The Last Pedigree

You find yourself on the surface, keeping to the shadows. Even though it's the afternoon, the larger gangs are patrolling their territory. Drug dealers are pushing their product, prostitutes peddling their... skills. An occasional gunshot rings off in the distance.

Another day in paradise.

Any normal citizen of the slums stays away from gang patrols, but you're different. You have a mission, and it's the only thing you have left to lose.

Vengeance.

There are those that would end your mission easily, so caution is your guide. Your guile is your survival.

However, at this point, you have no clues as to the whereabouts of the murderous cult, let alone what a member looks or acts like.

You stand in the shadows, without a clue where to start, but a clear end in mind. Destroy the sick bastards that tore apart your friend.

Your current possessions:
1 bottle of clean water
1 quarter-bag of stale bread
ragged, dirty outfit

Dark_Times

In your secret clinic is where you are currently relaxing, after an unpleasant night of sewing up a couple bullet holes on a whiny mobster. It was good cash, but it was hardly worth listening to a wet-behind-the-ears yes-man say "owowowow!" for almost two hours.

You have no worries about gangsters robbing you or your store. The last person to do so "magically disappeared" along with all of the perpetrators. You're protected, and your skill is your payment.

You don't like doing things illegally, but it usually means more money in your pocket, which means more food on your table. Your clinic is fully equipped, due to how much money you've earned, and you also have a small library of medical texts, all of which you've studied.

It's another afternoon in the slums. No one has arrived yet, but it isn't hard to foresee some poor schmuck running in with a bullet in his arm and a fist full of Benjamins.

Your current equipment:
1 capped syringe full of a strong sedative
1 scalpel
1 old, stained labcoat
casual outfit

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

Nothing about the name Switch. Mr. Sir had said that other people in. . .whatever group she was now a part of would only call her by that name. That meant that this man wasn't a part of that group. She couldn't tell at this point whether or not that was a bad thing.

Now that Touma had calmed down considerably, she began to actually think, and realize that. . .she didn't have any idea as to what was actually happening around her. Touma scratched the top of her head attempting to understand. . .pretty much anything here.

"Umm. . .I'm. . .new here. And I really don't have any idea just what any of this stuff is. Like. . .P.P.E. - what's that? A gun of some sort? And just. . .what exactly is this place," she said, unable to hide the fact that her own ignorance was annoying her. Obviously, this wasn't exactly her element. If she didn't seem out of place here to the guard before, this would definitely make him think twice about the person standing before him. Unless everyone was like this the first time here.

They were underground here. The pops she heard sounded like gunshots. Was this a firing range? A training facility? Whatever was going on here, she needed to figure out fast. She only had two hours to practice and prepare for whatever task it was she had to complete. From the way the man upstairs made it sound, her life depended on whatever this mission was she had coming up.

While waiting for the guard to reply, the box piqued her interest. She place her hand on top of it and slowly lifted it up so that she could see inside of it.

Dudeguy

"I know you're new here. It's written on your dome-piece." The nameless soldier said in a joking manner. "As for P.P.E., that stands for personal protection equipment."

As he said this, you open the box to find a pair of black ear mufflers, obviously meant to protect your hearing from the sound of gunfire, a pair of safety glasses, and large amount of ammo for your S4M. It was clear that Mister Sir fully intended for you to come down here and train.

"Anything else I can help you with, Katsuragi?" The tall soldier asked as he folded his arms over his barrel chest.

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

The small half-cast sat from the gutters, watching the occasional person go by the opening to the alleyway. No one ever noticed him, not while he was hiding, which was probably a good thing in the long run. He would blend in with the city, like the rest of the scum that filled this hellhole he would go unnoticed, hopefully.

It took Alaran a while before he decided to leave the safety of the gutters. He didn’t really know where to head, although he knew that the prostitutes were usually a good place to start. A lot of information was passed around between bed sheets, and it might be that one of them knew something about the cult, something that Alaran could use to get him further.

Shedding the shadows for sunlight, Alaran stepped into the main street, joining the relative hustle and bustle of the slums. There was no general direction to the foot traffic; most people were hurrying from place to place, afraid to be out for too long. Who could blame them though? There were gangs to think about, occasionally the corporation got its bounty hunters down here to stir up trouble, and of course, there was the ever-present cult threat to think of.

