My goals today. Catch up on Blue Moon and shopping. I had a lovely Thanksgiving. Twenty odd family and pseudo-family members showed up. I spent most of my time with grandma. She adores me; we spent a lot of time making each other laugh. Girls are expected to bring a dish to the meal; my passive-aggressive choice was Chex Mix. Getting the actual meal on the table took about an hour longer than expected, snacks proved popular and the Chex Mix steadily vanished. I photographed another popular choice, which filled one shelf in the refrigerator (this was actually the overflow, there was an iced bucket of beer bottles in the room with the big-assed television, 'cause you know, it's like so much work to actually get up and walk into the kitchen for a beer). And yes, we are a cheap beer family. One of my cousins turned twenty-one in August and lives in Vegas now, so he regaled us with which alcoholic drinks he liked and didn't like. I made the usual sounds of you shouldn't drink too much and then went and got some dark ale I found an open bottle of for him to try. Bunch of dogs outside that kept whining to come in, but one of them, the small one appears to hate girls, he kept growling and barking at me, so I didn't make the mistake of opening the sliding glass door and letting them in a second time. Let's see, I made the mistake of telling my brother that I enjoyed All About that Bass. Did I mention that I pretty much like all music? Turns out he feels that's a terrible song, so it's off my list. In retribution, I stole a couple more of his t-shirts. Oh Non Non Non did pass and for that I'm grateful. We also spent a certain amount of time talking about Pokemon game strategies. I tend to be a you-have-to-stick with your original pokemon out of loyalty girl, plus I choose my pokemon based on appearance. The counter theory seemed to be choose some weird-assed pokemon and play with it to make the game harder and more interesting. Puzzles were popular with the older crowd; we ended up playing a board game called Pandemic, which basically has four plagues spreading throughout the world and you have to cooperate to stop them. We weren't particularly successful. Sorry world.

Since we're now officially past Thanksgiving and into the pre-Christamas market-the-hell-out-of-everything holiday period, you can endure my first Christmas Video of the year,

Basically, the world wants me to be fat. Not only did I just survive the eatingest holiday of the year (soon to be followed up by a sickly-sweet-desert-laden Christmas), but I had pizza twice earlier this week. The first was my home made pizza. The second was after work with a friend. A new pizza place opened up and was advertising a $10 large one topping. It's one of those "take and bake" style pizza joints. It sounded worth checking out. When I got there, a line outside the door existed and they were now advertising $6 large one topping pizzas. So we just saved four bucks over the $10 "sale" price. The owner was outside chatting with people. When she got to us, I turned on my amazing-complimentary-isn't-it-brave-of-you-to-start-a-new-business-and-I'm-sure-you'll-do-great conversational skills while she told us her plans; the upshot was that she ended up offering us a free one topping large for having to wait in line. I'm easy to please and free is grand. But it got better. When I finally got to the front of the line, they had run out of the large "take and bake" pizzas, so the guy at the counter offered me a free "family size" one topping. And as I sit here writing this, a couple of slices still remain days later in my refrigerator and are gently calling my name. Which leads to my overall take on this; the world wants me to be fat.

I'm actually looking for duct tape to fix my computer. My brother installed a new hard drive for me and a new operating system. But he took the duct tape off my battery and so now it's falling out again (the battery). As I mentioned somewhere, my brother is stopping by my apartment on his way home in a few minutes. And he's going to install the Ubuntu operating system on my laptop so that I can dual boot (Windows 7 Ultimate is on the laptop already, that's the operating system he had available). In the meantime, I'm going to give him another crashed laptop of mine to take a look at (I totally abuse the sibling relationship thing) and my cousin (the one who just turned 21) gave me his laptop for my brother to fix.

I don't think my cousin's laptop is fixable. He's had to get the hard drive replaced already like four or five times (bless the extended warranty, because he's (ab)used the heck out of his). I never buy them, but in his case, it's been a real boon. Personally, I think he gets viruses from watching too much porn, but maybe I'm wrong. In any event, let me show you a picture I just took of his computer,

Computer.jpg

I'm like John, "there's a hole in the screen. Did you drop it? Throw a rock at it?" He says, "No." It just stopped working. And he's right. There isn't a physical hole or actual crack. But that screen looks totally thrashed. And yes, he has a bandaid over the camera. I didn't ask. Be fun to see what my brother says.

