The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and everything was as it should be in the otherwise chaotic feudal era. The strange bird like demons flew over head into the distance, the people farmed, the warriors fought-

*SLAP!*

Miroku was getting slapped for groping Sango, again.

"Heh, pervert still deserves it." The white haired half demon, Inuyasha, mumbled to himself as he walked ahead of the group alongside Kagome, his arms in his sleeves as he smirked. He heard Miroku attempt to make the situtation better. But it didn't. It never did, and it always ended with him getting slapped even harder.

It was a normal day for him anyway. And he wouldn't have it any other way.

"Never gets old."

Kagome sighed as she walked along side Inuyasha. Adjusting the slightly heavy yellow back-pack that was strapped on both her shoulders, she heard Sango starting to yell at Miroku. Poor monk always got slapped. But just like Inuyasha said, he did deserve it. Blaming his 'cursed hand' only got him so far and the slayer wasn't having it anymore.

Shippo also moved on her shoulder. He was getting a bit restless, hearing the small kitsune sigh, she looked down at her scruffy school uniform shoes while they walked on the dirt path between villages.

"Inuyasha?" She asked, "Do you think we can stop for a little while? I think we're getting a little tired." Moving her chocolate brown eyes up to his face, she held onto the straps of her back-pack. "At least just for lunch time?"

He groaned a little bit, his bright yellow eyes rolling a little at the humans need to rest and stop for lunch. It was the stuff like this why they were so far behind on their journey. Why they were missing so many of the Shikon Jewel Shards, and...well, they had no time to rest like this, to waste even more time.

However, it was those damn eyes that got him all the damn time. He kept his arms crossed and pretended he wasn't looking at her. Finally, an exasperated sigh left his mouth and his eyes closed.

"Fine." he grumbled. "We can stop for something to eat. But keep it quick, I don't want to waste anymore time we could be using looking for the jewel."

Kagome smiled and perked up a little. They had been talking since this morning and her feet were really hurting today. Maybe it was because Inuyasha was really on a Jewel Shard rampage. She didn't know. After a few minutes, her and Shippo found a comfortable looking grassy spot along the trail and stopped.

Setting her heavy bag down, Shippo got off her shoulder and started to look for small pieces of wood to start a fire. She was in a good mood, and she was great full that he had let her stop to make lunch and because of that, she'd make ramen for lunch. It was quick and easy and, of course, it was Inuyasha's favorite. Pulling out some packages of the instant noodles, she waited for Shippo with the wood so she could get her water out and then start lunch.

Inuyasha, being the mild loner that he was, decided not to take part in the setting up in the picnic type area and instead was laying down on the soft patch of grass, his arms behind his head as he lounged there. There was something off about this place. The smells seemed to bombard him in the worst ways possible. The pollen from the plants made him wince and sneeze, the wind seemed to be a little bit more metallic, for some unknown reason...

But amongst the bitterness and the bad smells, there was something very, very...sweet, almost. He opened his eyes and looked around in confusion, wondering what the strange smell could be coming from. But nothing he could see that was out of the ordinary. Still his little group, who were sitting amongst each other, laughing.

He frowned and flopped back down. Miroku meanwhile took notice of his friends plight.

"Inuyasha, are you okay?" The monk asked. "Come! Join us, Kagome has brought those noodles you like with her. No need to be by yourself."

"I'm not hungry, monk." Inuyasha snapped. "Mind your own business."

Miroku frowned. "Hm."

Meanwhile, Sango was enjoying her noodles and her time of rest while Kirara took a small cat nap. Hearing Inuyasha raise his voice, she looked up and sighed, this got Kagome's attention. "What is it?" She asked after giving Shippo his cup of ramen. Kagome followed Sango's gaze to Inuyasha who was away from the group. This wasn't out of the ordinary, but the fact that he wasn't eating ramen was a little weird.

Getting up, she took his cup of ramen with her and headed over to the half-demon clad in red. Smiling slightly, she passed Miroku and sat beside Inuyasha with a small huff. "Here." She held the steaming cup of noodles out to him so he could take it. She had no idea why he was so unsettled and the fact that she was human kept her from smelling the smells around her. But her faint miko senses were a little wired right now. She had no idea why. Everything seemed to be peaceful. Even Kirara was sleeping. Normally if something was off, the neko demon would be unnerved and awake.

That sweet smell almost became overwhelming when she went and sat down beside him. It was enough to almost knock him out. His face scrunched up and he shook his head, like a dog who was just smacked on the nose for doing something wrong. His vision doubled a little. It didn't take a genius for him to realize that Kagome was the source of that smell. However, he didn't need her getting upset over something she likely had no control over it.

However, he was a little curious as to why the smell was so extreme out here...

