Batgirl Begins (dbspock/WendyTheRed)

Barbara nodded at Amanda. "Well maybe we'll have to have Dave and Sam face off in a tournament sometime." She grinned then looked thoughtful. "Though Sam already has experience winning tournaments."

She nodded as he gave her a rundown and decided not to let on that her eidetic memory was quite helpful in counting cards. "I think I have it. Thank you for helping Dave, will you help me while we play too or is this tutorial all I get?"

Amanda laughed. “I don’t think Sam is that serious about it. “ she said, then laughed. “I know. I see the trophy every day. “

Dave glanced around uncertain how to respond to her question, but Chloe pretended to be intent on studying her cards and didn’t provide a clue to his response. But he discovered he didn’t mind peeking over Babs shoulder. “I can offer some advice the first couple hands. “ he offered.

Barbara grinned at Amanda. "I was just joking though who knows it could be fun to do something low stakes."

She smiled at Dave and playfully bumped her shoulder into him. "First my hero at the mall, now my hero in Rook." She turned her attention back to the game then so she didn't hold things up.

“Low stake’s being the operative term. “ Amanda said She didn’t want Sam turning into a gambler.

Dave jumped a bit at Babs unexpected contact, then blushed a bit when Babs called him a hero. He muttered something incoherent in response and focused on the game.

After a few hands, it became clear that while Dave didn’t have an eiditic memory, he could keep track of the important cards at least, and was willing to share his strategies with Babs, so by the time Sam and the others exited the house, she should have the game down.

Barbara smiled at Amanda. "I meant something like playful bragging rights or something."

Barbara saw Dave blushing out of the corner of her eyes but decided not to say anything. She definitely paid attention to his lessons and felt like she had a decent grasp om the game now. She glanced up when the door opened and the others came out, trying to get a feel for how things went by their expressions and body language.

“That works. “ Amanda agreed with a soft chuckle.

Jim and Daniel seemed relaxed. Sam seemed shaken and like she’d been crying, but she forced a smile on her face as she walked over to the group. “Deal me in?” She asked, her voice shaking only slightly.

Daniel walked over and picked up the two plates of spaghetti. “I’ll go heat these up real quick and be right back. “ Daniel promised before he turned to head inside.

Barbara wasn't sure what to make of the difference between the men and Sam. If her dad had dropped the hammer on Sam then Daniel would be upset right?

She smiled at Sam when she sat down and nodded. "Careful Sam, Dave is a prodigy or something and he's teaching me all he knows."

She looked over at her dad and flashed him a smile as well. She couldn't help asking. "Did you and Daniel get a chance to talk about Miyagi-do?"

“Oh, that didn’t take long. “ Dave chuckled softly as he shifted position, no longer leaning over Babs shoulder. “She’s already as good as I am. “

Jim smiled back at her and nodded. “You are welcome to join Miyagi-do. “ he told her. “In fact, if you’d like to spend the night, Daniel said your training could start tomorrow morning. “ he offered with a smile.

Barbara smiled at Dave looking a bit surprised. "Flatterer. But I'll take it." She winked at him playfully.

She blinked at her dad's response. Clearly the talk had gone very well but it didn't explain why Sam looked upset. She glanced at Amanda and Sam then back at him. "Well if it is OK with the Larussos I'd like that."

Dave blushed furiously in response to her wink, then studied the cards in his hand like his life depended on it.

“It was my idea. “ Sam said softly, then glanced at her Mom. “Dad said it was okay. “ she promised, then Amanda smiled.

“Sounds lovely. “ she said

Barbara smiled and leaned over to whisper to Dave, quiet enough hopefully no one else could hear. "You're going to have to get used to girls teasing you, you're a hero now." She smiled and leaned back then, looking at Sam in surprise at her answer. She couldn't tell what had happened and she wasn't going to ask now, though poor Sam might get an interrogation later.

