Batgirl Begins (dbspock/WendyTheRed)

She glanced over her shoulder at Dave and Chloe, her eyes narrowing painfully. "I'll find a way. I can be determined." She smiles then turns to look at him again.

Well, I'll have to make sure the bus routes run somewhere near here. I might be able to get rides from my dad sometimes but he's a cop so I'm sure there will be times he is busy. But I'll be here. "

She contemplates what to say and settles on. "I had some classes back in Chicago. It was kind of informal they didn't have belts and all that. It was more focused on self defense stuff. I also learned a bit from a friend. Again, nothing formal like a dojo."

"I think we're in trouble." Chloe stage whispered to Dave when Chloe glared at them, and he found himself nodding in agreement,

"Well, if Chloe is interested in in being our pool girl, and a test driver for the dealer, AND you can talk her into taking classes, transportation shouldn't be a problem." Daniel said with a smirk, and Chloe blinked with confusion.

"Wait...what?" Chloe asked. Had she just been offered not one, but two jobs?

Daneil grinned a bit as she talked about her classes. "If you didn't have belts, how'd you hold your gi's closed?" He teased her, then nodded. "We'll start with the basics, then. Just be warned...it's not all flashly like you see on TV. There's a lot of hard work involved."

She raised her eyebrows and then looked over her shoulder at Chloe. "Well now you have to join. We just have to figure out what time to pick up Dave on the way."

She smiled at Daniel rolling her eyes at the joke then looked more serious. I'm not a total beginner. But I get that you need to see my skillset and stuff." She smiled again. "So first class is tomorrow?"

"Uh...." This time Chloe was the one who was speechless, still trying to process the glut of her new workload and not really processing Babs had drafted her into class. Dave, for his part, was speechless as well, as he was just processing this might not be the only time he hung out with Sam and Babs.

"First class is tomorrow, and an ace like you shouldn't have a problem with the beginner's stuff." Daniel couldn't resist easing her again, then gestured down the hall. "Now...shall we see what kind of disaster Sam is making in the kitchen?" He asked with a chuckle as he led the group down the hall.

The kitchen was not on fire, at least, but there was steam pouring out of one of the pots on the stove, unnoticed by Sam who was busy buttering some bread while another pot's lid looked on the verge of flying off as its contents heated up.

Barbara smiled as Daniel teased her. She knew as well as he did she wasn't an ace though she did know she wasn't a beginner either. She nodded and turns to Chloe and Dave. "Are you two coming?" She gently teased both of them and hooked her arms in theirs, dragging them after Daniel.

She followed him to the kitchen, looking at the mess Sam was on the verge of making. She was pretty sure they were minutes away from a slapstick comedy routine in the kitchen and she called out to Sam as they walked in. "Do you need help?" She walked over and lifted the one pot's lid up a crack to let the pressure ease off before it did fly off or something, smiling at Sam as she did. "So, Gordon Ramsey, what's for dinner?"

"Do we have a choice?" Chloe asked, unable to help chuckle as Babs literally dragged them down the hallway. Not that either of them tried to resist, really. They were both still flabbergasted over how they'd been recruited into karate class.

"Ummmm..." Sam paused for a moment, her pride almost causing her to say no, then she spotted Babs avert the near explosion on the stove and conceded to reality. "Yes." She admitted. "Could one of you finish up the sauce while someone else cooks up the noodles? It's going to take me longer than I thought to get the bread ready."

Barbara shook her head when Chloe asked if they had a choice. "I'm afraid not Chloe. Not in coming down the hallway and not..." She winked at Dave. "in joining Miyagi-do with me. We're going to need to be ready the next time somebody messes with us or our friends."

She smiled at Sam as she checked the pot she had stopped from exploding. "Looks like I have noodles. The water is already boiling." She grabbed the bag and dumped the noodles in. Looking around she grabbed some olive oil and some salt and poured them in with the noodles as well. "Spaghetti is one of the few things I know how to cook." She grabbed a wooden spoon and stirred the noodles, setting a timer on her phone for 12 minutes.

