Josiah had planned on asking June & Sally to leave town. Both would be targets because they worked at the brothel. Besides, Sally was a friend of Jenny. This by what Mathew said, made her a possible target. Josiah wasn't surprised when Belle spoke of staying behind. He expected her to stay. Belle wasn't type to run during times of trouble. If she was that type, she would never have been able to free her sister from the Crenshaw brothers. It took a bold and daring woman to go where Belle had gone. To learn everything she needed to learn so her sister would be free. Belle was a stronger woman now, then ever before in her life. She's become a whore and was proud to service men for money. Belle was also a match for damn near any man who crossed paths with her. She could drink with the best of them. She could out shoot many of them and Belle was just as dangerous with a knife as she was with a pistol or rifle. Belle also knew how to handle a bow & arrow. Thanks to her grandfather.
Mathew just nodded his head when Belle said she would be staying. He understood her reasons, but he also knew the danger she was facing. Fighting vampires wasn't like fighting normal humans. Mathew knew Belle could be a target just because this place was hers. He would hate for something bad to happen. Mathew didn't want to see Belle turned into a creature of the night. She deserved a better fate then that. Mathew was still under the impression that all vampires were evil. It would be a few years before he would find one, a female vampire who would make him see not all vampires were evil. The night passed into morning. Belle, Josiah & Mathew sat at the table talking as the night time faded away. They were still at the table when Hyrum came knocking at the front door. He was invited inside for some coffee. Hyrum told of what happened at his house last night. He spoke of Jenny coming for Sally. Hyrum said the rosary Belle gave his daughter, was the only thing that saved her. He also spoke of the slaughter which took place at the Billings farm. Mr. & Mrs. Billings and their farm hand were dead. Just like Jenny & Cathy. Two marks on their necks and their bodies drained of blood.
As he sat there listening the Mayor Palmer tell everyone the news. Mathew was thinking that perhaps Belle shouldn't send her girls away. In fact, he now believed she should re-open her brothel that evening. Klaus wasn't the only one who could set a trap. Mathew believed they could bring the vampires to them, by having most of the ones they wanted inside the brothel. " Belle........I think you shouldn't send your girls away.........You should open for business as usual tonight........You should also have June and Sally stay here after closing time. " Mathew's words brought looks of disbelief from those seated at the table. Josiah was stunned by what Mathew had said. If Belle opened up this evening. That would most likely drawn in some of the vampires. Maybe not while the place was open, but surely after it closed.
