There Once Was a Pirate(butterfly0408/Distain2003)

He looked at her as he ate he paused for a moment before glancing at the door. "Its not about protection anymore its about privacy. I don't want them walking in on us like the doctor did."He chuckled eating quickly he was starving he had not eaten much since she had been wounded.

Laine choked a second on some of her food. So, he intended what happened yesterday to happen again. She had to admit, the thought of it did indeed excite her and so she just smiled back, blushing as she continued to eat her breakfast.

He finished his meal putting it on the tray taking a deep breath. He moved to lay down he had a few hours before he needed to give the call and order the ship to leave port. He looked at her smiling. He always hoped he would find her again but he never thought he would."Your father is going to have me hung isn't he?"

Laine was silent for a few very long moments. Closing her eyes, she could see it happen. Stephen with a noose around his neck and the door dropping out from under him. She grasped his hand, holding it hard, "If we go back... yes. The fleet on the island is not strong enough to pursue us though. As long as we stay away, you will be safe." If she lost him like that, not even the light would be able to keep her nightmares away.

"We need to figure out where we are going to go then. I don't want to be a pirate anymore... I can not go to any port that has seen me... I ... don't wish to retire only to be punished. " He spoke softly looking at her wondering just what they could do. "We could go to England... or the Colonies... we would be safe there. I have never attacked a English ship. They would not be concerned about my crimes against France and Spain. " He reached out taking her hand lightly.

Laine closed her eyes and pictured a lovely house in the English countryside. Not a cottage, but not a mansion. Someplace in between with beautiful land all around them and being able to watch the sunrise and set from the hills where they could go riding. "England. I picture a fine life for us there."

Stephen nodded his fingers curling lightly in the back of her night gown pulling her gently to him. "Come lay with me please!" He smiled looking at her taking a deep breath. "I will talk to Nathan and see if he will buy the treasures i have hidden in this area so that i don't have to go looking for them. "He spoke softly."There is an English colony not far from here I will part from this ship there.

Laine feel down next to him in the bed, cuddling so close to him. "It is all happening so fast... my dreams coming true." She looked at his face, gently brushing a few strands to the side, "I love you Stephen. I have for all this time."

"I loved you since before you got your scar. "He had loved her for nearly a year before becoming her 'hero' he was just to young to understand it. "Things will slow down once we get off this boat but... I must do things quickly or the others will see you as a weakness they can exploit. I have one request... We move far inland I have had enough of this cursed see and coastal cities for one life. "He smiled one hand finding her side resting there lightly the other caressed her neck as he kissed her softly.

She snuggled a little close to him, wrapping her arms around him and hugging, "Agreed. After living on an island, the only water I want near my home it perhaps a nice little fish pond in the garden."

Stephen rubbed her side lightly closing his eyes kissing her again. It was going to be so amazing to retire with her. He did not think he would ever retire let alone retire with the woman of his dreams. He held her close continuing to kiss her. "I think i preferred the hammock i might put one up over by the desk."He laughed softly.

She could not help but laugh a moment before hugging herself even tighter to him, "We will put one in our backyard to lounge in." She leaned in and kissed his lips tenderly. Things were heating up... she nipped her lip a little bit. "Stephen... I want... I the first time to be... to be something special..."

Stephen nodded looking into her eyes taking a deep breath he had already gone 2 ports with out it had been nearly 3 months since his last encounter with a woman. "It will not be easy for me wait... but your worth waiting for i promise it will be." He took a deep breath and kissed her again. "But I am putting a hammock in here so we can lay like that again because i very much enjoyed it. "He smiled looking into her eyes. It felt so nice having her laying tightly against him. "I will have Nathan in her shortly so if you want to cover up you can take some of my cloths. "

"I just... I want to heal." She sighed, "I want it to be perfect, memorable, and I don't want you to worry about harming me. I know you and I don't want a flinch from me to make you back away." She leaned her head to the side, nipping his ear a moment, "And I want it all. All of you."

Stephen smiled kissing her softly squeezing her lightly. Slowly he slipped from under her standing up next to the door. "Why do you get dressed I am going to get this ship under way. "He smiled walking out onto the deck sounding the bell form the ship that rang threw the town giving the crew half an hour to get on the ship or be left behind. Stephen went below decks and grabbed a spare hammock while he waited and the ship was prepared.