The cult had never been too much of a worry for Alaran, at least, before they’d used his friend in one of their ceremonies. The thought was enough to bring the stinging lash of tears to his eyes once again. Biting down on his bottom lip Alaran tried to control his feelings, this wasn’t the time or place. He was on a mission.

When Alaran finally found the hookers, he once again took to a quieter place, across the street from them. He sat on an empty box as he looked on them, waiting. He didn’t have any money to buy services, but Alaran had been on the streets a while, occasionally the whores took pity on those less fortunate, more often than not though they’d stop to chat on a late night, safety in numbers and all that. With that, he sat on his box, staring, hoping that he’d be at least recognized by one of them.

The Last Pedigree

Contrary to your beliefs about whores, they stayed away from the shadier, and dirtier, residents of the slum streets. Any whores that wasted their time with people not making a purchase usually got a "get-back-to-work" slap on the face by their pimp. If you wanted info from a whore, you'd have to clean up and at least look like you were going to make a purchase.

The bums in many of the cardboard alleys were a more likely source of info, so long as you were willing to do them a service in return.

RE: Dark_Times

Raiker stood slowly, a sigh escaped him as the day had been somewhat of a drag. He picked up his scalpel and twirled it between his fingers, watching the light dance across the blade.

He couldn't complain about his living situation, he had what he needed and that meant he was happy, though there was always that yearning to move up in the world. Pacing over to his collection of texts he took down his personal favorite, a book about open heart surgery. Raiker had studied it over and over but had never gotten a chance to test his skills at it.

Dark_Times

The quiet of today seemed serene, peaceful, with only few gunshots ringing out in the air. This serenity was then interrupted by two bloodstained, well-dressed men kicking in your door, lugging with them an old, overweight man, his torso drenched in blood.

Even though this caught you by surprise, you could already tell that the overweight man was suffering from a bullet wound in his upper torso, which was turning his hundred-dollar suit a dark crimson.

"Someone tried to assassinate the boss! Ya' gotta' help us!" One of the men said as he and his friend dragged their wounded friend toward you.

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

Sephra followed Tésíx, silently. She removed her shoes before entering the dojo and bowed to Sensei. She frowned slightly at Sensei's comment about not needing to clean today. Wondering if Sensei would do anything about Seiji.. While in the dojo Sephra did pretty much exactly what Tésíx did. Hopefully it didn't bother him too terribly. She stood next to him while he spoke to Sensei, a small but serious smile on her face. Then when their conversation was over and Tésíx bowed, she did the same. A quiet giggle passing her lips at Tésíx being called a 'Yes-man', seriousness quickly returned before she spoke "Thank you, Sensei."

Omerta

"Of course, sensei. I aspire to greater things." Tésíx said casually as he moved toward the broom closet. "Let's go, Sephra."

Following Tésíx led you to the broom closet, where he withdrew a couple extendable dusters. He handed one to you, then pointed, with his thumb, at the other side of the room.

"You take that side, I've got this side." Tésíx said while he extended to duster.

Atroku was nearby, scrubbing the tatami mats to a shine. You could tell he was quite focused on cleaning.

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

Sephra nodded slightly before taking the broom "Thank you, Tésíx" She said softly as she headed towards the side of the room indicated by Tésíx's thumb. There had no mention of Sephra's hat being a problem, which was a relief. She had the feeling that Seiji was just one big facade. More than she usually did that is.

She extended her duster and got to work on the task at hand. A slight smirk spread across her face as she thought of Tésíx rubbing her ears. She giggled remembering Atroku's reaction. "Hopefully he's not upset" She said quietly so herself. Sephra began dancing a little as she dusted, making it fun and entertaining. Nothing too showy, just swaying her hips as she made up a little melody in her head.

RE: Dark_Times

Raiker spun around and knocked everything off of the operating table he had set up in the corner, "Set him down on that, and I hope you've come prepared to pay, as you know the more important the target the more you pay, same goes for me risky wounds".

He then went to his sink and cleaned off his hands before pulling on a pair of gloves, picked up his scalpel after cleaning it and turned to the table. "Right, you too wait outside, I need to focus", he opened the mans shirt and jacket to reveal the wound.

This was one lucky man, upon closer inspection the bullet had punched through his sternum and settled itself just below the heart to the right. He opened a case and took out a long thin instrument, it was a magnet on the end of a pole. He set about removing the bullet, cleaning and closing the wound.

