from the edge (1x1 w/DarkMudkip)

Kaguya’s eyes widened and she scrambled backward quickly, ignoring the shooting pain in her back as she turned and tried to scramble to her feet to escape.
“Fool, you’re outnumbered!” One of them hissed, the both of them attacking again. They seemed to be sinking in and out of the shadows, using them to travel from in front of Hakaku to behind him in a flash.

Hakaku deflected their attacks easily, a dark smirk on his face.
"That's how I like it." He stated before taking a stance, his hand over the hilt of his blade, "Shadow Breathing, First Form: Crossroad Slash." On his exhale, Hakaku vanished just as the demons reappeared. When looking for him, the demon with the single horn saw that his dual horned companion had lost his head.
"Wh...Wha...!?"
"What was that about being outnumbered?" Hakaku asked in his ear, only to vanish when the demon turned.

The demons red eyes widened in terror as his comrade started to disintegrate. “Stop!! No! Put my head back on!!” The other demon had no such time, quickly diving back into the shadows; what if the second person? There were two humans, and what if his other comrade? He could hear the girl scrambling in the dirt as the third demon caught up to her, but didn’t hear a single thing from the man. He emerged quickly, looking to his remaining companion. “Grab her and let’s go!!” He snapped. “Just put her in the shadows with you, so what if she suffocates!”

"Uh, hai!" The third demon reached for Kaguya, grabbing her leg and tugging her roughly toward him so he could pick her up, only to watch as his hand fell from his wrist. Hakaku moved quickly, eyes cold as he closed the distance. The demon grew his hand back and grabbed Kaguya by her neck, hoisting her up roughly.
"If you don't stop, I'll break her neck!"

Kaguya let out a strangled noise, trying to pry his fingers from around her neck, kicking her feet hard to try and shake herself loose. She couldn’t breathe, feeling like if he squeezed any harder, her head would pop off.
Hakaku felt like a cavern had opened up beneath his feet, a large pool of shadow opening as the first demon shot from the inky darkness to attack Hakaku from behind.

He looked down at the nothingness under his feet and made a noise before using his breathing to manipulate the darkness beneath him; he neither sank or stood, but he certainly wasn't going anywhere. Not yet anyway. The demon holding Kaguya laughed.
"Good. Good! Don't try anything, Slayer! Or she's gets squashed!"

Her face was starting to turn red with how he was holding her, choking her with his iron grip. She clawed at his fingers and kicked out at him, managing to catch him in the gut, even if it wasn’t a hard kick.
The first demon took his chance, reaching into the darkness and pulling out what looked like a blade made of shadow, raising it high to bring it down on Hakaku and cut him in two.

"Shadow Breathing, Second Form: Cursed Ink." Hakaku brought up his blade and with it a large mass of shadow trailed in its wake, blocking the shadow sword as well as taking off the demon's arm. "Third Form: Ceaseless Edge." He turned his blade and swung it in a circle above him, a dark shimmer flowing from the blade and taking the demon's head before he turned and shot toward the demon holding Kaguya. In a panic, it threw the girl at Hakaku, who caught her as carefully as he could before taking his head too.

The only sound now was Kaguya gasping and coughing for air, the two heads of the demons quickly disintegrating on the ground at his feet. Both were unharmed, Kaguya scraped up but alive. “Who were those people..?” She rasped out, clinging to Hakaku, though she really meant to ask what were those people.”

Kaguya didn’t understand, shaking her head. “L-Like yokai?” Was he saying that supernatural creatures existed?

"No. Nothing like fairytales you hear growing up. These are scarier. Worse than some wisp or kitsune." He stated before setting her down, "We're behind on time, we have to keep going."

Kaguya steadied herself with a small wobble when she was set down, looking terrified. “Keep going..?! What if more come?” She asked. So demons were truly a real thing? Then him speaking about being a demon Slayer was not delusion and admittance of crimes- he slayed actual demons. It was all very overwhelming.

Kaguya wished nothing more for the chance to rest, legs still aching and feet sore and tender from stepping on rocks. She nodded with a frown, following him when she felt him grab the rope lead connected to her wrists.

Kaguya collapsed to her hands and knees, her legs like jelly, she had never before walked so far. The sun was bright and hurt her eyes and skin, the bottoms of her feet throbbing in pain, out of breath. She guzzled down the water first, not bothering to answer her captor as she did so.

He had little other options, taking a carriage would leave them even more exposed, forcing them onto the main roadways instead of using smaller paths. Kaguya glanced at him as she ate the great he had given her, feeling self conscious as he did. “Where are we going?” She asked quietly through a mouthful of bread, hating how he scowled down at her.

“We?” She echoed, stuffing the rest of the bread into her mouth, stomach twisting into knots of the idea of him questioning her again.

Kaguya hadn’t expected to start moving again so quickly, scrambling to her feet to follow again, knowing he’d yank her by her ropes if he had to. “How many more?”

Kaguya was sure such information would be valuable to Douma, to the police, to anyone once she returned- if she returned.
“You don’t know how many of you there are..?” She sounded incredulous, brows furrowing.
