Able to love and be loved in return

Grant sighed as she yawned and said: "Okay, sweet dreams." He layed in his bed and tried to sleep for himself. I'm going to escape. I am going to leave her on her own because then she can be free again without any burdens from me. I only want the best for her. That were the things that were going on in his mind. He looked at Katrina and noticed that she was sleeping. He hoped that she was going to wake when the sun was down so that he could leave as fast as possible.

Katrina was out like a light, sleeping or at least catching up on the sleep she had missed. Once the sun was down she woke up, a mental clock within her head apart of her. She still felt tired, and her back hurt from sleeping in the chair. "Morning...I'm gonna go...so my 'family' doesn't worry...I'll give what you said a thought." She stated as she stood up. She smiled slightly, "feel better." With that she left. Once she was home she had a lot to think about.

When Katrina left, Grant stood up and started to pack. Five minutes later he had all his stuff in one bag and he had changed clothes. He was ready to leave. He opened his window and climbed out of it so that nobody would see him leave. When he was out, he started to run. He didn't knew where he was but he knew that he was quite far away from his place. Trying to find out where he was exactly, he started to sniff for his own scent in the forest.

Katrina went home and layed in her coffin thinking. "What should I do? He was forceful with me...he ddidn't listen...he abused and took advantage of me and made me cry. I haven't cried since I died.... He says he loves me...but most boys just want one thing...he's 18...he's taken many others besides me...He will grow old, and he will die...on top of that he's not human...he's a werewolf...our species shouldn't get along...but he seems to look past that...but I'm sure he wants offspring...I can't give him that...I'm dead...he's alive....oh what should I do?" Kat was so confused trying to understand all this.

While Katrina was thinking about the situation, Grant found out where he was and what direction he should go to, to make sure that he was going away from her. He shifted and held his bag close to him. He started to run really fast. After half an hour he was already 40 kilometres further. He looked back once, making one tear drop on the leaves. Then he started to run again, away from his life.

"Well, let's at least just give it a try...If it doesn't work, then thats that, there will be no other discusion about it." She finally made up her mindd she had nothing really to lose. So long as it was kept a secret. Katrina got up and ran back to te hospital with a smile on her face. She went ing and saw police officers, she ignored them and went to Grant's room she saw he was gone, going to the check in she asked what happened? They told her he ran off and the police were there to in vestigate. Katrina quickly ran out she ran into the forest and smelled the rotten blood from the men who havent been found yet. Then ran to his house knocking on the door. "Grant!! Grant!!?" She called but there was no anwser she went inside and looked every where, she didn't see him, her heart was now hurt, never knowing this pain before it was a different pain then when her family died..She was heart broken. She went outside his scent was everywhere she would never find him. Katrina then started to walk home.

Grant was smarter then he seemed. One of the police officers was a friend of Grant and putted a little note in her jacket.
Grant kept running. He was almost in another town that was on a distance of 100 kilometres. He didn't knew that Katrina was going to read that note already. His mind was empty now because of all the running and he stopped. He sat down on a rock and sighed a bit, he was going to rest for a while.

Katrina put her hands into her pocket and felt something that she hadn't put there. She stopped where she and took it out, it was a piece of paper. She opened it and began to read it.

The note said:

Dear Katrina,
I'm sorry that I just ran away but I don't want to hurt you again. So this is the best for you. I'm going to the middle of nowhere, so please don't come to look for me. You will find somebody else that can be yours. I never wanted to abuse you though, I just lost control.

I also want to thank you for the great times we had. And I want to say sorry for the bad times I gave you. Just remember that you will have a place in my heart forever.

Greetings Grant.

PS: Please don't come to look for me... This really is the best for you.

Also there were drawn two little hearts on the downside of the paper. One with fangs and another with a fur, between them there was a barrier. This was a symbol of difference, just as she told him. But on the other side there was another drawing of the two hearts but then close to each other without a barrier with the sentence: I prefer the drawing without the barrier...

Katrina read and reread the note. She fell to her knees on the cold forest floor. She would have been crying, if she could if her body felt too much pain or emotion. Katrina stayed there for a while, so was upset. "If you were going to do this...then why ask me to be your's?" She asked softly as she stared at the paper. She looked at the hearts, she smiled at the one with out the barrier, and sighed at the barrier, it was true...what was she thinking they were just too different. She stood and went the rest of the way home, crawling into her coffin shutting the lid not wanting to see anyone.

At the very same moment that Katrina stood back up to walk home, Grant also stood up and started to run again. He had food to survive a week and then he was forced to kill people. But then he was going to become a murderer and probably going to be signalled on the news. That was going to attract the attention of Katrina. So Grant's plan was going to run as long as he could and then just die in the cold. He prefered to be death then live without Katrina. He arrived in the other town and went to a motel, renting a room for one night. The price for his room was 10$/hour, so he was going to stay here only for a short period.

Katrina was going to try to move on and forget what had happened, though she would live forever, and she had a great memory so it would be hard to forget. "Katrina?" Her mother called, "Have you fed tonight?" She asked. "Yes mother.." She lied, she wasn't hungry.. she was too upset to eat.

In the motel, Grant was confused about what he had done by running away. He wasn't sure if Katrina would feel better or worse now. He was a bit hungry, but wanted to keep his food in his bag till he was almost starving so he went outside and closed the door.

