Batgirl Begins (dbspock/WendyTheRed)

"Babs...Mancusso doesn't have ANY kids." Jim told her firmly, then sighed as he recalled Harvey had said the same thing about him yesterday. But at list Jim's file had Barabra listed under next of kin, but there was nothing like that in Mancusso's file. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time said files were incomplete. "I'll talk to Montoya about it." Jim finally said softly. She had the inside track on the department personal relationships and would know if he had a kid who wasn't listed. Jim didn't know anything about how karate tournaments worked so he couldn't speak to that.

Jim sighed as he heard the report. The problem was, it could be interpreted either way. "Are you sure she didn't throw the first punch?" Jim asked with a frown. Not that it was any excuse for tearing her clothes off, of course, but it made a big difference in the self defense angle. He then sat bolt upright...wait...they yanked your skirt off?" He demanded, finding it hard to believe his daughter had been stripped again her first full day in Gotham. He then frowned as another thought occurred to him. "Wait...you said they ripped off Miss Larusso's clothes...did they damage them? Or your skirt? Do you think you can get her clothes?" It might make good evidence if he wanted to build any kind of case, and his frown deepened as he read the official report from the mall. "The video footage is unavailable." He told her, and that also made him more inclined to believe Babs. If Sam was the aggressor, he had little doubt there would be video footage to back it up. Eyewitness reports were, sadly, notoriously unreliable.

"I'm familiar with the area." Jim told her. "Just...don't go visiting the neighbors, okay? when I get off work this evening, I'll come by and give you and Chloe a ride home, okay?"

Just then, Chloe popped her head out the door again to see what was taking Babs so long. Just giving the Captain a quick update on their location shouldn't have taken more than a minute.

She shrugged then felt like an idiot since her dad wouldn't see the gesture. "I don't know. I just know what she told me and she specifically called out Mancusso. Maybe, well, maybe the kid is illegitimate or something? I don't know. I'll ask her for the kid's name." She sighed at his next question. "No, two of them had grabbed her. One was taunting her, another ripped her shirt open right there in the food court, tearing all the buttons off. I can't remember if she wore it home, Dave gave her his jacket to wear. By some miracle my skirt is fine, thank God, since it's a loaner from Chloe."

"Dad, I know you're seeing a record on her, but try to trust my instincts, at least until you meet her then you can judge for yourself. I'll ask if she can give me the shirt but she's scared to get the GCPD involved because of this Mancusso guy. She's afraid he'll retaliate. And yes, we'll be here. Probably eating a badly cooked dinner if I've judged Sam's cooking talents right." She looked over when she saw Chloe. "I have to go, Chloe is giving me that impatient 'you're holding up the movie' look. Dad. I'm a Gordon. Like you. I believe in justice and what nearly happened to Sam wasn't justice. And I don't think her having a record is either. Bye, love you."

She hung up and jogged to the porch. "I was filling him in on what happened. I think he'll look into Mancussom, that cop Sam mentioned? But he said his file doesn't show him having any kids..."

"The kid's name would help." Jim declared. "Any information you can get me would help, including her shirt." The dad in Jim was grateful Bab's borrowed skirt was fine, though the cop in him regretted the loss of evidence. "And yes, I would like to meet her. Maybe she'd like to come over for dinner one night?" Jim wasn't sure when he'd get a night off, but he'd make it happen. He sighed a bit when she said Sam was afraid of the GCPD. "I'm not going to use her name, or do anything until I have an idea what's going on." He assured her. "But please...give her my number. Tell her if she has any trouble with the GCPD to give me a call." Jim knew he couldn't make the offer to all the people who were afraid of the GCPD, but if this was a friend of Bab's, he'd make an exception.

"Love you, kid." Jim said, then looked at the mound of paperwork on his desk with a sigh. He hadn't even started cleaning out his office at home for Babs yet, not to mention his normal caseload, and now he had a cop terrorizing high school kids to investigate. There truly was no rest for the wicked...or those that dared deal with them.

"Is he coming to arrest Dave for seeing you in your panties?" Chloe teased when Babs joined her on the porch. She shrugged when Babs mentioned Mancusso not having kids. "Last week, most would have said the same about Captain Gordon." She pointed out as she led Babs inside to the others. Amanda was nowhere around, but Dave was standing at a counter filling up a popcorn machine, and wearing his jacket again. Sam, her hair now wet and catsup free, was wearing a T-shirt now, and was filling a tray with drinks. She smiled brightly when Babs walked in.

