(Distain And Raven)

She laughed as answered her question. "You thought I was an angel or a demon?" she said, the laugh still in her voice. "No, I'm much more lowly than that. I'm just your run-of-the-mill freak. A freak with feathers." She closed her eyes, feeling his hand on her back. It felt nice as he slid it up her back, not having felt a gentle touch in years.

"You can call me Raven." she said, dropping the towel and slipping into the shirt he held out for her now, trying to ignore the fact that he could see her breasts again. "What can I call you?" she asked as he finished putting the shirt on her, and leaving her to button herself up. A gentleman too for not peeking. "You can forget the pins." she said, doing the last button. She moved her arms and wings around a little, making sure everything was comfy. "I'd rather you didn't use them." she wasn't going to tell him that the sight of any object resembling a needle would send her reeling. She folded her wings against her back again before she knocked anything over. "Thank you, for all this."

"You can call me Nathan, or Nate what ever you feel like. " He said softly turning back around to see her stretching smiling it was quite the impressive sight. "I have to do something those slits will drive you nuts. " He said softly gently the sides of the cloth together as he moved behind her pulling the shirt tight around her stomach. He kept it lose enough to be comfortable but tight enough to fit more like it should. Gently tying it in 2 knots one at the bottom of the shirt and another that would pull the shirt tight just under her breasts. "You know that shirt actually looks good on you like that. I am glad i could help. " He said softly purposely moving close to her as he slipped from the room his hand and arm gently touching her wing.

A chill ran down his spine feeling the soft feathers against his skin it was amazing that they were real. He then went into his room gathering 2 blankets and a set of sheets adding 2 pillows from his extras and moving into the living room. "Have you eaten recently? I know it is getting kind of late but... If you have not eaten today I can see if i have something you would like. " He moved quickly making the couch into a bed, laying one blanket down on the couch first to help keep not wanting to let the girl freeze. He then put a the sheets on the couch and another blanket pulling them back so she could cover herself up later. Leaving the pillows at one end he smiled and turned to her. "If this does not work out so well we can just let me know. " He said softly not certain how long she would want to stay knowing she was on the run from someone. "Can you fly?" He blurted out looking at her his curiosity getting the better of him.

She tugged on the shirt a bit after he tied the knots, noticing that he had made the shirt tighter under her breasts, accentuating them. She glanced up at him, wondering if he had done that on purpose. She followed him out of the room, noticing him touching her wing again. He was going to have to be careful with that, or she would probably hit him on accident if he surprised her.

"I ate earlier, not sure if you could call that crap food though." she said, standing near the couch as he fix it up. "Guess that means I'm crashing here tonight?" She was a little worried about staying with a stranger. He had been nice to her (aside from nearly shooting her) but she still didn't know much about him. Not to mention he was clearly much older than she was.

She looked back up at him when he asked her if she could fly. She shrugged, and added, "I don't think you would have found me like you did if I could. I don't know how to fly, and I haven't really attempted to yet. Too busy running from the bad guys." Nearly every bit of her body had been changed to make her able to fly. But no one, not even the scientists who designed her, knew if she was actually able to fly. She had only been out a few hours, and she wasn't going to attempt to fly when their were dogs chasing her.

He smiled and reached to his belt taking the knife able to sense she was nervous placing it under her pillow thinking she was scared to be defenseless. "If you need anything just say something I will leave my door unlocked. I will warn you though I don't respond well when woken up so... I would not be in the room if you need to wake me up. " He said softly a bit of shame in his voice sad he could not control himself all the time. He then turned and went into his room taking the rifle and emptying it setting it by the door if she wanted to shoot him with it she would have a cruel surprise waiting for her. Slipping the pistol from his jacket under his pillow he stripped to his boxers crawling into bed burring himself into the covers drifting off quickly.

"Ok." she said, wondering exactly what he meant when he said he didn't take well to being woken up. She decided to just not wake him up. She saw him pull out the knife, and she got a little nervous until he saw him put the silver blade under her pillow. She waited until he was gone and then lay down on the couch She had to sleep on her side, facing the back of the couch so her wings wouldn't be crumpled. Laying there in the quiet dark she decided that she would leave in the morning. The guards would surely find his house in the day, and she didn't trust this man. A soldier was just too dangerous. She wrapped her wings around her body, like an extra blanket and slowly closed her sapphire eyes, and fell asleep.

