Nothing is Coincidence(Zalvek+Anjeru)

She got the sense that he was indeed smiling and that made Suriel feel better than she had been before, when she'd been lost in thought. It was hard, to have no memories at all. It made her feel incomplete and out of place, like she didn't belong here. Or anywhere, for that matter. She smiled and then nodded as he moved towards the mouth of the cave; she knew she'd have to adjust to the light. She didn't even know what the light would look like, or feel like, but she was curious. Really, she was curious about anything and everything; wouldn't anyone in her position feel the same? When you knew nothing, wasn't the natural impulse be to find out everything you could?

As she followed after him quietly, she did indeed notice that she felt not one iota of pain anywhere in her body. Wasn't that strange, if she had really been buried beneath the rubble of the city? She was getting the sense she was different...and not necessarily in a good way, perhaps. As much as she wanted her memory back, she realized it could ultimately be a bad thing. She could be the enemy for all they knew and she really didn't want to be an enemy of Orguss. Despite the little time that they had spent together, she already felt comfortable and safe with him...she did not want to turn out to be his enemy; if it came to that, as a man of the military, she was certain he'd side with his men. The thought saddened her, though she knew it shouldn't, because she was just being pessimistic. She could be an ally, for all she knew.

She smiled again to herself.

When the smallest creep of light Orguss stopped in his tracks. All he needed was the smallest indication of when the sun went down. He set his bag down gently before signaling her to be quiet if possible. He stood entirely still as his red goggles shifted to zoom further in. There didn't seem to be any new movement in the areas yet, and that was good. Still, he wasn't going to take any risks.

He reached into his bag, and pulled out a small metal disk-like object. With the flick of a switch, nothing happened... Which meant of course that it was working properly. The proximity sensor would help to warn them if anyone were to approach the cave. He gave it a quick lob and watched as it glided to the entrance of the cave. He looked to her again before telling her in a bit of a whisper. "We'll stay here for now... try to not move or talk too much if you can."

Suriel watched curiously, her head titled as he went about fiddling with that...strange object. She got the sense that it would help them but she really had no idea what it is; just sort of looked like some high-tech gadget for someone like him to use. Someone like him, by this she meant the military of the Federation. When he spoke to her, she nodded softly and sat with her back to the cave, hugging her knees as she dropped her head back and closed her eyes. She decided to rest a little as they waited for the sun to set.

Well, this was going to be hard to pull off. Being ginger in this type of suit was rather hard to do after all. Orguss prodded her as gently as possible with the finger of his armor at her shoulder. It had been about an hour since the sun had gone down, and the proximity sensor hadn’t gone off either. If they were to choose to leave, now would be a very excellent time to do it. Already his bag was slung over his shoulder and he was set to go as soon as Suriel had awoken.

Sureil's eyes fluttered open at Orguss' nudge and, surpressing a yawn, she slowly got to her feet. She brought her hands to her thighs and butt, brushing the dirt off the clothes. She swept her hair behind her round shoulders and nodded to Orguss, letting him know that she was ready to go at any time. Emerald eyes watched him closely and the area around them quietly; trees and grass and wind. Being out here almost put her senses into overdrive since she couldn't remember what it felt like on her own.

Orguss gave her a moment and waited until she nodded to signify she was ready. He nodded to her, but more to himself as he stepped slowly into the moon's light. It was enough to still keep him well hidden thanks to the dark armor, but that didn't mean they wouldn't make any noise... Stealth was the key in surviving tonight. Once they were outside of the cave, he looked at the position of the moon before doing a quick calculation to figure out their current position, before pointing east. He signaled for her to follow and moved without making a single sound.

Suriel nodded and as she followed him out, she was in awe of the moon's magnificent glow over the land around them. The leaves on the tree's seemed to sparkle and the wind's dance only made them that much more mesmerizing to her as they walked. Despite being a normal civilian, Suriel moved along slightly behind him with a seemingly flawless grace. She didn't make a sound, one probably couldn't even hear the girl breath without having to strain their ears. Kind of an odd thing for a 'normal' person, really. Not that they knew her as 'normal' yet, or ever. Her emerald eyes sort of danced around them, drinking in as much of their surroundings as they could.

The woman general, several hours later, found herself standing in the cave that Suriel and Orguss had once been in. She inhaled deeply, before turning back to her men, her arms crossed stubbornly.