"Chloe said you were a root beer fan, so that's what I got you." She said. "You can swap it out if you like...only rule is stay out of the alcohol cabinet."

Barbara smirked at Chloe's tease. "You know, I don't think he even picked up on that being a thing when I told him about the fight. He was in cop mode as much as he was in dad mode. I'm sure later tonight he'll be like 'wait, did she say a boy was there too?' " She shrugged. "Well, he also pointed out that I am in his files as his next of kin, so while people in general wouldn't have known about me, anyone who checked his GCPD files would see my name. But there's nothing like that in Mancusso's file. No children at all."

"Hey Sam, my dad wanted to know if he could have your shirt for evidence. He also wanted me to give you his name if you wanted it. In case you have problems in the future with Mancusso or others." She hesitated. "He did, say, however, that Mancusso's file doesn't show any kids. I told him I'd get the name so he could look into it. He invited you to have dinner with us sometime if you'd like. I also mentioned you'd floated the idea of him coming here to have dinner."

She smiled at the offer of root beer and nodded. "I do like it. Maybe not as much as Chloe but I do like it." She winked at Chloe then looked at Dave by the popcorn machine and back to Sam. "So Dave's on popcorn. You're on drinks. I guess Chloe was sent to corral me. What can I do?"

Chloe laughed a bit as she visualized the conversation. "Yeah...I've been on the receiving end of cop mode a few times. He's quite good at it, and I'm sure he'll get the hang of dad mode soon enough. And yeah...of course your int he file, because he's honest when he fills out paperwork. Someone who is trying to avoid child support wouldn't put their kid on their application." She pointed out.

Sam looked over at Babs blankly as she asked about her shirt, and she glanced down at the Mickey Mouse emblem on the shirt she was wearing with confusion. "Evidence of what? That I like Disneyland?" She asked, then she blinked and shrugged at Babs offer of her dad's name. "Sure...I guess it wouldn't hurt...maybe." Bab's dad couldn't be any worse than Mancusso...could he? She sighed and shook her head at what Babs said. "Maybe its not true? I just know Danny keeps throwing officer Mancusso's name around as his dad, and anyone who is stupid enough to get the police involved with him around, it doesn't go well for them. But the kids name is Daniel Walker." Sam blinked with surprise at the dinner invite. "Ummm...all right. I guess...that would be cool." She was more than leery about being around a GCPD officer by choice, but what could go wrong at a dinner? Sam flushed a bit at the reminder having a cop over had been her idea in the first place, but it had seemed like a good idea at the time, and now she was stuck with it.

"Well, Chloe already drank a two liter bottle of it, so I'm sure that's true." Sam teased Chloe, and Chloe hit Sam lightly on the shoulder in retaliation.

"I did not." She protested.

"Yeah...I had a glass. Chloe finished off the rest." Dave chimed in as the popcorn began to pop, and he carefully began to add the butter the way Sam had showed him.

Sam nodded as she finished up the drinks, then looked around the room with a shrug at Babs offer. "I think we got it covered." She declared. "So you can tell me what I missed, and enjoy the movie."

Barbara rolled her eyes, a bit surprised Sam misunderstood so completely. "The shirt you were wearing that got ripped by those Cobra Kai thugs. It could be evidence of what happened. My dad said the security footage at the mall was corrupted." She nodded when Sam gave her the name and quickly fired off a text to her dad.

"Kid claiming to be Mancusso's is named Daniel Walker. Maybe he has a record or something?" She typed up the text and quickly sent it to her dad's cell.

Barbara looked up from her phone on time to hear Sam's claim and she looked at Chloe. "Chloe, a full two liter? I just..." she laughs and shakes her head. "I get worried about having one or two." She grins as Dave chimes in and beams at him. "You know Dave, I bet you have a lot of secrets of Chloe's you could share." She wandered over and slipped her arm around his waist, winking at Chloe. "Don't worry, I'll protect you from her retaliation."

