Selene started to stir, her vision blurred. She was very confused, and didn't feel quite right. She was thirsty, and feeling very weak. It took her a few moments to realize she was laying on something cold and hard. As she became more aware, she noticed large, metal bars surrounding her. She sat up and heard the clanking of chains. She had shackles attached to her wrists and ankles, preventing her from even standing. Normally she could break free, but it had been a few days since her last feeding, and she was too weak to bend or break the metal. She heard something shuffling around in the darkened room. "Hello?" She called out. Her voice echoed off the walls.
A large man move towards her cell, keeping his distance. He gave her a beastly smile and a soft chuckle. "So, the murderer is awake I see." His voice was gravely and deep, a rather menacing sound for a human to produce. At least, he smelled human. She wasn't sure. She looked at him in confusion. "Who are you? What am I doing here?" The last thing she remembered was watching a few men by a campfire, curious as to who they were. "My name is not important, and you won't be here for long, no worries." For some reason, his words struck fear into her heart. He didn't have to say it, but she knew she wouldn't be making it out alive. That sent her into a fit of rage, and she fought against the chains. The man walked out before she had a chance to say another word. She sat there in silence, unsure of what to do. For once, she felt helpless. She thought about her protector back home, and how he had been right all this time. She understood now why she needed him. She thought about the chances of not seeing him again, and she began to cry.
