Where's My Happy Ending? ((butterfly0408/Kolath))

She had walked to market as fast as she could this day, but walking was still painful. Everything was painful, especially living. They had not put her outside as they originally threatened to do, but left her in that cold, windowless basement for three days before allowing her back to her bed in the storage room. The whole thing reminded her of when her life first changed. They had given her much of this same treatment. This time had been worse, though not by to much.

And now she was back to normal. The way things were suppose to be. Or at least the way Juliet wanted things to be. It meant one horrible thing though... she had to avoid Aiden. It broke her heart, but it would be better to just never see him or speak to him again then have to confront him about it. He would see her bruises, overreact, make things even worse to her. At ALL costs she could NOT see him!

She was rushing to get her items on the list, just picking up the last one, heading for home with her head down.

Aiden was getting tired of not seeing her and he was about to give up and go home when he looked up and saw her hurrying toward the road she took home. He changed his course and started after her moving as fast as he could through the crowd. â??Crista!! Wait! We need to talk! Please!â? he pushed through the crowd as hard as he could gaining some ground on her as he pushed hard trying to get to herâ?¦why was she in such a rush?

Hearing his voice, she picked up her pace to the point where it hurt her, but it didn't matter. She couldn't face him. Not now! She didn't know if she ever could, but certainly not now. Her lip was still swollen something ugly. She tried not to acknowledge him at all. Perhaps if he thought her someone different, he would leave her alone. Wishful thinking.

He started to run hard at her rushing forward pushing through the crowd as it thinned moving quickly up behind her. his hand slipped under her arm as he got closer trying to stop her. â??Crista wait please we need to talk about what happened.â? His hand was firm but gentle as he tried to hold her back wanting her to stop and talk to him. she couldnâ??t be mad at him for what happened last time could she?

This was it. This was the moment she had wanted so much to avoid and now it was facing her head on. She hated this, but she knew what she had to do. "Aiden, please don't talk to me. I got in a lot of trouble for being late. I'm not allowed to speak with you anymore." She tugged her arm away, flinching slightly at the pain the sharp motion caused, and praying silently that he had not noticed it. Please, just let him let her go. "I'm sorry Aiden..." she added.

Aiden did notice and moved closer moving in front of her his hands resting on her shoulders. â??Cristaâ?¦please donâ??t push me away like this Iâ??m not going to give up on what we have.â? His hand came up to tilt her chin up to look into her eyes. The instant he saw her face horror and anger mixed on his face seeing her injuries. â??Who did this to you? No one has the right to hurt anyone else like this! Was it the baron?â?

Crista sighed, hoping he would not have seen it. It touched her somewhere deep inside he cared so much about her to have this kind of reaction to her pain. At the same time, it added to that very pain. The pain in her heart. "It's not as bad as it looks," lie, "and they do have the right Aiden. They are my masters, I'm their..." she stumbled a bit.

There was only one way, "I never wanted things to come to this. I never wanted you to know the truth about me. Who I am, what I am. I'm embarrassed and I always thought you knowing everything would make you think less of me. No, I KNOW it will make you think less of me. So if it's the only way to make you understand that you have to leave me alone... so be it." It seemed like she was about to get it all off her chest and confess it all. But was it really the truth, or the lies Juliet and Dilian had created for their benefit. "I'm not just a servant Aiden. I'm a slave. I don't WORK for them, they own me. I must do whatever they want, whenever they want... to who ever they want..." She closed her eyes, wanting to cry, but being strong. This was it. The moment he would know the truth and she could officially never look him in the eye again. She took a moment to just look in them one last time, remembering how they looked since it was the last she'd ever see them. She was going to miss his eyes, and the wonderful man they were attached to even more.

Then, lowering her face, she said her horrible secret, "I don't just serve their house Aiden... I service their bedroom. So you see, all that talk you made about me being so noble and ladylike... you were telling a whore those things..."

She sighed once more. Thinking that there was no way he'd fight her cutting her ties to him, she pushed past him again, and tried to continue on her way, "I'm sorry I mislead you. Goodbye Aiden..." she said as she passed.

Aiden just stood there looking into Cristaâ??s eyes the entire time that she poured out all her secrets. It was true that when she told him that she was the slave of the baron it made him pause and the rest about servicing their bedroom even more so. However as she tried to push pass him his hands once against shot out this time wrapping around her waist as she passed him pulling her back against his chest. He was gentle but still firm.

There was no demands made as to why or words of derision toward her and what she did. He just gently held her close his lips kissing her neck just below her ear as he whispered, tears filling his words. â??Iâ??m sorry Crista, but no matter what I am not letting you go and the more you tell me the more I know I never will.â?

He just stood there holding her gently nuzzling her hair and neck lightly as long as she let him.

Her whole body went tense as he wrapped his arms around her. She didn't even notice the pain his hold her like this sent piercing through her back. It was still tender and the bandages were thin. This whole thing was getting to be to much. How would he not walk away from her? Why wouldn't he just let her go already!

