She moved over to the window and looked down into the street. She could see men running through the streets and it didn't take her long to figure out they were guards. Shaking her head, she pulled the drapes and covered the window, making sure the light from the room would be able to be seen from outside. She frowned after hearing that he was being chased and it didn't take her long to deduce that he was being chased by the guards that were running through the streets at the moment. "What did you do?" she asked softly. "The guards in the city don't chase a man for no reason."

She paused near the bed as she trembled a little from the cool air that had entered the room when he climbed in the window. If her nurse found out that the window had been open at night, she would have a fit and lecture her about letting the warmth of the room out and letting in the cold. "I'm not worried about impropriety. I'm worried about getting in trouble with nurse and I wish to know why I had to risk my health opening a window in the middle of the night."

He looked at her for several long moments trying to decide how he was going to handle this. He had never had to tell anyone who he was he had always remained quiet about just what he did. "A bad man no, can no longer hurt those of this city, his plans to harm it greatly will now grind to a halt. " He took a deep breath slowly slipping his blood stained hand and gauntlet into view. Taking a deep breath as he looked down at the red liquid staining the dark steel.

He lowered his head and began to stand figuring she would demand he leave. Slowly he made his way back to the window slowly peeking out of a crack down to the street. "I am sorry for making you risk your health. It will not happen again I shall make certain i never put you at risk again. "

She stood there patiently waiting for his reply, her arms crossed over her chest and her eyes locked on his form. At first his words confused her, a frown forming on her face as she gazed at him and she slowly shook her head until he slipped his hand out of his cloak and she cleared her throat a little nervously before slowly walking towards him. "You're talking about that man that lives near the middle of the city aren't you?" she asked softly. "Nurse says that he's a very bad man. She tells me to stay away from him as much as I can unless I don't have a choice." Faye watched him move to the window and look out.

Moving over next to him, she placed a hand on his arm and gently pulled him away from the window. "You shouldn't be peeking out if you're hiding from them." she whispered. "Come. You should be able to clean up a bit in the bathroom." Releasing his arm, she turned and padded over to the open room that was attached to her bedroom and she lit two of the lanterns in the room so that he could see the large water basin in the room and the water pitcher sitting on one of the tables in the room as well as a couple of towels and washcloths.

He looked at her nervous afraid she was going to turn him in when she got closer. "Yes, you need not fear him anymore, he has reaped what he sowed. " He spoke softly turning with her and allowing her to lead him from the room. He took his cloak of slowly laying it next to him on the table. His leather armor with metal embossing covering his torso rightly revealing some of his sleek build. "Thank you for your aid malady, it takes a truly good heart to aid a man who has just admitted to you what i have. "

He spoke softly taking off his gauntlet and dipping his hand into the cool water slowly whipping the blood off with the wash cloth. He let out a soft sigh his lips moving silently as he said a silent prayer for his own soul being an assassin was beginning to weigh on him. He was not sure how much longer he could handle this life. He would have loved to quit but he still had work to do.

She blushed when he removed his cloak and she glanced away for the moment before looking at him again as he spoke and she smiled slightly. "I actually wish to thank you. That man.... he'd been trying to convince my father to arrange a marriage between us. I know that this may sound selfish. He's been through seven wives already and each one passed on in child birth like my mother." she said. She was actually embarrassed that she was thankful that he did what he did. She silently entered the washroom while he began washing the blood off.

She could see the once clear water becoming a murky red as he washed up. "You know... you never did introduce yourself when we were walking through town." she said with a small smile before looking at the water again. "And you don't have to worry about cleaning all this up when you're done. Nurse and the maids will think the mess is from me."

He turned to face her as he whipped the blood up off the gauntlet with one of the moist washcloths. He took a deep breath as she spoke slipping the gauntlet back onto his wrist flexing his hand lightly. "I have seen men die for more selfish reasons though you do know that if your meant to pass in birth, it matters not who the father is. " He said softly looking at her taking the cloth looking down at the now blood stained rag. His mind wondering as to how she could explain away so much blood.

