Nothing is Coincidence(Zalvek+Anjeru)

Orguss' was surprised by Suriel's comments, although the actual information did not phase him. He was well aware of where the shot was going to come from, along with the other three that would follow. One to the right, 60 degrees up. another from behind at 50 degrees, and then the final one, above him coming straight down. All of the shots left beautiful sparks sizzling through the air, and the bullets seemed to vanish once struck. After the five rounds, there was silence in the forest, before the shuffled of leaves was heard, and a hooded figure leaped gracefully down to the ground behind them. The figure chuckled softly before lifting the hood, revealing a similar pair of red goggles that Orguss wore. "Your fourth shot was sloppy! You're lucky I didn't shoot you in the head where you stood." Orguss sighed and shook his head at the familiar sight. "I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I've been too busy on the field. Fighting a war." The other figure chuckled and patted him on the shoulder. "Fair enough. Now, let's get you to the outpost..." He began to walk, and Orguss followed, beckoning Suriel to do likewise.

So it had been someone from the outpost, she mused as she pushed herself forward to follow him and their new companion. The three of them moved forward and Suriel kept more to towards the back, contemplating. She was picking up a sense of other's moving forward besides the three of them; she sensed two bodies following a good 30 or so feet behind them, in the forest's concealing cover. She knew Orguss or his companion couldn't, or hadn't, felt the followers as she had. Little did she know that those following them, had Blockers that prevented Orguss' equipment from sensing them all together.

In silence, she continued to follow, her mind distracted; debating whether those who followed were other companions of his, or indeed the enemy.

Orguss was glad to finally be in the hands of good company. The other figure seemed to be rather relaxed, but he knew better. This man was by far the best shot that they had in his unit, and could have easily shot a bear between the eyes while drunk. The man slung his rifle back over his shoulder, while the other whistled softly, which came out more as a demonic humming while twirling the small handgun between his fingers idly as they headed for the entrance.

Suriel noticed that Orguss' stance as they walked seemed more relaxed now. By that alone, she knew that their companion meant them no harm. She was surprised though that the other man hadn't asked about her at all; she recalled, however, that he had told someone about her- whoever he had been talking to over his com earlier that day. Yes, she had been in the cave, but she had heard, without meaning to, every word of the conversation from both ends. It didn't frighten her, because to her it would seem like a normal ability since she could not recall anything from before she'd woken in the cave to find herself in Orguss' company.

Suriel stopped her thoughts for a moment, realizing she was getting off track; she needed to figure out what to do about the others following them. Orguss' didn't seem to notice them and neither did his friend; that was odd to her. From her basic instinctial conceptions, she figured those of a military persuasion would have sensed the followers before her, a simple civilian...well, for all they knew she was a civilian. However, she was starting to realize she was a bit different. She was picking up on things she shouldn't, she was having black-outs in which Orguss' seemed concerned but impressed at the same time.

"Orguss...we're being followed." She said softly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The general raised her hand to signal a stop. "Orguss...we're being followed." She'd picked up the girl's words with her com, and cursed silently to herself. Her men moved to sheild themselves in the brush, and the general did the same. Apparently the Blockers hadn't done their jobs and provided them cover as they should have.
Or had they?
The Blocker provided them cover from the enemy's equipment, from the technology aspects of their person. This girl they were hunting...she didn't have any equipment on her, so she must have sensed them with a different method. After all, she was their target and the leader of the Rebel Movement Alliance wouldn't send them after someone who wasn't extraordinary in one way or another.
Fall back.
She signaled that to her men and they dropped back a bit, using the cover and Blockers to their advantage. The girl may be able to detect them, but her companions wouldn't.
At least for now.
The idea of getting into the outpost was possibly one of the most assuring things that Orguss could ever think of. Finally, being able to rest in a slightly warm bed, food that didn’t have artificial enhancements and preservatives; it was amazing how simple things that everyday people had transformed into luxuries when one lived the life of a soldier.