Walking trough the city, he saw a drug dealer. The drug dealer walked towards a small path between two houses. Grant followed him and shifted while he walked in the path. He started to feed from the dealer. Half an hour later, somebody noticed what happened and the police arrived quite fast. Biggest topic on the news: "Drug Dealer Ripped In Pieces By Animal? Or Kannibal?" It was also in the newspapers.

Grant hoped that nobody was going to see him as a suspect in this case.

Katrina refused to come out of her room for days, well nights actually. Weeks passed by, she hadn't been feeling well, it was probably because she hadn't fed since Grant had left. Katrina placed her hand on her stomach, and she felt something, that wasn't there before. She got up and felt it again something strange was happening inside of her. She brushed it off then went out side she went into town and stood by an alley way waiting for her prey she saw someone, took them into the alley, and started to feed but she couldn't stop, having not have fed and ended up killing the man she slit his throat to make it look like a murderer. Her stomach started to her even more now. She fed from another, and then her stomach felt even worse she looked down and she had blood running down her leg she quickly went to the doctor to find out what happened. The doctor told her that she had been pregnant and had lost the child. Katrina started to cry her eyes out it was a miricle that she was able to reproduce, but she had lost Grants child not having sex with anyone else. She went home and crawled into bed not wanting to do anything contemplating going out into the sun, it was the fastest way to take her life.

The day that Katrina recieved the bad news, the newspaper was layed in front of her house. As main topic: "Kannibal or Animal?" with a description of 10 murders in the last week, every murder was on a further distance from her town. The last murder was on a 2 weeks driving. Nobody had a clue about who the murderer was and why he did those things.
The description of the murders were like a wolf that gone wild or a kannibal that was very hungry, that was the only thing that held the police from making a suspect.

Grant had trained a lot and had even more muscles now. His foodsupply was almost empty and his clothes were all covered by blood. He didn't knew how Katrina was doing, but he was missing her. Her photo was the only thing that he always carried with him. The only thing that was in his mind while he killed somebody was Katrina. He did this all for Katrina, to make her life back normal.

Katrina was laying in her coffin when her parents called her downstairs. She stood and went to them, they had hardly seen her and wanted to have some family time with her. Her father was reading the news paper, She looked up t see the cover story, "Father what's the story on the first page about?" She questioned. "Um..Somthing about a crazed werewolf is all hunny." He replyed, "May I see it?" She asked and he gave it to her. She started to read the artile, the only thing she thought was Grant, 'please don't let it be Grant...He he wouldn't do that.' "I'll be back I haven't fed yet." her parent's let her go sure that she would be home before day break. Katrina fed then went to Grant's house she had been keeping it clean while he was away in hopes he would return. After a while Katrina layed down in the she had been in before and went to bed, for the sun had come out.

Grant was watching television in a cheap motel now and was pretty bored. He was drawing pictures of Katrina while he sat there.
He wasn't hungry and if he was, he just could feed from the bodies that were in his motel room. He rented the Motel Room under a random name, they didn't asked for any ID here and also there was no camera-control.

Katrina was giving up hope that Grant would return to his home, he had moved so many times before, without looking back. Katrina had lived such a short life, and greif continued to add to it. The thought of suicide started to become more blisful to her than anything. She herself was a killer though she wasn't bad she tried not to but she took the lives of innocents, to feed. She didn't know how much she loved until it was gone.

A week later, Grant was gone for a month. He wanted to go home, really. He took all his stuff and started to walk back home. He hadn't talked to a lot of people, he killed more then he ever would imagine. He didn't ran home because he was getting really tired. He just walked towards home, hoping that he wasn't going to be arrested. He wondered how Katrina was doing right now.

Katrina saw as the sun was rising she had found a clearing in the forest that would give her a blast of light, and would reduce her to a pile of ash, she walked toward it and stood at the edge of it still thinking about going through with it. She was contemptating it, she had more reason to do it then not to do it, she never asked for this life any way. Katrina started to cry, as the sun was fully up she lifted her foot and was about to walk into the sun, tears over flowing in her eyes.

It seemed that Grant knew that something was wrong. "Katrina," he said to himself, a bit scared. He shifted and started to run faster then normally. Just at the moment that Katrina was going to step into the sun, Grant jumped and he fell on her. He saved her. He layed on her to protect her from the sun that was shining trough the leaves.

She closed her eyes she she wouldn't see the sun as it burnt her. She screamed as she was tackled, not knowing who had tackled her. She continued to cry, then she started to struggle again not realizing who it was. she then felt her hand fit the sun and she recieved a burn, screaming a bit more.

When Grant heard her screaming, he layed his paw on her hand to cover it. "You are safe now," he said softly.

Katrina was hissing and snarling as Grant layed on her to protect her, untill she heard his voice. "Grant...?" She asked curiously?

"Yes Katrina, it is me," he said. "What were you thinking by trying to walk in the sun?" Grant couldn't go off Katrina because then she was going to be burned and changed into ashes. His voice seemed a bit worried and also a bit angry. "You know that you were going to die when yyou walked in the sun!" Grant's eyes weren't red at the moment but more blue/purple. When a werewolf his eyes change, it's a signal that he also changed as a person.