"They were here, probably some odd hours ago." She said. "We need to be quick. They're going to get to the outpost if we don't hurry."

They all nodded to her and then Motive stepped forward to pass out small devices among the group. "Remember now that the Federation is aware of our presence, to have these on at all times. The Blockers will allow us to get within range without them sensing our presence."

It was almost frightening as to how quiet this place was. Orguss was convinced that this place should have been swarming with soldiers on guard. Yet... nothing. It certainly was nerve-wrecking. Yet if they truly were foolish enough to leave this area free of anything, he would take advantage of it.

< Short. x.x; I apologize. >

((That's okay.))

Suriel stopped quite suddenly and her emerald eyes seemed to glow for a moment. "Shhh..." she said for when Orguss would question why she had stopped. "There...is something..." her eyes danced around them for a moment and then she pointed east. "...that way, and it's getting closer. Probably 3 to 4 bodies, that I can count." She didn't even seem to be aware of what she was doing, almost as if this were some kind of subconscious reflex she was experiencing. This, no doubt, would greatly surprise her companion because his equipment wouldn't be picking up anything except for him and her.

It was a few hours of silence in the forests and mountain range, but it seemed like an eternity and a half to anyone else. Orguss was used to it of course. Hours of training with the Federal Army had led to him being able to tackle almost any waiting game. After the time had passed, Orguss stopped for a brief moment in order to take a look at the position of the moon along with their location. They had gone a good number of miles, and he was amazed she managed to stay for so long... His red eyes looked over at her for a moment before speaking "We should be there within a day if we're set. Do you need to rest for a moment?" It was risky, but the safety of this girl took priority over anything else now.

There was a change in the hue of Suriel’s eyes. At first Orguss thought he had only been imagining things, but her words following that made him immediately push her down to the ground, while he ducked down as well. The rifle slung over his shoulder went down and ready in an idle position. With the flick of a finger, the safety went off. “. . .” He shifted his goggles until they were set to infrared. Indeed, there were bodies approaching! How in the world did she catch that…? He reached for the side of his belt before pulling out a flash grenade. It at all possible, he would have liked to avoid conflict. His entire body tense now, he readied for them to come into range of the grenade’s lobby.

Suriel's eyes seemed to snap back to reality as Orguss pushed her to the ground. The darkness around them gave them plenty of cover and Suriel peered quietly around them. She put her hand atop his armored one, the one holding the grenade and pushed it back down towards his side. She shook her head and motioned for complete silence, not moving even as Orguss' armored body hovered over her. There some rustling some odd feet away, faint voices, and then they were past. The bodies moved away and Suriel let out a small sigh. "Ok, they're moving on," she whispered up at Orguss' helmeted head with wide, innocent eyes. Not entirely sure why she'd said and done the things she had, almost as if she had no recollection of doing it.

In a few seconds, they would have been in range to blind, and they could have safely escaped from this place. But as he went to pull his hand back before slinging the grenade, he felt her own hand on top of his and blinked. What int eh world was she thinking? Did she want them to get caught by the rebels...? Still for some reason he was compelled to listen to her, and soon the soldiers were gone. It was a good thing he had not pulled the pin on the grenade just yet. Slowly he stood upright again and checked the surroundings once before looking back at Suriel with a very concerned stare, not that she could see it.

"The reason I didn't let you throw the grenade is because that would alert them to the fact that we're even in the area," she murmured as she climbed to her feet, slinging her hair back over her shoulder. Suriel raised her eyes to his hidden face. "They didn't detect us, so there won't be any reason for them to come back. It's like we're not even here, to them." She nodded, it seeming almost like the girl was merely thinking aloud. She chewed thoughtfully at her thumb nail, peering around them. Turning, she looked to the path ahead of them as if she were analyzing their next route of movement. "They should be quite a bit ahead of us, but I suggest we change our route just a bit to avoid running into them completely," she said as she turned back to him, dropping her arm back to her side. "What do you think, Orguss?"

All of these thoughts had gone through Orguss' head already. Being a Lieutenant, it was something he was able to easily analyze and understand. Still, that wasn't his primary concern. What was worrying him now was the girl. "... Suriel... Your eyes..." His hand moved to softly hold her cheek. This was bothering him from early on, and now it was practically begging to be asked. "Is there anything at all that you don't remember? Let me know now, please..."

