Rallon also noted the prince's lack of respect, but he didn't care. He and Cynthia had been working on a special trick for this event.
Despite her impressive size and numerous skills and abilities, she was inescapably a dog. meaning stairs forced her to choose how to go down, usually running down her head aimed like a dart at the floor below.
Tonight however she stood parallel to the steps, bowed to the crowd, to her parents, to the Queen, then walked sideways down the stairs. it was odd, but very graceful, and the crowd loved it, clapping more.
Cynthia was praised and cheered as she made her way through the crowd, but no one dared touch her.
She went right up to her parents and bowed. Rallon smiled. "Beautifully done my love. Now go enjoy yourself while i dance with your mother."
She barked, rose up, paws pressing to Rallon's chest, and licked his chin. her eyes sparkled happily. Rallon kissing her between the eyes, then shifted so she could press her nose against her mother's neck. She hated the taste of makeup. Then she was off, being drawn into a rather silly looking but very sweet dancing with Thea, or rather Thea leaning on the wolf while Cynthia spun in circles.
Rallon lead Rose into their own dance, a much more graceful waltz as her belly precluded much else, and smiled. "We made it my love." Her chuckled. "Do you thin Cynthia would let anyone else make her look so silly?" Thea would always be Cynthia's favorite.
He was about to ask another question when her heard the name, "Baron Antoine Guiseppe of Sicily!" Rallon froze, whispered something, then turned to the door. He gave a tremble, then exploded. "TONY!"
The whole room froze as Rallon, snapping his fingers at Cynthia who instantly joined her mother, rushed the big fat man at the door and gave him a crushing hug that made the fellow squeak and gasp. Then Rallon set him down, took his arm and dragged him to Rose. "My Lady Rose, this is Tony. A dear friend I though long dead. Tony is the finest sailor in the Mediteranean, and saved my life when I first left for the Holy Land."
The man mumbled something but Rallon would have none it. "Tony, this is Rose. And Cynthia." The man had been trying to say something, more focused on his old friend, but froze upon seeing Rose. He was of a height with Rallon, but clearly older, and far fatter. His neck was thick with wattles, and his belly swayed even as he stood, but there was a hardness to him. He was arrayed in the most exquisite purple, including his massive feathered hat. he now swept this from his head, and gave the most intricate bow to the Lady of York, then straightened and spoke in a very thick Sicilian accent. "It is good to see my old friend Rallon. But it is my delight to meet the lady he spoke of whom so often and so fondly. But even his praise does not do you justice dear lady. Truly a vision of beauty. It is an honor. I apologize but I did not bring a suitable gift."
A small man had followed the fat man and Rallon and he spoke. "Master we brought two chests of gold and silver and the titles of four of our best ships!"
Tony spat out. "Fool. As if such trinkets would be worthy of such perfection! Lady Rose i humbly offer these trifles as my apology for not bringing you suitable gifts." Rallon smirked at this, still positively bouncing with joy at his seeing his old friend.
Tony placed four documents into Rose's hand, then he kissed her most respectfully, then spied Cynthia, and stood, releasing Rose's hand gently and with a little sadness. "Ah! The Lady of the hour. i brought something for you as well Lady Cynthia. Your father also spoke of you. though i am not certain it will please you. I am certain it is not worthy of you. You are as beautiful as your mother."
Some whispered at this but Rallon just grinned wider as Cynthia pressed against her mother and ruffled her head. Rallon chuckled. "She is grateful for the compliment old friend but she says no one could compare to her mother."
Tony smiled. "Of course she did. What daughter would say anything else? But still i have a gift i hope pleases you." The party was resuming somewhat but everyone was eager to know what the gift was.
Tony gestured and two large sailors entered, leading a massive full blooded wolf. Lean and wild, yet simply gorgeously handsome. His fur was black as pitch, his eyes so blue as to be white, his paws the size of a horse's hoof. His eyes were locked solely on Cynthia.
Tony spoke very softly. "He is a Transylvanian wolf. Captured and trained by the dog masters of Turkey. An exceptional creature and fighter. His name is Tuchesi. We called him Tuch." The named rhymed with shush.
The people were clamoring were the great beast. Tony gestured at his men who moved back. "Officially I give him to you Lord Granger. Tuchesi."
