After Andre left, she wrote a letter to him at night before going to sleep. Several times she'd had nurse complain about ink on her bed sheets or on her nightgown, but she didn't care. She began saving his letters, locking them away in a box. Each of her letters told him about what she'd done and the news in the town. But she never brought up his task or anything about him killing anyone in case anyone would ever intercept the letters and read them. When he told her of the secret cashes, she would go out with her nurse and fetch the items then write back to him, letting him know that she loved them. They might not have been as extravagant as those from her parents, but they meant so much more to her.

She was excited when he said he would be days away in a small town and she sent him a letter in reply. But when she heard of the murder of the Governor, she knew that he was the one to do it. She sent him one letter after that murder. But suddenly all her letters just stopped. Not one reached his friend though there was a rumor floating around the town about something that had happened between a local noble woman and a man. The rumors though were wild and completely fantastical. But somewhere in them, there was some truth.

He came back to town the next day looking much like a nobleman and heading to his friends to pick up his letters. When he discovered she had not sent one he made his way immediately to her home. Knocking on her fathers door a bit nervously but masking it with a bright smile. His armor gone knowing he could not wear it right now. His dagger hidden in the small of his back but that remained hidden by his cloak. He stood back from the door waiting nervously wondering exactly what was going on with her.

It took several minutes for someone to answer the door after he knocked. When the door opened, a somber looking made peered up at him. "May I help you sir?" she asked softly, keeping the door only partially opened. Inside, Nurse could be heard calling downstairs for some water. It was clear the maid either didn't recognize him or she didn't remember him.

He smiled politely and bowed to her looking into her eyes. "I am here to see the lady of the house. I have been away on business for a long while i was hoping to see her again. " He spoke softly moving towards the door expecting to be invited in at any moment. He listened intently to the nurse trying to think of what she could be looking for with the water.

The maid gently bit her bottom lip when he asked to see the lady of the house before she nodded slightly, taking a step back to let him in. "Of course. Please come in." she said to him. "Please wait here." After he was in the house, she closed the door and headed up the steps to the second floor, disappearing around the corner towards Fayes bedroom. Several moments later a figure rushed out and down the steps. But it wasn't Faye. It was her nurse instead. When she saw him, she sighed and stopped in front of him. "Oh, it's you." she said softly. "Please follow me. Miss Faye has been asking for you." Turning, she lead the way upstairs. The maid that had opened the door was standing at the door way to Fayes rooms and when she saw the nurse, she left for another part of the house.

Andre took two stairs at a time with out even thinking passing the nurse as he made his way to her room. He moved inside the room and to her bed taking a deep breath as sat on the edge of it looking into her eyes. "Faye are you okay? " He spoke softly reaching out with his hand gently touching her cheek he was so nervous about what could be wrong with her. He knew she was prone to illness and thought the worst then his mind ran to the stories of the noble and he began to wonder what had happened if she was the lady they had mentioned.

The nurse gasped when he rushed past her and did her best to catch up. When she entered the sitting room and then moved to the bedroom door, she saw how Andre was sitting with Faye and paused, noticing how gentle he was with her ward. Smiling slightly, she closed the door to the bedroom before moving to sit before the fire.

Faye felt her bed sink and figured it was her nurse again before slowly opening her eyes when she heard him speak and she smiled up at him. There was a haunted look in her eyes. They were blood shot and tired. "Oh Andre." she whispered to him, lifting a small hand and placing it over his as she closed her eyes again with a soft sigh. "I'm so happy you're here." She gently nuzzled against his palm as she closed her eyes again.

He stared into her haunted eyes his thumb gently rubbing her cheek his mind racing as to what could be wrong with her. "I am here my love and my hands are clean, my shoulders light. " Assuming the nurse was just outside the door he wanted her to know that he was done killing and he wanted to be with her. "What is wrong my dear you look so distraught. " He spoke softly leaning in and kissing her forehead praying she was okay he was not sure what he would do should he have came all this way to lose her again.

Faye stared up at him as he spoke and she shook her head as tears filled her eyes as she laid there. Closing her eyes, she turned her face away from him and slowly opened them again to looked out the window. "But my hands are not." she whispered. "I have taken a mans life Andre." She looked at him again and some more tears fell down her pale cheeks. "He was a man of god and I killed him."

He took her hands and held them tightly looking into her eyes taking a deep breath looking into her eyes. "Tell me what happened darling and i will take care of everything. I am sure you did what you did for a reason, tell me what it is. " He spoke softly leaning down pressing his forehead against hers staring into her eyes. Clearly there was nothing she could say that would scare him away.

"That's just it... it all confuses me. I don't know what happened. Nurse and I were walking home and it was getting late. It was already hard to see and the lamps on the street hadn't been lit yet. I had dropped something so I paused to pick it up and nurse walked up ahead. Someone grabbed me from behind and I screamed, so nurse came to see what was going on." she said softly, more tears falling as she spoke. She gripped his hands tightly and shook her head slightly. "That's where things get... confusing. There... there was a struggle and I pulled out that knife you had given me. I was scared. I thought he was going to... he was going to rape me or kill me, so... I stabbed him. When I did he shouted in pain and let me go."