"My name is Adrien Alexander."He spoke softly bowing slightly towards her before taking the knife on his hip from its harness. His sword dangling at his side the long thing blade exposed after the first few inches after the pommel. His hand slipped the dagger into the water then set to work cleaning the blade. "I owe you my life i promise that is a debt i do not take likely. "

"But it does matter who the father is. Not only do I not love him, but all of his wives died of the same reason in childbirth. Each time the child was too large for the mother and they ended up bleeding out." she said softly. "I do not wish to die the same way." She looked down at her hands as she pulled her robe closer around her, rubbing her arms gently. When he said his name, she looked up at him with a small smile. "Adrien...." she murmured before nodding. She moved over to the window at the far side of the bathroom and peered out to see soldiers running up and down the streets.

The young woman knew that the soldiers would start searching houses soon and she was going to have to hide him if they were to enter the house. At the mention of him owing her his life, she looked up at him. "You don't owe me anything." she said softly while brushing her hair out of her face and moving over to the wash basin. While most women would of had a fit because of the dagger, she didn't mind. She stood there calmly in front of him as he cleaned the knife.

Once it was cleaned he placed it back into his sheath closing the clasp to hold it in place before turning to face her. "You need not fear anything that man can do the truly dead can not harm the living. I assure you he is truly dead. " He spoke softly looking at her slowly reaching out placing his hand on her arm. "Do you have a fireplace around here The guards will begin searching houses soon and they never think to look in the fireplace. " He spoke softly hoping she would have a large fire place so he could crawl up into the chimney.

It was wear he hid everything in his own home having built the chimney for that purpose. He looked into her eyes for a moment his face showing sadness both for the lives he changed tonight. And due to the knowledge her fond opinion of him had irrevocably changed. He would for ever be an angel of death in her eyes certainly she would think ill of him if he knew why he was going to be profiting from the death.

Feeling his hand on her arm, she looked down at it before looking up at him. "There are plenty of fireplaces in the house. But all of the ones in my rooms have a fire burning in them." she said softly before turning and grabbing a towel. Reaching out, she gently began drying his hands off before tossing the towel into the hamper in the corner. "Don't worry, even if they do come into my rooms, they wouldn't dare to look everywhere in my rooms. It's inappropriate and nurse wouldn't stand for it."

Turning, she headed out of the bathroom and moved to stand near the roaring fire that was in the fireplace. She shivered as the warmth of the fire seeped into her body, warming her. Rubbing her arms, she sighed softly and smiled a little while running her fingers through her hair again.

He followed her silently reaching moving to stand next to her taking a slow breath following it with a soft sigh. "Those places would also be inappropriate for me to hide. " He said softly looking at her taking a deep breath. He wanted so badly to remain as polite as he could with out being some form of threat to her. "Is there anyone in your home who remains awake all night? I am very good at sneaking around as long as you have no weak boards. "

Glancing at her he would much rather not hide in her room. If he where found she would be punished for hiding him and it would harm her reputation. He would much rather take his risk hiding some where down stairs. He knew he could find a decent place to hide in such a large home they certainly would not search it entirely.

She looked up at him and smiled. "I don't know if you've noticed, but it was my bedroom that you climbed into. I'll be lucky if no one noticed you when you were climbing inside and hasn't come to tell my father that a man was seen climbing through his innocent, virtuous daughters window." she said with a small smile while gazing up at him from the corner of her eyes. She rubbed her arms a little and sighed softly while gazing into the fire that was burning in the fireplace. When he asked about people staying away, she sighed and turned to him. "Yes, there is usually someone awake. It's usually someone that is doing a late night chore or my father might be up late working or having a drink."

She stood there in silence before suddenly remembering something. "Come with me." she said softly. "But be very quiet." She moved over to a jewelry box and she reached inside, removing a heavy iron key. Turning, she headed over to the door that led out to the sitting room and she opened it. Looking out, she saw that her nurse was still sleeping and she silently padded over to the door that led out into the long dark hallway then she looked back to see if he was following her.

