After Andre left, she wrote a letter to him at night before going to sleep. Several times she'd had nurse complain about ink on her bed sheets or on her nightgown, but she didn't care. She began saving his letters, locking them away in a box. Each of her letters told him about what she'd done and the news in the town. But she never brought up his task or anything about him killing anyone in case anyone would ever intercept the letters and read them. When he told her of the secret cashes, she would go out with her nurse and fetch the items then write back to him, letting him know that she loved them. They might not have been as extravagant as those from her parents, but they meant so much more to her.
She was excited when he said he would be days away in a small town and she sent him a letter in reply. But when she heard of the murder of the Governor, she knew that he was the one to do it. She sent him one letter after that murder. But suddenly all her letters just stopped. Not one reached his friend though there was a rumor floating around the town about something that had happened between a local noble woman and a man. The rumors though were wild and completely fantastical. But somewhere in them, there was some truth.