She looked at Sam then. "Nothing really. I called my dad and filled him in. He was a bit worried at first because of your past encountered with the GCPD but I told him I stood by you and told him about Mancusso. I think once he meets you he'll be totally convinced but for now, he's starting to look into it. I think his instincts are kicking in from what I told him..."

Sam had done her best to block her earlier encounter from her mind, and when Babs reminded her of it so abruptly her fists clenched and she began to shake slightly. She took a deep breathe and did a quick kata before she faced Babs again. "It's in the trash in my room. If he wants it, he can have it." She said through her teeth, not at all surprised there was no security footage proving she was the victim, but also grateful there was no video evidence of her bra. "I'm surprised he's letting you stay." Sam muttered when she was told Jim had read her file already. There were actually tears in her eyes when her new friend said she stook up for her. "Thank you."

Dave was busy transferring the popcorn into bowls and missed Babs walking up to him until she slipped an arm around his waist. The unexpected contact caused him to jump slightly, and as he was holding a bowl of popcorn at the time, said popcorn went up with him, and when it came down...not all of it stayed in the bowl. Some of it found its way onto Babs, some of it landing in her hair, while some found its way towards her cleavage. Dave's eyes widened as he watched the popcorn travel towards Bab's, and he did the only thing he could think of...try and catch it with the bowl, not thinking that shoving the bowl of popcorn at Bab's tits might make things much worse.

Barbara gave Sam a sympathetic look, she, of any of them, understood what Sam was feeling right now. "I'll get it later if you don't mind." She shrugged. "Well, he may have done the dad cop thing and found your record and that's when I told him about Mancusso and made sure he understood that I believed you, not your record. Don't worry, I think he has good instincts. When he meets you he'll see I'm right." She smiled reassuringly at her. "You've got an ally in the GCPD now Sam. I can't guarantee he'll be able to stop Mancusso from hassling you, I don't know how much he can do, but at least you'll have someone to help if you need it." She was careful not to give Sam false hope since she truly didn't know what her dad might be able to accomplish.

The whole popcorn fiasco seemed to happen in slow motion. Barbara, much like Dave watched it arc towards her hair and cleavage. She was about to say something when the bowl came around and poor Dave, in his attempt to fix it, made it worse. The angle he came at caused the bowl to slap against her breasts from below, bouncing them in her bra hard enough that if he looked down, he'd see one of her cups had slipped and her nipple was visible inside her low cut shirt, at least, if you saw it from above as he would. More popcorn flew up and though thankfully most of it fell back into the bowl and only some of it landed on Babs, though she did end up with even more in her cleavage.

Barbara froze, a dark flush on her cheeks as she looked at the other two girls with a surprised look. She then looked up at Dave. "Ummm...sorry for startling you. It was my fault, I'll clean up..."

Sam shook her head. She didn't want anything else to do with that shirt, even if it was one her Dad had given her, so if Babs wanted it, she could have it. She tried to return Babs smile, but the term 'ally' and 'GCPD' didn't really mesh as far as she was concerned. But if she did encounter the GCPD again, would Jim Gordon really be any worse than Mancusso? Sure, Sam could think of several ways that was conceivable, but a decent person wouldn't have a daughter like Babs. Sam was so caught up in her own thoughts that she didn't notice most of the popcorn debacle.

Did he...did he? Were her breasts really that big? Or was he just closer than he thought? Dave wasn't sure HOW it happened, it was just undeniable THAT it had happened. He'd actually hit Bab's boobs with the bowl. He stared down at the impact with horror, and...was that a nipple? It sure as hell looked like it. Dave hardly noticed the popcorn that had been added to her cleavage...the other stuff inside her shirt was far more interesting to him, and he just froze in place.

Sam, for her part, started laughing hysterically, the emotions of the day finally breaking down the wall she'd built up. "Y...you have..." She said as she patted at her hair, trying to tell Babs she had popcorn in her hair. She continued to laugh, leaning against the counter for support as tears streamed down her face, laughing so loud Amanda poked her head in and sighed a bit at the popcorn on the floor.

"Chloe...there's a dustpan under the sink." She told the girl when it seemed Sam wasn't going to be able to help anytime soon. Chloe nodded and retrieved said dustpan, while Amanda began to sweep up the popcorn that had fallen on the floor.