He looked at her off to the top of his head, holding out the steaming cup for him to take. Finally, grumbling in defeat, he grabbed it and tilted it to his mouth, not bothering with such useless things as "utensils" that Kagome kept bringing with her. A little groan escaped his lips as the flavor overtook his mouth.

"Thanks." he finally said to her, looking out at the mass field in front of the two.

Watching him eat, she smiled and sat down beside him, her own cup in her hands. She didn't ask why he was away from the group. He usually liked having his space. But for the fact that he didn't run when he smelled ramen wasn't something she could ignore. Tucking her ebony locks behind her left ear, she bent both of her knees up slightly while she ate a noodle.

"Inuyasha," she began as a small breeze blew, the sound of the leaves moving in the air caught her ear and made her hair whip around a bit.

"What's the matter?" Maybe he was thinking about Kikyo? Sure, the thought pained her a little bit, but he had made his choice. And she understood that she was his first love. There was always going to be feelings there. No matter how hard she avoided it, Kikyo will always be a part of his life. And she'd always love him as a friend.

"You're usually right there when I make ramen..."

It was a strange little moment for him. His senses were going out of control, especially smell, and he barely had time to react to her asking him what was wrong. She was right, he was RIGHT there whenever ramen was in the picture. For some reason, today seemed off for him. Especially at this point.

"I don't know." he mumbled softly. "There's something different. Everything seems...." He trailed off again. The smell once more side swiped him, and he released an audible groan. Dammit, why was she doing this? HOW Was she doing this? He would have yelled at her to kindly get the fuck away from him, but...dammit, if she didn't look so much like Kikyo...but was that why?

"I don't know." he mumbled again.

She wanted to push the subject further but he seemed like he wanted to be alone. And since he wasn't arguing with her, she decided to let it go for now. Taking his cup and her now empty one, she got up and went back over to the group. Sango had already wiped out the pan she boiled water in and let the flames burn the paper cups.

Shippo was now playing with Kirara while Kagome got the things ready so they could continue the journey. Inuyasha was probably getting impatient. After she had her bag packed, she slipped it back on and Shippo chose Miroku as a ride for the rest of the night.

Turning her head while the rest of the group slowly continued onto the path, she looked at the white haired half dog demon laying in the grass. "Inuyasha? We're ready."

"Bout damn time." he grumbled a little bit and stood up, stretching and groaning, hearing his bones popping. What on earth was going on, seriously? Well, either way. The sooner they got out of here, the sooner he'd start feeling better.

Oh how he'd wish.

As they went back down the path, in silence save for Miroku talking about the more strategic way to take down Naraku, Sango and Kagome talking amongst themselves and Shippo being Shippo, in that he was not shutting up, a migraine began to grow in the Hanyou's head. He was wincing and groaning, staying far and ahead of the group.

What the hell is going on with me? My head is throbbing. My senses are going fucking overboard. God, I feel like I'm gonna kill something if I don't figure out what the hell is wrong with me. And why does Kagome smell like that? It's never been there before...maybe it's a demon? Maybe I'm getting sick, or maybe...

His eyes stared down at the ground as he thought intently.

Shippo frowned a little bit as he sat on Kagome's shoulder. "Inuyash's being quiet again...' He mumbled to the three of them.

"He may be coming down with a sickness of some sort.' Miroku questioned. "It's not uncommon, and he is showing some of the symptoms. Especially being short with us."

"Inuyasha is ALWAYS short with us." Shippo mumbled under his breath.

Kagome glanced up at Miroku, noticing something wrong with Inuyasha as well. "Shippo does have a point, Miroku." She stated as they continued behind Inuyasha. But then again maybe the monk was right, he might be getting sick. She knew nothing of demon illnesses. If she asked him, she feared he'd lie about not feeling well or make her mad enough to not help him.

Turning her head to Sango, she looked up at the slightly taller female slayer of the group. "What do you think, Sango?" The girl sighed softly and shook her head. "I'm not sure right now, Kagome. His symptoms haven't progressed enough for me to know yet. I'm not a youkai doctor, though." She scratched the top of Kirara's head. "So my word is useless until then." The young miko looked down at her feet and nodded.

Maybe tonight she'd check to see if there was something wrong. If it was something common like a cold, she could fix that. If it was more severe than that, then they'd have to find Totosai or someone else who could help.

Indeed, they made quite a good amount of distance than the previous day. So now they decided to make camp for right now as the sun set and the moon rose off into the distance. The fire crackled as Miroku and Shippo sat around the fire, opposite of Kagome and Sango. Much to no ones surprise, Inuyasha had his back to them, and now, he was rather twitchy! His ears twitched, his nose twitched, and his fingers were tapping on the ground, rapidly.

He did come to one conclusion though.