Well, Babs certainly wasn't wrong. Both Chloe and Dave had felt woefully unprepared when they had confronted Cobra Kai earlier, and it was only through luck they had escaped with the only damage being to Babs dignity. Still...joining a dojo seemed a bit over the top, but neither of them were quite sure how to say no, especially as Babs reiterated the fact they didn't have a choice.

"Me too...sort of." Sam replied. Chloe stepped up next to Babs and investigated the other pot and sure enough it contained sauce just as she expected. Chloe found a wooden spoon and began to stir it.

"Anything else I need to do to the sauce?" Chloe asked, not sure what Sam had done already.

Sam shook her head and smiled at Dave, who blushed, when he sat down next to her and began buttering a piece of bread, mimicking her movements. "Just make sure it doesn't burn or boil over." Sam requested, then satisfied Dave had the bread in hand, she went to the cabinet and began removing plates. "So is your Dad going to join us?' Sam asked as she counted the dinner guests in her head.

Barbara could see Chloe and Dave were a bit unsure about things. She felt a bit guilty as she knew she was almost bullying them into it but she truly believed they'd need at least basic defense skills the way things were going. If nothing else, if they could hold off an attacker each it'd give her time to deal with others when another situation came up.

Barbara peered over into the pot with the sauce and couldn't help asking Sam. "I assume this is store bought? Did you add any spices to it? Brown meat to add to it maybe?" She looked at Sam then and considered the question. "Oh...good question. Hang on." She pulled out her phone and dialed her dad when he answered she spoke, grinning at Sam.

"Hey dad, would you like to have spaghetti with my friends and I and maybe meet my new karate sensei too?" She asked, grinning as she had the feeling he wouldn't be able to resist after that news.

If Chloe was unsure about the whole karate thing, she was a bit more secure about the cooking thing. Sure, she was no expert, but all she had to do was stir the sauce. She could handle that. But then, Babs had to make it more complicated. "Looks like there's meat in it." Chloe confirmed, and Sam glanced up from her table duties...Daniel seemed to have disappeared once it became clear Sam had things under control...mostly.

"Yeah, it's store bought." She admitted, then nodded at Chloe's statements. "There's spices in it as well. I just didn't add any onions in case someone had an issue with them."

Once again, Jim picked up on Babs call right away. Clearly he had it on priority alert. "Spaghetti sounds wonderful." He said, the smile evident even over the phone. He'd been going to stop off for a burger on his way home, this sounded a lot more appealing. And vetting Babs friends was also a good thing, as he still wasn't sure about the whole Sam thing. "And when did you find time to get into a dojo?" he asked with surprise. Last he heard she was going to talk to Sensei Silver at the gala...could he afford whatever dojo she was joining?

She smiled at Sam's confirmation it was store bought. "Don't worry, I was just curious. Store bought can be really good though it does sometimes need extra seasoning in my opinion. I love onions but I know some people don't like them. " She blushes. "Wow, I'm being bossy..." She turned her attention to her phone call, a bit embarrassed now.

"Well, the dojo is run by Sam's dad. She invited me in and I uhhh...invited Dave and Chloe in. " She decided that was a nice way to phrase that she'd more or less strong-armed them into it. As if she could read his mind her eyes suddenly widened and she looked at Sam. "Sam? How much does Miyagi-do cost to attend? I should have asked that before dragging everyone in."

"It suits you. Your a Gordon." Chloe teased her when Babs realized she was taking over kitchen duties.

Jim didn't know his daughter well enough to pick up on the implications of her 'inviting' her friends along. He just thought it was something they all decided to do together, as teens were often like pack animals. At least joining a dojo didn't sound too terrible, even if it was run by a Larusso.

Sam had just decided it was too nice an evening to spend it all inside, and had just been carrying a load of dishes out the door when she heard Babs question. "Oh...that's the best part." She said happily as she set the dishes down and got out her phone. It took her only a second to pull up her Dad's add, and she played it for Babs (and Dave and Chloe, who took a brief break from their duties). Sam couldn't help but grin when her Dad mentioned the 'free' part. It had garnered some interest, but the kids had all quit when they realized it involved actual work, not just kicking stuff.