She was starting to get desperate now. Time was ticking away, he was holding her back. She'd be beaten again. "Why can't you understand this Aiden. It's not hard. I can't talk to you anymore. I have to go to the market and go right home again. I don't have time for you or silly things like this. Now let me go before I have to do something desperate. Don't think I won't either. We are no to far from others. They'll hear me cry rape if you force me to do such a thing!" This was really not how she had wanted things to turn out in the end for them.

Aiden didnâ??t understand at all why was she trying to pull away so much did she really not care for him? All his movements were gentle but firm he was controlling a lot of both positive and a few negative emotions from overwhelming him. as he turned her around to look into her eyes his own were filled with tears. â??Crista I donâ??t understandâ?¦I know that the baron must have been made but you can leave him and come be with me I will take you away from him.â? his hand brushed over her cheek and leaned in pressing his lips against hers pouring all his love into the kiss.

For a moment, Crista really took his proposal to heart. She could go. She could be with him. No more beatings, no more living in fear. Yet it couldn't be. They would never let her go. Juliet and Dilian would kill her before they ever let her go. And they were such horrible, scheming, bastards, they might just try and kill him as well.

Dear lord, she never wanted it to come to this moment, but there was no choice left. To protect him and herself, it had to happen. At least she had one final kiss to hang on to forever now. Yanking her face back, she screamed at the top of her lungs and started to squirm and struggle in his arms, "HELP! HELP ME! RAPE! HELP!" But once she had screamed, she dropped her voice low again for him to hear her and him alone, "I'm sorry Aiden. There is no other way, even if you think there could have been."

Aiden just stood there enjoying the kiss as long as it lasted, he could feel her almost grabbing at the rope of freedom he offered her, almost run away with him; then she pulled away. He blinked looking into her eyes as she screamed that he was raping her. in shock he stood there as she whispered that there was no way she could come with him and moments later several big guys came over grabbing his arms and pulling him from her. they group of guys helped her get away from him and as he fought to be free they just worked to pin him to the ground allowing her to run.

She wanted to beg them not to hurt him as they pulled them apart. What a way to part with one another. Backing away as the man that had helped her move away from the fray. Soon she was by herself and it was her last chance to change her mind. Tears started to stream down her face as she stepped further and further until she turned and just ran, as fast as she could, "Forgive me!" she cried out as she ran. She didn't stop or slow until she was all the way home again.

Meanwhile, the men has Aiden down and there was no way he could fight them all off. Another soon arrived with three of the royal guards assigned to patrol the market and keep order. "Here he is! He attacked a girl! We got him though now you can take him for justice!"

That wasn't what happened though. The moment the guards got a look at the face of the man pinned, they recognized him to be the crown prince and they went into action. "Unhand him you peasant scum and dirt!" The guards forcefully pulled the men one by one off him and each took a man, beating the good men in return for their good deed.

As soon as Aiden was free and could stand he grabbed the sergeantâ??s hand before he could land another blow. â??Thatâ??s enough sergeant, these people did nothing wrong.â? He pushed the other guards away from the other townâ??s people that were now totally confused.

The sergeant was equally as confused about what was going on and after a few moments got his men back together and away from the crowd. â??Your highness we will escort you to the Palace to see that you are safe.â?

Aiden tried to object but the guard had orders that if Prince Aiden was found outside the castle walls without a escort they were to make sure he came back; hog tied if needed.

By the time she finally got back home... Crista was a mess once again. Her hard running left her breathless and sweating. The gashes on her back had reopened and once more she was loosing blood. Her head was telling her she had to pace herself now or the result would be dire, but she was to flustered. The events of what had just happened in the market played over and over again in her head. She had had a chance, the one and only chance she would ever get to escape this place. Why? Why did she let it slip from her fingers? WHY?!

As she came into the house, she ignored the dizziness starting to flood her head and how the room was starting to spin. Crista threw herself into work. Getting her chore list to the proper locations, setting the table. At one point, Susanna say her, trying to show some concern for her odd behavior today. In the time she had been taking care of her, she had found a place of compassion in her heart for her step sister. "Are you alright Crista?"

"Of course mistress," she replied her face down to hide the last of the tears in her eyes and went into the next room.

Susanna was about to walk away, still confused, when a loud smash from the room Crista had just entered caught her attention. Rushing in, Susanna found Crista, out cold on the floor, a few shattered plates near her. It had all been to much for her for one day. Her world had broken apart.

Meanwhile...

"What if you were recognized Aiden! My GOD! The crown prince, attacking a girl! You are suppose to be the future of his kingdom!" His father had him sitting as he paced around him in furious circles. His mother sat nearby, watching in quiet like always. "Is this what you have been doing? While all this time you were suppose to be looking for a suitable bride you have been traipsing around with whores! Assaulting them! You are FORBIDDEN to leave these grounds until you are wed! And I am taking the control of the search! I let you play by your own rules now it's time to play by mine!"