It had to be Kagome. It's that smell. Something about her is about to drive me up the damn wall. Something about her. But what? A thought crossed his mind, and he paled a little, wincing. Oh, god, I hope to the gods above it's not THAT.

"Inuyasha!" Shippo finally snapped and hopped over to the much larger half demon. "You need to stop trying to isolate yourself from us!" he pointed up at him. "We're your friends, and unless-" He was silenced as INuyasha picked him up by the scruff of his neck.

"Shippo." he said, his voice a low growl. "I'm in NO mood." And dropped him again. Shippo gulped and scampered back over to Kagome.

Miroku was still thinking of what could possibly be wrong with Inuyasha. "Hm." he said, looking at his friend and the sword in the sheath. "The Tetsusaiga isn't broken, and is still in his possession, so he shouldn't be turning into a full blooded demon...' his attention turned to the sky. "And it's not a new moon, so he shouldn't be turning human. Kirara isn't reacting so there likely aren't any demons around..." he frowned. "Kagome, did he say anything to you earlier today? Was he reacting oddly in any way?"

Kagome picked up Shippo in her arms and set him on her lap as she thought. "Well," she looked up slightly as she thought, the warmth of the fire touching her face and hands. "He did say that there was something different." She said softly, looking back at Miroku and shrugged both of her shoulders. "I thought that it was because we were in a field is its the beginning of Spring."

Sango nodded while Kirara slept in her lap. It was the beginning of Spring and to most demons with a super sense of smell, the pollen and flowers were almost unbearable, depending on the part of Japan that they were in. "But he's been restless. That can't be from it being Spring." Kagome let out sigh through her nose and stared at the fire.

Then what could it be...?

Shippo yawned in her arms and she set him down. It was getting late, she could feel it in her slightly aching bones. She set the kitsune child down so she could go to her back-pack and get her sleeping back.

"Shippo has the right idea." Miroku said with a yawn of his own. "Perhaps things will be normal again by the time we wake up tomorrow. For now, let's rest."

So they all decided to go to a nice deep sleep. Except Inuyasha. Though that wasn't surprising. Inuyasha turned back to the group, his attention turned to Kagome. The scent had gone down considerably. It wasn't as offensive as it was, but rather...subtle. Sweet. Almost...addicting. He stared at her, not moving, taking note of her features. She was s pretty. Like Kikyo, but...not Kikyo. Black hair, soft features, amazing eyes...

He stared at her for a few more moments, just admiring her. He caught himself doing so, shaking his head. He was afraid of this. He really was. The signs were not good. The enhanced senses, Kagome giving off that scent when no other woman did. He gulped. He just prayed, PRAYED, it didn't get out of hand as he thought it would.

He decided that sleep would be a good idea. Before he did however, he walked over and laid down beside Kagome. He looked at her one more time and closed his eyes. INhaling the smell one final time, he fell into a slumber.

Kagome turned over in her sleep and groaned slightly, the early rays of the sun hit her eyes and she frowned, turning her back to the sun. It didn't help that she was sleeping horizontally to the sun. Laying on her back, she blinked open her eyes and huffed. "Stupid sun.." she mumbled. After being up in the early morning as many times as she had, you would think she was a morning person...

She wasn't.

Making sure not to wake Shippo, she sat up and stretched her arms in the air and yawned before noticing something next to her. Moving her gaze down, she seen the red kimono of a sleeping Inuyasha next to her. That was weird. Normally he slept at the top of a tree. Smiling, she reached down to run her nimble fingers through his soft silver hair. She always wanted to touch it. She never really got the chance to. She had been lucky enough to touch his ears a time or two.

Pulling her hand back, afraid she'd wake up, she crawled out of the sleeping back and headed to her back to find something to make for breakfast. It was probably going to be a light one this morning. She was running out of supplies. It was almost time to go home and restock.

The gentle touches to his hair were enough to elicit a slight twitch from him, and a slight grumble. His eyes slowly opened, barely open a crack and groaned finally. Great, NOW he was awake. He sat up, rubbing his eyes with his knuckles and looked around, scowling. He hated the morning sometimes. It involved waking up.

Shippo, Miroku, and Sango were all still asleep. Kagome, however, was awake. His eyes locked onto her as she rifled through her bag. The smell remained the same as last night: Soft, subtle, sweet. He inhaled it deeply, groaning a little to himself.

take.

claim.

What in the hell...

"Morning." he finally said aloud.

She stood up and looked at him with a smile on her face. Her dark ebony hair was slightly disheveled from her night's sleep and she wore light blue cotton pajama bottoms and a matching button up top. "Good morning, Inuyasha." She grabbed some granola and cereal bars from her bag. Leaving them on top so they could choose which ones they wanted, she got herself a cereal bar and grabbed one for him too.