Barbara smiled at Sam and Amanda as they talked, then looked curiously at the kitchen and back at the two women across from her. "Well, this should be nice. I am really looking forward to learning from your Dad Sam." She looked at Chloe and Dave then and smiled at them before returning her attention to her cards.

Dave blushed even further and shook his head. He didn’t feel like a hero. All he’d done was shove a trash can over some losers head.

True to his word, Daniel soon returned and handed Jim his plate…and a beer. Clearly Jim was in no hurry to leave.

“Well, you’ll have to settle for learning from me, at least at first. “ Sam said, perking up a bit as she smiled at her Dad and remembered the confidence he’d just shown in her.

Barbara smiled at Dave as he blushed and shook her head. "You blush so much it's cured me of my blushing Dave. Thank you." She turned her attention to Daniel and when she saw the beer she actually relaxed. Apparently whatever talk they'd had had gone well. But then, why did Sam seem like something was bothering her? Barbara's inquisitive mind was already debating possibilities as Sam got her attention with that news.

She smiled at Sam. "So, do I call you Sensei Larusso too? That'd probably be a bit confusing. Hmmm..." She settled back in her chair, looking thoughtful as she played a card. "Well, if your dad has faith in you, then I am sure learning from you will be just fine. Just don't be too hard to hard on me Sensei Sam." She grins as she finds a solution to the Sensei problem, at least in her own mind though she's sure either Sam or her dad will object.

“Uh…you’re welcome?”Dave replied, the question clear in his voice. He didn’t think blushing worked that way, but he wasn’t about to argue. And when someone thanked you, your welcome was the expected response.

“I like it. “ Sam declared in response to her new title.

“Just remember I’m the senior Sensei. “ Daniel teased her. “And cleaning your room is not a training exercise. “ Sam rolled her eyes in response.

“No promises. “ Sensei Sam declared with a gleam in her eyes.

Barbara saw the skeptical look and confusion in Dave's expression. "Don't worry, I know how biology works. It was just a joke." She shakes her head with a good natured smirk.

She looked between Sam and Daniel, amused but not about to take a side though a thought occurs to her. "Oh, since this was impromptu I won't have any exercise clothes on me for tomorrow. Actually, all I have on me is what I'm wearing. I guess I could briefly go home and grab some stuff and come back later."

Biology? Why did she have to talk about biology? The reminder of sex education classes didn’t help his blush at all and Dave studied his cards intently despite the fact it wasn’t his turn.

Jim shook his head at Babs suggestion. “I never made it back home after our shopping trip. You have more clothes in my car than you do at home. “ he pointed out.

She noted Dave's continuing blush and patted his forearm gently. "Dave...Dave...Dave. How are you going to survive high school like this? I think Chloe and I are going to have to protect you from all those scary girls who will swarm you."

She turned her gaze to her dad and laughed. "That's true, so other than toiletries I'm set." She smiled at Sam and Amanda then. "I really do appreciate the invitation to sleep over and start my training in the morning." She quickly played as it was her turn and she didn't want to hold things up.

Dave jumped a bit as she touched his forearm, and Chloe snickered a bit as her comment didn’t help his blush at all. Chloe liked giving Dave a hard time, but Babs was relentless. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder if the invitation was exclusively for Babs, or if she was included as well. And how would Dave handle a sleepover?

“You are always welcome here. “ Amanda assured her, and Sam nodded fervently in agreement.

She gave Chloe a 'he's hopeless' type of look and decided to leave him alone for now so he didn't have a heart attack or something. She did wink at Chloe though and sort of inclined her head at Dave, perhaps hinting they needed to work on him later or something.