When he thought about it in that manner, he certainly was jealous of his comrade slightly. All he did at all times was sit in those trees, and watch for rebellion soldiers. Still, he wouldn’t have personally ever have been able to stay in those trees like that. No, he was the sort of man who needed to get up and move in order to live. That was why he was a part of the infantry squadron after all.
Orguss’ ears perked when he heard the words that came from behind him. The same twitch and sensation filled his comrade as well. Without so much as even a word he placed a hand on the girls shoulder before pushing her back away and behind him immediately. With the press of a button on the side of his temple, he scanned and analyzed the nearby area. Heat signatures, infrared, night vision, none of it offered any sight of an enemy, or even a person at all. Even still though he remained every vigilant and poised in his current stature if in fact she was right.
And yet even so the minutes seemed to pass by. How long they stood there waiting for the enemy to make the first move was unknown; all that was known however was that they were no longer there. The other soldier finally moved and shifted his gaze to Orguss. Through the suits the two were still able to understand each other. Not because of a special ability offered by the armor but instead, simple understanding after having been on the battlefield together. Slowly he pulled his gun down, and placed it back in the holster, no longer seeing it safe to idly twirl it in his hand. Orguss did the same, and slung his rifle back over his shoulder. The other soldier was the first to speak.
“Any idea what that was?”
“No, can’t say I do.”
“Well it’s not safe to stay here anymore, we need to head back to the outpost immediately.”
“Agreed. Let’s hurry it up then until we reach it…”
Although they never mention it, through their gaze they were both asking and wondering the answer to the same questions. Were they still being followed? Did Suriel really see or hear someone? And more in particular, what was there to know about this girl that made her see or at least hallucinate soldiers which were never even there…?
She hadn't been hallucinating, nor was she hallucinating. The soldiers were really there, but since Orguss couldn't pick them up on his equipment, he was doubting that they were even there. Suriel frowned, trying to figure out how to get them to listen to her and to actually believe her that they were being followed. Her eyebrows crunched and she placed her hand on Orguss' arm, looking up at him.
"There is someone following us, Orguss," she said. "I'm not making this up. I can...feel them."
Almost on cue, a rustle 30 feet back caught her attention. There was a no movement visible through the men's equipment, but Suriel seemed so sure that there was someone there.
Suriel lowered her voice, speaking again, "There are four of them, Orguss'. They are like you. They know the ways of weapons and are here for something specific. I can tell by the insistant way that they're following us."
Of course Orguss would have liked to believe her. Yet at the same time, she was just a girl, and they were professional soldiers. When it came down to it, they were the ones protecting her and they knew what was best for her better than she did right now. All he did was nod and put a hand on her shoulder comfortingly before he looked over towards his partner. The figure nodded before getting his rifle and gripping onto it firmly.
“I’ll go ahead and check the area. When you reach the outpost let them know that we need two or three more scouts in this area, understood?”
“Understood, we’ll have help on its way immediately.”
With a final wave, they two groups went their separate ways. Orguss held her by the hand and moved quickly, doing his best to reach the outpost as soon as possible. If she was right, then they would be caught off guard by these intruders…
The Rebel general's lips would pull back into an angry scowl of annoyance as her eyes watched her prey, Suriel, sprint off with Orguss, the Federation soldier who had just lucked out in finding the girl first. Little did he know who he was protecting, she mused. She signaled her men to part ways, one with her, two to stall Orguss' friend, the other soldier that had come to meet them. She wanted to go after the girl herself.
She fidgeted with her Blocker for a moment to make sure it was in perfect working order, then chanted silently to herself. A faint spell to make her steps silent; something that went perfectly along with her Blocker. She would be a silent enemy to everyone but the girl and she had a plan to get around the girl's senses.