He smiled at her as she spoke of her innocence and virtue silently chuckling. He was not certain if she was trying to tease him or entice him. He was having such a difficult time reading her she was very good at masking her feelings. He nodded silently and followed her closely blindly trusting her. At this point is she wished to betray him he would have no chance anyways.

He moved silently the smooth soft leather soles of his shoes making no noise on the floor below him. He had learned long ago to change his shoes before entering someones home at night. His hand gripped the pommel of his sword keeping it from swaying and betraying him by rattling or bumping into something.

She nodded slightly when she saw him behind her before looking forward and starting down the hall. Her bare feet not making a sound as she led him down the hall. About half way down she paused and pressed herself to the wall as a maid exited a room up ahead. The young woman remained silent and still as the other woman moved around the corner and headed down the steps. Sighing, she shook her head and continued further down the hall to a door at the far end. Taking the key, she slid it into the lock and turned it slowly, frowning when it clicked several times before she finally pushed the door open.

The door gave a very soft groan of protest as it opened and she reached back, grabbing Adrian's arm and pulling him into the room quickly before closing the door, making sure to remove the key and she locked it from the inside. Turning back around, she looked around the room and bit her bottom lip while looking around the room despite the lack of light. "This was my mothers rooms before she passed." she said softly. "No one comes in here anymore other then me and nurse. We clean it ourselves and tend to everything. You should be able to hide in here."

He sighed as they entered the black room his hand reaching out placing his hand on her lower back. He took a deep breath sighing softly his eyes quickly adjusting to the blackness of the room. "I am honored that you would let me enter this room. I promise you i will not touch a thing. "Will i be safe to stay in her until tomorrow night? I do not dare keep you up a minuet longer. " He said softly hoping she would tell him he would be safe.

He already felt terrible about waking her from her sleep and risking her health by letting in the cold night air. His eyes searching the blackness for her almost wishing she would not leave him. He was not very certain about being locked inside a room in a strange house with no way out.

She shivered as she looked around the dark room, her eyes slowly adjusting to the light while she rubbed her arms, shivering from the cold of the room. "Yes, you should be safe in here." she replied. "If you should need to get out, there is a second key in the jewel box on the mantle and the window at the left of the room opens onto the back roof." Faye moved over to the jewelry box that sat on the mantle and opened it, pulling out a metal key just like the one she had and she held it out to him.

"If the guards enter the house and attempt to come in here, I shall stall them as long as possible before they open the door. That way you may leave through the window. Just make sure you close it behind you." she said gently. "Or if you need anything, you may seek me out again as long as you're careful and quiet and you don't get caught." She moved over to him and smiled gently. Faye was a good woman and it showed. After all, she was risking her own reputation.

He smiled gently taking the key from her and then taking her hand. Slowly he lifted it to his lips pressing it gently against his lips smiling softly. "Thank you for your aid malady I can truly never repay you for your kindness. " He spoke softly his fingers slowly slipping from her grasp as he moved over to the window. He was calm but slightly nervous knowing it could be the end of his revenge if they found him her.

He turned looking to her taking a deep breath letting out a soft sigh biting his lip nervously. "Malady would you be able to venture out into the city tomorrow? If you could I would greatly appreciate your company tomorrow just before lunch. I will be where we first met if you arrive i would delight in taking you to lunch. " He said softly looking at her threw the darkness only able to see her outline wishing he could see her face to know how she felt about that.

A light blush made its way into her cheeks when he took her hand and lifted it to his lips, pressing a kiss to them and she giggled softly. "You are very welcome Adrien." she said softly. "And you can repay me by staying out of trouble." There was a teasing lilt to her voice as she grinned at him, her eyes glimmering brightly in the dim light that shone through the open drapes. While he held her hand, she ran her thumb over the back of his hand until he released it and she watched him move to the window.

