[DnD 5e homebrew] Ixalan Coast

The waves are finally starting to settle, and along with it the crew. A lone Schoomer acting as Ferry glides along the waves and through the dense fog. Heading towards Durahs Landing one of the largest ports still open to the public, and not controlled by the queens legion.

Heading out from your homeland islands you are headed towards the largest land mass in your known world. The 'mainland' of Ixalan, a wild, and still untamed land, home of pirates, Merfolk, dinosaurs and bountiful riches.

Below the deck and in the galley the boat is finally starting to settle along with the crew's stomach, and food is being prepped along the galley. It's the first chance anyone has had to take a walk outside of their quarters on account of the storm the ship was forced into.



So this is a small idea i had ever since I started drafting Ixalan magic the gathering. I'm one of the wierd people who used to read the books that would come out with some of the older sets, and Ixalan brought forth a lot more vibrant art and cards, and it was one where I wanted a book, but instead only got a quick short story with Jace at the center.

So I said 'fuck it' if they don't want a story why don't I just turn the cards into a home brew dnd game, and with some help from a friend I got some of my stuff in order to put this together.

I'm looking for about 4-6 players at the table. I'm a new DM, but not a new player, and I think I will be very approachable for this.

Originally I was gonna homebrew the races for the game, but I decided not too, I will be accepting pretty much anything out of the fifth edition core books as long as you run it past me when it comes to characters.

For character creation I'm going with the tried and true, 4d6 subtract lowest.

How about a ranger?
 
Dinosaurs and jungles! Maybe mountains, coast/beach/sea, merfolk I think are a thing...
The whole thing is kind of New World south america Aztec/Inca/Mayan - y, with pirates and vampires etcetera.
Think kind of like Lustria in Warhammer Fantasy.
I think. Reasonably sure.
 
Yeah i would say Dinosaurs would probably be the best one, lizard folk, and orcs are common pirates if you wanted to go the two humanoid path. If you can pick up vampires than that's a thing, but I won't really be introducing the queen's legion for a little while, at least till I figured out a better name for them.

Mostly done. She grew up traveling with her mother, a wandering bard, and learned to particiapte in many of her mother's acts.

A crossbow and a longbow are the same price. mind if I swap them?

Just a reminder that everyone's backstory and character sheet should be posted in the character thread by friday cause I want to put up the first post of the group thread saturday, if your late by three days (so by tuesday the 7th of november ) than I will say you have missed the boat, and thus will have to wait till the party has reached the shores to join.
 
Oh just so you know the trade languages of ixalan:

"Common" will be useful in most ports.

"Aquan" the riverways belong to the merfolk, who have been rather unfriendly to all who pass their way, it is less common, but is often spoken by sailors or those who have had positive dealings with the water.

"Draconic." Many of the inland tribes of ixalan speak this as their most prominent language, especially the lizard folk and goblin tribes.
 
Just wondering, any slots still open? I have some ideas for a Dragonborn character, not sure on the exact class yet though.

I'm thinking Copper Dragonborn, going Path of the Storm Herald (Sea) might be a good fit... will grab Dragon Wings at level 4.
 
So far three people of the six have fully submitted their characters, with backstories and pics.

At this point if you can finish your character by the end of the day, with backstory included than I say you can have a seat. If it will light a fire under the ass of my other players if i remove a seat for someone who has not submitted or spoken to me than that's fine.

They had a week.
 
Sheet is already mostly done, using myth-weavers, or at least, the crunch is. Backstory should be a little bit longer, but won't take too long.

I'm gonna put up a suggestion I got from Davian_Veq

they asked that instead of having regular inspiration if we could do something like lude inspiration, where it allows you to conquer something through sexual means.

Now I'm gonna be completely honest, 9/10 times I'm gonna provide a sexual solution to a problem so personally i don't feel the need to change a game mechanic to just be changed to sex.

However I don't like saying no to a player, and i do see where it could be useful if something has gone wrong, people are past the point of negotiation, and they want to use that point to swing things back into their favor, well that's at least partly what inspiration is for.

It's for those moments when you want things to be more cinematic, and porn helped to make cinema what it is.

So rather than just shoot this one down, or fundamentally change something without asking everyone that it would affect. I decide to open this up to a vote.

Only people with completed characters and backstories get a say.

BTW tomorrow is the absolute last day that I am gonna wait around for those of you who haven't finished your character or backstory.
 
Well, Voleen is fleeing from her city, full of tyranny, vampires, and unrelenting order, where there has recently been a serious purge of the less-than-legal undercity.

Not quite sure whether she's still on the same ship, or has hopped from the first ship to another full of refugees, as it is possible her group fled to a completely different island/city/state in another kind of peril, but that's at least one group of desperate fleeing people.

Many of the islands seem to be in a whole chaotic upheaval, what with all the pirates, expeditionaries, and vampire armies heading off to claim land/search for treasure/have fun in Ixalan.
 
And Kata may have killed a noble in a drunken brawl. Yeah, on the one hand, it's not as dark and grim as the others. On the other hand... does it need to be?


Also I vote 'eh, why not' to lewd inspiration.

To be honest I was eyeing this game if I want to join or not - and this clinched it.

So, if you still have a place, and would want another girl to join up ... (or more than just a girl) ... I would be happy to hear your suggestions, what is missing from the party. Class wise, or knowledge/skill wise. I am even open to ideas what race you would be interested in. ;)