Barbara watched the ad and grinned before turning her attention back to the phone. "Good news dad, it's also free. That's a price even a cop can afford. We're getting ready to serve the food. Looks like we'll be eating on their back porch. I'll make sure to save you a plate. You can meet Sam and her dad and her mother while we all eat. See you when you get here. Love you!" She hung up and smiled, tucking her phone away as she looked around.

"Alright, what should I carry outside? I feel like I've been bossy enough, this is somebody else's turn to boss me around. Take it while you can!"

"He's not giving you a discount because your my daughter, is he?" Jim asked suspiciously. Babs was a bit naive about some things, it seemed. Free could come with quite the price tag attached, because then you owed someone a favor, and that was not a path Jim Gordon was going to go down. But he wasn't sure Babs even heard his question as she rattled off the rest of her instructions and disconnected before he could even say he loved her back.

"Yes, ma'am." Sam laughed as Babs bossed her to boss her around. Her hands were full with the dishes again, so she just sort of waved her head at the stove. "The sauce should be plenty hot by now, so we're just waiting for the noodles. As soon as that's done, if you wouldn't mind draining the noodles, adding the sauce, and bringing it all outside, that would be great." Sam then smiled over at Dave who had just finished carefully buttering the last piece of bread. "Ovens already preheated, so just throw those in for a few minutes to warm them up, then bring them outside with the spaghetti." Sam told him, and Dave nodded in agreement as he picked up the tray of bread and headed for the oven, pausing for a moment as he tried to figure out how to open it when eh had both hands on the tray. Chloe spotted his dilemma and stepped in, popping the oven open for him.

Barbara thought she heard her dad say something right before she hung up but she'd been too distracted to pick up on it. She figured he'd ask her later. She nodded at Sam's instructions, feeling a bit subdued as it set in how'd she'd been acting for the last couple of hours. She carefully carried the noodles to the sink. Luckily she was in pretty good shape from her track and field and self defense classes because the pot was heavy. Also luckily it was one of those special noodle pots that had the inner one you could lift out with holes cut to drain. She carefully lifted it into the other sink and left it there to drain.

She looked from the draining noodles to the sauce pan and finally to Chloe and Dave. "Do you think we should put the noodles and sauce into a big serving bowl or something or just like...dump them in the sauce pan and take it out? What do you two think?"

Dave turned to Babs and blinked in response to her question. He wasn't sure what difference it made and had no real opinion on the subject. Never one to talk just to move his mouth, he didn't say anything, confident the two females would come to some sort of conclusion.

Chloe popped the lid on the sauce pan, then shook her head. "I don't want to risk adding noodles to this pan." She declared. "Even if there was room, it would be hard to stir. I think dirtying up a dish is our best option." Chloe glanced around the kitchen, then spotted a large bowl on top of a cabinet. "Dave...could you grab that?" She asked with a sweet smile it was debatable if Dave even noticed. But as Chloe suspected, his greater height meant he had no problem retrieving the serving dish, and he placed it on the counter next to Babs as Chloe turned the oven off and brought the sauce over.

She smiled as Dave got that deer in headlights look but luckily Chloe stepped in. Barbara nodded and watched as Chloe came up with a plan and got Dave's help in getting the bowl. She was more than content to let others take charge for now, still feeling a bit awkward about her own behavior lately. When he set it down she smiled at him and poured the noodles in after making sure they were drained. That done she stepped back out of Chloe's way.

She fidgeted some and looked at the two of them. "I feel like I've been pushy and almost a bully over the last couple of hours. I think I was fired up after what happened at the mall. I'm sorry. You guys don't have to come to Miyagi-do if you don't want. Though I hope you do. And I hope Chloe can give me rides when I need them regardless."

Chloe was mixing the sauce into the spaghetti, then turned and looked at Babs like she had grown an extra head. "You are NOT a bully." Chloe declared in no uncertain terms, then stepped over and hugged Babs just because it felt right. "I'm not sure if I want to go to Miyigo-do or not." She answered honestly. "But...I was terrified when that guy was coming at me...until you kicked him in the crotch." Chloe giggled softly at that memory. "So if Mr. Larusso can teach me how to do what you did...well, I want to give it a try." Chloe declared, and Dave nodded in agreement. "And rides are always on the table now that I have transportation." She declared, then turned to the spaghetti. "Now...if I'm not bossing anyone around...I think we should take this out there before it gets cold. And don't forget the bread." She reminded Dave, who had indeed forgotten, and he turned and began to take the tray out of the oven.