He slept rather soundly only tossing and turning a bit threw the night and remaining fairly quiet. It was not long after they had went to bed that he woke just after dawn setting on the edge of the bed assuming everything he had seen and heard last night was a dream. Seeing the empty rifle he was wondering how badly the delusion had take over him he reloaded the rifle and slipped the pistol into the back of his boxers. Turning into the hall he froze there was someone sleeping on his couch it was real. He stood there staring for several long minuets before turning around putting on a pair of jeans and a tank top. Leaving his large Marine Corps. tattoo on his left bicep visible also a dark pink scar just above his left peck on the front and back of his torso.

He was just about to prepare breakfast gathering a pan and reaching for a plate when a red light filled the entire home. Someone was on his property they had tripped the sensor he put up around his house to let him know if anyone or anything was out there. He moved quickly to the girls side on the bed remembering her saying onto surprise her he stood before her head gently touching her shoulder. "Raven wake up we need to hide you. " He said softly gently shaking her his whole body ready to react in case she was startled.

"Let me sleep in you damn white-coat asshole." she mumbled, not fully awake. She peeked her eyes open, glancing around a bit. Everything looked red, tinted from his alarm light. She could see a cushion in front of her, rather than the usual concrete wall. She felt someone shaking her gently and she looked up, seeing Nate. "What's going on?" she asked, starting to come to consciousness. He looked worried, and that woke her up quick and she sat up, glancing around. Her wings unfurled part way, her left wing nudging his hip a bit.

He smiled when she called him a white coat ass whole she clearly had spirit and he admired that. When her wing touched his thigh his hand went to pet it gently absently his fingers tracing the firm bone with the feathers not wanting to hurt her. "There is someone outside I need to hide you in case they try to come in and look for you. " He said softly his voice calm and reassuring clearly he was not scared by what ever was out there. "I have a small area under my house that they will never find but we need to get you there now. " He said softly moving over across the room gripping the carpet and lifting it up slowly revealing a small hidden door.

She shivered and pulled her wings close to her body, feeling his fingers moving across the surface of her wing. She sat up, the blankets sliding off her body. She grabbed the knife from under her pillow, holding it close to her in case anyone tried to capture her. Very quickly she got up and crossed the room following him to the hidden door. She was scared again, her hands shaking. He might be calm, but he had a gun, and not some very angry people after him who wanted to trie her down and stab her with needles, and...she trembled and shook her head, trying to rid herself of those images.

He moved quickly to the bed gathering all the bedding and tossing it into the small room with her. "Make yourself comfortable there is water in there if your thirsty but please don't make to much noise. " He smiled at her as she moved into the room that was not much bigger then a pair of jail cells only about 20 feet by 10 feet. A small cot sat across the room several jugs of water lined the wall in a rack along with several metal crates that held canned food. He closed her in quickly and turned off the alarm gathering his jacket slipping it on putting his pistol in its holster. The rifle in his hands as he walked out onto the deck locking the door behind him acting perfectly normal like he was just going out to try to catch a bite to eat. His rifle hanging over his shoulder as he walked from the deck looking around nonchalantly.

She went down into the room, looking up and watching him close the door behind her. She was very nervous, and his room, though larger, was a lot like her old cell. Even the cot looked the same. She gathered the bedding and walked over to the cot and lay down, wrapping her wings around her body and holding the knife close. She stared at the door, ready for someone to either rescue her or try and capture her. If it was the latter she was ready to kill whoever came after her. She was at an advantage too, hidden under the blankets, and only one person could enter the room at a time.

Nathan walked outside before hearing someone yelling freeze he turned raising his rifle and pointing it at the small cluster of soldiers. Yelling out to them as he took in all their locations trying to decide if he could take the fight to them or not. "Who the fuck do you think you are to come onto my property and order me around!" He glared flicking a switch and turning on the laser dot sight pointing at the one who appeared to be the leader. "What the hell are you doing here?" All their weapons came to bear on him and he realized 6 to one was a bit much giving his position in the open.

