Happens a lot more often than you think. Kids don't fully comprehend death, so they expect their parents to come back sooner or later.

I dunno I think the saddest thing is the parent sacrificing him or herself for the kid and then the kid asking later. According to my mom my cousin found his mom stabbed to death after she tried to fend off a burglar protecting him and for weeks after asked when she was coming back from the hospital. Sad times..