Sadly, I don't believe the military or universities should investigate crimes involving their own members. They have too large a stake in appearing safe, problem free, and making complaints go away. This doesn't mean that I believe all sexual harassment accusations are true; I just don't think the involved institutions should be the ones making that determination and deciding what action should be taken.

The Military's Rough Justice on Sexual Assault

55 Colleges Investigated Over Handling of Sexual Harassment Claims

Again, I'm not saying that all claims are true. I'm saying that there is a problem with a university or branch of the military service having hands on involvement in deciding how a particular case is handled. And until I read something that convinces me otherwise, I say require mandatory reporting of sexual assaults and require that they be turned over to a third-party (e.g., civilian law enforcement) for determination on how to proceed. It certainly can be done confidentially until probable cause is determined.

"According to Suleiman Bakhit' account, once he had 'started publishing my comic books, especially the ones that fight extremism and terrorism, I got attacked outside of my office by a couple of extremists. One of them hit me with a razor blade in my face. He was trying to take out one of my eyes. Because it was late at night and I drive a motorbike, I had to cauterize my own wound with a pocketknife before getting to a hospital. That's how I ended up with a big, massive scar on my face.' Aranim Media Factory, based in Amman, has become one of the largest producers of comics in the Arab language, it produces comic books, TV and film cartoons, digital comic strips, manga, creative media, and social-media games."

I agree. If you haven't already, I recommend watching a documentary called 'The Invisible War', about the incidence of sexual assault in the US Military, and the way it's handled, which underlines what you've said. It's not just the US Military, we've had enough of our own cases here.

Thanks Quix, I'll check it out.

At least UVA may be taking action now. And they've backed off on appointing a former member of the primary offending fraternity (a history of over thirty years of rape allegations) to head up the school's investigation. On the other side, and I don't know how I would react personally, but I advocate reporting sexual assault immediately, not months and years later, and reporting it to law enforcement not a university. The military is harder as if a woman is in the military, she has to follow the chain of command and the military usually has jurisdiction over such cases (if NCIS is right, not the best source of information). This should change.

Saturday was also when UVA president Teresa Sullivan suspended all campus fraternities until the beginning of the spring semester — at which time, her memo noted, there would be serious discussion and plans to address sexual violence on campus. The spring semester, it’s worth noting, begins Jan. 9, so the suspension — amounting to about six weeks, the bulk of which is winter break — seems ornamental at best. And the rest of Sullivan’s posturing can’t help seeming deeply disingenuous in light of the portrait of her in “A Rape on Campus.” In it, she seems to suggest that having recently hosted the nation’s first-ever summit on sexual assault for college administrators equates with UVA itself being completely transparent about its own history of campus assaults. Yet, as Erdely notes, “her most frequently invoked answer to my specific questions about sexual-assault handling at UVA – while two other UVA staffers sat in on the recorded call – was ‘I don’t know.’” Rolling Stone, as well as the students, faculty and alumni who have spoken out, describe the university and its top brass as being far less concerned with the safety and health of assault survivors than they are with the school’s reputation and funding — something that’s certainly not unique among institutions of higher learning. And the fact that Sullivan and other UVA administrators were happy to let the university’s clearly subpar protocol on sexual assault stand, only showing concern once a national magazine blew up their rarefied spot in front of a mass audience? Forgive survivors if they aren’t delivering a standing ovation. It shouldn’t take a public shaming for a school to value the lives of rape survivors.

I actually felt pretty safe when I was in college. I did some stupid things. But no man ever crossed any lines that I didn't want crossed. I still feel nervous if I'm outside alone, things like that. And then you hear disheartening stories about girls vanishing, being hurt.

What can I say? This time of the year is killing my erotic role play and interaction on Blue Moon. I'm writing some, but I'm just overwhelmed with real life and sort of have been since mid-November and probably will be for another week. I've got a couple of PMs that I need to reply to that are as old as November 28th.

I'm hoping to write some tonight and looking at the clock and door now wondering if I can slip out early or should I stay and do a bit more? It's either do it now or come in early tomorrow.

*sigh*

Just thought I'd kick in with some moral support.

The concept of Jolie clones is quite scary, but at the moment, it sounds like you need one. If it was me, I'd probably go home, then regret the decision when I came back in the next morning, so really, my answer isn't any help at all.

Hope things settle down for you soon :)

It always does settle down ... eventually. In the meantime, I'll take one Doppleganger and chain her to my desk. Poor little thing.

