Alexan listened to the silence after he spoke and he realized his words had no affect. That saddened him but he supposed he understood. As he turned to walk away, her voice floated through the door and his heart soared. Turning back, a smile on his face, he called out to her. âGood night Susan. Sweet dreams.â He grinned the entire time he walked down the hall and into the living room. He put away the dishes and shut off the lights, then retired to his room. He lay in the dark for an hour, thinking about Susan, alone in the room next to his, and he couldnât seem to fall asleep. Suddenly, he turned to the wall. Was that a noise? He thought heâd heard something in her room. He got up from the bed and went to the wall, trying to listen through it but he could hear nothing. He jerked again. Another noise. Or so he thought at least. Now he began to pace, worried that something was wrong next door. Deep down, he knew it was just his mind making up an excuse for him to go into her room but at the surface he didnât realize that. He knew she would be angry if she found him in his room but he was out of his mind with worry. Sighing, he left his room and moved to her door, silently turning the knob. It opened to his touch and he slipped into her darkened room. He saw her in bed then, the faint glow from the Zendac moon splayed out over her form, and his heart started beating faster. She was a rare and beautiful creature, even in sleep. A quick look around her room verified that there was no danger but he couldnât seem to turn away from her. He stared at her for a few more minutes, then finally forced himself to turn to the door so he could leave.
