Jugger x Shard

Nathan was surprised to feel a hand force him into an alley and against the wall and a fist shot out, but it stopped part-way there to see it was Kurai when she had just called him an idiot. "Why did you follow me? I thought you said you wanted to go solo or something like that." Looking down to the gauntlets he had been given, he sighed and fitted them on before looking up to see a patrol had appeared...and it all happened so fast. Kurai had pushed him out of the way only to take the bullet for him. Seeing this...angered him. He bent down to care for Kurai before his eyes darted over to the patrol. His eyes were beaming with anger as he readied a punch that went straight into a dumpster...causing a large explosion that sent the dumpster straight to the gangsters, running over them like a truck had hit them. He grabbed his arm and grimaced as the dumpster was too heavy to move with a regular punch and the extra force nearly dislodged his arm. Going over to Kurai, he held her in his arms and scowled. "Kurai...Why did you come back for me. I thought you hated me."

Kurai saw how he reacted and was actually shocked, she didn't think he would even react. Yet as he rushed back over to him she gave a chuckle. "You know I thought the same about you" she said as she was starting to have a little trouble keeping her eyes focused. "I'll be fine. Lets go" she lied as she tried to get a grip on him so to get herself up. "You shouldn't have left the gauntlets" she said as she still couldn't seem to get a grip. Her shoulder was really not helping as more she tried to move that arm the more blood seemed to pour out.

Nathan shook his head and pulled her back down gently. He leaned her against the wall of the alley and began to work on removing the bullets from her shoulder. "Look, we can't move you. Your injury is too big. If we move you, you'll either get infected or you're going to lose too much blood." He said before removing the bullet. He took off his shirt and used it to bandage her shoulder.

Hearing what he said she gave a laugh. "No really I'll be fine" she said to him though as he put her down she gave a groan. She couldn't stand how the pain was as she felt him digging out the bullet. "I'm sorry" she said as her eyes started to close as she was truly having trouble keeping awake only as he tightened the bandage she gave a whimper.

"Don't you dare." He said before taking her chin and making her look at him, though he was gentle with her the whole time. "Don't you dare say you're sorry." He sighed and moved over to sit next to her against the alley wall. "Because I'm the one who's sorry. I'm sorry...for changing into who I am now." He said shrugging before closing his eyes. "I was going to walk the earth...trying to become peaceful as I learn the ways of the world...In hopes that I could restore a friendship that slowly died the day it started."

Feeling his hand take her chin making him look at him her eyes went soft. Even if she didn't say it, she loved him everything about him, including the anger he has yet lately it had been directed in areas she was becoming worried in. "Don't go . . . just . . . don't leave me" she said as she tried to look away. "I would never survive without you" she said as her head leaned against him her eyes slowly closing. She was tired yet she wouldn't allow herself to sleep.

Nathan was growing alarmed with how tired Kurai was becoming. He was hoping she wasn't succumbing to blood loss due to his amateur patching skills with his shirt. He held her close, some small tears in his eyes as he hoped she would live. "Kurai...if you...if you live through this...I promise I'll try my best to make you the happiest woman alive...No matter what..."

Kurai gave a soft chuckle then cringed when she heard that. "I'll . . . hold you to . . . that" she said as she felt a shiver rush through her for a second before looking up to him. "I . . . I . . . do love you" she said as her eyes fully closed her voice had grown weaker at the end as she passed out. While she was on the edge her body was fighting as well as her spirit. If he hadn't done the bandage with his shirt she would have been long gone. Her wound was closing just a little too slowly. Making her body weak her being awake and talking just took too much from her.

Hearing her tell him that she loved him...his heart sunk. Guilt hit him hard...To the point that the tears forced themselves out as he held her close. She loved him...even though he was the cruel bastard that he was then and there. He thought of her as nothing but a sex doll, and she thought of him as a lover...He felt so horrible. He held her close...eventually picking her up and walking out of the alley to find an inn for them to stay in. After a complicated hour later, he finally got her rested on a bed, armor off and replaced with whatever clothes she had on underneath and her wound now properly bandaged with supplies in the inn. "I'm so sorry Kurai..." He said to her unconscious body. "I promise I'll protect you now...and I'll treat you fair...I won't let anything happen to you again...After all...you saved my life three years ago, its time I treat you like someone who deserves everything."

Kurai just had a basic strap shirt on and shorts that showed her body frame perfectly both in pure black almost blending in with her fur. Though as he laid her in the bed she seemed to relax into a deeper sleep helping the wound heal as she slept. Though when he started to speak as she slept she seemed to turn her head towards him a soft purr rumble sounded for a moment before she went silent again. She seemed to give reaction towards his voice. It gave her a sense of peace having him with her.

Nathan pulled a chair over and sat down beside her, watching her with a frown on his face, a sad look in his eyes as he waited for her to wake up. He reached over and caressed her cheek gently, rubbing his thumb along her fur somewhat as he wanted to try and let her have some peace...and to have some peace within himself to feel her, to know she was there and not just an apparition in his mind that only made him think she was there. He would stay there until she'd wake up...He would even sleep at the bedside, still sitting at the chair but with his head on the bed in his arms, waiting still.

As he started to rub her cheek she gave a slight purr sound once more before her eyes started to flutter open. Her purple eyes looking right to his blue eyes connecting even while she was having trouble getting a full focus on them. "Hey" she said softly to him giving a smile to him, while she was feeling a little better she was still feeling weak. The bullet had been special made to give more pain and to kill slowly if not treated. Though in truth it didn't really do anything if used on a human. An anthro and surely they would be weakened to the point of death or dead within a week.