Her and her team parted ways. She began to head off into the darkness in a quick sprint, while pulling a small, thin bamboo pipe from her pouch. She popped in a dart and as Suriel came into view, she put her mouth to the tube, aimed, and blew out hard. The dart shot out and planted itself firmly into the back of Suriel's neck, and, after mere seconds, Suriel cried out and fell limply to the ground. The general halted herself and waited for Orguss to attend to the girl before making her move. He wouldn't sense her at all, nor hear her, so as soon as he turned to look at the girl, the general was out, swinging her large, heavy-handed sword down on Orguss' head. Not enough to hurt him, but enough strength to cause his helmet to break and him to falter.
"I want the girl," she said simply as he regained his senses. She brought the sword down to her side and prepared herself to launch forward again if he denied her.
They were almost at the entrance of the outpost when suddenly the girl fell without a word. Immediately Orguss rushed to her attention only to see the dart sticking out of her neck. His body turned around to check in all directions of the forest where they could have come from. The girl was right after all, there were rebels surrounding themâ?¦
Before he could respond readily, a large thud hit him across the head and flung him down to the forest ground. He let out a grunt before everything went black. It took him about a minute but he soon was awake and aware of how bad his situation was. He swore to himself in his helmet, knowing she would be ready to strike at any moment. This was a particularly bad situation, considering all that he had on him was a single combat knife. But perhaps if he managed to hold her offâ?¦
Without a word, he moved his hunched body and his leg splayed out to trip her in her poised stance. During her temporary distraction, his left hand moved to his beltâ??s side to pull out the 6 inch knife, and kept in his right hand at his rifleâ??s side, hand on the trigger, with his thumb flipped over a small switch while waiting for the ideal moment. Before she could respond to him he rushed forward, knife behind him, ready to slash when in the proper proximity.
This soldier wasn't going to listen to her, she could see that as he came at her not a moment after she'd spoken. Her lips curled into a snarl. "Really, you should save yourself the trouble and just give me the girl," she snapped out the words, back peddling a couple feet, "she is nothing but a stranger to you. Clearly it's not worth such a hassle, aye?" Even though she formed it as a question she didn't really expect Orguss to answer her. Oddly enough, she wasn't expecting him to hand over Suriel easily either, despite the fact that he knew nothing of the girl and her past.
"I will not be leaving without her," she growled out, and swung her heavy blade in an arc with a surprising amount of ease. "Just hand her over to me, Federation Dog, and this is as far as it will have to go. She is of no use to you, and I have my orders; Like you, I do my best to achieve my orders at all costs and by any means necessary."
A sly smile.
"And I would rather not kill you. Mm, not today at least."
Her eyes danced briefly to Suriel's unconscious form, but only briefly, too make sure the stunning agent's effect was still working on her; she wasn't going to put anything past the girl. She was told the girl was unpredictable and the last thing she needed was to be caught off gaurd. On that thought, her eyes came back to rest on Orguss.
"Please. Just the girl."
â??Like hellâ?¦ That will ever happenâ?¦!â? Not only as a soldier, but as a man, he would protect this girl from harms way no matter what, especially from a damned rebel soldier like her. With relative ease, he was able to dodge her large blade. The sheer size of it made it a very large target, easily dodged on his part. Not the best weapon choice when it came to almost melee-ranged close combat.
For a moment he was confused at her words, wondering just why she wouldnâ??t want to kill him just yet. Even so, that did not concern him at all as he rushed forward once more to slice this time at her forearms. All he needed to do was keep her distracted for just a few more momentsâ?¦
Perhaps it was unnecessary, but Orguss refused to take any risks under his current predicament, as he took his rifle still in his right hand and aimed it at the ground and shot. However the sounds of bullets were not heard, instead a soft thunk hit the ground, a flash grenade. Thankfully his helmet was able to adjust to light quickly and he remained unaffected by it. She however, would be left exposed to the blinding light.
