SAINTS (1x1 w/DarkMukip)

Amaya felt her breath catch in her throat, felt fear and anger build in her chest, desperation overtaking her. “Don’t you fucking touch them!” She managed to snarl at him, trying to kick free from the woman holding her down, but she was too weak. None of the others argued any further with Matsunaga, holding Amaya down before forcing the charcoal down her throat to neutralize the poison in her system. She felt completely hopeless, trying to fight taking the charcoal, but was easily overpowered. “Yukimura won’t let you- you’ll only be going to your slaughter if you face him..!” She spat at Matsunaga.

"I know how to deal with Sanada, don't you worry." He said, his voice hoarse and tired, "Now, settle down before I bring you Sasuke’s corpse first."

Amaya gnashed her teeth, tears dripping from her eyes as she glared death at him, but said nothing else in fear he’d follow through with his promise.

She was hauled off and put in her room, the door locked and barred until Matsunaga had the strength to deal with her.

Akihime had been going to therapy for months, the manipulation Laurent put her through taking the longest to break out of. She was still damaged, Yukimura could see it when he watched her from a safe distance. She jumped at everything, and at night he could hear her crying in her sleep. She suffered from nightmares; Laurent's image shifting from him to Yukimura and Sasuke, hurting her and using her. Though, in the last few weeks they had died down some, they still woke her up screaming. She missed Yukimura, but the thought of being near him frightened her.

Yukimura was never far from Akihime, often spending weeks at a time watching over her; missing meals, not coming home- so long as he could see that she was safe he didn’t care about the rest. He was starting to neglect his leadership duties, leaving it all on Sasuke. He couldn’t think of anything else, the guilt he felt was eating him from the inside, and even still he was powerless to help Akihime. The way she screamed when she saw him still played in his head, hearing her scream over and over, even in his dreams he heard it. It was enough to watch her from afar though, it had to be.

He spent another day just following her around and keeping an eye on her. Akihime was just at a cafe - their cafe - staring down at a mug of matcha with fearful eyes. God, she couldn't even enjoy her favorite tea anymore. It ripped him apart seeing her like this. But she tried, bringing it cautiously to her lips and taking a sip with a wince, both from the warmth and the fear of something else hidden in the drink. She set it down messily, hands shaking, and taking a breath as she cleaned the small spill. It made him sick to his stomach seeing her this way.

Yukimura didn’t care how much it hurt to watch her, he wouldn’t ever take his eyes off of her again. He stayed in his spot across the street, wearing a hooded jacket and sunglasses to disguise his appearance, dark circles under his eyes. He wanted to sit with her, to be able to talk to her and hold her again, but knew it was a selfish desire, and would only make him feel better.

She started to look around, a nervous tick he noticed she had picked up, before her gaze fell on him. She was like a deer caught in headlights, eyes unblinking and her knuckles turning white as she clenched her fists in her lap. How did she know it was him? Was it obvious? Did he mess up his disguise somehow? It didn't matter, the next thing she did startled him a bit more than her catching him did. Her hand raised slowly and she hesitated before giving a very small wave, offering a small and somewhat forced smile despite how petrified she looked.

Yukimura’a breath caught in his throat, taking a step back in preparation to run when her eyes met his. Would she scream again? He stared back, looking just as scared, but forced himself to wave back, heart pounding in his chest.

She glanced at the chair across from her before looking back, grateful he hadn't fled in the time it took her to look away, before reaching slowly to pat the available spot at the table across from her. She looked really scared, but she hadn't screamed yet. And she was offering him to sit with her. Maybe she would be ok...?

Yukimura hesitated before looking both ways, quickly making his way across the street and approaching Akihime. He was careful how he moved once he got closer to Akihime, sitting down slowly and taking his sunglasses off. He was terrified to speak, scared that if he spoke it would trigger her, so he waited for her to speak first.

"You've seen better days..." She teased quietly, rubbing her hands nervously to keep calm, "I suppose you're the shadow I keep jumping at...I'm not surprised...it's very kind of you to keep an eye on me..." She started crying, but he didn't smell any more fear than he did already, "I-I...I missed you...aibou..." She was still so careful not to use his first name.

Yukimura had to grip his leg to stop himself from reaching out and touching her, but offered a sad smile. “Things aren’t the same without you.” He said softly. “But I’m glad you’re getting better.” He looked down at the table. “I’m sorry, I thought I was hiding better than I was..” He was starting to sweat badly himself. “How… Are you doing?”

"Better," she sniffed, drying her eyes, "much better. Mitsunari won't let me out of his sight, but I guess you knew that...I'm being bad right now, my location is off..." She smiled and laughed weakly. She hesitantly rolled her hand palm side up and inched it closer to him. He could hear her heart hammering but she took steady breaths, "How's the family doing...?"

Yukimura felt his heart ache deeply at the sight, and he couldn’t stop himself from taking her hand, squeezing it gently. “We’re managing.” He said, hesitant to share their struggles. “Amaya’s disappearance has become complicated.. But we’ve got things under control.”

She nodded, focusing on his hand and the warmth it radiated, "That's good...I'm sad to hear she's not back but I'm happy everyone is ok..." She said before daring to meet his eyes. It proved too much and she ended up looking away. Baby steps; she didn't release his hand once. "Let me get you a coffee...you haven't been eating, have you...?"

“I’ve been making do.” He said softly, noticing that she could meet his gaze. It didn’t matter though, she was in front of him talking to him once more, that was all that mattered. He carefully rubbed his thumb over the back of her hand, staying where he was. “I’d rather spend more time with you, I can eat when I go home.” When even was the last time he had done that? The hunger didn’t even bother him anymore, all he cared about was seeing to Akihime, making sure she was safe.

“We’ll be waiting for you when you’re ready.” He said softly. “You always have a home with us, Akihime.” He said with a soft smile.

Fresh tears filled her eyes again, but they weren't scared or sad ones, "Thank you so much, Y..." she stopped herself, rolling her eyes at her near mess up, "aibou.."

“You can say my name when I’m not wearing my mask.” He said softly, wanting nothing more than to hear her say his name.

She laughed weakly and shook her head gently, giving his hand a soft squeeze, "Yukimura..." She said quietly, as if still scared someone would hear.

He squeezed her hand gently, heart aching again when she said his name. “I’m here to help you, Akihime, it whatever way I can, whatever it might be.. speak it and I’ll do it.” He said softly.

She blushed and looked at their hands, "I don't want to be scared anymore..." She muttered, "I want to get better...so please come see me some more...ok?"

Yukimura nodded firmly, keeping her hand in his. “Of course, I’ll see you as much as you want from me.” He said, then started to dig around in his pocket with his free hand. “Here.” He placed a phone on the table. “Both Sasuke and I are already in there.”
