Epilogue
The events of August 1998 changed the world once more. The hidden Guided Evolution and Controlled Experimentation group (GECE) was found, and the American leadership brought to justice. Further, the facilities with clones of Aya and Eve were destroyed, and the surviving clones were hidden from official government eyes, in hopes of allowing them normal lives. The MIST division had to be revamped after it was found that several high placed agents were working for GECE. Much to his disagreement and complaints, Agent Xavier Harper ended up in charge of the MIST division. This did give him more time to with Monica, who was eventually found to be a natural nullifier of Neo-Mitochondria. However, there are still GECE facilities producing Neo-Mitochondrian species, and the hunt for them continues.
Xavier Harper eventually admitted to liking Aya Brea. Though they never 'officially' dated, they did marry in September 2000. They would end up with two children. Though he would never regret it, the wound he picked up at the end of the 'Dryfield Incident' against the modified 'Ultimate Being' still throbs when around other Neo-Mitochondria, his own and Aya's the only exceptions.
Allen Harrison eventually settled down with Luna, after both recovered. After long discussions with Xavier, Allison, and Luna, he eventually settled down and was less self-destructive. Allen and Luna had four kids, all able to controllably transform after puberty.
Allison and Volke danced around a relationship. The ghost of her past love still lingered, but time had healed that emotional wound partially. Whether they ever ended up together is not known in any documents. Not that Volke would have allowed that anyway. It is fact that Allison eventually adopted one of the Aya clones. Allison continues to work under Xavier's leadership, and still enjoys using explosive power against NMCs.
Volke's activities continue to be shrouded in shadows. More urban legend than fact, he continues his personal agenda. His TV show continues, and the last remnants of his former assassin guild 'Swallowtails' have been hunted down. What he's up to now is unknown.
Nero Fulmine eventually found all of the secrets of his special gauntlet, and enabled the capture of his kidnappers. He continues to enjoy working with MIST as a technical adviser, and has recently struck up a friendship with Kunihiko Maeda. Several standard NMC hunting gear sets have been designed by this pair.
Although this world continues to spin, and there are still stories to tell, this one comes to a close here.