Meaningless stuff about Biker Clubs. Watched Sons of Anarchy last night; I had such high hopes for the show when it began. But as much as I love Charlie Hunnam's golden head and sweet, oh-so tight ass, the show itself lost me after a few seasons.

Apparently, the Netherlands have decided its okay for citizens of their country who are in Biker gangs to go the Middle East to fight ISIS with the Kurds.

A guy named George Rowe infiltrated the Vagos for three years as a private citizen working with the AFT. He's written a book about his experiences. I'm too cheap to buy the book and it's probably not my kind of novel anyway, but it does spark some ideas for a role play if I ever start taking new role plays.

A bunch of Hell's Angels stood in line for five days at a Wal-Mart to buy 200 bikes to donate to children on Black Friday.

And of course, my favorite biker gang:

And finally, something that has nothing to do with Biker's but did spark some creative fantasy-science fiction ideas for some role play plots. They initially thought that 100 brains from a Texas Lunatic Asylum and criminals such as Charles Whitman had been stolen. I had some fun ideas on why those brains might have been stolen, but they were found in San Antonio.

Eating Noodle Soup for lunch, very spicy, hot, filling, and not pizza. Not super low calorie, but much less fat. Leaves my mouth a little numb.

Don't read the sodium content in those things, I used to eat them all the time then I noticed how much salt was in one and I haven't really touched one since.

Of course if you rinse the noodles and don't use all the packets it's doable.

Excellent point. I had that thought myself. I use 1/2 packet at a time, but that's just following the instructions. It claims to be two meals. Hadn't thought about washing the dried noodles. Great tip.

An update, the last few weeks were incredibly busy for me both in terms of work and socially. It seems the holidays remind people that you exist and they want to catch up on your life and you on theirs. A long-time friend had his first baby. He’s stationed in Okinawa married to a girl from there. I keep in touch with him and met her when he brought her out to meet his parents. His dad and mine were in the military together and I’ve known my friend since we were both babies together. Now he’s this six-foot plus air force guy married to a girl who’s even shorter than me.

But back to my being busy. I finally caught up with all my work and had no more family obligations. Last Friday, I felt so good! It was like this rush of happiness to not have the weight of stuff that I should be doing pushing down on my shoulders. I felt so good and had not been out doing anything really fun that I went out clubbing Friday and Saturday, dancing, a little drinking, and fun with friends. Sunday morning, closer to noon, I woke up feeling sated and content. I caught up with housework. I had planned to be back writing at Blue Moon Monday and I did get a few responses done, but basically it took me a few days to get my psychic energy back up to speed.

I'm sorry for those that had to endure my slow posts during this period. Its the rhythm of my life and I'll always try to respect your own rhythms. Let's see, here's a picture I took on my cell phone while clubbing. It was too dark and didn't turn out, but I had fun playing with it a bit in Photoshop,

And I'm on a new diet. We'll see how it goes:

So, I’m a K-Drama girl. Well, I’m really into all sorts of Asian drama, but Korean dramas are by far my favorite. I find them to be the best acted, written, and produced by far. Thai-Dramas, the so-called Lakorns, are cool once in a while. But it’s like stepping way, way back in time. A lot of rape and tying up, abusing girls, until they eventually fall in love with their rapist and he falls in love with them. In Thailand, they eventually passed a law limiting the number of rapes you could have in any hour of television.

The Japanese dramas tend to be utterly silly. Mind you, there are some good ones, but a lot of them are too over the top for me to watch. Chinese dramas (mainly Hong Kong dramas) can also be silly, but there are a few good ones. None of the non-Korean dramas are up the quality of the South Korean entertainment industry, but each has its shining examples. I’m highlighting a rare Singapore drama in this post (the only one I've ever watched).

It’s called, “An Enchanted Life,” and is about a girl (Spoilers lie herein by the way) who starts out as a “betel nut babe”. Basically, she dresses up in sexy outfits and flirts with truckers on the highway selling a mildly intoxicating chewing gum like substitute. Her boyfriend gets promoted to “Big Brother” in his triad and she’s excited, because he gives her a gold card. But the catch is he wants her to sleep with the leader of the triad. She ends up running way to Singapore from Taiwan looking for her long lost father.

He turns out to be a rich jewelry designer. She falls in love with a guy who helped her find him. But he’s engaged to her half-sister. There’s also a triangle guy who loves the girl. A lot of craziness, a murder attempt, etc. Kind of a lame ending, but interesting.
