Outside the window of the classroom was overcast, it usually was this time of year, luckily it made life a lot easier on him when it was. A boy yawned sleepily as he stared at the white board. His name was Aiden, he had a fairly slim build, lean frame and figure, but not a slob, his hair was dark, nearly black and he had amber colored eyes, a very distinct feature but it came with his role. He was always sleepy around this time, after all, "she" was able to be out and about more during the day, so he had to run around and keep an eye on her. He gave a sidelong look to his right, and sitting in the desk beside him was a beautiful girl. Most guys would have killed to sit next to her, most had tried to but of course it would be he. After all he was always supposed to be beside her....until he died that was, which seemed it would be for a much longer time then normal.

"So....who is she?" he asked his father many years ago. He had just turned thirteen and he had been told he was going to have a new "friend" he had to take care of. It seemed his family always got a new friend around this age, and now it was his turn. However when he met her, he knew there was something different. She looked young, but she was older then him, much more so. He didn't know it at the time but he realized it with time, especially when she was unable to come out and play during the day. At first he had been told because she was always sick, or the sun was harmful to her. It wasn't until a few years later after their first meeting he realized what she was. A being of night, a drinker of blood, all those snappy titles. His friend was a vampire, and he was her protector.

At first he had been rather, against this, knowing what vampires did in the movies and such. However he learned she could not turn him even if she wanted. His family was special, immune the the disease a vampires bite gave and turned a person. It seemed his ancestors, and hers had made an agreement. For protection and secrecy her kind would not feed on normal humans, and so his forefathers watched over her family in exhange for well...saving the world and a few neat perks. Now he say in class, tired and wishing to be in bed still.

The classroom was full of students taking notes while the teacher gave a rather boring lecture on a subject that Selene found rather uninteresting. Normal human activities, such as going to school, was boring and seemed pointless. Her coven insisted that she educate herself, helping her blend in with the normal human society. But Selene wasn't a normal human. In fact, she wasn't human at all. Selene was a vampire, a blessing and a curse all in its own. She absolutely loved her "special abilities," but at the same time, hated the fact she needed a babysitter to go out. Well, to her, "he" was a babysitter of sorts. Aiden, in fact, was her protector, and human.

"I don't need a protector!" she shouted at her father when she found out who, and what would be a more permanent companion in her life. "I am more than capable of taking care of myself!" The idea had disgusted her. A human taking care of a vampire. It seemed foolish. To her, humans were nothing more than a food source. Yes, she had been told of the agreement years ago. That didn't mean she had to agree with it. Nonetheless, she had no choice. She was stuck with him. She didn't want this. She wanted to be free to run as she pleased, hunt where she wanted. It was no longer up to her. She had attempted to run away a few times, but always seemed to get caught. Somehow, it was always known what she was up to and it pissed her off. It took a few years before warming up to her new "friend."

She stared out the window, and her reflection seemed to be staring back at her. Selene was gorgeous, no doubt, and attracted quite a bit of attention from other humans. Even now, guys, and some girls, in the class would sneak an occasional look her direction. Her hair hung down around her face, framing her small face perfectly. It's rich, wine color accented her ocean blue eyes perfectly. Her body was slender and well toned, a perk for being designed to kill, she guessed. Even now, she caught her human looking in her direction, and gave him a soft smile before returning her focus to the outside.

Aidens eyes darted back away from her. As they aged, he found himself, staring at her more often. She was very beautiful, inhumanly so, and he knew why. Even though he had known her for many years now he could not shake off her charming allure. He busied himself with, well listening to the teacher, but found himself yawning once more. It was then he realized it had been a rather big one at that and the professor shot him an evil look. He tried to give an apologetic one back, but he could only manage a sort of half glare. "Why can't this be over," he said to himself, he hated class as much as she did.

It was a bit but finally it ended, the school day was over and done with. He stood up, putting his bag over his shoulder and he would leave before her. He always wondered if she really needed a protector, of course during the day she could hardly do anything without the cover of an umbrella, and even then what she could do was limited. He half expected like, holy crusaders to come barging into his home demanding to be told where her coven resided. He of course could hold his own against a sword wielding maniac, he could probably even take on a gunman if need be, of course just as he was to protect her secret, he was also to protect his own and had to act the part of a normal human.