At his invitation to lunch and she smiled gently with a slight shrug. "It would depend on many things. Things like the weather. Whether I'm feeling alright in the morn or if my father will allow me out tomorrow." she said gently. "I shall ask nurse if we could go into the market square tomorrow. If I am healthy tomorrow and things are looking up, then I shall be there." As she spoke, she moved to stand next to him so that they could see each other by moonlight.

"I certainly hope you are feeling well and the weather holds out to give us a few moments together. " He spoke softly reaching out placing his hand once again on her arm. "I can not promise you to keep out of trouble. It is what i do best after all getting myself into messy situations. " He spoke softly wanting to warn her about what she was getting herself into by associating herself with him.

"Would it be terribly rude of me to ask what it is that is ailing you? I am sorry if it is i have a cats curiosity at times. " He spoke softly his head angled down but his eyes remained locked onto hers. The way the moon lit her eyes fascinated him it made him want to stare into them all night. Even knowing what ill that would cause both of them, he felt for now it was worth that risk.

Feeling his hand on her arm, she did not look away from his eyes while reaching over and placing her hand on top of his. "I hope it does as well. I do hate being locked up in the house all day long. It is rather droll and laying in bed most of the time doesn't help." she said before arching an eyebrow with a chuckle at his words and she nodded. "I'm sure it is. Just be careful." she said with another chuckle. "I do not wish to hear that you'd gotten yourself killed." She patted his hand gently before frowning slightly at his question.

"My ailment." she murmured before looking out the window for a moment then looking back up into his eyes. "The doctors are not entirely sure. But they do know that it is not contagious. If it were, nurse would of caught it by now. I am just more susceptible to illnesses. That's why nurse keeps me away from the cold. It sends me into coughing fits and then I end up getting sick and I'm forced to stay in bed for day, even weeks at a time." She sighed and ran her fingers through her hair which was laying down around her shoulders and framing her pale face.

"Well then I feel terrible for exposing you to the cold. " He said softly giving her arm a gentle squeeze, he loved being able to stand so close to her and have her touching him so gently. "Go to bed my dear you need your rest and i have taken you from enough of it. I shall see you soon enough. I do owe you my life after all. " He said with a soft smile wanting so badly to kiss her, but she was not like the women who he usually stumbled across.

She was a true lady and he knew he needed to give her the respect a woman she commanded. He was excited to do so it was a new feeling for him knowing he was talking to someone in with such a proud station. He knelt down reaching into his boot pulling out a long thin blade covered in its decorative leather sheath. The handle was bound in fine leather and gold covered the pommel and handle guard.

The blade was only an inch wide at the base and was nearly 9 inches long. "This blade is called a stiletto it is designed for slipping threw leather and fabric. " He spoke softly placing the blade in her hand closing her hand around it gently. "My mother told me long ago, a woman with no guard should be able to defend herself. This blade is easy to hide in the fabrics of your clothing. Even if you choose not to carry it. It will be something you can remember me by should we not see each other again for some time. "

"It's alright. I should be fine. I've taken my elixir and I've had my tea." she said with a chuckle while he squeezed her small hand. At his order to go to bed, she nodded before yawning softly and giggling. "Yes, I suppose you're right. I do need my sleep." she replied while rubbing her eyes and chuckling with a grin. She was about to turn and walk away when he knelt down before her and she paused, watching as he removed a blade from his boot and she arched an eyebrow.

She was surprised when he placed the knife into her hand and closed her fingers around it but the look of surprise went away. "Your mother?" she murmured before looking up into his eyes and smiling. "Your mother was a wise woman. Thank you Adrien. I shall keep this close at all times. For both defense and to remember you." Moving up to him, she stood on her tiptoes and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek near the corner of his mouth. "Goodnight Adrien. I will be locking it from the outside, but you'll be able to unlock it with that key. May your night be peaceful and I hope we meet again on nicer terms." she said.