Aiden was having none of just sitting there and letting his father yell at him for something he did not do. Aiden glated at his father, â??I did not attack her and I have never touched a whore in my life. she and I are friends and for some reason she screamed that I was raping her when I all was doing was trying to stop her from returning to the baron that has been beating her and making her a sex slave!â? Aiden was still so upset from earlier with Crista that he wasnâ??t even thinking through what he was saying just reacting taking his anger at the baron and at Crista out on his father.

His mother and father both paused at his outburst. Both having their own reactions to what he revealed to them. His mother looked shocked at worst, then her face morphed to being pensive and at last some look that was undefinable.

His father on the other hand... his face turned red hot. He was fumming now, "My son! The prince! Friends with not only a servant but some... some common tramp! A SEX SLAVE! You will never speak of knowing this girl to anyone. In fact you will push this tramp from your mind all together! Girls that that are liars and thieves! My son will NOT associate himself with a girl like that! Am I clear!!"

Aiden was just as upset as his father and so instead of answering as he should with a simple, yes sir, he continued the yelling. â??Or what father? You will have me beheaded? You will lock me in the dungeon? You canâ??t do a thing to me because I am the one thing that you need most in all the world. A son an heir it is my place to rule the kingdom after you are gone and you can do nothing to me to make me do you will if I choose not to.â? Aiden turned on his heel and started for the door very much done with his parents wanting nothing more than to just leave and go find Crista.

"GUARDS!" the king bellowed. And of course, five men came running to the doorway, blocking his exit. "Guards, escort my son to his quarters. I want 10 men stationed at every entrance and exit. He is forbidden to leave them without my permission. And if he gets out..." his smile turned almost wicked, "Every man on duty will be sent to the dungeon for five years."

"My king..." the guard stuttered, shocked. They were all shocked. Even the queen was shocked. The king in turn just stared into his sons face, a smirk there, daring him to see if he was serious about his threat or not.

Aiden stopped mid stride he had known his father was going to have the guards stop him. however when his father made that horrible order regarding him escaping, Aiden turned to look at his father. â??I donâ??t know you anymore old man. Very well I will remain, but do not ever come and see me in my quarters as of now I do not know you as my father I will obey your commands but I will never see your face again.â? He turned and left the room going with the guards to his quarters.

A few hours passed. The air in the whole castle was tense. Silence. No one had seen the king and prince this angry with one another and the biggest question was why. What had been the last straw?

A knock came at the door before it opened on it's own. On of the guards allowed the queen access to her son's quarters. She did not expect him to show her any kind of affection or even acknowledge meant after what had happened, so she just came and sat in the seat nearest to where he was sulking, "The king believes that you are just not spending enough time getting to know your potential brides. That you never get to just speak to one at a time. He has decided that every eligible lady of noble birth will come to spend on evening and one night here in the palace. You will share time with them, dinner, see them to their room and share a morning meal with them as well before they are escorted home the following morning. This will go on every day until all are seen or you find one you like..."

Aiden sighed finishing off the rest of his drink in one quick gulp. He stood slowly setting the glass on the table. He leaned against the mantle for a long moment just staring into the fire. â??Mother, what is the chance that a normal girl that for all intents and purposes is very common having an air of high nobility about her?â? he turned to look into his motherâ??s eyes hoping that she would agree with him that it was unlikely for a peasant girl to have such an air about them. Even though he had become convinced by Cristaâ??s constant insistence that she was not noble, now that he thought of it he had to admit he still found it unlikely.

That was certainly not the response his mother had been expecting. She had been ready to counter his reaction to his father's orders. She didn't have anything ready for him changing the subject like that. "I... I don't know if I understand what you are asking me Aiden. Nobility can sometimes act as normal people though... I don't know many nobility that TRY. As for normal people trying to seen noble, I think that would be much more common. People that think themselves better then they are.... I... I suppose? Why Aiden do you ask me that?"

He sighed coming back over and sitting across from his mother looking into her eyes. He didnâ??t know how his mother would react to what he was going to say but he knew that she had reacted with surprise when he had mentioned it before. â??That girl that I was supposedly caught trying to rape. I have been seeing her for some time spending hours just talking to her and spending time getting to know her.â? he looked back to the fire, â??if you ask her she has no nobility about her in anyway, but she just hadâ?¦I donâ??t know a presence about her.â? he snapped his fingers, â??I gave her a ladies fan once that she had been wishing she could buy for herself, without any prompting from me she took to the art of the fan perfectly. Like she had been doing it her whole life, but there is no way she was a noble not with the bruises I saw on her today.â?

His mother sat there, listening to all her son had to say. And she could tell just from the way he spoke of this girl, the tone of his voice as he mentioned her... "You care for this girl Aiden..." she didn't ask it as a question, but spoke it as a statement.