"Should we get you home?' he asked her, though he knew the answer would be no, she would want to go somewhere, do something. He did not mind, one perk was he got to be seen hanging out with the beautiful girl. However it had draw backs, like other boys wanting to muscle in. He had to fake a beating at times, but usually a well placed kick to the groin or stomach told them off.

Selene heard him yawn and directed her gaze back at him. "How irritating that must be, to always be tired." she thought to herself. As a vampire, she didn't get tired like humans did. To her, getting tired so easily would be a large inconvenience. She liked to spend her time living, not sleeping in some bed. She was rather thankful for the short periods of time she needed to rest. As long as she kept herself well-fed, she didn't need to sleep as often.

It was quite a relief for class to come to a close. She couldn't stand sitting in this chair, listening to some pointless lecture for much longer. Especially on a day like today. It was overcast, and perfect for her to spend time outside without as much protection from the sun. It still didn't compare to night time, but she had to give her human companion his time to rest. It limited her spent out of the confines of her home. She watched the other students leave the room before getting up herself. She hated to give the annoying guys in the school a chance to speak with her.

Aiden caught her attention with the word "home." Of course she didn't want to go home. That was the last place she wanted to be. Well, other than this prison they call school. She looked at him for a moment with an unamused expression. "You ask me that question every day. And what is it that I respond with?" Her voice was so smooth, about as beautiful as she was.

He smirked very lightly upon her answer, it was almost like clockwork. "No I think we shall go to the mall...or explore a bit," he replied, though he had a tone that was obviously mocking her a little bit. Of course her voice carried a melody he could not compare, but she spoke much differently then most. She held a more traditional and proper manner in her voice. Fitting for a Queen of the night, though a bit odd for anyone else now a days.

"Well...where should we go?' he asked her, of course he was not at all against it. It was difficult though, after all, he needed rest. His body though stronger, and sturdier then most of his kind, was still human, and thus would tire quickly. Of course he did not have limits when he could be out. Nor did he need to feed on blood, but of course he still lacked the same perks of her kin.

"There is a new store opening up in the mall...and three new films are going to be added today," he said suggesting things. He was rather good at finding things to do. Perhaps because he knew she liked things like this, or simply because if options where given it would mean he could formulate a plan to ensure she was safe and also that things went smoothly.

Aiden's voice was a lot rougher than hers, as all humans were. The difference was rather disturbing to her sensitive ears at first, but it was something she quickly grew accustomed to. She listened to his normal suggestions and just rolled her eyes before turning her attention back out the window. The mall and the movies were good for bright and sunny days, but not today. It was overcast, and perfect for her to go out and enjoy the fresh air.

She threw her backpack over her shoulder and turned toward the door. "Well, why don't you go enjoy the mall or a movie. Those seem to be your favorite places anyways. I'm going to go enjoy the weather while I can!" Her answer was rather cold, and sharp. She didn't see any point in having her protector with her today, although it was apparent he took his job seriously. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't escape him.

Aidens attitude changed at the suggestion. "I...I can't do that Selene," he replied in earnest. "You know that, it would be unwise to, besides it's dayliht even if it is overcast, what if you need to...feed?" he asked her. It was true she need not feed so often, but it had been two days since last. About now she should be getting thirsty, and he would not risk her going after a normal human.

"I'll come...the park is nice today...i think the flower beds are still in bloom right before winter closes them for a few months," he said. He knew she'd want to be outside, but the movies where a nice dark place for her to drink if need be, and the mall had plenty of hiding places as well. He knew the blind spots of the security cameras now as well. He made it a point to know things like this, in case she got hungry or accidentaly let her secret out, or if he had to display his inhuman side too.

Selene had started walking towards the door, but stopped dead in her tracks. Spinning around to look him in the eyes, she went to speak, but shut her mouth. Aiden was right. She hadn't quenched her thirst in a couple of days, and it was getting rather unbearable. Arguing with him would get her now where. She bowed her head in defeat, and sighed. "Fine, we shall go visit the park. But you don't need to constantly watch me like a hawk. I may be a monster to you, but I do have some self control, you know." She knew his trust in her wasn't nearly what it used to be. She had slipped up a few times long ago, and almost did the unthinkable. Luckily, Aiden was there to stop her.

She spun around and stormed out the door in search of her locker. There was no point in taking her books home. She wasn't going to do any homework there anyways.

