Breaststroke and other innuendos (Charliesweb7 & Crusade)

"Really an ideal location. I'd love to live out here. I've just never gotten away from the city," he said, smiling as he nodded and followed her inside, eager to meet her dogs she had always talked about. If he was going to be staying there for a while, he was going to have to acclimate himself to them. He didn't have a dog of his own, but he'd wanted one.

"I am home babies!" She called out. You could hear nails clicking on the ground. Then she was met with two dogs. One was a young Great Dane pup. However, he was still massive. He was blue with spots on him. The next one was a reddish colored Golden Retriever. "This is Mo..." She replied, pointing to the great dane. "And this is Finn." She pointed to the golden. Mo let out a howl at the man. Of course, it seemed more like a half howl/yelp. She laughed and shook her head.

"Well, hello, hello," Ryan said, dropping to a knee to show both dogs equal amounts of attention. They were awesome and immediately Ryan could sense that he was going to enjoy living there just fine. The only problem he could see was not wanting to ever leave. He had the best of every world. A roommate who was gorgeous and could cook and a couple of awesome dogs to share company with when he was alone. Didn't get much better than that.

"This is a killer place," he said, looking around as he gave a pet to both dogs. "And you got two great guys here, too."

Finn wagged his tail happily, nuzzling the hand. He just loved attention. He was older and more adjusted. Mo almost tripped over himself. He sniffed and then accepted being pet before then galloping off. "Thanks. They are sweet. After dinner we can cuddle! You will feel better. They are just big lap dogs." She explained, clapping her hands before heading off into the kitchen. "I just need to feed them." She called out. The kitchen was a nice deep red with beautiful wood cabinets and shining granite counter tops. "I might have some wine if you want some..." She explained.

"Cuddles sound awesome," he said, following Aurora into the kitchen. He looked around a bit and just found himself in awe of every corner of the place. "And so does wine..." he added when she brought it up. "Can I do anything? Help with dinner in any way? Don't hesitate to boss me around. I owe you," he said with a smile, the thought of filling her up with his own proper dessert temporarily clouding his mind.

Aurora went over, picking up both food bowls and then going into the pantry. She got food, bringing it out and setting it down. "I will find something." She replied to him honestly. She crossed to her fridge, opening it and pulling things out. "Once I season the chicken, you could cook that while I do the risotto and green beans." She suggested to him. "Sound good?" She asked, looking to him.

"That's a lot of pressure, but I think I can handle it. If I end up burning it, just know that it wasn't intentional." He grinned and watched her grab the dogs their food. He couldn't understand how things had gone from bad to good so quickly, but for the first time, he found himself not even thinking about April. Aurora had done a great job making him forget. He felt like he owed her for that as much as the place to crash.

"Well, I am sure you will be fine." She said, moving around her kitchen quickly and easily. She took out a handful of spices, then grabbing a cutting board. On the stove, she placed a pan with a little olive oil in it. She made sure to wash her hands before setting the chicken on the cutting board. "What is your favorite meal?" She asked him curiously. She started seasoning the chicken breasts, making sure to add a little kick form cayenne.

Ryan watched Aurora make her way around the kitchen like a professional. He was impressed as he watched her, unable to decipher whether or not she was better in a pool or in the kitchen. He thought about her question for a moment, dwelling on it before finally deciding. "I don't think I have one favorite dish. I'm just a fan of flavors. Bold flavors are always good. I like a kick. Something I haven't experienced before. Things like that," he said, realizing he hadn't technically answered her, but it was hard pinning down one actual favorite. "What about you?"

Aurora flipped the chicken breasts over, then seasoning them before smiling to him. She carried the cutting board over, placing the pieces of chicken into the hot pan and hearing the sizzle. "I like a lot of foods. It is hard to say a favorite.." She explained, carrying the cutting board over and placing it in the sink. She washed her hands again, drying them off. "But I am a sucker for Chinese food." She told him.

"I try eating healthy to keep in shape, but there's so many temptations out there. I feel like if I don't give in once in a while, I'll go insane. It's not even as important now that I'm not swimming as regularly, but I still try keeping it healthy. Smells good already, Aurora. You sure you want me manning this station?" he asked as he headed over to her once it looked like she waa ready to make the transition.

"I eat relatively healthy. I mean, there will be a day soon that I am not swimming. And I better not be eating a lot of junk. But I do have weaknesses." She told him gently. She then looked back to him. "Just keep and eye on it. Try turning it in 4 minutes." She explained. She started on the green beans, heating up oil there and in another pan.

Ryan did as she said, his eyes focused on the chicken, not wanting to fuck up their first meal together because he couldn't flip some chicken. After a while, he turned them, thankful to find them browned and not burnt on the underside. "So, what are your plans after you graduate? I don't even know your major," he asked, realizing there was still a lot about Aurora he was totally in the dark about.