Barbara smiled at Chloe and returned the hug. "Well, you saw that video. He might not teach you how to kick someone in the crotch but apparently he can teach how to kick someone in the face. So, what can I carry or whatever to make myself useful?" She smiled shyly at the two of them as she realized Chloe had the bowl and Dave had the bread.

She checked her phone as her stomach growled and hoped her dad wasn't far away. She blushed slightly at the stomach growl. "Crotch kicks uhh...take a lot of energy I guess?"

"Well...I'm not sure I could reach some people's face." Chloe giggled as she glanced at Dave, who's face was about a foot over her shoulder. She glanced around the kitchen but couldn't think of anything else that needed to be carried. Then she reached the closed door and didn't have a free hand to open it. "How about you open the door?" She suggested, then giggled again as she heard Bab's stomach growl. "well, it sure took the energy out of him." She quipped.

She smirked and looked from Chloe to Dave. "Remember what I did to Mohawk boy with the tray where I hit him in the back of the knee? That's how you bring one down to your level."

She walked over and opened the door, stepping aside and making a sweeping gesture like she was a doorman at a fancy hotel. "That's the idea Chloe..."

larusso-house-in-cobra-kai-758x500.jpg "I don't think Mr. Larusso will teach us to use trays either." Chloe pointed out, then nodded at Babs as she proceeded out the back door, unwilling to return the bow at the moment due to the pot she was carrying. She paused for a moment to take in the view of the back yard, complete with the promised pool. "Wow." She said softly. Then it was obvious where they were going to eat, and Chloe led Dave over to where Sam was just finishing setting the table.

"Your home is lovely." She told the Larusso's before she took a seat, and Dave nervously settled in next to her. Sam couldn't help but grin as she took the other seat next to Dave, trapping him between the two cute girls.

Barbara shrugged with a smirk at Chloe's reply. "I was improvising. It's called an equalizer. It was narrow and I figured if it hit the back of his knees it'd knock him down. It worked. Also, turns out a tray to the face is pretty effective too. You should see what I can do with an umbrella." She followed the others out and also paused to take in the backyard.

She couldn't help noticing Dave still seemed nervous and the two girls flanked him. She smiled as she settled onto a seat next to Chloe if one was available and glanced at her phone. "I'm hoping dad texts when he arrives but he's a dinosaur so he'll probably just ring the doorbell or something."

"You mean aside from keep the rain or sun off you?" Chloe teased her as they settled into their seats, and there was indeed one next to Chloe, so Babs found herself next to Amanda and across from Daniel...perhaps not the best seat choice, given her low cut top, but Daniel didn't notice the view until after he'd been seated, and by then it was to late to move without making a major production out of it, which probably would have only made it worse.

And then Babs offered up at least a temporary escape. "I'll go wait by the front door for him. As one dinosaur to another, I think he'd appreciate the gesture." Daniel said with a grin in Babs direction. Given their daughter's respective ages, he suspected Captain Gordon was close to his age.

"Well, no need to let the food get cold while we wait. I'm sure your father wouldn't mind." Amanda said with a nod at Babs. She then reached out and picked up the sprocket, passing it to Babs so she could serve herself.

Barbara noticed Daniel was a bit uncomfortable, she also noticed there were three empty seats on the other side of the table and four of them crammed in on this one side. Barbara flushed at Daniel's tease about dinosaurs. "Oh, wow, I didn't think before opening my mouth. I'm sorry Mister Larusso. And that'd be nice. He may grill you about Miyagi-Do though, be ready." When Daniel had left Barbara grabbed her plate and moved to the other side of the table so when her dad and Mister Larusso came back the seating would be bit more even.

Barbara nodded to Amanda and filled her plate then leaned over the table to pass the sprocket to Sam, figuring she'd pass it down that side of the table. Once she took it, she'd sit back down and smile at Amanda. "You have a very nice home Mrs Larusso. Thank you for having us over for dinner. "