Aiden couldn't really understand how she felt. If he was hungry he just ate, but he knew uf she was hungry, it was different. She would be unstable, almost primal if too long, but he was certain that wouldn't happen again, he wouldn't let it. "I know....I just like to," he said, his voice had trailed off towards the end. 'I don't think your a monster either," he said trying not to sound sappy, though it did. In truth he had great sympathy for her, but also great admiration. It was no surprise he was attracted to her, he did well to not let it known though.

He left his books, homework was not difficult for him, besides he was passing the classes, one slip up wouldn't ruin anything. He followed her, not to far, but not directly to her side either, it was rare he ever did, prefering to keep eyes behind her, in case he stared to intently.

Selene got in her locker rather quickly, and threw her stuff inside with a large thud. "Pointless" she muttered to herself. Even though Aiden was not next to her, she could feel his eyes focused intently on her moves. It annoyed her to no end. "It could be worse" she thought to herself. "At least he's not that bad to look at." There were times that she felt almost human, and really enjoyed his company. Today wasn't one of those days. She was thirsty, and it made her rather frustrated.

His last comment rang in her head "I don't think your a monster either." How could he not see her as a monster? It was her fault he didn't have much of a life. He was forced to spend his days with her. He was her food source. He was such a sweet guy, and deserved better than this. She felt rather sorry for him really. At the same time, she couldn't help but feel irritated by the whole situation again. She imagined an arranged marriage would be similar to this. Her parents chose this guy as her protector. She didn't have a say. And now, she was stuck with him. Her thoughts came full circle and once again, thought "It could be worse."

He waited patiently for her to finish putting away her books and bags. He was thankful, he wouldn't have to carry them around. He wondered at times if she made him to that just to taunt him or something. Whatever the reason he didn't know. He just allowed himself to enjoy her beauty. Angry or not she had an alluring air about her. It was nice, and he felt being within her presense also made him just nice over all. His mind went to the first time she fed from him, not the usual means where he donated blood or would cut his hand for her to drink from. No one time she had insisted not to drink his "filthy blood" and had gone over a week without feeding. It was the first time she ever bit him.

He remembered the shock, the feeling. It had really hurt to be bitten, just on his shoulder, luckily not the neck, had she done that he very well could have died. No she drank deeply from him that time, it hurt, but the pain had dulled as she drank. He wondered if vampires actually made the sensation pleasant for their victims. After a few moments it simply felt fine and he let her drink, not gasping or moaning in pain but silently panting until she finished. He had then fainted shortly after, even if he was immune loosing so much blood was taxing.

After that he was more insistent she feed from him regularily, not every day, but when she was hungry she needed to, even if just a snack. He was able to sustain more lose of blood then other humans so it was fine now. He seemed perfect to be her "feeding" vessel it seemed. "So....care to take the other way?' he asked her now coming back to reality. "It will avoud unnecessary interactions, and well..it's nice and quiet," he said," he felt she might like some privacy. Also if he took her away from other humans, she may not grow so hungry, he knew she tried her best not to eat often, he always jokingly thought it was because she didn't want to grow fat, but he felt that was impossible anyways.

Slamming the locker door, she glanced around the hall. The buzz of students was slowly fading, but there were still enough around that going the other way seemed like a good idea. "Sure, lets go the easy way." It drove her mad that she had to take all these necessary precautions. She was hungry though. At times, she thought about sneaking a quick bite from some random stranger. She wondered if other humans tasted different than her hand picked delicacy. When she was in a good mood, she often joked around about that.

She looked over at Aiden, who was watching her, as always. Occasionally, she felt that he wasn't just watching, but admiring. "That's silly" she thought, "he's probably thinking I'm a pain in the ass." That made her smile a little. She did get quite an enjoyment out of tormenting the poor guy. She smiled a little "Lead the way, oh great protector!"

"Very well princess," he replied back, he knew she hated that, being called things like princess and other human like cutesy names. Or perhaps she liked it and just did not wish to admit it, he didn't know, but before she could retaliate he began to walk hoping she would follow. He had a strange feeling when she was not, perhaps his instincts told him when she was too far away. He had to sneak a look behind him, he looked at the windows in the hall, able to see she was behind him. He always thought vampires had no reflection, the movies made it seem like that, oh how he wished to call all those directors rude names for the idiocy.