"You sunuva--!" she growled out the words as the flash went off, stinging her eyes with such an intense light that she was left temporarily blinded. She stumbed back. Damnit! She wasn't a cold blooded killer but that soldier was quickly getting on her nerves. She didn't want to kill him unless she had to and it was beginning to look like she had to, if she wanted to complete her task and escape with the girl he was escorting. "You're making a huge mistake!" she yelled at, trying to swing at whatever she could assume was him, but she couldn't see crap.
Shit!
The girl was going to get away! All because she'd let her guard down. Most people wouldn't have bothered to go to such lengths to protect a strange girl they didn't know, but he seemed damned determined to do just that. By the looks of her current predicament, she would have to withdraw and return with her men.
Judging be her reaction, the grenade was something she didn’t expect at all. Excellent, that meant he had a few moments to respond and do what he could to get away. His head swerved to find the girl unconscious near by as he picked her up and slung her quickly over his shoulder. He never bothered responding to the soldier and hurried his way out of the blinding light, hurrying towards the outpost before anyone could follow his trace.
< Short. x.x Sorries. >
The general snapped out, "I'll be back! And I will be leaving with the girl!" before she turned and bolted back off into the words. She grabbed up her walkie-talkie and began spouting off words that Ogruss wouldn't be able to make out. However, he was probably more thaqn adept in the thinking process that he knew what she was doing - calling her men together to attack them again.
Suriel's upper body swayed in time with Orguss' run. She was beginning to regain a bit of awareness as the paralyzing agent began to wear off. She wouldn't be conscious for a little while yet, though.
[S'ok ^^]
He was going to have to move fast. Thankfully though, his comrade was already more than well aware of the rebel forces in the area. The man stood up in the trees, his rifle aimed carefully at the soldiers. Bam, and another one was dead. That made eight, with who knows how was were left. Even so, he would do what he could to lower their numbers as much as possible. His eyes peered over when he saw that Orguss was already running towards the outpost. At the very least he could make the assumption that they were almost all be coming from behind after him. With a sly smirk he set up his rifle once more, aiming his scope at all targets that got near him...
Orguss panted, feeling all of the running to be even tasking on someone as fit as him. He heard the girl stir though, and it served as a reminder to keep moving, since her life was at stake. There was no way he would ever let those soldiers get to her first...
The rebel general watched as Orguss' companion made fast prey out of her reinforcements. It made her angry, but she couldn't expect the grunts to do well against experienced soldiers. That was these two men for sure and their experience was going to cause troubles for her on a high scale. It wouldn't matter in the long run, as long as she got Suriel back to the rebel leader. It was the only order she was given and it would see it through regardless of the sacrifices. Her eyes narrowed as she saw Orguss run into the Federation's outpost. "Fall back," she said into the walkie talkie and instantly the forces following the pair dropped back into the cover of the woods. "We'll consult and return at a later time. The girl isn't going to go anywhere," she said as they regrouped, "however, I want 3 bodies watching the outpost at all times and to update me on any changes to the girl's condition or whereabouts."
With that, the soldiers all disappeared from sight of the outpost with the General in the lead. It was clear there was something conspiring against Suriel's well being.
What the rebel army had in soldiers, the Federation easily made up for in skill and precision. Only a part of that came from the suits, but the rest was years of practice and training. Soon the two of them reached the entrance to the outpost which was cleverly disguised by trees and debris. As he cleared it away, it was soon impossible to tell that there was ever an entrance there. Once inside, Orguss hurried to set Suriel down on a nearby bed set up by the medic for patients. Hopefully the dart didn't have any other effects on her. Although he hated the idea of leaving her here, he needed to report to his commanding officer, and hurried to do it quickly before the girl awoke.
Suriel was dreaming of a place that held no meaning to her and of a time she could not recall. She was kneeling beside a grave stone marked with name she could not see, the grave stone of a person she felt she knew but did not know. Even though she was dreaming, she felt as if she'd actually been here, had actually done this; mourning over the grave of a loved one. Tears were dripping from her chin to splash onto her clenched hands. Behind those tears, behind the pain, was anger. Uncontrollable anger. In this dream state, she could not recall why she was so angry.