She blinked slowly as it all set in. She noticed that Dave had frozen above her but it was Samantha's reaction that really drew her attention. She was quite happy to see the girl laughing, she was able to guess that it was a release of all the tension that had been building since the incident in the mall. She grinned and caught on to what Sam was trying to tell her.

She reached up and brushed at her hair then shook her head back and forth, unaware that that action caused her boobs to bounce around even more. The nipple that was free of her bra rubbed against her shirt and hardened a little. She looked up at Dave then, figuring he had the best view. "Did I get it all?"

She blinked then as she saw where Dave's eyes were fastened and she flushed crimson. She jumped away from him and looked down at herself, to get the popcorn out of her cleavage, only then realizing the bra issue and quickly popping her breast back into her bra. She slowly looked away, hoping beyond hope no one else knew what had happened and looked at Amanda sweeping. "Oh. I can do that Mrs Larusso, it's my fault really."

Chloe giggled a bit as well when Babs began to shake her head, causing popcorn to fall to the floor. "That's a neat trick. You should take that on the road." She teased, unaware of just how neat a trick it was. Dave, however, caught the entire thing, and his eyes widened at her question. "Uh...uh..." He began, than shook his head, his eyes fixed on a few stubborn pieces of popcorn that were caught between her breasts.

Dave continued to remain frozen in place, processing what he'd just seen, while Sam had collapsed into a chair, still laughing hysterically. "It's quite all right." Amadna said, though she did relinquish the broom to Babs, not wanting to discourage a teen from volunteering to clean. She then went over and hugged her daughter, sensing this was not even close to the time for a lecture about hospitality and cleaning, and Sam turned and hugged Amadna tightly.

Chloe knelt down, unaware of the way it made her shirt hang down, and scooped up a few stray popcorn pieces, then positioned the dustpan so Babs could sweep up the rest.

Barbara was still red but thankfully Amanda was more concerned with Sam and probably assumed she was embarrassed at causing a mess anyway. She threw herself into sweeping up the mess, pausing to pluck the stray pieces out of her cleavage. She shrugged and popped them into her mouth, crunching on them as she swept the rest into the dustpan that Chloe held for her. "Well, other than some wasted popcorn and fraying Dave's nerves that could have been worse." She chose not to reveal why Dave's nerves were frayed, not wanting to embarrass either of them any further.

"So, movie? Where are we sitting?" She smiled as she watched Sam and Amanda, feeling a brief pang of jealousy she didn't have that kind of relationship with her own mother. She walked over to replace the broom from where she had seen Amanda grab and walked back over, looking at Dave to see if he had recovered yet, her own cheeks slowly starting to cool off.

Chloe hadn't picked up on what Dave's height had meant to the angle he had on Babs cleavage, or what her own cleavage was doing as she helped sweep up the mess, so she just assumed Dave's nerves were frayed because he'd spilled the popcorn, not because of where. "Yeah...no harm done." Chloe agreed, not wanting Sam to get in trouble for some reason, but it didn't look like that thought was remotely on her mother's mind as she gently wiped her daughter's eyes, then gave her one last hug before she rose to her feet.

"I'll help with the popcorn." Amanda said with a smile as she picked up a couple full bowls. Dave, for his part, still seemed frozen in place. "Sam, why don't you show our guests to the media room?"

Sam nodded, her emotions a bit more under control now, and scooped up the tray of drinks. "This way," She said as they exited the kitchen, want down the hall a bit, then took a left. As Sam walked down the hallway, she'd see a couple family portraits (including an older brother, who looked to be college age), as well as one that included an old Japanese man. There was also a photo of Sam in a cheerleading outfit, as well as a karate Gi holding a trophy. There was also a camping photo of young Sam holding a fish, but she didn't look real happy in that one.

The media room didn't look like anything special, at first. Just a couple couches along the walls, a large bean bag on the floor, and a counter. Sam and Amanda placed their items on said counter, while Sam moved towards the closet. She flipped a switch, and the blinds began to close while a movie screen began to descend. A few more buttons, the projector hidden int he ceiling came to life and images began to flash on the wall, while sound came from the hidden speakers. "Sit where you like." Sam said brightly as she flopped down on the bean bag, which was large enough to accommodate two more if they chose.

