Normally, the town of Kippo in the country of Camfeld is a peaceful town. A rural community with it's focus on growing crops, it contains modest establishments for everyone who comes in. Lately however, the roads have grown dangerous, and Lady Agnise Ritter, the Baroness of the town and area, has been looking for aid in finding out what is attacking travelers and traders, before the danger and damage gets out of hand.
Camfeld is under the rule of a feudal Empire, with no leader currently. The two contenders for the throne are the sons of the previous Emperor. Vandole is the eldest, and favored by most military and warriors alike, while Manmon, the youngest, is favored by nobility and mages.

Bastian awoke to a small roll of thunder as the soft rain began. He loved the smell of rain in the countryside. Back home in the city, rain brought the smearing of dirt and mud across the streets and the rising of the sewers, but here in Kippo, it brought out the life of the soil and the crops. The town was a welcome old friend to be visiting again.

Rumors spoke of dangers in the roads around Kippo, and newer rumors spoke of a call for help from Lady Agnise. Bastian made his way to the Ritter house to learn more about the recent attacks and offer his support.

The rains pours as Bastion enters the Ritter Manor. A servant stands by to accept his cloak, so that it doesn't wet everything. Meanwhile, a man stands in front the main staircase. He's massive, standing 6'6", with plenty of muscle to go with it. He's wearing no armor, but a massive double-edged sword hangs from his back. Unlike most swords though, it's a dark purple. A close look reveals it's made of crystal, instead of metal. The man wears dark clothes, which fits his expression.

"Thank you, sir," Bastian nodded to the servant, slipping him a copper piece. Facing the servant, but making eye contact with the tall man, he said, "I'm here to offer my support to Lady Agnise. Seems there's been a spot of trouble in town?" He turned to face the tall man, offering his hand, "That's a fine sword! Bastian Laroche."

"Thank you." The servant replies, before heading to a nearby room for the wet clothes. The man by the staircase just grunts. Then he replies, "Irvine. And you're not the only one. Me and a friend decided to help as well." Irvine talks a look at him. "And what are you supposed to be?" A hint of challenge in his deep voice. He comes across as an ill-tempered bear. Someone who'll make being on the wrong side of his temper _painful_.

Bastian smiled, "No one for you to worry about, friend," withdrawing his hand, "a simple traveler looking to help out, and to make a bit of coin." He eyed the stairs curiously, "Is the Lady here?"

"Yes." Irvine replies, even as a door from above opened. Foot steps can be heard, and then two women descend the stairs. One is dressed as a noblewoman, in a fine silk dress with gems embroidered in certain spots. She has hip length blonde hair that cascades down, with brown eyes and an English descent look.

The other woman sticks out. She has Emerald hair, and her eyes are Sky Blue. No pupil, no iris, no whites, just orbs of blue. She wears a white tunic and sky blue boots, and a staff is in her hand. "Ah. Hello. I'm Baroness Agnise Ritter. And you are?" The blonde woman in the silk dress asks.

Bastian bowed his head, "Bastian Laroche, Baroness. I am at your service."
He looked up, keeping an eye on Irvine.
"It came to my attention that Your Ladyship was seeking help with some trouble on the local roads. I would like to present myself for the task. And who, may I ask, is this?" he gestured toward the brunette woman, smiling broadly. What eyes! he thought.

"This is Tsuki Musume. She and her friend here," gesturing toward Irvine, "Have also offered to help with the problem. I'm not sure what it is, but _something_ has been attacking travelers and traders recently, and if it doesn't stop, then it could making living here much harder. We're mainly an agricultural town, selling and trading foods for goods. Without that trade, it would be much harder on my people."

Bastian nodded. "Well, I doubt Miss Musume or her friend," he grinned at Irvine and his greatsword, "would have much trouble with this investigation. If they don't object, however, I will certainly accompany them. Lady Ritter, do you have any idea where my companions and I might begin our search? Is there a particular part of the surrounding countryside the attacks seem to be common to? Or are there any recent victims in town that we might be able to question?" He looked from the Baroness, to Irvine, and back.

"Well, the attacks seem to come from the north, from what we've gathered. Brisbeir Road on either side of town seems to be the focus, but travelers have been caught in attacks as well. There might be survivors willing to talk. I'd suggest going to the Red Horse Tavern, they might be more willing after a few drinks, or trying to drown the memory of loss." Baroness Ritter suggests. "We'd love to have a helping hand!" Tsuki says cheerfully. Irvine just grunts. He seems to ignore his companion's air of cheerfulness, possibly from long acquitance.

"Lady Ritter, fear not. Your town is in capable hands, I daresay. We will report to you when the thing is done." Bastian smiled at the Baroness, and looked to his companions. "Well, Tsuki, shall we? Come on Irvine, we'll head to the Red Horse and see what we can dig up...see if a drink or two can wash that straight face of yours."
Bastian led his new companions to the tavern, and began seeking victims of the recent attacks.

