Alexan loved the feel of her hand in his and tingled every time she stroked his skin but soon the injuries beat on him and he drifted into sleep. He slept the sleep of the dead, though thankfully he was not deceased, and dreamed. He dreamed of the two of them, standing in a meadow with flowers blooming everywhere, he keeping her company while she painted the scene before them. Then his dreamed moved to a night time dinner, sitting at his table, each of them drinking tea. He liked these dreams, though he knew they were not meant to be, but still, at least he found joy in a dream instead of not at all. Finally, the dreams faded, to be replaced by throbbing pain, which he suffered in silence. Many hours later, he awoke slowly, his eyes propping open against the glare from the room light. He glanced to his side and didnât see Susan and his heart began to speed up. âSusan?â he whispered hoarsely, his mouth and throat dry. âSusan, where are you?â he said again, struggling to sit up. He was worried about her.
