He decided to keep quiet about what he knew about the events with Ellie and Joel. "I'll just say that they had the idea to save the human race, however, their plan backfired on them." He didn't bother even mentioning that he was there when it happened. "At least, that's what I heard." He watched as she emptied the clip into the moving targets. Her demeanor changed once the mentioning of Sara came out.
He could feel a brooding aura around her. She wanted to see her to apologize? True, if it wasn't for either of their cocky attitudes, the entire event probably would not have happened. Sara's condition was stable, but the scientist and doctors weren't sure that she wouldn't still be infected. She of course was in the basement of the hospital being monitored 24/7 and he couldn't have her seeing anything down there. "I can't let you see her. Not yet. Her condition is stable. That's all I can tell you right now." Only when she would be cleared by the doctor's and moved up to the above floors with the other patients would Mariah or anyone else be able to see her.
If it had been anyone else that got bit, then Desmond would not have tried to remove the infection and let it spread in hopes of finding an angel, but he couldn't let one of the few officers he had just parish away. "Besides, it's not your fault that any of that happened. It's my responsibility to keep this city infection free and I failed. For that, I apologize to you and everyone else that was put in danger." It's true that the subway entrance wasn't a likely entrance point for the infected before, but now with this new information of mutated beings, anything is possible. "The only thing that I need you to be worried about is bettering yourself if you want to stay alive and help protect the city."