Turning she headed over to the door and opened it, glancing back momentarily before slipping out and closing the door behind her. A moment later there was a click of the door locking then silence. She made her way quickly back down the hall to her rooms and slipped inside, smiling when she saw nurse still fast asleep and she passed her and went into her bedroom where she removed her robe and draped it back over a chair and she returned to bed. The moment she had the covers pulled up around her once more, she was fast asleep.

Adrien watched her leave taking a deep breath as he heard the door click shut. A soft happy smiled as he went back to the window peeking out over the roof. His eyes scanned the area around her home hoping the guards had moved on. He knew they would not rest tonight until they thought he had been chased from the city. He moved slowly over to the a chair he had found in the room setting down slowly.

He closed his eyes to relax not falling asleep he laid there silently hoping no one would come to find him tonight. He groaned softly his hand reaching up to his cheek running his finger over where she had kissed. She was only a short distance from pressing a soft kiss on his lips. Oh how he wished she had missed slightly to the right.

Faye slept peacefully through the night and rather late into the morning. Her nurse checked in on her and began to worry because the girl was always up early and she began thinking perhaps she was getting sick. But before she could begin to worry too much, the young woman woke up and the older woman helped her to bathe and ready for the day ahead. It was while she was bathing that she asked about going into the market again a little later that afternoon. Nurse didn't give a straight out answer. She just said, "Let me speak with your father first." before helping her into her light green dress and doing her hair.

Nurse pulled some of Fayes hair back and held it up with a comb while letting the rest hang free around her face and shoulders. After she was dressed, Nurse stood back and smiled gently. "I don't know how you do it but you always manage to look so beautiful." she said to the girl and Faye laughed before they headed downstairs to speak with her father. At first he was very reluctant because he had received reports of a murderer loose in the town, but eventually his daughter persuaded him.

It was nearing morning when the bustling in the streets below finally fell silent. Standing slowly he went to the mantle and placed the key back in its rightful home. From there he moved to the window opening it and slipping out onto the roof. His Inn was not far away and having requested a second floor balcony he would never need to touch the street. Closing the window behind him he set out for his room. Within minuets he was standing on the balcony and slipping open the door to his room. He was exhausted and quickly stripped his armor off and leaving it in a pile on the floor before retiring to bed.

It was nearly noon before he woke having fought the light of the morning as long as he could. Rising quickly he bathed and then got dressed, slipping his armor on first before slipping on a large shirt and pants. They would be nearly falling off him if it was not for his armor. Though with it on he they looked quite fine, the black cloth trimmed in gold and deep red. He then went back to his closet gathering the cloak his mother had given him when he left.

The black cloak held his family crest on the back a red shield with gold trimmings and decorations. The inside was a simple red cloak that shared the trimming of its other side. It had been designed to be turned inside out when in an area where his crest need be hidden. The cloak was light but he always found it very comfortable as it kept out the wind well and held in heat even better.

With that done he made his way out to the streets his hood pulled back up hiding his face from any who may recognize him. He moved quickly threw the town making his way back to where he had promised to meet her. And there he remained, staying until she arrived his heart remaining hopeful she would do just that.

After a good bit of persuading and needling at her father, he finally consented and gave her permission to go out. However, he wanted her to wear her cloak because it was a little nippy out. Smiling at him, she gave her father a kiss and hurried off to put on her shoes and to collect her basket, the same one she used the day before. But this time she slipped the knife he gave her into the bottom of the basket beneath the cushion and the cloth that was kept inside. She hoped that she would not ever need to use it. But little did she know, she would need it sooner then she would of liked.

Heading back downstairs, she set the basket down and let nurse help her into her cloak. It was rich black velvet lined with rabbit fur. It was a winter cloak but she wore it anytime it was even a tiny bit cold out. She clasped the cloak at the base of her throat and pulled up the hood while Nurse took her basket and they headed out. They headed through town to the market place where they looked around before she spotted him standing right where they had run into each other and she approached him with Nurse trailing along behind her.

Once she reached him, she reached out and placed a hand on his arm. "Good afternoon Adrien." she said softly.