"We are looking for something and the trail lead us here. You are going to let us look threw your property for what we are searching for. " He said sternly looking at the soldier in front of him no one appearing to waver in their intense stand off. Nathan barked back he had came out here to avoid being ordered around and he was not about to do so now. "If you messed up a single one of my traps i will hunt you down and kill you. What are you looking for that gives you the right to trample my land. " The man hissed and explained a winged creature that had escaped from a test facility. "I think your as drunk as i was last night I saw something out here last night when i opened my door to chase it off it flew off to the north. "

He laughed pretending to be remembering a drunken dream lowering his rifle slowly. "Now if you don't mind... get the hell off my land. " The men seemed to all try to play along with the joke not wanting him to believe them anyways to reveal their top secret tests. "If you see anything strange call the police and we will come check things out. " He glared at them pointing to the north off his land hoping they would leave soon. Moving to the porch he stood there watching them as the moved north out of sight. Once the coast was clear he stepped inside setting the rifle on the table moving to the trap door. Opening it and hoping in slowly not thinking to announce himself in his own home.

She was very very quiet. Not even her breathing made a sound. It was difficult, but she was sure she heard yelling outside. Harsh words, she was sure, but she couldn't make anything out. Her heart, already pumping too fast for a normal human, beat faster, and her ears started to ring.

She heard someone coming. She was still, not even breathing anymore. She heard the carpet move, and she tensed, ready to take on whatever had come to get her. The door opened, and a figure came in, slow and cautious. Adrenalin flooded her veins, the flight or fight response taking over her brain. She had to kill to the figure.

She opened her wings, throwing them upward. The blankets that hid her were tossed into the air, serving as a distraction. Meanwhile Raven crouched and sprang forth, beating her wings to accelerate her forward, silver blade flashing as she aimed for the heart. She moved with inhuman speed, attacking the intruder.

He was stunned when she charged forward why was she attacking him and then he realized he had not gave the all clear. He could not believe how fast she was faster then anyone he had ever seen she made Bruce Lee look like a sloth. He took a quick breath and let his instincts take over his hand moving much slower then hers but his timing was flawless. His hand struck her arm and drove the tip of the blade away from his chest as he shifted his angle away from her. He winced as the blade buried itself into his arm slicing a half inch deep gash from one side of his arm to the next.

His hand gripped her wrist tightly planting his food and turn with her pinning her with a gently firmness to the wall. His heart was racing and it was taking everything he could do to keep from attacking her in defense. Holding her tight to the wall he looked into her eyes his hand holding the blade where it was not wanting to make it worse. His shoulder pressed into her breasts lightly as he held her to the wall with it. "It is Nate! Raven calm down im not going to hurt you let go of the knife!"

Raven was quite surprised when her attack was deflected. So surprised that she almost dropped the knife. She held tight to it though, and felt the blade bite and tear into flesh. She was briefly aware of this, because the next second she was slammed against a wall. She let out a cry of frustration, pain and surprise. Her wings were crushed under her, squished uncomfortably against the wall. She was about to fight against him when she heard Nathan's familiar voice. Her eyes widened, realizing suddenly what she had done. Slowly she loosened her grip on the knife, her hand shaking now. "I'm sorry." she whispered, hoping she hadn't done too much damage. Her stomach twisted at the thought.

He gently took the knife from her tossing it to the ground as he backed away slowly his hand going from her wrist to her cheek. He gently patted her cheek looking into her eyes reassuringly his hand gently pulling her head down and into his neck slipping his wounded arm around her back. He was less worried about the wound on his arm then he was about making sure they small girl stopped shaking. "Shhhh don't worry every thing is going to be okay why don't you lay down and ill go fix my arm... Then i will make us some breakfast don't worry Raven your safe. " He said softly wanting her to know he was not mad at her for stabbing him trying to get her to relax.

She was barely breathing, having gone into a bit of shock. What was wrong with her? "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. Let me help you...oh god, I can't believe I did that to you..." she knew he was trying to comfort her but she didn't deserve that. Here was a man who had helped her out, kept her safe in his home, and she replayed it by stabbing him. Her wings drooped a bit as tried to comfort her, almost wishing he was mad at her.

