“I do a lot of that myself when I am not interested in the gentleman.” She said simply with a shrug of her shoulders before fanning herself. “We moved here from England when I was about five year old… We are originally from Cornwall and my father was of a low nobility. Naturally, he did not have much for money but was offered a position here in the colonies and he obviously took it. This was all before the umm… business with what is happening.” She did not want to talk much about the politics since it was not proper. “And well, only the youngest was born here in the colonies but it is now our home. I don’t even remember England at all. My earlier memory was being on the ship crossing to our new home.”
“I have two brothers, and two sisters…” And her two brothers were in the British military but she did not mention that since it was again not proper. The man was a Patriot and she was rethinking being interested in this. Perhaps, she ought to scare him off.
Then again, she could also get information from him if she were to become close enough… even become a fiancée and then, she could help with the British cause. “You met Frances but there is also Elizabeth who is too young to come to the ball. And then, my brothers… Andrew and Arthur.” She explained. “And of course, Mama and Papa as well as Aunt Susan.” She explained. “Most of our other family are still over in England.” She thought she was related to Dukes and Duchesses but that was not something to be bragging about as she once had before.
She thought about what he had said about her beauty and smiled a little to herself. “My, are we not perhaps a bit daring.” A smirk gracing her red tinted lips as she patted her dark hair a little. It was piled on top of her head in a coiffure with a string of pearls around it for decoration. Her gown which had been touched up was a pale sunshine yellow with wide hips of the panniers that were so in fashion. She had also sewn little dark pink fabric rosebuds on the dress to make it stand out along with similar coloured ribbons. “I suppose I do not mind it when the gentlemen is rather handsome.” She was feeling mischievous before sipping a little more of her punch laced with the rum.
“Ah… yes, the cause.” She was not so interested anymore if he was going to talk about that. “I do not know much about it… I only worry for the well-being of my family.” And that was her stand on that in public.