She blinked as his hand came to rest against her cheek and her eyes seemed to fade back into their normal emerald color. She peered up at him curiously. "What?" She blinked a few times. "What about my eyes? I don't remember anything more than I did when I woke." Clearly, all of that had come out as some sort of reflex because she couldn't remember doing it, least not to the extent that Orguss could. And whatever it was that she had done was worrying him, she got that vibe, even if the man was coated from head to toe in armor.

Orguss frowned and bit his lip. She was doing it without realizing it. Previously he had assumed that she was just another girl who was about to die. Now he was able to tell she was much more special than he may have realized. "... No, it's nothing, don't worry about it." He looked away for a moment to scout the area, and find a proper direction to find. When he found himself comfortable with heading North East he told her, "Alright, let's start moving again. We should get there by daybreak if we don't get stopped again."

Suriel stared at him for a moment, then decided to go ahead and let the subject drop; what exactly had she done? She bit at her lower lip and then nodded at his words. "Alright. Sounds good to me." As he began walking forward, she would follow, a little more silently than she had before. Lost in her thoughts, wondering not only what was to become of her, but of what or who she was. She got the feeling that Orguss thought she was more than an ordinary person, she got it from the way he acted from her...well...to her, it was a black out of sorts. She didn't fully remember what she did, just that Orguss had sensed and protected her from the people and had scouted out a new route. Though, that was exactly the opposite of what had happened.

Strange.

Just as much as she wondered about what she was, Orguss did as well. He remembered hearing something about an independent company trying to produce super-soldiers. Yet that didn't seem to be her either... No, she was something else. It had been a few hours now, and the girl must have been hungry. He reached into his bag, and pulled out a small ration bar. He tossed it her way without a word before continuing to walk.

Suriel caught the bar and looked up at Orguss oddly for a moment, before turning her attention to the food. She nibbled at it thoughtfully as she walked. I hope he isn't seeing me as a burden...I don't want to be a problem...she thought as she finished the ration, glancing up at him again. She was quiet the whole leg of this journey, her footsteps fluid and silent. They'd been walking for a good amount of time, hours now, and soon she knew the sun would be rising. They should be reaching the outpost at any moment, daybreak not too far from spreading across this part of land.

The outpost was located deep within the forests and mountains. That was part of the reason as to why it was so hard for rebels to spot. Orguss found himself able to recognize his surroundings now, and didn't need to stop to check his position anymore. His eyes peered to the right, and a loud bang crossed them. A bullet whizzed by his face, and pierced far into the abyss of the forest. He didn't use his rifle, and instead reached for his own pistol at his side and returned the shot. He did not look over at Suriel, but warned her, "I'd get down if I were you, I don't want you getting hurt now..."

The bullet flying past them caused Suriel to jerk in response, her body growing reasonably tense until she saw Orguss pull out his own pistol. His words echoed in her ears and she tilted her head curiously, but murmured, "Yes sir." She then dropped back to take cover behind a boulder that was nearby them, her eyes trained carefully on her companion. Someone had found them, she was sure. Or maybe the outpost had mistaken them for the Rebels.

A strange buzzing began in her head again; seemed to always come up around things that posed a threat to either her or Orguss. Or maybe just the vibe of violence in general. She shook her head, but it wouldn't go away. Damnit...this is really starting to freak me out...

Despite the bullet just barely whizzing by his skull, Orguss remained unusually calm. Instead of reaching for his rifle, his hand wandered down to his holster and pulled out a small gun. After removing the safety, he pointed his gun in the direction of the bullet’s origin. There was a chilling moment of silence before a loud bang filled the forest,, followed by another. Two bullets ricocheted off of each other and sparked across the surroundings. Orguss remained calm nonetheless, finding the skilled shot to not be a threat at all.

Suriel's eyes were changing again as the buzzing in her head began to intensify; it was becoming almost too intense for her to handle, making her want to split her skull in two just to stop it. Her voice lowered to a whisper, but she knew, somehow, that Orguss would hear her words as she spoke to him - "the next shot will be coming from 3 feet to the left, 30 degree's higher than the last shot." Her eyes skimmed the semi-darkness around them as she leaned slightly into the boulder, her slim hands resting atop the rock's smooth, cold surface. Her eyes widened, "now!" she snapped it out quietly, knowing Orguss' years of military service would cause him to respond as quick as a reflex.
