Wendy bit down on her lip, her cheeks still a bit red, and quietly sat down on the couch. A part of her felt badly that Kevin was going to open a bottle of wine for her when such an item was so difficult to come by in the prison. But another part was beyond elated. The fact that he'd make an exception for her, that he'd open it for her. It made her feel special and she liked that. Everything he did made her feel wanted.
When Kevin finally came back with the wine and glasses, she smiled shyly and softly said, "Thank you." Her hands straightening out her dress as she crossed her legs. "I'm here because I was naive," she said. "I trusted the wrong people when making my plans." She let out a tiny sigh and flicked her blonde hair over her shoulder. "I'm adopted," she said. "Not that it matters... but the reason for the adoption was because my parents--" and she all but spat the word 'parents'. "Needed me as a means to a financial end." She paused a moment, her eyes averting themselves toward the floor. "In order for my father to gain money, there was a stipulation that he and his wife have a child, but she was unable to conceive. So I was the answer. They needed to keep me around until I was 25 and after that, control of money would be turned over to him." Again she sighed. "It had to do with my father proving he could commit and care and a whole bunch of things that aren't true given my own thoughts on the monster." Her eyes welled with tears and she wiped at them. "I learned that I was to be killed once control was given to my father." She looked up at Kevin. "They were going to kill me off... like... like some animal." A tear rolled down her cheek. "I couldn't sit by for the next six years and let them think I knew nothing, so I acted... but... I failed."