She smiled at Sam and gently elbowed Dave as she passed him, whispering. "It was my fault, don't blame yourself, come on." She walked down the hallway with the others, pausing briefly by the photos. She studied the older Japanese man in particular and looked at the Gi Sam was wearing and back to his photo, noticing a bandana on his head with a similar symbol on it. "Miyagi..." She said quietly then hurried to catch up to the others in the media room.

She looked around the media room in a bit of awe as they walked in, quite obviously very impressed by the room. She watched all the automatic stuff happening, the blinds closing, the project coming on, etc and for an instant she had a flash of an idea. A room that could be used to hide things and she cocked her head as the image played in her mind. She blinked and shook her head, forcing the day dream out as Sam plopped down on the beanbag. She smiled and looked at Chloe and Dave then moved to one of the couches after grabbing her drink and a bowl of popcorn. She kicked off her shoes and stretched her long legs out on the couch, settling in. "Oh...this is heaven..." She sighed happily as she took a sip of her root beer.

Dave didn't see how it was her fault...he'd been holding the popcorn, he'd dumped it on her, he'd stared at her boob...but he didn't want to argue about it, or talk about it, and he suspected she didn't either. Evern if she blamed him internally, she didn't seem inclined to hold it against him, and he let out a breathe he hadn't known he'd been holding and followed the group down the hall.

Chloe, for her part, seemed more interested in the cheerleader outfit Sam was wearing on one of the photos. "Look...we're hanging out with a cheerleader!" She giggled to Dave, who chuckled a bit as they entered the media room, where they appeared just as interested as Babs was. Dave actually walked over to the controls and looked over Sam's shoulder as she pulled up the movie, while Chloe went to investigate the blinds. After that, Chloe couldn't resist belly flopping next to Sam on the bean bag, and while there was room for Dave, he opted to sit on the couch with Babs instead...though making sure to leave a considerable gap between them.

"I don't know about heaven, but it's great." Chloe agreed as she shoved some popcorn into her mouth.

Barbara snorted as Chloe belly flopped on the beanbag chair. "Chloe, don't break the bean bag, I want to be invited back you know!" She couldn't help teasing Chloe as the movie was still going through the various warning logos and stuff. Seeing she still had a few seconds she made a snap decision and called quietly to Sam. "Sam, ask your sensei if I can join Miyagi-Do. I want to learn to defend myself and others and I don't think Gotham is going to give me time to look around for non-psycho dojos. And if you're in it, I know it's not psycho."

Barbara playfully wiggled her toes at Dave in a sort of hello when he plopped down on her couch and ate some popcorn. She very briefly considered teasing him about her skirt and where he was sitting but she figured that'd be cruel and he might just have a heart attack. She did whisper to him though. "I don't bite Dave." She smiled and then turned her attention to the movie.

"Hey, if my brother couldn't break this thing, a lightweight like Chloe won't." Sam promised, then her eyes widened at Bab's question. "I don't need to ask...Dad put a video on the internet last month inviting anyone to join. You are more than welcome." She promised, then giggled. "Though no guarantees about my sanity." She laughed.

Dave was actually watching the movie and didn't notice the way her skirt rode up her legs a bit until she called attention to the fact by wriggling her toes. Even then, he couldn't see much as the lights had dimmed as well by that point. "Then how are you going to eat the popcorn?" He tried to tease her.

She blinked as she realized Sam was telling her that her father was the Sensei. "Well, he'll probably want to meet me to make sure I'm not psycho then." She smirked slightly and laughed along with Sam.

Barbara's attention turned back to Dave and an idea popped into her head. A sort of naughty idea but something in Dave brought out a teasing side of her she didn't know she had. She sat up and looked over to the beanbag chair, seeing that it was in front of the couch and neither Sam or Chloe would see unless they turned around she quietly crawled across the couch and sat next to Dave, tucking her legs under herself. She took a piece of popcorn out of the bowl and dropped it into his hand then looked at him and opened her mouth, waiting to see what he would do.

"He'll take my word for it." Sam declared. Once Babs had declared she wanted to join the dojo, Sam wasn't going to have it any other way. She'd argue with Dad about it if that's what it took, but she knew it wouldn't be a problem. Dad was always willing to take on a new student.

