Adventures in Babysitting [JMontvale and I]

Red let his fingers caress Allie's when she handed the can to him. He laughed musically at Allie's comment about cooties.
"When I first started school, I thought cooties were real, like some sort of scary invisible monsters, but then I was told it was just a cruel game some boys played." His happy emerald eyes looked into Allie's.

Silvanus took a small sip of the cola. The sweet taste tingled on his tongue. The slight buzz followed almost instantly, but the elf was sure that if he took slow, small sips, he wouldn't get too drunk.

The elf followed his lovely babysitter to the stairs, and it occurred to him that he didn't know where his parents wanted Allie to sleep. Then, he remembered the note. He hadn't had time to read it all, since he had been in a hurry to let Allie in.

Red found the note on the table by the sofa. He looked at it, and found a few last minuted instructions at the bottom. Red's cheeks went rosy again, and not because of the sugar coursing through his body.

"They do," he said with surprise. "They actually want you to sleep in my room." The young elf didn't know how to react. On one hand, it was embarrassing for him to be treated like a small child, and he suspected Allie would be upset too. On the other hand, Silvanus' slightly buzzed brain thought having the lovely Allie sleeping in his room would be wonderful... especially if he could get her to share his bed.

Allie watched Red savor the sugary drink with a smile and she laughed softly at his story, "Don't worry, when I was younger I thought they were real too. It was a pretty good ruse for why little girls and boys won't play with each other." She glanced back at him as they made it up the stairs and followed him to the couch and she paused at the information, "W-what?"

She looked a little more than floored before took a deep breath and smiled, "Okay, we can do this. I'm sure it's there is some extra bedding around, so I can always sleep on the floor. Um..." She paused and tried to figure out how to word this before she shook her head, "Nothing." Her cheeks were flaming bright as she tried to figure out how this situation could be less embarrassing. Why did one of her best clients have to recommend her? Without telling Silvanus' parents that she was a teen herself?

She glanced at Red from under her eyelashes and tried to consider how this could get worse and thankfully came up with a multitude of ideas. One of which was that he could have been super traditionalist and been offended by the sheer notion that a human would be allowed to watch over him, and the second was that that traditionalist (fey or otherwise) would find out she was babysitting him and storm the place. She gave a little smile, "But if it makes you too uncomfortable, I can sleep downstairs on the couch...?"

It took a moment for Red to get his thoughts moving, and he began to regret partaking of the soda.

"No, it would be inhospitable to make you sleep on the couch, or the floor," The elf decided with a slightly exaggerated nod. "I will sleep on the floor, and you can have my bed. That way, I can obey my parents' instructions and be a good host."

Red started up the stairs and absently took another sip of drink. Though the taste was wonderful, it muddled his mind again just as it was starting to clear.

"We can get the cards, and I can make a place on the floor for me to sheep... er... sleep."

Red's room was neater than most those of most human teenagers, though he had left two shirts laying on his bed when he hurried downstairs. The bed was quite large, about equal to a king size, but shaped like a shallow basket woven from tree branches. The 'mattress' was made of moss. The entire bed was infused with life magic, making it almost a living thing that could be warm or cool as needed and was self cleaning, making the chore of keeping his room neat easier.

Posters of Red's favorite musicians covered the walls. Silvanus walked to his dresser, and took the cards form one of it's drawers.

"I'm sorry about the... mess," Red said as he put the shirts in his closet.

Allie frowned as he stumbled on his words before she shook her head and glanced at the bed and sighed, "I can't make you sleep on the floor, it's your room. The bed..." She nibbled on her bottom lip and placed at hand on her hip as she thought it out, "The bed is big enough for two...If just stay on opposite sides, it will be all right. That way it's not unfair to either of us. And we'll be listening to your parents."

"If you think you're room is messy, I think you don't need another sip of that cola, Red," she gently rebuked. It was by far one of the cleanest rooms she has seen from a guy (with the exception of Nat, who was OCD). She watched him put away his shirts and hesitantly sat down on the edge of his bed as she glanced down at the watch around her wrist, it was about another twenty or so minutes before their dinner was going to be delivered. She partly wondered if there were going to be anymore surprises and without thinking she voiced one out softly, "I really hope your parents crossed the line at me giving you a bath...because yeah, that rule we'd have to break."

Red looked at Allie, the heat of desire sneaking past his weakened inhibitions to find its way into his gaze when she suggested they share his bed.