The wolf finally tore his gaze from Cynthia and looked at the fat man. Tony pointed at Rallon. "Maestro." Then he pointed at Rose. "Padrona." The wolf huffed but walked over to Rallon and sat staring up at him silently, perfectly still.
Rallon looked at his friend. "Italian only?"
Tony shook his head. "He knows English as well. But he was trained to be a gift to the Sultan but he was too wild. So I obtained him. I have carefully not named myself his owner, nor has anyone else, and ensured he was properly trained. He is still a wolf, but I felt he might suit Lady Cynthia?"
Cynthia clearly thought so. Her eyes glowed and she clearly longed to greet this newcomer, but her daddy had not given permission.
Rallon considered, then looked at Tuchesi. "Tuchesi, stand."
The wolf raised his forelegs and rose up on his backlegs, perfectly balanced and still as stone. His eyes were nearly level with Rallon's. They were wild, but while the wolf held his new master's gaze, he made no threat. Rallon held the gaze. "Sit." The wolf obeyed, still looking back. Rallon let his eyes widen and the wolf bowed then rolled onto his back and showed his neck and belly, submitting entirely.
Rallon nodded, then gestured at Thea. "Collect that girl and bring her here."
people gasped, horrified the wolf would maul the child, but Thea, though a little nervous, stood strong as Tuchesi huffed, then walked over and gently took Thea by the hand and leaf her to his master, then sat awaiting orders. Rallon took her hand and smiled. No so much as drool stain on her arm.
He looked at Cynthia. "Will he do?" She huffed, nodding.
"Come meet him. Tuchesi you will not move."
Tuchesi froze, though his eyes followed the gorgeous female as she neared him, sniffing him all over. Finally she licked his muzzle. He did not react. She grabbed his ears and twisted, making him lay beneath her. He growled at the pain but did not fight back. She then licked his face and ear, and despite himself he licked her back, though Rallon let this one go.
She nuzzled the wolf and helped him back up, then sat beside him, looking at her father and huffed nodding again, her eyes wild now.
Rallon smiled. "Alright then. go hunt you two. but Cynthia you will be home before midnight. Understand?" She barked.
"Tuchesi you will protect my daughter only from threats she attacks. and you will be here with her when she returns. Understand?" He gave his own bark, deep and rough. Rallon nodded. "Alright off with you both."
Tuchesi bowed, then let Cynthia lead him out. She was leaner than he and about six inches shorter, but she was the lady, and this was her land. The people made way, then jumped when, as one, the two suddenly raised their heads and howled, loud and clear, then were off bounding into the wilds of York.
Rallon smiled and clapped Tony on the arm. "Tony my friend you have answered a concern I have long worried about. Though now i wonder how wild their children will be. How did you obtain him anyway?"
Tony grinned. "The Sultan owed me quite a sum for arranging for two of his, distractions, to attend functions his wife had expressly forbidden them from being near. He tried to skip on his bill."
Rallon laughed. "And I know that wouldn't fly....you didn't-"
"No no no. i would never. Well.. not at first. But I did send the Sultanah a present."
Rallon smirked. The party was still chattering about the wolves, but now Rallon and Tony and Rose had been forgotten. They had never seen such a thing. Rallon nudged the fat man. "What was the present?"
"A butler who informed her that her husband was sleeping with one of the mistresses at the girl's house. She was not pleased."
"Well he is the Sultan. He-"
"Promised not to sleep with any woman save his Sultanah for two years."
"How long did he make it?"
"About thirty minutes." Both men laughed, then Rallon blinked and looked at Rose. "Rose my love I am sorry we have been chattering away when i promised you a dance."
Tony coughed. "I believe you promised me anything should I see you again?"
Rallon nodded. "I did." A few nearby were nervous, but Rallon, for once, seemed entirely at ease.
Tony gestured to Rose. "To dance with this lady. She reminds me so of my sweet Appelonia." Rallon nodded. "If Rose agrees only."
Both men looked at Rose, patient and smiling. Rallon would of course not be far, and seemed certain Tony would never harm her in any case.
Tony, fat as he was, was very light on his feet, and shifted around his friend suddenly, spinning expertly out of the way of two other dancers. He smiled at Rose, his fat jolly face open and free. "It would be an honor I would treasure forever dear Lady. Do forgive my forward behavior in asking."