"If he was truly a man of god he would not have grabbed you like that no matter what his aim. He certainly would not have fought you when you drew your blade. " He then slowly moved to lay in bed next to her his cloak falling back revealing his knife to the door. He then wrapped his arms around her and held her to his chest. "It is going to be okay my dear you have nothing to worry about i promise you nothing bad will ever happen to you again. "

"He did not see the blade." she whispered. She closed her eyes again as he pulled her close, a soft sob escaping her as he held her against his chest and she gripped his shirt tightly in her heads. "I-I can still see his face after he had passed on. And the blood... I can still see it on my hands no matter how much I wash them."

He took her hand and brought it up to his lips kissing it softly and holding it to his lips. "Love it will be okay i promise you will forget his face soon enough. I promise you there is not a drop of blood on your hands my dear you believe in god, if it was not in his plan then he it would not have happened. " He spoke doing his best to sound heart felt but struggling as he was not a religious man nor had he ever been. He held her tight and kissed her hand softly again and again his arms holding her tightly. "Come back with me to my home, there no one will know what happened here. There will be no whispers no harsh looks. I can just be us being happy again together. "

She watched him bring her hand to his lips and press a soft kiss to it. He was able to make her feel a little better, but she still felt the horrible guilt of taking a life. When he told her to go to his home wit him, she shook her head slightly. "I can't. My father... he would never allow it. Not only because of my health, but because it would be inappropriate. An unwed woman going off with a man not of her family... the rumors would just get worse."

"Then marry me. " He spoke softly looking into her eyes giving her hand a soft squeeze staring into her eyes. "I will hire the best doctors to take care of you and i will give my life to make certain you are safe. All i ask from you is for you to love me and let me carry your burdens. " He stared into her eyes wishing he had spoken a bit softer having not wanted that to be said so loud knowing her nurse would have heard it. It was not the way he wanted to propose to her or the time but he needed her to be the happy loving girl he had met so long ago.

Faye stared up at him in surprise and shock when he told her to marry him, her eyes wide. "Marriage?" she murmured to him, stared at Andre as he went on, telling her what he would give her and she reached up, running her fingers over his cheek. "Shh, you don't have to offer me all that. All you had to do was ask me and I'd say yes. But you should ask my father." She smiled gently before moving a little closer to him and laying her head down on his shoulder.

"I am not moving an inch until i am certain you are able to rest. " He said softly his heart racing as though he had sprinted across town. Leaning in he kissed her neck lightly wrapping his arms around her tightly simply laying here holding her close. His face remained buried in her neck glad that she seemed to have forgotten her troubles and that pleased him he was just so happy that she was seeming to react.

She smiled gently before pulling her blankets up around her some more with a soft yawn. She hadn't slept well in days and she was exhausted. It was even taking a toll on her health, not being able to sleep. When he kissed her neck, she sighed and relaxed some more before slowly closing her eyes as he held her close. In no time she was fast asleep, her breathing slowing down and becoming deeper as she fell asleep.

He waited for her to drift into a deep sleep laying here holding her for several long minuets after she had drifted off. He slowly slipped from her bed trying not to disturb her gently fixing her bed and turning. He then slipped silently from the room his cloak bunching awkwardly on his dagger as he left the room walking with a slow determination down stairs to find her father he was terrified of this conversation.

Faye sighed as he slipped out of her bed and she frowned slightly before turning over onto her side and curling up in her bed. As he left her room, her nurse looked up an watched him leave before she got up and checked on Faye, smiling with a sigh or relief when she saw the young woman sleeping.

Downstairs, Bernard was in his office talking to someone, his voice raised as he argued with who ever it was he was with. "I don't care what you think! My daughter is a good girl and she will marry who ever she chooses." he said and there was a soft calm reply. "No, I'm not letting her control my thinking, but her happiness does take precedent over everything else. Her happiness and health. Now get out." A moment later the door of the office opened and a man stepped out, ignoring Andre as he hurried out of the house.

Andre slowly entered the room and looked at the man he had grown to like over dinner a few months ago. "Hello sir. How have you been. It has been quite some time since we last saw each other. " He slowly made his way into the room giving the man a weak smile. The man who had just left would not make his task any easier but he would have to try. Slowly making his way over to his desk offering him his hand as he reached it hoping the man still liked him.

Bernard heard footsteps behind him from where he stood with his back to the door, a drink in hand, and thought it was the man that he'd just chased away. "I thought I told you..." he began and turned, stopping short when he saw Andre standing there and h stared for a moment as the young man spoke. Bernard looked more then a little stressed and tired but other then that he seemed to be in good health. When Andre held out his hand to him, Bernard smiled tiredly before setting his drink down and shaking his hand. "I've been better." he said truthfully. "It's good to see you again Andre."

"It is good to see you as well. I actually came to speak to you about something rather important. I would like to do what i can to help relieve some of both your stress and your daughters troubles. I... I want to marry your daughter... immediately i want to take her out of this town so she can be free of the stares and the rumors. " He spoke softly though he kept his confidence his stomach twisting into every possible direction.

"Marriage? That's a very serious decision." Bernard said as he moved to sit down behind his desk. "And it's not one to be taken lightly. Why is it you wish to marry her?" He picked up his drink once more and took a sip while gazing at Andre. "And when exactly do you plan on marrying her? I know she wants one of those weddings with the dress and all the flowers." He sighed and shook her head slightly.