He opened a side door for her to walk through, normally she would need an umbrella but the clouds where nice and dense. Once se was through he closed it gently behind them and continued. They where in the fields of the school, only track teams and such would be out at this time, but practice was canceled due to some faulty sprinklers. He smirked having had a hand in the tampering of the pipes.

Selene snarled at him. She hated being referred to as "princess." It wasn't like he meant it as a term of endearment. He wouldn't, he couldn't think of her that way. It was forbidden. She often wondered what it would be like to have a man hold her, like her father and mother. She was afraid her curse would prevent her from having any sort of love at all.

She quickly focused on following Aiden. As he opened the door for her, she couldn't help but crack her favorite joke. "Thank you, human pet of mine." She knew how it set him off, and she loved it! It was one of the many ways she tormented him.

It was nice going outside without an umbrella. She stopped for a moment and sucked in a breath of fresh air, catching many various scents that drifted through the fields. She noticed it was rather empty today.

He did not react to her taunt, no he wouldn't give her the joy of it. Though it did sting a bit even if she meant in as a joke. At times she seemed to beleive it very much. He followed her out onto the field, the soft light making her pale skin seemingly brighter, even for a little bit. "I tampered with the sprinklers, so practice was canceled today," he told her, he didn't know she was thinking of how empty it was.

He walked with her off the campus, the streets where empty right now, still people in work, and the students who took this route where already long gone. Instead they walked the sidewalks, with little interaction save for a few shop owners outside ad the like. "Selene...you...ever feel....I dunno....lonely?' he asked her, it was very much out of the blue.

"I notice sometimes...when you see like...other humans...couples...you seem to like....look longinly," he told her. It was rarehe ever spoke like this, and even more so that it was about her in such a way.

Selene was busy admiring the scenery, relieved to be spending her time outside for once. It wasn't very often she was free to just walk down the street like this. As they walked passed the shops, a few shop owners noticed them and waved. She nodded in return and kept walking forward. She was thinking about how Aiden said he tampered with the sprinklers. He was rather clever, always finding ways to make it more convenient for her escape. It was a pain to her, but at the same time she found it cute to have a guy doing all these things for her. Is was as if she was special, even though in her own eyes she wasn't.

The word lonely snapped her out of her thoughts. She was in fact lonely, but was it that obvious? Normally she was so good at hiding things like that. But why did Aiden want to know? What did he care? She had mixed feelings about this. It angered her that it was so obvious, it irritated her that he watched her close enough to notice, and it saddened her because it was true. Her mood quickly went sour at the subject. "When you were instructed to babysit me, no one told you to watch me THAT closely!! What's next? You're going to tell me you can monitor my thoughts too?" She thought about storming off, but knew it would be pointless. He knew all of her hiding places, and would find her rather quickly. He was too damn smart, and knew her too well.

After a moment, her mood changed, and she became rather depressed. "Yea, I guess I'm a little lonely at times. It's not that guys don't want me." That was true. She was constantly throwing phone numbers away. "It's just that, I'm not allowed to have a boyfriend, if you want to call it. No one to hold my hand, no one to wrap their arms around me, no one to...." she paused for a moment. "Oh why am I teling YOU all of this! Why do you care?"

Aiden listened as she spoke, he was very good at that in fact. If anything he might be the only one who did, her words to him where not omnipotent as he could ignore her unless it was something necessary. He was not her butler or nurse maid, in fact he really could just ignore her and be professional and cold like a bodyguard, but he didn't like the imagery of that. He did see it though in her, her pining for companionship, and he funnily understood it too.

"I'm to protect you....look after your well being as well even if your against it...im supposed to be your shadow," he told her, it was what he had been told. "If there is a hinderance I remove it so you need not," he said sounding very solemn about it. "That doesn't mean I can not care about you either though," he told her, his voice softening.

'I think baby sitter is a step down from great protector anyways," he replied and continued to walk, silent for a while. He seemed not in the mood to reply anymore until he spoke. "I know what it's like after all," he said to her. "I'm your guardian I guess....I can't have friends or relationships...true...i get to live longer, im stronger, faster, quicker to think then the average person because of that old agreement our families made before we where even a thought in our parents minds," he went quiet again. "It sucks at times....but I don't hate or regret it either."