Laine moved to sit on the edge of the bed, stretching her arms up above her head. Things were good at long last. Standing, she limped a little across the room to the window seat trunk. Opening it, she smiled. Her clothing was now next to his. She took a moment to run her hands over the sight before pulling out a simple dress and putting it on.

With in an hour from the time he left the ship was under way. Stephen, Nathan, and Adam set a course for the English settlement and readied to raise the English colors in the morning. It was not long after they left port Stephen came into the room. Tossing the balled up hammock on the floor near the bed. Nathan looked at her with a soft smile. "Laine, this is Nathan he was taken by the doc about 2 weeks after i was. "Nathan nodded and smiled at her. "Hello miss I am sorry about what has happened to your family over the years."

The pair moved to the desk Stephen sat down behind it and began talking to him. "I have 50,000 in coin and treasure buried. I will sell you the locations for 40." They both knew the price was far to high for the risk but it was a rule tradition that you haggled a bit in these sorts of transactions. "How many locations? How many nations coins. " Nathan piped back in wondering if it would be a pain to dig it all up. "2 locations 2 types of coin French and Spanish." Nathan nodded and responded with an offer of 25. After a few more offers and counter offers the pair settled on 30.

"Nathan I know i never made you promise not to attack the English. But i need you to leave them be for 5 months until i can get to England. "Nathan nodded and offered his hand."Sir, not only will i do that but i will continue to honor your request of attacking your home town. "Stephen nodded and took his hand standing slowly."Have your money ready when we make port in Kenflo. I will have maps prepared for you. It has been an honor and a pleasure sailing with you my friend. "Nathan nodded. "As it has been with you. "With that he turned heading to door closing it. Stephen followed and locked it after her left turning he smiled at her not saying a word.

Laine sat at the window seat, reading one of the books from under the bed the entire time that the men were haggling with one another. But she spent more of the time listening while she pretended to be reading. When he mentioned that he had 50,000 in coin buried, she almost fell off her seat! That kind of money was more then she ever dreamed of on her little island. Even the amount settled upon was a dream! Their life would be so amazing! The 30,000 could get them a perfect place. Eventually, they would need to go back to some kind of work when the children started coming along. Another thought that made her almost fall off her seat once again. Children. With Stephen. She was blushing and raised the book to cover her face partially when he turned to look her way.

Stephen turned at her smiling giving her a playful wink."You can go back to reading now. Once we get to shore we will have more than enough money to last us a long time. "He smiled not mentioning the amount of money he had on the ship. He moved over next to the bed starting to hang the hammock tossing a pillow into it once it was up. Slowly he crawlled into it taking a deep breath. He loved relaxing in a hammock.

Seeing that he had set up the hammock, she could not stay away any longer. Putting the book down, she crossed to him, leaning on the side of the hammock, "It is not a very good book anyway. Room for two?" She smiled and waited for him to give her a hand. She was still injured after all.

Stephen gripped her sides as best he could helping her up. The hammock was not designed for to but for a much larger man. As long as she laid mostly on him she would not fall out."Now this is what i was hoping for!" Kissing her softly wrapping his arms around her holding her close.

She hugged herself close to him, never letting go. "Perhaps we shall have to sleep like this tonight?" She looked down at the drop to the floor. "As long as you promise not to let me go of course."

(Last of the night. Sorry I was not around much this evening.)

He squeezed her lightly pressing his lips against her's."I promise not to let you fall."He took a deep breath he would have to remember to light the lanterns tonight or she would not fare well on this platform. "I enjoy holding you so much i would be sad if you fell i would miss you. "

"Mmmm, that's good to know. I would miss you as well." She leaned in and kissed him, but the moment her lips touched his, their was a knock at the door. She sighed a little bit, "Never a moment's piece." She turned a little and watched as the doctor entered the room, "I hear you will be leaving the ship at once?" He glared slightly at Stephen, "Did you forget our conversation so soon? I thought we agreed you would not be leaving until those wounds were fully healed?"

Stephen got out of the hammock and stood looking at the doctor. "Come in doc take a look at us both see how we are both doing. "He moved to the bed setting down slowly."Doc I am doing fine and she seems to be doing very well. There is only one English port in this area. I can't continue to use this ship as my personal transport. If you insist i can possibly drag out the 3 day trip to a week or so but that will be the longest. "