I would like do to... to do that." Red took a larger gulp of soda than he had intended, the buzz suddenly roaring in his head. "Oof," he said as his face flushed and his eyes crossed. He had enough presence of mind to sit the remaining drink aside. "More sugar than in the... the soda used I'm to," he slurred. "Oh... is it hot in here?" One of his hands fumbled as it unbuttoned Red's shirt.

Silvanus missed the compliment as he tried to get his mind to focus, but he heard the comment about bathing. He started to laugh, but it turned into a silly giggle that the elf had a hard time reigning in. "Let me sit down... for a.. shec... second," he said before he plopped down on the bed. "Just let my head...clear."

Allie winced as Red took an even larger swallow of the cola and shook her head as his speech slurred. She shook her head when he dropped on the bed, and she leaned over him to fix his shirt and shook her head, "It's not hot in here Red, I really think now I shouldn't let you drink that..."

The red-headed human sighed as she stood up and took the empty cola can from his hands with a bit of a frown, "So no more of this for you...I'm just glad I didn't give you chocolate or something now." She glanced at him and gave him a slight smile, "How about you just lie down for a bit rather than sit? I'll bring up the tea and you can just...ah...rest until your head gets cleared up okay?"

She fidgeted and glanced at her watch again, the food would be there any minute and she couldn't go to the door with a drunk, or what appeared to be, drunk elf on her hands. She nibbled on her full bottom lip in a nervous gesture as she tried to figure out what she should do. She couldn't very well leave him up there for any longer than a minute, even though he was just tipsy-ish at the moment she didn't want to run the risk of him getting her. Not only would his parents be angry at her, she'd probably plastered around as a fey-folk hater.

"Red, sweetie," she winced as the soft endearment dropped from her lips, she always used that when she was working with children, "How long does this usually last?"

When Allie rebuttoned Red's shirt, her fingers pushed past the fabric to brush against the skin of his chest. He was slightly ticklish, and the light touch of her fingers made him giggle a little.

"No... no more cola," Red said. "Thank you, but too seat... er sweet" He tried to focus his eyes on Allie's face, and his mind on her words. "Tea? Yes, tea w-would be helpul... helpful." He clumsily tapped the side of his head. "Clear my head qui...qui... faster." Red sat his hand on Allie's forearm and nodded to show he understood.

"I'll stay right here, Allie," he promised. "Been sugar drunk before... know to stay put... rest." He smiled and impulsively kissed Allie on the cheek. "You're very beautiful," he said, not knowing he'd said it out loud. "And very nice." He tapped the bed. "I'll stay right here. Buzz won't lasht... er... last long. Just need to not have anymore sugar right now." The elf stroked Allie's hair for a moment as he looked into her eyes. "I'll lie down," he said. Then, he flopped back on his bed.

Allie smiled a little at his giggles, though she froze slightly at the gentle kiss against her cheek and the compliments he paid her. She smiled at him and leaned into his gentle touch until he pulled away and she laughed softly at him before she patted his shoulder gently, "All right, I'll be right back with the tea, okay?"

She hesitated before she leaned down at pressed a kiss to his forehead gently, "Sorry for getting you sugar drunk, Red." Her long pale fingers lightly brushed some of his hair off his forehead before she turned and left the room, humming softly as she thought of all of the ways she had helped her friends in the past when they had gotten drunk. She figured it would be over quicker since sugar highs usually were quick and brutal, all she had to do was make sure he was comfortable. She walked into the kitchen and took the brewed tea off the stove and rummaged around until she found two cups and poured a generous amount into each of the mugs.

She closed her eyes and inhaled the fragrance of the minty tea and exhaled slowly, letting it surround her mind for a moment before she shook it off and started to head back up stairs. One mug grasped in each hand as she balanced them precariously and watched the liquid try to leap off the rim of the cup. She kept her eyes on the mugs as she entered Silvanus' room and spoke in the general direction of his bed, "Okay, there a little full so you might want to wait for it to cool off so you don't burn yourself, okay?"

"Too warm..." Silvanus mumbled shortly after Allie left for the tea. His body was processing the sugar rapidly, making him sugar drunk, but also producing a bit of heat. The elf unbuttoned his shirt again and opened it wide, using the fabric to fan himself for a moment before going back to lying still, his shirt still wide open.

He smiled a little at the memory of Allie's soft lips on his forehead and her gentle fingers brushing his red hair back. Silvanus' sugar clouded mind imagined kissing those lovely lips. His arms wanted to hold her. His hands wanted to caress and explore her body.

Silvanus smelled the delightful aroma of his favorite tea. Then he heard Allie's voice.

"Okay," he sighed, not moving." Just sit it on the night stand, peas... uh... please." Silvanus was starting to recover, and had enough sense to wince at how foolish his slurred words sounded. Not a good way to impress a beautiful woman, he thought dreamily.