Tsuki nods cheerfully. "Sounds good! But I don't think I've _ever_ seen Irvine with anything but 'I'm grumpy, so don't hug me' face. Except when fighting. Or when someone..." Here she drops her cheer a moment. "Brings up the bad subject, or makes fun of it. I try to stay away when he's like _that_." She then bounces back with her cheerful air. "But I doubt that'll come up! So let's go to the tavern!" Tsuki says, exuding cheer. Irvine grunts, and follows along, as if Tsuki hadn't been talking about him. The way to the Red Horse Tavern is wet, and Tsuki explains that she's Druid while Irvine is a warrior 'with fancy abilities'. "And what about you? I started wandering after my teacher said she'd taught all she could, and Irvine... well, that relates to the bad subject." Tsuki asks.

Bastian could tell he was going to like these folks. "I'm sure he'll cheer up one day." He smiled a broad smile at Tsuki, "All your teacher could teach you at your age, eh? Impressive! Well, I don't have any "fancy abilities" like yourself or our friend here, but I can usually handle myself in a fight - though I prefer avoiding them. I've been wandering the roads between Tapagrian and here since I was 17. That's where I was raised - but I like to think of Camfeld as my true home."

He turned around to face Irvine as he walked, "What about you, Irvine?" he spat through the thickening rain, trying to pick up the pace while walking backwards. "What brings you to Kippo and to Tsuki here?"

Irvine stares a moment. "I was looking for... someone... when I ran into Tsuki running from some guy," Tsuki pipes up with "Geshtar!", "When she ran into me. Cue Pisstar, or whatever, and he tried to get me to hand her over. Naturally, I said no. He said some things, I got pissed, and then he ran when he couldn't back his words." Irvine's emphasis on someone is in a chilling tone, as if he was a dead person saying it. "As for Kippo, I was traveling to Mandala, and Tsuki decided to stick around after the Pisstar incident. Said I needed cheering up."

"You? Cheering up? Never, Sunshine!" Bastian jeered. "Just kidding, friend. Anyways, I'm glad we all ran into each other - you seem like fine companions. Now, let's find out more about these attacks, eh?" Bastian took a seat and the bar and began ordering drinks for the three of them, keeping the wine pouring and the bartender talking, keeping an ear out for rumors from the road.

An over 30 farmer is deep into his whiskey, and is willing to talk. "I'm not sure what it was. But some silvery _thing_ leapt outta the trees. It grabbed the caravan guard and causally ripped him in two, like he was parchment. It then killed everyone that fought back, which was just ol' Ot. He wasn't much, but no man deserves getting ripped open and his intestines pulled out like they were _toys_." The man took a long swig, as if to wash away a bad taste.

Bastian turned wide-eyed to his companions, "OK then!" There was a long pause as he took a long glug of ale. "At least he didn't say goblins, right guys?" he elbowed Irvine playfully. "Well, I suppose that confirms it. What say we make our way to Brisbeir Road and see what kind of trouble we can get into?"

Bastian called for their tab and prepared to make his way outside town.

Tsuki giggles at Bastion little joke, while Irvine just grunts in annoyance. When they reach the border of town, a black wolf walks up to Tsuki. "Hey boy, how you doing?" Tsuki asks. The wolf gives her an annoyed look, as if to say, 'what do you think?'. Tsuki turns to Bastion, and introduces the wolf. "This is Blackfang, my bestest friend!" Blackfang's fur is black, and currently completely soaked.

Bastian knelt down to eye level with Blackfang and offered his hand to the black wolf. "Hey there boy! Nice to meet you. Enjoying the rain I see?"
He turned, chuckling to Tsuki and Irvine, "Was this guy just waiting outside for you two? That's one well behaved wolf."

Tsuki nods. "He's my animal companion and friend!" Tsuki says. Irvine just rolls his eyes. "He's yours, now let's move. I'd like to see if we can at least get out of the rain." Irvine says. Tsuki sighs. "If only it wasn't raining, then Blackfang could track it! Oh well."

Several (3) hours later...

Bastian and his companions made their way down the road, keeping an eye out for silvery things in the trees. In the distance, he spotted what appeared to be a small caravan heading towards them. Turning to his companions, he said, "Alright friends, we need a plan. I haven't spotted anything for all of our time toiling about. Whatsay we talk to that caravan and offer to escort them to town?"

Tsuki nods. "Sounds good to me! It seems to attack caravans, so protecting one should get it's attention." Irvine says, "As long as we get out of the rain, I don't care. Besides," here a dark gleam enters his eyes, "Let it try to tear me apart. It'll find me a little tough to chew."

As they approached the caravan, Bastian called out, "Aye there! We've been sent by the Baroness Agnise Ritter to guard the roads into Kippo, there's been danger about. Is there room for us to join you in there? We'll guard you nonetheless, but this rain has been pelting us all day, my friends and I would surely appreciate it."