She was being a little lazy and using frozen green beans. She dumped them into the pan, then putting seasoning over them. Aurora looked to Ryan when he spoke. "Oh, just working I guess. Hope I can find a job." She replied to him and then dumping the rice in and stirring quickly. "Biology and Chemistry double major with French and Biology Anthropology as my minors." She mentioned to him. He probably didn't even know what she had been doing. Sure they talked but then again they were not the best of friends. Didn't know everything about each other. "So I will still be around for another year. Not sure if I can swim another year though..." She replied to him.

"Wow," he said, quirking an eyebrow as he looked over at her, the tongs he'd been using to flip the chicken still in his hand. "I didn't realize you had that much on your plate. No pun intended. You're more than welcome to practice with us and everything next year. You just wouldn't be able to compete. I wish I could give you a fifth year of eligibility." Aurora was by far his best swimmer, but he wanted her around for more than just that talent.

So, she was sticking around. It seemed like all the more reason to let his guard down and see what happens.

Aurora laughed gently as he spoke, her stirring the rice around to get it brown. "Yeah, it is a lot. But Hey, it is just scheduling right?" She added. More or less it meant no social life between swimming and school. "I can always ask the NCAA but I highly doubt they will allow it." She replied to him. "I just don't know what I will do without swimming. I feel like that and school have been my entire life since I can remember." She told him, then starting to add chicken stock, hearing the loud simmer.

"I totally get what you mean. When I was in school, I had no intentions of being a swim coach. I mean, I always wanted to have swimming be a part of my life, but actually a career? I guess if you love it that much, it follows you. But, like I said, you're always welcome. You can be my assistant. Who better to help these kids than the best swimmer on campus?" Ryan smirked at her, but he was being serious. He'd never seen anyone as talented as her. When it was all said and done, he was sure she'd have wah more banners than him over the pool.

"Well, I mean I would love to coach in the future. It is something enjoyable. In the summers when I was a lifeguard, I enjoyed my swim lessons." She replied. She added more liquid, slowly until everything was absorbed. She laughed softly at the mention of assistant. "The assistant coach needs and assistant?" She teased him. She wasn't big on her bragging about what she had done. She didn't care about the banners at the school. It was just a banner to her.

"Well, I don't need one, but I'm just trying to give you a reason to be around. I'd like it as much as you would, I'm sure," he said. He knew how he was coming off, but he really didn't care. Aurora made him feel welcome in her home, she was cooking them dinner and she'd made him all but forget about April and his failed relationship.

"That smells incredible. I'm beginning to wonder if there's anything you can't do," he said, tucking his hands into his pockets as he watched her work. He was used to doing it while she swam, but he wouldn't be blowing his whistle and critiquing her cooking.

"I will talk to coach about it. I am not sure. Sometimes I just wonder about a lot of things." She replied. Sometimes, Aurora felt like she had nothing figure out in her life. It really did suck sometimes. Other times, everything was together. Aurora noticed that he was keen on keeping her around. But she didn't make a comment about it. She glanced back to him when he spoke. "I can't whistle...I can't watch those ASPCA commercials without crying. I cannot jump on a pogo stick." She listed just a few. She shrugged her shoulders. "There is plenty of things I cannot do or I suck at. I am no where near perfect." She reminded him.

"Fair enough, fair enough," he said, smiling at her. It wasn't like her not being able to pogo was going to be a deal breaker. "So, where do you keep the plates and all that good stuff? I might as well set the table and be of some help to you," he added, doing just that. He returned to her once he'd done so, figuring dinner would have to be ready shortly. The smell of the food had completely overtaken the room.

She wasn't even perfect in swimming. Someone could easily beat her. She smiled gently and then pointed to the cabinet next to their heads. "That would be really nice. Wine should be in the pantry if you would like to see." She replied. Sure, Aurora liked a drink here and there but not very often. She wasn't a heavy drinker. More social and only at parties. Drinking along wasn't fun right? She moved away from the stove, grabbing a few things out of the fridge and then dumping them into the pot. "It has been forever since I had someone over." She mentioned to him.

"Some wine sounds good," he said, heading off to the pantry to search for some. He found a decent looking bottle of merlot and grabbed it, carrying it and two glasses to the table. He poured them and left the bottle on the table for refills.

"Yeah? Is it because of how busy you are? I can't imagine there being any other reason," he said, knowing Aurora was gorgeous and charming. She had to have a ton of friends.

She was just about done, turning off the stove for the burners. She stirred the risotto, hoping it was good. "Oh well, I am generally by myself." She mentioned. She had close friends...but she was just rather lonely. While her friends were partying, she was at home studying or swimming. She didn't get invited all the time because she was so "busy" and all. Thankfully she had her dogs.

"If you're not sick of me yet and I do take you up on your offer, you won't have to worry about being alone," he said. "After all, our schedules are pretty similar so there's a good chance if you're home, I will be, too," he added, liking the thought of that probably a little too much.

He still didn't know what would come of their arrangement, but in a way, he wanted more than just mere friendship. Was it wrong to think that way so soon after a breakup? Who cares? April had done it while they were still engaged.