She nodded, "All right." She glanced up and paused at the sight of the slightly flushed elf laid out on the bed with his shirt unbuttoned. He, she tried to note objectively, had a nicely toned body. Though, the objective part flew out of the window as she let her eyes linger for a very moments too long and she shook her head. Bad thoughts, she bemoaned to herself, and chastised her hormones for making her look at her charge in such a manner. True they were both teenagers, but really! She set his cup down on the nightstand and hesitated before she sat down.

She leaned over slightly to put a hand against his forehead and frowned a little, "You're really warm, Red, is that normal?" She held her cup of tea out of the way of his body as she leaned down to check on him, careful not to spill any. She was reminded of the myth of Eros and his wife, who thought him a monster at the jealous accusations of her sisters and burned the nubile young god with wax. She would be careful not to repeat the mistake.

The sighed as the doorbell rang and glanced down at him, "Hey, I'm going to grab the food and I'll be right back. Don't do anything while I'm gone, okay?"

"Normal to be a little warm," he sighed with her hand on his forehead. "Body warms up from proshess... using sugar." He reached up and caressed the back of Allie's hand. "Allie, my sweet babysitter and nurse." Silvanus opened his bright green eyes to look dreamily up at the lovely young woman. "You wanna check my heartbeat next?" The elf blushed after saying that. He was on the way to recovery, and his mind was clear enough to realize how forward that had sounded.

Red wanted to apologize, but his brain couldn't seem to produce the right words. Then, the bell rang and momentarily rescued the teenage elf from the foot he was certain he'd just jammed into his mouth.

"Um... yes," he said. "Food would be good. I should have been smart enough to not take sugar on an empty stomach."

Allie was quite thankful for the bell too, the phrase 'saved by the bell' rang gleefully in her mind as she left the room and opened the front door. The young man whistled low when he saw her but she paid him no mind as she pulled the exact amount of money for the food and handed it over to him without a word. Her mind was a little too occupied with Red's words that could be easily be misconstrued as flirtatious. She closed the door but not before she heard the young man mutter, "Great, just another one of those fey junkies."

She frowned slightly and the redhead shook her head; fey junkie was a term given to people who gravitated towards the fey-folk for relationships. Usually it was used by the less open-minded who believed that humans should date humans, and elves should stick with elves. She mumbled quietly to herself, "Is there an equal word to that in fey culture?"

She started to walk back up the stairs after she checked the take-out, and smiled at the plastic forks and spoons in there. There wouldn't be any dishes but the mugs for her to do later, "Well, the food is here, Red. It will probably help, right?"

Silvanus sat up after Allie was gone. He took several sips of tea, the familiar, minty flavor most welcome. The elf thought about the shameful way he had been acting toward Allie, and frowned. Keep it up, and she'll think you're a faerie knight, Red thought angrily at himself.

In less enlightened times, faerie knights and ladies were the fae folk who placed glamours on mortals and seduced them. In modern times, doing so was legally the same as drugging someone to rape them. Of course, among some of the more hidebound fae, any of the folk who had a relationship with a mortal was called a faerie knight or lady. They were assumed to be taking advantage of their human partner, even if they weren't. Worse, there were some fae who called such couples drast ir saljani. In English, the term translated to "polluters of the blood" though it lost much in the translation. In Elvish, it was an especially hateful curse.

Silvanus set his tea down when he heard Allie coming back up the stairs. He hurried to button his shirt back up and hastily tuck it back in.

"Yes, food will help." He sniffed softly, the unfamiliar but savory smells of the curry preceding Allie. "It smells wonderful." When Allie came into the room, Red bowed his head.

"I am sorry if my behavior offended you. I know I was sugar drunk, but that is no excuse. I have no right to let my attraction... um... I... I should not have acted the way I did."

Allie gave a little shrug as she sat down cross-legged next to him and carefully took out the food from the bag, before laying the bag on top of the bed and places of the food on the bag. She gave him a little smile, "What you said to me was mild to some of the stuff I've heard from drunk people. Don't worry about it, Red. Though any nurse comments again and we'll have some troubles, kay?"

She did notice he had redressed himself and made a strong attempt to look presentable in front of her. It was sweet, and made it all that easier to brush off what he said earlier. It wasn't as if his words hadn't made her heart skip a quick beat, it was more that she wasn't used to hearing those words from anyone. All of her friends treated her as more of a parental figure than an actual friend, relying on her with all of their problems so often that they tended to forget that she had her own problems and desires.