Dave was doing his best to ignore Babs and watch the movie, but when she crawled over and sat next to him, her bare thigh touching his pant leg, well, that was impossible not to notice. He looked confused for a moment as she gave him a piece of popcorn...he could easily get his own...then when she opened his mouth, he guessed he wanted him to feed it to her for some reason. Perhaps another way of assuring him she wasn't upset with him for dumping the popcorn on her? In any case, there was no reason not to play along, and he lifted the popcorn and began to bring it towards her mouth...only diverting at the last second to jam it up her nose. "It won't fit." He complained quietly.

Barbara smiled at Sam's reply. "Sounds like both our dads know who to listen to."

She smirked at Dave and dropped that piece of popcorn into his bowl then grabbed another. Unless he stopped her she'd put it between his fingers and grab his wrist and bring his hand up to her mouth. Assuming she made it this far she'd hold eye contact as she wrapped her lips around his fingers and more or less sucked the popcorn from between them. Then she'd whisper "See? I don't bite."

Well, that little joke didn't go over as well as he thought it might, but she didn't seem to get upset and move away from him, so he supposed that was something. He just wasn't sure what yet. And speaking of not sure...he wasn't sure just what she was doing as she placed another piece of popcorn in his hand. He didn't resist, curious what she had in mind, as she raised his hand, then his eyes widened a bit as his fingers approached her lips. Was she actually going to....?

She did. She reached out with her lips and wrapped them around his fingers, and he could feel the dampness of her saliva. "Uhhhh,,,was his brilliant response to her actions as he just stared at her, unable to believe a woman's lips had just touched his fingers.

Barbara can't help a smug grin as he seems to be speechless now. She reaches into the bowl and casually grabs a handful of popcorn. She pauses before she eats it. "Close your mouth Dave you'll catch flies." She whispers before she eate the handful of popcorn eyes glued to the movie.

She glanced at him out of the corner of her eyes as she finishes the handful of popcorn and smiles again, she almost says something but seems to think better of it and looks back to the movie debating on whether she'll tell Chloe about this later. For now she decides not to worry about it and just sits there next to Dave, enjoying the movie.

"Uhhhh,,," Dave repeated before taking her advice and closing his mouth. Except for a moment towards the end when Sam received a text and had to quickly excuse herself from the room, the rest of the movie passed without incident, and Sam reentered the room and pressed the controls that opened the blinds and brought the lights back up.

"I hope everyone enjoyed it." She said, glancing around the room and noting with satisfaction the empty bowls and glasses indicating they had enjoyed the food and drink at least. She then smiled. "Now if everyone is ready to endure a horror film...dinner is in progress." As she led the group back out of the room, Sam would make a brief detour to the living room, where Amadna and a man Babs would recognize from the photo, were sitting on the couch.

"Dad? This is Chloe...Dave...And Babs." Chloe and Dave each waved shyly as their names were called, and Daniel rose and crossed the room, shaking each of their hands in turn. "Delighted to meet you." He said with what seemed a genuine smile.

She watched Sam take the text and leave. She assumed it must be from family or something so didn't comment.

She smiled at the end of the movie and sat up excitedly. "It was better than I expected actually." She perked when Sam mentioned a horror movie but let out a dramatic sigh at the punchline.

She followed the others to the living room and smiled as Daniel approached. Barbara also waved at him but she also watched hum with fascination. "It's good to meet you too Mister Larusso. Your daughter is a great host. And we'll find out soon if she is also a good cook." Barbara in a manner Chloe was probably getting used to barreled ahead. "I'm hoping to join the Miyagi-do dojo and if I can talk them into it I'll drag Chloe and Dave along too."

Chloe nodded eagerly in agreement with Babs, and held out her hand so Dave could help her out of the bean bag which seemed to be trying to swallow her. "That's why I try to have low expectations of movies. Makes it harder to be disappointed."

Daniel smiled at the compliment Bab's gave about his daughter's hosting abilities, then chuckled lightly about the cooking comment. "Well, I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise." He said, and Sam stuck her tongue out at him before heading for the kitchen.

Daniel nodded at her statement, then laughed at the look her two friends exchanged. "Well, you might have some work cut out for you getting your friends to join." He told her. "But you are always welcome. I run formal classes every weekday from six to seven, and from what Sam tells me you have some training already. What sort of classes have you had?" He asked curiously.
