"Are you sure you're not just seeing things again, Hiro?" Mason asked. Mason was Hiro's best friend. The two had met during their first year of college in a biology class. Since then, they would spent countless nights together, despite the disapproval from Hiro's sister. Hiro was the more studious of the two, and flirtatous even, while Mason was a carefree spirit who hoped to soak in the college life of self-exploration and adventure.
"I'm not too sure myself." Hiro rubbed his eyes.
When he reopened his eyes, the male could see a thin strip of violet outlining a woman who was walking by. The color seemed subtle at first, and only by focusing in on it, could he make out the small specks of light. No matter what angle Hiro looked at the woman, the outline would always perfectly follow her figure. The colors sometimes danced around her figure, occasionally light up like a flame. If this had been Hiro's first time seeing it, he would surely rush to the woman's side and help put out the flame. Yet, this was one of the many times in which he had seen it. He could only compile three facts from it. Firstly, that the violet siloutte only appeared on women. Secondly, it only appeared on women past a particular age. And third, nobody seemed to notice the strange aura - the women included.
"Hello?" Mason waved a hand in front of his friend. Hiro's crystal blue eyes widened. He shook his head. "Ah, sorry. Maybe I just need sleep."
"That's no good, Hiro! I need your help picking out a gift for your sister." Mason groaned. Hiro shot him a dirty look.
"You what?"
"A gift. For your sister."
"Are you trying to hit on my sister?" Hiro frowned.
"Pthhh! Your sister? No! I just want to repay her. As a sign of - what's the word I'm looking for?"
"Gratitude?"
"Yeah, that's it. Gratitude! So come on, help a brother out."
"Oh, so I'm your brother-in-law now." Hiro accused his friend.
"I did not say that! But, theoretically, it'd be pretty cool for us to be brothers, right?"

The front door to the house swung open. Hiro emerged from the darkness behind him. While he still had his backpack strapped to his shoulders, it was clear that his classes had ended hours ago. Hiro untied his shoes and tossed the backpack aside. "Sis? Are you home?" The black-haired male called out. "You better lay low for a few days and avoid Mason. He wants to hit on you again." Hiro rolled his eyes. When he didn't recieve a reply from his sister, he pursed his lips. The male took a cautious step forward. The lights in the house were on. Did his sister go somewhere? Was she taking a nap?
Hiro decided to check the living room at first. "Sis?" Hiro curiously peaked into the room.