She reached over and pat his hand, "But at least I know that I can't give you cola any more...that just wasn't good." She handed him a fork and a spoon and one of the boxes of take-out before she started on her own with a soft moan of joy as the first bite of curry touched her tongue. She grinned sheepishly, "Sorry, it's really, really good."

"Yes... It was a stupid thing to say," Silvanus agreed. "Your hand on my head, looking for a fever just reminded me of the nurse at my elementary school." Oh, that really makes it better! Red chided himself. I should just be quiet.

Silvanus nodded in absolute agreement with Allie. He would have to avoid the sweet cola.

"Your brand of cola had a stronger effect on me than I'm used to. It made me forget myself. I know that many humans are offended by the showing of too much flesh. I should not have opened my shirt like I did."

Red took a bite of his curry. He smiled at how wonderfully spicy and delicious it was. Then, Allie moaned. For a brief instant, Silvanus wondered if Allie would moan like that if they made love. The thought, and Allie's moan brought another rosy blush to the Elf's cheeks.

"It is very good," Red answered. He tried very hard to not imagine Allie naked under him, moaning as he entered her. "Thank you for introducing me to a wonderful new food."

Allie raised both of her eyebrows in surprise that he equated her with the school nurse when he was a little kid. She mumbled around her fork as she said, "That's all right." At least that added credence to what she thought earlier, that it was just the drinking that had caused him to be so affectionate towards her. She pulled the fork out of her mouth and smiled at his red face, "Are you okay? It's not too hot is it?"

She shrugged slightly, "About the shirt, don't worry about it. Mostly it's the older generation that has problems with it...and it's not like I haven't seen a guys naked chest before, Red, promise." She takes another bite of her dinner before she reaches down to pick up her mug of tea from the ground beside the bed. She took a small sip, "Mmmm...this is really good!"

Hesitantly, she asked, "Though...why are you blushing so much?"

"No, the food is perfect," Red assured Allie, though being caught blushing only made it harder not to blush.

"Oh?" he said with a mixture of relief and disappointment. He was relieved that his bare chest hadn't offended Allie, but when she spoke of seeing a guy's body before, he suspected she meant her boyfriend's. Of course she has a boyfriend, Red thought. She's so nice, not to mention beautiful, she could have her pick of a thousand lovers.

Despite Allie's assurance that seeing a guy's chest wasn't a big deal, Red knew that humans weren't as casual about nudity as many of the fae folk were. Allie might be something of an exception, but Red didn't want to assume that was the case.

Then, she asked Silvanus why he was blushing. He was trapped! A lie was out of the question, but the truth could easily offend her. He would have to be careful.

"I..." Red began. He paused. Simply saying I'm attracted to you would not be wise. "I still feel a little embarrassment over the way I acted," Silvanus began. "It is true that I feel attraction for you," he hoped saying that part fast would lessen the impact. "but that doesn't give me the right to speak to you in such a way. I don't mean to offend you. I know you must already have a boyfriend. I will try to keep from putting a foot in my mouth again."

Allie almost choked on her next mouthful before she started coughing and shook her head, "B-boyfriend? Wow...um...no. No, no, no. I don't have a boyfriend, where on earth would you get that?" She set down her fork and took a deep breath, "I'm not offended by seeing a guy's chest because I'm the manager for the boy's swim team. If I had a problem with nudity, it would be with them...I mean, really...speedos, need I continue?"

Her cheeks retained a soft red hue of embarrassment as she thought of his words--he was attracted to her! To her, to "too tall, too red-headed, too loud, too mothering Allie" it gave her a warm feeling in the region of her heart and she just looked down at her food with a little smile. She glanced up at him, "Though, don't feel too embarrassed...one of my friends, he got really wasted on night. I mean, he could even tell you up from down...he woke up in his gay friend's bed with friend. And this was after professing his undying love for half of our friends, and inviting everyone and the lamp in the living on a nude skydiving trip...off the roof."

She shrugged, "So, I don't think you really have much to apologize for really, Red."

Red laughed a musical, elvish laugh at the story of Allie's unfortunate friend, his eyes sparkling like gemstones with mirth.

"Oh, I'm glad that no one went skydiving from the roof," Silvanus said. "I hope he wasn't too embarrassed when he recovered. I know a few who would have thought it a night well spent, but humans are not so... reckless as some of my kin."

"You don't have a boyfriend?" Silvanus asked when he was finally done laughing. "But surely all these boys on the swim team must wish to date you? You're nice, and funny, and you're so beautiful..." Red blushed again. He quickly stuffed curry into his mouth to keep from saying more.

