What are you reading?

I just started M.A.R. Barker's The Man of Gold. Not exactly my usual flavor of fantasy but so far so good.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of it when you're done. Always been low key interested in the Tekumel setting.

For myself I was reading Mirage Men: A Journey into Disinformation, Paranoia and UFOs. I've watched the documentary that is based on the book and found that interesting; but I've found myself a bit stimmed as it turns out that some pages are missing from my copy.

In the mean time I've been reading Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & the Dark Heart of the Hippie Dream. Which has been interesting if a little too conspiratorial for my tastes; but I'm mostly reading it for ideas for a Fall of Delta Green campaign where the CIA actually does Operation Northwoods at the behest of the King in Yellow.

I really enjoyed The Witcher on Netflix, but after some strange plotlines in season 2, I wound up reading the books to see what was and wasn't canon. At this point, I'd highly recommend the books over the show. They're much better.

Abe the Wizard, Web Novel.

Which people translating it is pretty far, dunno if they stuck with it all the way; but last chapter I checked was by same people translating it.

-Cultivation elements checked(Nothing too excessive like in most Wuxia like novels. They are there, but if you read other novels with such there is often more emphasis on the cultivation aspect of things.)
-Medieval world
-Fantasy creatures
-Weak to strong (Some cheat elements.)
-Transmigration
-Age Progression
-World/character development(From what I read of almost 100chapters so far. There is over 1k mind you, so I haven't read them all.)
-Believable characters that don't feel cookie cutter. (Again, from what I read so far. You know how some novels just throw characters in there that are kinda like backdrops. A lot of the supporting ones have their own drives and ambitions. Again, dunno how much it sticks to them as I am not more than 100 chapters in and this is a very long on going Web Novel.)
-Non-Honey Badger Made MC. (Okay, so there is this joke in most 'Wuxia,' or other generated style novels with some flavor of such elements in them. How the MCs are pyscho honeybadgers that go around killing everyone that crosses them, even if it is just offending them to the point that lethality could of been avoided. So far, again from what I read, the MC doesn't fall in this criteria. Again it may change after 100 chapters, I haven't got that far.)

There are some downsides. Within the 100 chapters I read, I felt there was some plotarmor elements, some that didn't make sense and some it seemed author threw it in there.
I can look pass the cheat of the Diablo 2 cube that transmigrated with him. I can look pass the MC being a bodybuilder in his prior world. Tai Chi, I guess I can let it pass. But then MC also had knowledge of making metal springs and a few other worldly things beside that is starting to touch it. There were a few other peeves to.
-Taking awhile for wizarding part. I don't know where it begins, but if you looking for a start of a wizard tale or to jump into one, then this isn't for you. (Not to say MC is not doing stuff, but again I am not sure at what point it progresses there.)
-If you not into MC with cheats, probably not for you either. Or MC being label as Genius in everything he does. (Reading so many isekai/transmigrated I developed a bit of thick skin towards it. I mean, he actually is training/cultivating to be strong and isn't given godly 'trash system,' that spoonfeeds a lot of their MCs. But still there is some cheats there.)

If pick it up, I advise finding the version being translated by Exodus Tales. Other variants may just be the google translated variation. (And trust me, you don't want to read googled Mandarin made Eng in novels.)

murder of roger ackroyd by the queen of mystery herself, agatha christie! i'm about half-way through and i'm trying to take it slow.

i adore murder mystery, so any recommendations i would love!

"My big sister lives in a fantasy world" or "Neechan wa chuunibyou" intersting light novel series. I took a break around volume 4 just getting around to pick it up again. got some other books laying around waiting for me to find the time/motivation to read them as well.

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. It starts out a little too cliche, but it becomes quite clever and emotional toward the end. Honestly, didn't think much of it at first, but past a certain twist, it's kind of brilliant.

Tyranny of Steel, web novel.
Another isekai genre but different.
There is no system or cheats for MC to use to get stronger. Actually MC goes through growth and has a few bad things happen to him along the way.
The only 'cheat' MC has is his knowledge which he pushes on the medieval world or alternative Earth timeline, he is in, into an industrial revolution.

To keep it blunt, it is mostly a political novel about a guy who entered the sickly body of a young noble and his rise of power. By the title, yes there is Tyranny in it. He isn't afraid to perform evils or get his hands dirty for the betterment of himself and his people he governs over. I could give example of such, but it is spoiler heavy so will leave it at that.

I don't know if he does 'bad' things to his people(unless they outright deserve it/disobey military laws he impose or something criminal like that in his realm) as so far in the novel he treats his people fairly and respectfully(can't say for enemies) though I am only good 200 or so chapters in. He does come down with ironfist on his enemies though or anyone that threatens him/his country. There are some mature themes in it too, but not outright smut/porn from what I read. I don't really remember any real R-18+ scenes as it mostly does jump before and after the deed.

Though I haven't read in a while, I've been in the middle of the FNAF series, not the main novels, but the Fazbear Frights books. Also wanting to read Lord of the Flies.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Sort of, I put it down a couple weeks ago and haven't picked it back up. I read most of it on a trip, and I'm three quarters of the way through, I don't yet know if I'll finish it or jump into some other book.
I dunno, maybe I'm getting too old for the typical YA stuff? I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. xD

The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. It started out as just another mediocre mystery/thriller, which publishers seem to shit out these days, so I almost put it down again. However, I'm glad I stuck with it, because it's certainly better than most new mysteries.

I'm currently reading Vol. 8 of -Eighty Six- Light Novel Series. I've been reading the LN for awhile before the anime got announced, so I'm just catching up on the volumes that I haven't read yet.

Do audiobooks count? If so then I'm currently on The Butcher's Masquerade: Dungeon Crawler Carl book 5 by Matt Dinniman. Just caught up last night on the most recent issue of the comic Saga.

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan. I expected another disappointment like Gideon the Ninth, which I didn't even bother finishing. I got a unique fantasy setting with a story that's more than interesting enough, so the romance aspect becomes a piece of the whole picture. Rather than the main draw.