Omerta

Dusting the pillars were relatively easy.

up-down-up-down-up-down.

You quickly wiped the minute amount of dust from the pillars, your rate quite a bit more rapid than Tésíx's. By the time Tésíx was finished, your broom was cleaned and in the closet. Atroku came in second, finishing the tatami mats of the entire dojo before Tésíx was done with the dusting.

Roukoro-sensei beckoned the three of you to his desk, to which you followed. With a smile, he gave a nod and pointed out on a colored paper where you had been marked for cleaning hours, even though you were here only for a bit.

"Everything's set. Good work, all three of you." Your sensei said kindly "And for you, Atroku-kun."

Roukoro-sensei put out his hand. Atroku bowed to your sensei, outstretching his hands to Roukoro-sensei's as he did so. Your sensei dropped a small, cute demon charm on a bit of nylon twine into Atroku's hands.

"You know what to do with it. I didn't give this to you, and the two of you didn't see me give it to him." Roukoro-sensei said seriously.

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

"Yeah, is there somewhere I can go to get changed?"

For someone who hadn't even held a gun until today, much yet fired one, it was funny that the thing that they were most concerned about was changing. But Mister Sir had said that she needed to change into the things that he had provided for her. Certainly, there had to be something on it or in it that he would use to spy on her - he seemed like that kind of person - but the thing that she was most concerned about was living. And, if following some shady and creepy guy like Mr. Sir was the only was to survive, she would do so for as long as it took.

"And with this gun I have, it's just point, aim, and squeeze, right? No levers to pull, no weird dances or voodoo to cast to make it work?"

The question was beyond ridiculous, but she just had to make sure. It was for the best that she knew before she went and inside and made a fool of herself.

Dark_Times

Retrieving the largest part of the bullet was quite easy. Upon examination, you could tell it was a hollow-point, and one of the prongs was missing. This is a bit startling, as the bullet was on his heart.

Did the bit of lead enter his heart? It seemed you would get your wish for an attempt at open-heart surgery today.

The two well-dressed men stood close by, almost leaning over your shoulder. You could almost hear them breathing.

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

Sephra cocked her head very slightly to the side in a cat-like manner when Sensei handed Atroku the charm. She didn't ask questions and nodded after sensei told them that it never happened. She bowed before looking to Atroku and Tésíx to see what they were going to do next. Where they were gonna go, she would probably follow seeing as she didn't want to get 'jumped' by large women.

RE: Dark_Times

Sighing he dropped the largest part of the bullet into a can and then began to set up the rest of his equipment, this included the anesthetic and the items to break open the sternum and hold the ribcage open. He turned slowly to the two men, "Now, this is a risky procedure, and there is no guarantee that he will survive it, where as he may live without it, it's fifty fifty".

His face was cold and serious, "Do you want me to go through with it?", he wasn't trying to back out for fear of this mans health, but for his reputation as a surgeon.

DudeGuy

"Sorry kid." The giant man said in his gruff voice. "People are supposed to come to work IN their uniforms. I guess you could use the bathroom in the shooting range. As for reloading that thing, it works like a derringer. Let me show you the proper voodoo dance."

His long, massive arms reached out to the gun you held in your hand and gently took it from your grasp. The man then showed you how bullets were loaded and shells were removed.

-Congratulations! You now have a basic knowledge of how to operate an S4M!-

After making you do it yourself a couple time, the giant man pointed to the doors.

"I think it's time for you to go fire that... Thing." He said, his voice growing awkward at the end.

He then pointed to the ear muffs and safety glasses in the box.

"Put these on before you go in there though. Don't want to lose your hearing." he said with a smirk.

Omerta

Tésíx was clearly suspicious of what was going on, but Atroku had a somewhat evil smile when he pocketed the charm. Something was definitely going on, since there were few things besides violence that made Atroku smile.

After the three of you give a respectful bow, you leave the dojo. Lunch hour, by this time, is over, and it's time for you to go to third period.

-Decide what third period is-

The three of you part ways, and you head off to your next class.

Dark_Times

Both the men immediately cut you off.

"Save his fuckin' life!" They both shout in unison.

It's quite clear they're willing to take the chance on their boss' life. Setting the proper tools into place, the fat man is now ready for open heart surgery. The sight of his alive, beating heart is a bit unnerving, but your skill and hand do not waver.

