Ancient Ways

As Aten neared the hole to his caves he noticed a cat of sorts pushing something through the hole. He quickly grabbed a rock and jumped up into a nearby tree still holding onto his catch, as he landed he tossed the stone as quick as he could aiming to go right past the cats head hoping to scare it off, he didn't like having needless battle and wasting food if it need not be done. He waited in the tree to see if the cat would run after all it looked like a simple cat but odd because it some how didnt look like it fit in this area. He felt like he had seen them somewhere before but his memories were foggy in some places.

The cat backed off, deciding to try for another way in trying to contact her but nothing was going through-- especially not her bulky form through that gap. She wandered off, hoping her little mistress was alright... but then again, her entire pack had been wiped out from that one girl, so maybe.... she sighed. Maybe it was time to leave the girl. She weighed her options; on one side we have their friendship, their bond, on the other she had her own survival and the survival of her race, her family. She sighed, lashing her tail as she pondered this one, the other creatures having not neared the cave at all. She gave a snort and started to stalk off, to find a more suitable den than the cold wet cave, and decide in the night what to do.

Aten watched as the cat heeded his warning, now if only he knew what had gone in ahead of the cat he wouldn't be to worried. Aten looked around to make sure the coast was clear before he jumped down from the tree, he landed perfectly without any trouble but he kept his eye on the door to the caves as he walked closer to it. Since there was no light he couldnt even begin to tell what was awaiting him. He entered the cave shoving his catch through first just in case what ever inside tried to attack him while he was trying to get through. Nothing, he pushed further still feeling that nothing was there, he heard breathing and a heart beat but both were slow and faint. He decided that whatever was there wasnt going to hurt him, but as soon as he got all the way through his face sank and went pale. Of all the things to find in a cave this is what he hadn't hoped for.

He sat cross legged in the door way he could tell just from his hearing that she was doing horribly, as he sat there he pondered what to do, he could stay and live the life they had before knowing what was to come or he could continue running trying to keep her safe the best way he could. For now he would keep her warm and leave her food, but would send her out on her own again. Aten scaled the cave getting to somewhere about the middle and pushed a single finger through the rock like butter until he reached through, he made the hole about as big as his wrist and made a few more around it farther away. When he finished he gathered some wood and searched for about an hour until he found a sturdy vine, it took him all of two seconds to start a fire, he cooked his meat and move the girl whose name he couldn't remember close to the fire to keep her warm. He stat there eating quietly keeping his hearing open just in case anything came near looking for a quick meal.

In her minds haze she could feel the warmth and wished to move closer to it, but couldn't will her limbs to do anything, her own breathing feeling labored and weak... but at least the warmth was getting to her bones-- not that it was a far stretch between them and her skin. She wanted to thank whoever was doing this, but at the same time she couldn't even feel who it was, not a noise, not a sound, nothing evaded into the fog that was everywhere in her mind... Her eyes were blind anyways, but she could see better than most, yet through this fog she could barely perceive that the warmth was coming from a fire... She let herself drift back into the fog, to rest a while more, her breathing still terrible at best, but at least the bone chill was lessening...

As he sat there and ate he noticed a twitch in his hand. He wasn't sure what it was about but he decided to just ignore it. He looked over at the girl and noticed that she was shivering a little so he placed some more wood onto the fire and went back to what he was doing. He still had a very uneasy feeling as though he shouldn't be around this person otherwise something terrible would happen. He didn't know how or why he knew this, it was just like something had happened and he just couldn't remember it. He told himself that as soon as the person was better he would send her on her way again.