A figure approached from the peak of the hilltop, heading directly towards her. She couldn't see the face of this unknown in her dream, but she knew it to be a man. A very important man, and this said important man was here for her. She didn't know why she knew this, but she did.
The man knelt beside her and a voice she knew, but could not recognize, began to speak to her. "The pain is great, isn't it?" Suriel would nod in response. "Do you know why they killed -----?" She shook her head. "I know why, -----. They killed ----- because it's what they do." Another nod. "Do you wish revenge?"
At that she grew quiet, her fingers clenching even tighter into almost unbearably tight fists. For moments there was no sound but of the wind rustling through the trees.
"I do," she said.
After the words left her mouth, the dream faded and there was nothing but black. She felt empty, alone, unsure of who and what she was. Where she belonged, she did not know. A figure came into view - a soldier who's face she did not know, but with a voice she recognized, a touch she was beginning to become familiar with. Orguss, was his name. He was a Federation soldier that had rescued her from beneath a pile of rubble.
Thoughts and faces faded as her body began to feel more aware and less paralyzed. Her long, raven lashes fluttered open as she groaned, her body writhing into awareness as she awoke.
"Orguss?"
"And that's all you know about the girl?"
"Sir, yes sir."
Orguss stood up straight in front of his superior officer, who looked over the reports and papers in silence. WIth a somber sigh he moved his hand to his brow and rubbed. It was such unusual behavior for the rebel army to care this much just for a single girl. Something was certainly special about her, although they didn't know what yet. His hand shifted back down to look at the report on the girl Suriel, who otherwise seemed to be very much normal.
"Well for now at the very least, we need to make sure that this girl remains safe. I want you to stay with her at all times Orguss, do not ever let her out of your sight. Do you understand me soldier?"
"Yes sir."
"Good, you are dismissed." With a salute, Orguss hurried out of the officer's room and headed back to the infirmary. It was good to be back in the outpost again, and in many ways it was assuring, knowing that these walls were safe from rebel soldiers. When he reached the door, he opened it slowly, fearing the girl would still be knocked out. When he saw that she was beginning to stir, a bit if relief filled him. "Ah, I see you're up now Suriel... Don't worry, your safe now." He did his best to voice compassion and concern for the girl, but the synthesizer for his suit prevented any of it.
Suriel took in his words as she weakly pushed herself up on the bed she'd been placed in upon their arrival at the outpost. Her hair slipped over her shoulders to frame her youthful face. Those familiar emerald hues looked upon Orguss curiously. Her body was still feeling weak.
"What happened, Orguss?" she asked the words gently, almost on a whisper as she pushed herself up fully, a groan slipping out as she did so. She was happy to see Orguss here with her; somehow in the short amount of the time they'd spent together, she was becoming attached to him. She felt safe, even if she didn't know what the man looked like inside the suit of armor he wore.
[Short, sorry. Wasn't sure what else I could add.]
< -Nuzzles- It's fine. ^_^ >
"Easy now, stay down. No need to get up... You're safe now, don't worry." Orguss tried to smile, but of course she couldn't see his face and would have no idea he showed any concern. His armored hand gently patted her on the shoulder. He did his best to make this a ginger motion, but it wasn't particularly easy to do with his strength enhancing armor.
He stood up for a moment, to walk over towards one of the nearby pantries that they kept stocked. He pulled out a small power bar and and handed it to the girl. "Here, eat. It'll help you regain your strength." He sat back down on the medical stool and sighed through the armor. He wondered where to start... What with her being a civilian, he still needed to be rather subtle about it. "There was a rebel attack on us. One of their rounds managed to hit you and knock you out. The dart was only a paralyzing dart luckily, and you should be fine." He of course, mentioned nothing about why they wanted to capture her specifically or that he himself didn't know the answers either. He let out a sigh before replying, "And that's all we know for now..."
