In some ways it was the most surreal situation she had been in since she had been in Vietnam. A barrack room that really doesn't feel like an ordinary barrack room; suddenly there is a warmth about it that doesn't just come from the humidity of the South East Asian climate. The lights have everything feeling soft completing contradicting the usual hardness of the tin and wood. Before Spade had lit the first roll-up 'cigarette' Sam was pretty sure what it was and once it was lit the aroma confirmed it. She hesitated for a moment... this certainly wasn't the way an officer should be acting, but then she probably shouldn't be in here with the four of them full stop. After a moment or two, she took the offered joint and very much enjoyed her share of it. Whether it was the warmth and the softness of everything, whether it was the alcohol or the dope or a combination of it all, she didn't think she had been so relaxed since she had been in-country. And so when each man asked for a dance she was more than content to do just that. By that time the music had quietened and slowed and the dances, perhaps also as a consequence of the alcohol and the dope and the atmosphere, became slow and almost sultry.
FInally, someone suggested that they play poker and the guys all took a seat around the table. Tex had been the last one to dance with Sam and when the game was suggested he walked her over to the table but then manoeuvred her such that she finished up sitting on his one knee. As Motown dealt the cards, he suggested the idea of strip poker. She stared at him for a moment and then laughed out loud.
"Hang on... instead of taking my money from me, you want to take my clothes? And wouldn't we be starting fro a somewhat unfair position." She saw the question on his face as he grinned back. "You guys have boots and socks and shirts... I have shoes and a dress! That hardly seems fair."