She smiled at Amanda and couldn't help noticing Sam's fervent nodding. "Thank you so much for the kind offer. I really appreciate it." She smiled at her dad. "This gives you more time to clear out that room you mentioned." She knew he was a busy man and then a thought occurred to her. "I can't remember if I told you all I'm trying for an internship at Waynetech and have started work on a program to impress Bruce Wayne with. I guess what I'm asking is while I'm here, do you have a computer I can use? I'm on a bit of a deadline since the Gala is this weekend and that's where I hope to get a chance to meet him. Your daughter even kindly offered to help me find a suitable dress for it. I believe the one she had in mind was green and it sounds beautiful."

Chloe nodded at Babs gesture, then buried her face in her cards to hide her smirk. Dave might regret hanging out with her when Babs was done with him.

Jim looked a bit abashed as Babs called him out on his secret plan. Truthfully he hadn’t even started on clearing out the room yet. The bank robbery had thrown his schedule all off. He did brighten a bit at her mention of borrowing a dress. That should save him a bit of money.

“You have a green dress?” Daniel asked Sam, who rolled her eyes again.

“I have a couple, but they probably wouldn’t fit right. Moon is going to bring hers over tomorrow. “Sam told him.

That settled,Daniel turned to Babs. “I have a computer in the office. You are welcome to use the guest account. “ he offered.

Barbara grinned at Chloe's response and shot a quick glance at Dave then turned her attention back to the table. She did see her dad's reaction and smiled, leaning a bit towards him. "You've got a full time job as the Hero Cop of Gotham and I just dropped into your life without warning. I think I can be patient with you about clearing out a room." She blushed slightly as she realized she'd once again given away a bit about her life and past as she leaned back.

She smiled at the exchange between Sam and Daniel then looked at him with a smile. "Thank you. I'm sorry, I really feel like I'm asking for a lot. I just have to get that done before the gala. I really want this internship." She grins at her dad. "And to show some people that when I put my mind to something, it happens."

Jim actually turned a light shade of red at Babs comment about hero cop. “I appreciate that. “ he said, not quite sure what he would have done if Babs hadn’t already found friends to take her in temporarily.

Daniel shook his head at her. “It’s no problem at all. “ he promised her. “And that attitude will serve you well. “

By that point, both men had finished their meal, and Jim rose to his feet. “Thank you for the meal, but I have to head into the office for a bit, then I have a bedroom to prepare. “ he bent down and kissed Babs lightly on the cheek. “Sam offered to give you a ride home when you’re done. “ he told her, and Sam nodded in confirmation. “But if you need anything, just give me a call. “ he said.

“I’ll walk you out. “ Daniel said, as both men began to walk toward the front of the house.

She smiled at her dad and then looked at Daniel, smiling at him. She only hoped her program didn't result in any traces back to his computer but even at a young age, she knew how to avoid stuff like that for the most part. Sure, a pretty skilled computer security person would be able to trace her but she highly doubted the GCPD had anyone like that on staff.

She smiled at the cheek kiss and nodded as he and Daniel started to head to the door. Then the blinked and bolted upright, almost knocking her chair over. "Dad! Wait! Let me get my clothes out of your car before you go!" She hurried after them, paused, ran back and made her next play in the game, then took off after her dad and Daniel.

Jim turned in almost a panic as Babs started yelling, then grinned as he heard what she wanted. “Oh if you insist. “ he said, then impulsively reached out and took her hand as they began to walk again.

Chloe thought for a minute, then her face a bit red with embarrassment, jumped up and followed after the trio. “I can help you pick something out. “ she suggested, wondering if she’d actually be able to work up the nerve to actually ask to borrow something.

Barbara didn't object in the least to him holding her hand and happily followed him outside. She looked over her shoulder at Chloe and grinned. "That'd be wonderful. I know I'm taking those Batman PJs I bought but that's about as far as I've gotten thinking about clothes to take." The PJs in question were a solid black shirt with the Batman logo on the chest and black pants. She'd even bought some black fuzzy bat slippers to pair with them.

She looked closer at Chloe as they walked towards the car and it felt like Chloe had something to ask but she wasn't sure what it was. "Chloe? Is something wrong?"
