"No..." He muttered, slowly tightening his arms around her. "I don't want anything hurting someone I hold dear to me..." He whispered, slowly brushing the stray tear away.
 
Alex felt her breath catch in her throat and her heart skip as she heard this. She couldn't believe he was calling her someone he held dear to him when he wanted to marry her because she'd be useful.
'I don't get it" She muttered as she buried her face into her arms which were still clutched around her knees.
Her shoulders shook as more tears began to fall and she began to really cry.
 
"I don't expect you to..." Aegus muttered, holding Alex closer to him, his eyes slowly closing. "All you need to know... is that no one will ever hurt you as long as I'm around..."
 
She shook her head and muttered "Thats not true."
She then pulled away and turned so her back was to him but she was still curled up trying to hide her tears.
 
Aegus sighed softly and shook his head. "... I will keep you safe, Alex... I cannot tell you why I need you so much, but I can tell you I truly do care for you... I want to be able to feel the human emotion of love for you... If you will help me down that road... But either way I need you..."
 
She shook her head and muttered "Aegus its YOU that is hurting me! You don't understand I can't.... I can't just be with you I .... I need to know WHY ME? How can I trust you if you won't trust me? I...human Love is based on trust loyalty and friendship. Can you honestly say that all three of them apply to how you feel for me? Or even two of them? Cause I sure can't see even one applying to this situation"
She shrugged him off and stood up walking into her ensuite and washing her face to rid herself of the tears.
 
Aegus closed his eyes, his hands slowly tightening to fists. He followed her, taking her hand and turning her to face him. "I need you because unless I can make you my bride, my kin will die... I want this to be a real relationship for your sake, but for a demon, such things as loyalty and trust are hard to comprehend... But please... I need you..."
 
Alexandria felt her face go pale as she heard the truth pass his lips. She had not thought he would be able to tell her so soon and then to hear it was something so serious she couldn't begin to understand.
Her knees felt weak and she instinctively placed her hands on his forearms to hold herself up as she nodded in understanding and tried to speak but her mouth was dry and she couldn't think straight.
Eventually she managed to mutter ''How?''