You may be new to this particular experience, but you know everything about it. It's time to plunge in.

RE: Dark_Times

Raiker slowly picked up the scalpel and examined the mans beating heart, the fragment was protruding from the mans left ventricle. He made a tiny incision just below the fragment to ease its removal. Next he picked up a set of tweezers and gently eased it out, moving quickly he sutured up the wound and then began preparing to close up.

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

It seems your surgery was a success. This "fat-cat" obviously lost a lot of blood, it clearly being smeared all over the uniforms of his lackeys, as well as his own. You remember that you have a some in cold storage, as well a small machine used to identify blood types.

The fat man's lackeys stood uncomfortably close to you. So much so that you could feel their chests on your back as they watched you suture up their boss' heart, then his skin.

"Is the boss gonna' be okay?" One of the lackeys said in almost a whisper.

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

Sephra waved to the boys as she headed to her next class. She had a music class, one she was quite fond of. She was learning to play an instrument. This class was like relaxation 101! Although in the back of her head she couldn't get out the thought of being followed or watched by the large women that had waited for her earlier. Now that her secret was out she didn't know what was highest on her priority's list.

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

Tésíx gave you a friendly wave goodbye, while Atroku gave his usual half-hearted wave and serious face. After leaving the sight of your companions, you get the distinct feeling that you are being watched.

The first people to come to mind were the bullies you saw near your door when you took Tésíx and Atroku to your room. Even though there's about 15 minutes until the bell, the courtyard is empty. Suspiciously so.

As you make your way toward the entrance to the building, a student steps out of the doors into the courtyard in front of you, obviously expecting you. It's one of the girls from before.

She stands before you, in an aggressive stance, a smirk on her face.

"Where do you think you're going, bitch?" An arrogant voice comes from behind, further away. The voice obviously belongs to the other girl who was waiting at your door. "You don't have those freaks around to defend you now."

There is one bully behind you, and another in front of you. The courtyard is empty. It's obvious that they were waiting for an opportune time to jump you, which backfired at your dorm room.

You have slight training in hand-to-hand combat, as well as fingernails shaped slightly like claws. There's a possibility you could win if you stayed and fought.

What do you do?

(Keep in mind that any combat actions should be PMed to me for stat-dependent combat.)

RE: Tears of Scarlet, Chapter 1: The End

For a moment, she debated mouthing off to the large man, informing him in a none-too-polite way that this wasn't exactly a job that she had signed up for. This had been forced upon her after an exceedingly stupid lapse in judgment. But, the thought came and went quickly. Seeing the massive arm that reached in her direction instantly made her second guess saying or doing anything dub enough to tick the big man off. One of his biceps was the size of her head after all.

After giving the voodoo dance a few tries, Touma got the hang of handling the weapon. Thankfully, it wasn't anything too complicated. If she felt any dumber than she thought she made herself look thus far, she would have have died from being so embarrassed. "Thanks, for everything," she said, accepting the items he handed to her. After flashing a smile, she hurried into the bathroom and changed.

After several minutes, she emerged in a standard issue female lab technician outfit. The false glasses were tucked into her pocket, but the choker she wore around her neck. Her ID was worn around her neck as well, the picture on it perfectly capturing her ever-so-charming scowl. It wasn't hard to imagine how unhappy she was after being caught, tied down, and having a black bag thrown over her head after all.

Touma slipped the ear muffs and glasses on as she walked into the firing range, her eyes quickly scanning her surroundings. It wasn't hard to imagine that there was something like this inside of JoJo, not after seeing and witnessing firsthand how well trained their soldiers were. But, it did make her wonder why she was here. What did that Mr. Sir have in store for her?

Before she knew what she was doing, the S4M was raised and aimed at a target a healthy distance away. She could see the target, the center of it, the head, and could faintly make out the markings. Touma already knew that it was unrealistic to expect to hit dead center immediately. So long as she could hit any part of the circles, she'd be satisfied. For the moment at least.

Her finger slowly began to pull back on the trigger, her heart beginning to race as she did so. Though this was making her extremely nervous it was also strangely. . .exhilarating.

When the trigger was pulled back as far as it would go, she could feel the sensation of the recoil of the weapon continuously shooting through her arms.

She just fired a gun for the first time in her life, and strangely enough, she didn't hate the feeling of doing so.