"Go make your bed on the couch and ill fix my arm I it is not the first time i have been wounded. "He smiled patting her cheek lightly slowly pulling away from her and taking the knife gently from him. He looked at her slowly backing away as his sleeve was not red with blood. He moved quickly threw the house and into the bathroom taking off his shirt and setting to work on the wound. With in minuets he had it cleaned and was beginning to stitch himself up. Wincing softly with each gently tug giving himself stitches was his least favorite thing to do. And the 3 inch gash was going to take a lot of them to get it to close right.

She frowned, still feeling terrible. But she did as he said, and climbed out of the hidden room, covering the door with the carpet so that is was hidden again. She dropped the bedding onto the couch, only making a half-hearted effort, to put it back the way it was this morning. She hugged her knees and wrapped her wings around her, waiting for him. Her guilt grew as she sat, festering until she got up and decided to check on him. She went to the bathroom, seeing him stitching himself up with a needle.

She felt suddenly very dizzy seeing the thin needle flashing in the light. The blood drained from her face and with only the slightest hesitation she ran back into the living room. She lay, curled up in a fetal position, on the couch, waiting for him to finish, and trying to ignore the images in her head.

He looked at her confused when she fled the room thinking all the blood was making her a bit queasy he shrugged it off. Moving slowly once it was done he cleaned the wound and took a deep breath wrapping his arm with an ace bandage and some gause before moving from the room. He walked out seeing her trembling he moved to her thinking she was still upset about cutting him and knelt down before her. He had seen that look before the fear and the memories of pain he knew it well.

His hand gently touched her shoulder lightly petting it gently as he knelt next to her his free hand moving to touch her wing. She had warned him about its strength and he did not want her getting scared and hitting him with it. "Raven are you okay? My arm is going to be fine you did not hurt me that bad babe don't worry about it. " He said softly turning his arm so she could see it clearly visible though heavily bandaged.

Her dark eyes glanced her his arm. It looked much like the bandages on her stomach, and she hoped it wasn't much worse than her minor cuts. She looked away, back as the couch. "I thought you were one of them. They are not allowed to kill me, not yet at least. I thought killing that person was my only way out. I couldn't go back to that place, living in a tiny cage. Where my nightmares were just as bad as the waking world." She extended her arm, showing it to him. It looked like the arm of a drug user, someone who had been injected too many times. It explained her fear of needles. "I was sure it was them, that you had told them where I was...I'm sorry, I don't think I can ever apologize enough."

He nodded as she spoke of her past and he took her hand gently giving it a soft squeeze. He smiled and took her blanket laying it over her gently to keep her warm. " You can stop saying your sorry I am not mad at you for hurting me. I understand you where scared and i did not warn you i was coming down. It was my fault not yours and you did not hurt me to badly so please stop saying your sorry. " He smiled and gently touched her cheek patting it lightly before whispering softly. "So... What would you like for breakfast? I am hungry and if i don't get something to eat you may stop looking like a pretty girl and start looking like chicken." He chuckled hoping that some playful banter would calm her down and maybe even cheer her up.

She smiled softly at his joke, knowing he was trying to make her feel better, and squeezed his hand as he held it. "Ok. I'll stop. But you cook whatever you want for breakfast. Trust me, anything will be far better than what I have been fed recently. I can help you cook if you want." she wasn't sure what she could do, she wasn't great chef, but she felt like she had to pay him back, both for hurting him, and his hospitality.

"You just stay here all curled up with a cute smile on your face and your helping me cook. " He smiled reaching down patting her shoulder gently. "I will cook it will be fine. " He smiled and went out to the kitchen deciding to cook waffles instead of bacon and eggs. The thought of giving a bird eggs was a bit unnerving to him. "Have you always had those wings?" He said as he mixed the batter closing his eyes as he said it. He sounded like an idiot and he knew he was crossing into things that where none of his business knowing. "Sorry i should not ask you about those things forget i said anything. "

She smiled as he patted her shoulder, watching him walk into the kitchen. She stared to play with a feather on her wing while listening to him getting the ingredients together and mixing things. "Its alright, I really don't mind. I was born with my wings, but they were removed after my birth. They had designed me like this, but they wanted to have someone who had lived in the real world, who fit in and knew how people worked. When they thought I was old enough they took me back to the lab, and gave me these ones." she said as she lifted a wing. "They had to surgically attach them. I never knew that I was different, but I guess they had planned that for me all along."