Hearing her, his eyes shot open from their half-closed state and he sat up, rubbing them. "You're awake." He said to her before reaching over to take her hand and hold it with his as he looked at her with worried eyes. "Are you alright Kurai? Do you need anything? Some food? Water? Some sunlight? Anything for you...just name it, and I'll go get it for you...I promise."

Giving a slight laugh she just couldn't help but look to him. "I'm fine just . . . just sore and in a little pain that's all. I'll be fine" she said to him though she had down played the pain part. She was already guessing she was going to be in pain for a while but she wasn't going to let him know just how long it might be that way for her. "Though some food sounds amazing right now" she said as she knew she was going to need to eat more meat to keep her strength up. It was suddenly then she noticed him holding her hand and her eyes grew softer. (She doesn't remember telling him she loved him) "Are you okay though?" she asked him worried as she wasn't use to him being so gentle with her, then again she was liking it.

He cocked his head when she asked if he was okay and he let her hand go and rubbed the back of his head. "Well...I thought my best friend was going to die in my arms earlier after getting shot, so no I don't think I'm alright...Though knowing you're alive is enough for me. I'll be back with some food...don't strain yourself, alright?" He got up and began to leave. He was gone for a good half hour before he came back in with some take-out food for the both of them. "I got us some boneless chicken on a stick and dumplings. I hope you don't mind it too much...I don't recall if you hate or love chicken and dumplings."

As he let her hand go she felt a pain in her chest like she always did only it doubled when he called her best friend. "Yeah . . . . I guess your right. . . . sorry I shouldn't have asked such a stupid question" she said as she turned her head away from him and just let him leave. When he came back she was sitting up but she seemed to be asleep sitting up. Her bandages already changed as she had bled through the older ones from getting up. "Sorry about all this" she said to him as she just took the food and started to eat. "Doesn't matter to me" she said on the topic of if she liked it or not in truth right now she was wishing she had died. While she knew that she didn't truly mean it but loving someone who didn't love you at all always hurt more than getting shot.

Nathan saw the pain in her eyes while she ate but didn't acknowledge it. He felt like he had done something to cause her sadness again. Was it because he didn't remember her favorite food? He was too thick headed and worried about her at the moment to put two and two together to figure out what was wrong with her. "After you're done eating, rest up some more...alright?" He said as he petted her head gently, smiling to her. "I want to make sure you recover to pique condition again Kurai...I owe you this at least."

As she kept eating her mind just kept telling her this really changed nothing and kept taking down everything she hoped for slowly. Her biggest enemy was her own self doubt. Though as she felt his pat on her head and him telling her to rest she nodded her head. "Yeah. I'll do that" she said as she finished up and moved to lay down again, this time she made it look like it had been easy and without pain while in truth her body was pissed at her as her shoulder throbbed with pain from the movement. "night" she said as her eyes closed and she turned away from him to sleep.

Nathan frowned at the pain she was in and sighed as he sat there, watching her as she slept. 'This is my fault. If it wasn't for me, she wouldn't be in this kind of...pain she's in...' He sighed and stayed there, in the inn room with her. He began to throw away the trash and store the leftovers as well as clean things up a bit and actually take a look around the kitchen to see if he could make any good breakfast for her in the morning...though all he found was pretty much spices. He'd have to go out and buy eggs and rice to cook for her to make some fried rice n eggs. Eventually he moved back to his chair, sat down, and fell asleep while leaning on the bed next to her.

Kurai woke up early the next morning, she pushed herself up and saw him in the chair next to her. To her that was strange as she started to get up she placed a blanket around him then made her way to the bathroom. She was in a lot of pain but she didn't want him to baby her. She felt that she could get to the bathroom herself even though by the look of it she was trembling from how much effort she was having to put in it and still she was leaning against the wall for support.

When she wrapped the blanket around him, Nathan began to murmur slightly, his eyes opening and looking up to see Kurai slowly walking toward the bathroom. He yawned silently and unwrapped the blanket from around him and putting it on the bed before he moved over to her, taking her hand and smiling. "Need some help Kurai? Though...I can't help you once you're in there...haha..."

Looking to him as he came up behind her. "I'll be fine why don't you sleep on the bed. I'm going to take a bath" she said to him as she kept moving towards the bathroom. She really didn't want him to over worry yet she felt that sooner or later she would be fine. "Just get some sleep okay" she said to him as she moved into the bathroom starting the water up before getting undressed to get in.

Nathan was still worried. He felt it was now his responsibility to take care of the girl who admitted her love to him...even if he was too afraid to admit it himself in the open. What happened to her was his fault, he was killing himself over it...he couldn't just let her pain herself by moving around without help. Nevertheless...he respected her wishes and went back to the bed...waiting for her, hoping she'd be alright in the bathroom.

As she finished with her bath she let her wound air dry as she came out her fur still rather damp. "I hope you slept a little better" she said to him as she made her way back to the bed. The wound on her shoulder truly looked back but it did look a little better from the day she got it. "Tomorrow I think I can make it back to the apartment should be cheaper staying there than here" she said as she sat on the bed with a sigh of relief of not moving about.

"No, we aren't going back to the apartment...we're going to go back to town and buy that house you've always wanted...I didn't tell you until now...but I've been saving up my half of the bounties to help get us that house." Of course...in reality...he was going to use the money to buy the gauntlets of his dreams, an improved version of his own Explosive Gauntlets, but he never told her...and decided to use the money for her instead. "What do you say Kurai...Wanna settle down and maybe start our own bounty hunting agency? We have contacts to get us Wanted posters, so we should be good to go...what do you say?"
