RE: Hydrophobic Romance (east & Aise)
Aesha couldn’t bring herself to believe Ren completely even when he began explaining himself. Part of her loathed her own insecurity, but she’d experienced too much betrayal in her past to believe Ren so easily. The last time she’d trusted a male who said he wanted to be her friend, she’d nearly been raped, not by the guy, but by several of his friends. Had it not been for the intervention of one of her current friends, there was no telling what would have become of her. At the very least, she knew she wouldn’t be here conversing with Ren.
But even Aesha had to give in a bit as Ren started pouring his heart out. The part about not having any friends reminded herself of her own past, and while Aesha had never wanted to look for common ground with men, her experiences with the opposite sex was quite similar. The guys that had approached her never really took an interest in her as an individual, there was the occasional one that wanted her body, but besides that, she’d been certain they were all jerks. Relationships had been a touchy subject for Aesha ever since she found out that a few of her classmates had held a small competition over who could trick her into sleeping with them. She’d nearly fell for the kindness of one of them too, but chance had been on her side, and she’d accidentally listened in on them talking once. An event that crushed any thoughts or romantic relationships out of her.
She knew this was what Ren probably wanted to hear, but she couldn’t muster enough courage to speak about them to him. But even then, she figured she owed him a brief explanation. Though the words that came out of her mouth were harsh.
“You don’t have a crush on me, you just saw another Neko and thought I would sympathize…” she bit her lip, judging from what she’d heard Ren was just wanting a friend, quite possibly a girlfriend who’d understand his suffering and spend time with him. “You picked the right person… just a bit too late, I’ve given up on the people around me, I’ve already got a few friends at this school, and I’m…. happy with what I have” she mumbled a bit, not entirely sure if she was actually happy. She loved her friends, but there were times when she questioned whether the sentiment was mutual. “I’ve had enough of being lied to, everytime I think I have a chance it just ends up screwing up, so why bother?” she asked, clutching at the bedsheets and scrunching them up in her hand.
Forcing a smile, she looked into Ren’s eyes for a few seconds before closing her own eyes, and sighing. “You’re big, strong, and have good looks, there’d be nothing in it for you even if we did become friends. As you said, I’m judgmental and gave up on having anymore friends. I’d only drag you down, so it’s best you leave me alone. If you want, I’ll introduce you to one of my friends, she’s nice, pretty, and understanding, nothing like me. If you get a human girlfriend, you’ll probably be able to make more friends easier….”