<Thankies! Hehe. -nuzzles back- =^^=>
She nodded, slowly beginning to eat the food that he'd brought to her. Suriel listened intently as he spoke, chewing. She began to subconsiously over analyze what he was telling her, picking apart every detail without really meaning to. After he finished, and she finished, Suriel raised her eyes to the eyes of his helmet. "So," she started, "I wasn't hallucinating. There really were people following us." It was good to know she wasn't crazy.
The dream she'd had was starting to nag at the corner of her mind. She pursed her lips and then sighed, laying back onto the bed. Then she smiled a little. "Do I get to see the face of my hero, yet?" she chuckled softly, then shook her head. "You don't have to if you don't feel safe to, yet."
Orguss nodded his head to her statement. Indeed she was right that they were being followed, and to say the least it wasn't comforting at all. He was still worried about how the girl was able to make such precise guesses and assumptions of their location... At first he thought it was just luck, but stating the angles of each shot was a bit too much, even for the most perceptive of shots.
His eyes wandered off into a daze while thinking back at what she had predicted, and didn't notice her question for a few moments. He blinked for a few moments to regain himself before nodding his head, "I do suppose I owe you that..." His hands shifted to pull at the locks on the side of the helmet. The sounds of pneumatics go off as the air pressure holding the helmet together before he lifted up vertically. The removal of the helmet revealed a face, dull and needing desperately needing a shave. His face was young, but covered with wrinkles to indicate his well-worn nature from the war. His eyes were a chocolate brown color, eyes bloodshot from days of sleep deprivation and long shifts. He kept his black hair short in a buzz cut, which was almost standard for all soldiers. He looked at her with a soft gaze, doing his best to not be intimidating, but it was rather hard to do when he was always in armor to make sure he frightened people.
As the helmet came off, Suriel found herself looking into a pair of warm, earth hued eyes that, despite his weary look, both calmed and comforted her. They even went as far as to soothe her shattered soul, made her feel like it didn't matter that she didn't know who she was. Maybe it didn't matter, after all, she thought as she looked at this man before her. Perhaps her memory had been wiped for a reason, to give her a new lease on life. After all, she had no idea if her past made her an enemy to this man, or an ally. Where he had found her, there had been both Federation and Rebel soldiers. Since Orguss had no idea who she was, there was a 50% chance that she was of the enemy side. It was either that she was an enemy, or a simple civilian, but the way Orguss looked at her sometimes gave her the impression that he didn't see her as a simple civilian. He saw something different about her, she could read that much from his actions. Her emerald eyes continued to look at him and, at that moment, she wanted to just forget about finding out who she was. She didn't want to find out that she was an enemy to her new friend, that would be one of the worst feelings she could concieve of. It was probably a good thing she'd forgotten her previous life - perhaps it had been a life full of tragedy, pain, suffering, and bad memories. That thought brought her mind back to her dream.
She shook her head to dispell her train of thought and then moved closer to him after she sat up on the bed. She leaned in to peer closely at his face. Then she leaned back and smiled. "I bet you're thinking that your looks intimidate me," she said, "but they don't. You're almost exactly like I pictured." Suriel then tucked her hair behind one of her ears and tilted her head. "Thank-you, Orguss. I know it's a big thing to show a stranger you know nothing about your face."
He continued to look over her soft facial features. It was nice to actually see her without a scanner visor surrounding his eyes. Orguss couldn't help but chuckle at her words when she spoke of his intimidating look. It was a a rough, but hearty laugh. He looked over her face for a moment, wondering just how old she was for a moment, since he soon realized he never truly did ask.
He softly nodded his head before looking away, not used to being thanked. No, for the most part the people he dealt with were usually yelling and rioting against him. A bit of kindness went a long way for this man. His eyes looked up for a moment towards the door. His ears picked up the sounds of a soldier returning, hopefully his comrade from earlier. He stood up for a moment before telling her, "I'll be back in a moment... I have something to tend to."