Selene began to walk a little slower, falling a few steps behind Aiden, eyes cast to the ground. She was rather puzzled. How could he not regret his life?? She just couldn't understand. It dawned on her that he really wasn't just doing his job, that he really did care. For the last few years, she's done nothing but loath the arrangement made long ago by their families. Perhaps the arrangement wasn't a curse afterall. He would always be there, so she'd never truly be alone.

It was then she looked at him with a new light. His words echoed in her mind, and she smiled. He really was more than her protector, Aiden was her friend. She was still curious as to why he didn't regret it. Curiousity always got the best of her. "Why?" she asked "Why don't you hate it? Why don't you regret it?"

Aiden walked slower as he thought. He truthfully liked her, not like a friend, but he had affections for her. He knew he very well could not say that though, she would probably tease him anyways. So he thought of a better way to say it. He took a few moments, but not too long in case it seemed he was stalling.

"I think...I'd not be as happy if I had a normal life," he said vaguely. He let that statement sort of float in the air while he walked. "There are a lot of what it's I guess, but I really like what's happened....even if not everything is easy," he said. Of course he was talking about her even if he just made his statements broad. "Besides....it's always a nice perk to be in the company of attrac....good company," he said catching his near confession.

Nothing could get passed her sensitive ears, especially a slip up like that. A huge grin grew across her lips. Her mood became a bit more play full now that she had a chance to torment him again. " what was that you almost said? Were you about to compliment me?"

"I think you misheard," he replied quickly. He would have dine more then that if it was allowed. "We are close to the park now," he said quickly with abandon, his voice a little louder then anticipated. He walked a bit faster, not enough so he was far ahead but enough so she would not notice. He always wondered if her kind could read minds, be it through thoughts or his blood. He tried not to think about anything when she fed in order to combat it.

(Sorry so short using phone to reply)

(No worries. I'm on my phone as well)

Selene laughed. She couldn't read minds, but the look on his face was enough to give it away. She followed behind him for a few moments, giving him some space. She couldn't help the sly smile she wore right now. As they rounded the corner to the park, she sprinted ahead of him, moving in a blur to her favorite spot.

He was glad she ran off ahead, he however took some time catching up. He had no intention of letting her see he was openly embaressed or anything. When he finally caught up to her he decided to sit down and simply observe everything. He was rather confused about it all. It was strange being with someone and not being well....with them in a sense. It was clear many thought they where together, he heard rumors and such in school. It was so strange that they couldn't be. He didn't question it though, just residing in his own thoughts from time to time.

Aiden seemed rather distracted. Selene couldn't help but wonder what could be occupying his mind so much today. Kicking off her boots and taking off her socks, she wiggled her toes in the grass. The grass was very green, and rather soft due to the river she stood close to. It wasn't a large river. In fact, it was rather small and shallow, and very steady. Normally her focus would be on her surroundings, enjoying the time she had to explore the outdoors. Today, she could see that Aiden really had something on his mind. Walking over and sittng beside him, she hestitated for a moment, wondering if she should say anything. She thought about cracking her usual jokes, but he didn't seem to be in the mood for her sense of humor.

"You know..." she said softly, "I really do appreciate all that you do for me. I'm not the best at showing it, and I'm sorry." Her words rang with sincerity. "Your job may be to care for my well being, but that doesn't mean I can't return the favor and care for you." She kept thinking about how he couldn't have friendships or relationships. It brought a deep saddness to her heart because she knew how it felt. It wasn't the best situation to be in. In an attempt to lighten the mood, she chimed in "I'm sure my mighty protector needs a shoulder to cry on, or even a hug every now and then."

Aiden didn't move away as she say down, it was a bit curious she was not going off and exploring or taking in the sites. He however didn't say anything and let her sit listening to her when she spoke. He knew she was as lonely as he, he wondered how much longer he had to carry the burden though. True she was older, not by alot, but her youthful appearence was in exact opposite of her age most likely, he nevr asked how old she was, he knew women hated that from experience.

"At times.....yeah I might," he admited. His father was not the best to ask for advice. And if he ever asked about girls his dad would probably get skepticle and think he was not up to the task of being her guardian. He did not want that, even if he could not have friends and stuff, he did notwant to leave her side either. "You ever wonder what it's like?" he asked her. "I don't think it;s like the movies...all....gushy and crap," he explained. "I think.....it's probably really hard being in a relationship....but if people have them...guess it's worth it right?"