She shook her head, "No...we went skydiving from the roof into the pool..." Her face was twisted into good humor as she tried not to laugh at her friend's misfortune, "And that was why Dave, my friend, ended up in Greg's bed...and Greg happened to take advantage of the situation since Dave was agreeing to everything that night." She paused and tilted her head to the side, "That's a night well-spent at a Fae party? Wow...remind me not to let you throw a party while I babysit you."

She shook her head and blushed as he brought up all of the reasons, except for being beautiful, why no one wanted to date her, "Well...the guys on the swim team aren't interested in me...I don't fit their type. Besides, I'm in charge of them a lot, so..." She gave a shrug, "But um...yeah, I'm too mothering for the guys at my school really. So no boyfriend or girlfriend," she added as she thought about it for a moment, "But what about you? Or...are you too young to date?"

Silvanus smiled. The subject had changed to one he felt safer speaking about.

"Not all fae would like such a party, but yes, satyrs would surely enjoy such a party. Especially the waking up in a friend's bed. Some of the frost elves of the northern countries throw very wild parties as well. I know of one who says "It is not a good party if you can remember it all in the morning." Red took another bite of food and a sip of tea. His face alight with the joy of sharing what he knew with Allie.

"This is different with elves than with humans," Red said. "Humans do not wish their children to take lovers until they are adults, yes? Because of chances of disease and accidental pregnancy?" A couple of hours earlier, Silvanus had been very reluctant to discuss Human sexual health with Allie, but now it seemed safer than talking about his feelings for her. "Elves do not catch these diseases and we are not very fertile, so the chance of accidental pregnancy is nearly non-existent, so Elf parents allow and sometimes encourage their children to... explore their feelings." Red frowned a little. "Though I think my parents wish otherwise, I have not found a girlfriend or boyfriend." He looked once more into Allie's eyes. He wanted to tell her that he hadn't been so attracted to anyone before as he was to her, but Silvanus didn't wish to offend her.

"Wow," she said with a with a surprised laugh, "I never knew that Fae were so...well...rambunctious when they partied." She made a little bit of a face and shook her head, "Those frost elves must have livers of steel. Blegh..." She took another bite of her food and nodded to his assessment of human culture.

"That's part of it," she mulled over the answer for a moment before she continued, "Culturally we don't believe a person is mature enough to have sex until they are 18 or older, because there is the chance they will get pregnant, or share diseases and things like that." She frowned, "And then there are some who think it is a sin to have sex before marriage. I don't know why, it really never made much sense to me."

Allie looked surprised, "They treat you like a little kid in some respects but you get to, how did you put it, oh, explore your feelings? Seriously? Wow..."

"Culturally and biologically, it is different for us than for humans," Red replied. "Many elf parents, like mine, are fearful of us being injured or killed while we are young, but without the diseases, there is less danger from sex."

Silvanus began to blush again, but he wanted to help his new friend understand.

"Sex is often seen as a more casual thing, like something two friends might share without the strong emotional connection that humans would have." His expression became solemn. "Not all elves feel that way. I have never been able to think of... making love as something so casual." His hand touched Allie's though he wasn't really conscious of it doing so. "When I make love for the first time, I want it to mean more than just a way to pass the time with a friend. I want to like my parents. What is the word? Monogamous? I want it to be important enough that we will be monogamous"

Red moved his hand back when he realized he had been touching Allie.

Allie flushed as his words seem to be spoken to her, about them. She swallowed hard as he let go of her hand and she gave a little laugh and glanced to the side, "Well...that's sweet of you." Her cheeks remained red as she fumbled with her fork and tried to think of a way to steer this conversation into safer grounds, but nothing was coming up in her frazzled mind. Why couldn't she have just kept her mouth closed bout Dave's story?

The redheaded human took a deep breath before she shook her head, "Well...it looks like we started on your health homework without meaning to, y'know?" She gave a rueful grin before she sighed softly, "But really, we're pretty different aren't we?" She leaned back on her hands as she stared at him, taking in his appearance again. Compared to most of the guys she knew, he was a little lither and seemed for flexible as well as reserved, his pointed ears were cute, and his eyes were...amazing. She had seen green eyes in the human world, but his were almost green like emeralds but brighter and softer.

She glanced down before she grabbed her mug again and took a sip of the cooled mint green tea as she considered what they were going to do, "So...did your parents say anything else in that note? Because I was sort of being serious when I asked my other question when you were drunk...They aren't afraid you are going to drown in the bathtub are they?"

((Nope, just took me a little while to respond, sorry!))
