Juliet was indeed to worried about her husband making attempts at the beautiful Crista that she could stare right at her husband with her own daughter and not see what was so plain as day right there.
Keeping Crista under her thumb was her main focus. Not only with Dilian, but with anyone at all. Juliet smiled a little to herself as she sipped her wine. That fool late husband of hers had kept the girl so humble that she didn't even know the truth. All this, the manor, the land, the title... was hers upon marriage. Crista was the only rightful heir to the title left. The title of baron and baroness was meant to stay in the blood line and if Crista were to ever marry, the title would go to her and her husband. So... Crista could never marry. She had to stay in the world Juliet created. A world where she was nothing better then a slave. Not even a servant. A slave. Her self esteem had to stay nice and low.
Little did Juliet know how her hold was already starting to slip and how events to come within the next month would try to break the hold all together.
"I will be visiting with Lady Gargon this afternoon. She sent me a note telling me that she has some juicy gossip involving the prince and his search for a bride. It might be nothing at all, but then again it could be useful to us in the future. Susanna, Daniella, will you join me?"
Susanna gave a nod, "Of course mother. Don't I always?" And that was the truth. Susanna tried to much to impress her mother and tagged along with her as often as she could. But try as she might, she did not have a dark heart as her mother did. That didn't mean she didn't try.
"Not today mother. I should like to see if the books that little slut picked up for me are more to my liking," replied Daniella. The whole while, she was giving Dilian a smile and a glance. Their would be no reading this afternoon. Not by a long shot.