"Are you feeling better?" Kagome sat beside him and handed him the cereal bar. "I know its not much this morning, but we're running out of supplies in my bag." She took a small bite. "I'm going to have to go home soon." Looking up at him, she swallowed at the sight of his bright molten amber eyes that sometimes tended to make her weak in the knees. Looking away, she decided that the smoking wood from the fire last night was rather interesting.

"Not much better.' he said, staring down at the ground and leaning an arm on his lifted knee, grumbling and scowling. No need to tell her about his hunch. IN fact, her going back to her time was probably the best option right now. At least this way he couldn't hurt her. He took a distracted bite out of his cereal bar, not even tasting it as much as idly chewing it, anything to get him distracted from the matter at hand.

"Maybe you should take a few days off as well." he finally spoke up. "Been...been a while since you've seen your family. So if you wanted, you could take a few days, or...whatever, you know." he said. Another idle bite, chewing it slowly, quietly.

Kagome's face brightened instantly and she smiled brilliantly. "Really?" She was too exited to ask why he was being so cooperative. Normally he didn't want her going home. They normally fought and argued for a good hour and a half while she sat him all the way to the well. And even when she did go home, she could only stay for a few days before he came to get her. And it pretty much ended with him dragging her back through the well.

Forgetting about the cereal bar, she threw herself into his arms and hugged him. She had no idea about the situation at hand. "Thank you, Inuyasha!" She waited a moment or two before getting off of him. "Does that mean we're going to Edo today so I can go home?"

His senses erupted when she wrapped her arms around him, his cheeks exploded in a blush, and he grit his teeth. Dammit, she did NOT need to see this. So he gave her a little bit on the back, trying to quiet the strange voices in his head that seemed to pop up the more she held onto him. When she pulled away, the scent remained ever lively on his kimono and now it would almost never leave.

"Yeah." he said, through grit teeth. Thankfully, the blush had gone down quite a bit and nodded. "Yeah, we'll go back to Edo." he said with a nod of his head, standing up. "You start gathering your stuff up, I'll get the others awake." he said. And by "waking the others", it involved picking up Shippo and shaking him awake.

"Ah! Inuyasha!" The small kitsune shouted.

"Wake up." Inuyasha mumbled. "We're going back, Kagome's going home."

"Mmm, she's going home?" miroku asked, rubbing his eyes as he too awoke. "And you're not making an argument, Inuyasha? That's not like you."

"She hasn't seen her family in days, even I'm not that cruel." he said.

Sango came awake to Shippo yelling at Inuyasha. Rubbing her eyes, she sat up and looked around. "What's going on?" She asked. Normally they weren't attacked by demons in the early morning. So she wasn't technically ready for that plan of action. Kirara stretched and yawned before mewing softly. The slayer got up and looked around. "Oh. We're going back to Edo?" She questioned, faintly hearing the last part of Kagome going home for a little while.

Kagome was scurrying around camp, throwing granola bars at Miroku for them to eat while she packed up her things. The next minute, she was rolling up her sleeping bag, almost rolling the kitsune in it before he jumped out of the way. With two quick ties, she carried it all the way to her back-pack and then got her clothes to change into.

"Yeah." The Hanyou said with a nod as he looked about, making sure everything else was ready. "Come on people, let's get going." He seemed a little rushing actually. Miroku and Sango weren't even awake and they were being forced to their feet. "Okay, there, we're ready." he said, patting his hands together. "Let's get going."

"Sango, when Kagome is back at home, we should really try and get Inuyasha some Medicine." he said. "He's starting to worry me more than usual."

Kagome was hoping around, pulling her shoes on. It was a little chilly today so she slipped into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Throwing everything into her back, she slipped it onto her shoulders and took a look around camp to make sure she didn't forget anything before she ran to catch up to the group.

Sango looked at Miroku before she nodded. "Yeah. Maybe Kaede might know what's wrong with him. We should ask when we get to the village." Rubbing her eyes, she followed beside the monk while Kagome caught up to them from behind. "Inuyasha," the female slayer began. "Maybe we can get there faster if Miroku and I ride on Kirara and you carry Kagome."

It was usually how they got around quickly. If there weren't in a tremendous hurry, then they'd walk. But they decided that it was faster if they did it that way.

In his rush, Inuyasha had completely forgotten about the fact he could carry her. He gave her a quick nod. "Right, right. Good idea. Kagome, let's go." he said as he walked over to the girl from another time and gestured. "Come on Kagome, I'm going to carry you." he said, not wasting another moment before Inuyasha scooped her up onto his back and began to rush down the road again.

Miroku and Sango hopped on the now transformed Kirara, who sped after Inuyasha.
