wanted it. Or as Komoku put it: 'The icy glare that made him hard as a rock.'

"I believe it. I'm sure the ice is still at the ready when it's needed." Justin grinned at Mei, though it was reciprocated with a blank stare. Sheesh, she may not look mean anymore but she still didn't smile often either. That might change with time. Who knew? Maybe one day he could even call Mei a friend. He needed more of those.

The car stopped just outside of central. Her mother looked back at the three. "Jana, Mei..if you want you can spend the night at my house. Since tomorrow we're having a girls night out and everything. I already asked Mel and Justin to keep me company since Alaric and Aimee are out on a business trip and won't be back for the next few weeks..."

"Good idea," Jana smiled. "I'll be right back though, I can think of someone else who'd like to come along," she said, giving Mei a teasing wink before she stepped out of the car. Oh, she knew just who to drag, even if she knew the girl would refuse almost vehemently.

Mei decided to follow Jana out. She needed to get her things anyway. And check to see if Komoku had left or not..probably. It had been a few hours. "Wait up!" She said as she tailed behind her.

"I've got something I need to do," Justin told the two women as he opened the car door. "I'm not a girl anyway...so I should probably find somewhere else to go tonight."

Surprisingly enough, or unsurprisingly...depending on your view of Komoku, he was still sprawled out on Mei's bed, snoring like a bear. For someone who had outright refused to even consider resting, he was out like a light, and he looked quite content, too. Jana, meanwhile...was stalking a shadow. A shadow who had an increasing sense of dread for the smile on Jana's face. Nothing good could come of it, nothing.

Mei was surprised, but she was really glad that he was still resting. She knew that he needed it despite all of his whining. All she could do was smile a little before she began packing up her things as quietly as possible. She'd let him sleep there as long as he wanted to.

Komoku's nose twitched after a moment, and his eyes fluttered open with a displeased grumble, rubbing his face. "Mei?" he said, his voice hoarse and scratchy. "Shit...did I fall asleep? What time is it?"
