Story thread there: http://www.bluemoonroleplaying.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12020

I just want to know if anyone is interested in this idea. The world it's based off of is a fantasy world for a novel I've had in the works since I was five. I'm not putting in the acutal story or the characters, just the setting and the boiling point. If i get enough people interested, I'd like to do this as an open roleplay.

Basic story:

There are four kingdoms involved. Anstaria (situated in the middle of the map) has been at war for as long as anyone could remember with Loidi. The two kingdoms seemed to always butt heads, no matter the topic. Anstaria believed in protecting its women, while Loidi gave theirs more freedoms. Anstaria was pro-science and anti-magic, and Loidi still put stock in court wizards and healers. War tore the two kingdoms apart and the strain finally got to the respective kings.

Calling on a truce meeting, they invited two moderators from neighboring kingdoms. For Anstaria, the kingdom of Danbar is invited, their allies in the south. For Loidi, it was a surprise when they arrived with delegates from Goldspar, a warring kingdom to the far north that is in a constant state of politica upheaval. Both mediators have reasons for the status quo to continue and keep the truce from being signed.

The Kingdoms:

Anstaria (Anstarians)

This is the most rigid kingdom of the four kingdoms. As the loser of the long-ago war that started this mess, they took several steps to never have that problem. After the end of the Hexen wars, Anstaria outlawed magic in all forms. They formed the Ritter Hex, special knights who hunt down any rumors of magic in the boundaries of the kingdom and erradicate it. They are the toughest warriors, and the products of nightmares. After the break of the kingdom, causing the princess to run off with a wizard and forming her own land of Hekata, the ruling Anstarian king had a wall built around the kingdom to keep out the evil influences of the other kingdoms. In time, only Danbar and a few other select kingdoms were let inside.

Women do not have much freedom. They must, at all times, be escorted when they leave. The women's quarters are always found away from the men unless he calls for his wife. A woman can own land if her husband is dead, but it is highly advisable for her to remarry quickly. The poor have more freedom then nobility, where women can work beside her husband and even have the run of the home.

Anstaria is ruled by the king and his son. The daughter is prized by her family and knows she will never inherit the throne and a perfect marriage is one that wouldn't jeopedize the throne of her homeland.

Loidi (Loidites)

The near polar opposite of Anstaria. As the winner of the Hexen War, they enjoy the magic and prestigue of their victory. They are very pro-magic, more so then any other kingdom. Magic is a way of life, and they look down on the Anstarians for their superstition (who, in turn, look down on the Loidites for being agents of evil). Through magic, they claim to be able to do anything that the science of Anstaria can do. When the idea of the truce came through, the prince of Loidi saw it as a great way to gain control over their enemies once he found out about the princess. However, he isn't stingy on how he gets to the Anstarian throne and is willing to settle, if need be, on using magic to get them to give up their kingdom and end the fighting.

Women in Loidi are equal to the men. They have the same freedoms as the men. They can own land and trade property and even fight in the army. They have a chance to get as much education as a man.

The ruling family of Loidi is the king, queen, the elder son and the younger son (who is training to be a wizard) and the uncle.

Danbar (Danbarians)

This kingdom has enjoyed exclusive trading rights with Anstaria. A kingdom that does rely on magic, but enjoys the scientific advances of Anstaria. Their women have some freedoms, but not as much as Loidi. The women can own land and property, but their education is restricted and it is encouraged that they marry and stay with a man for protection.

Goldspar (Goldsparites)

This kingdom is untrustworthy. Always in a political upheaval, they have a new ruling party nearly every year. Magic and assassinations are the norm. They are greedy and manipulative. The current ruler wants the rich land of Loidi, but will take Anstaria if they can. To get this, they are hoping to convince the two kingdoms that peace is out of the question, and pitting the delegates and hormonally driven heirs against each other seems to be a good idea.

Because you said "Skin that looks as if a sword would just slid off as it hits her"

Which in no way implies "Soft" to me. In fact it implies hard and smooth. Like some polished steel.

Whoohoo! I have a Ritter Hex!

Ser Gareth Eloran

Personality: He keeps a calm demeanor in mundane situations, and is honorable and chivalrous and is generally a fine knight. He is known to have lots of hidden passion and suppressed emotion, he tries to keep it hidden but sometimes he breaks loose.

Bio: He was a son of a Lordly house in Anstaria, the Elorans of Lorenvale. Lorenvale was a small but important barony, it was nestled in between two great mountain ranges, it's lands were fertile and rich in ores, and it's strategic position on the mountain range forming one border to Loida made it an important defense point. The Elorans of old had a mighty fort built into the mountain (The Howling Castle, because it stood in front of the moon, it's towers forming the shape of a wolf on its haunches with it's head looking to the sky), blocking the easiest pass in, and Lorenvale had several other castles and keeps on the ridges and passes.

Lorenvale was destroyed when a group of Loidites tried to mine too deep into their side of the mountain. They worked some horrible sorcery, and the ancient spirit of the mountain, fed on the blood of Loidites and Anstarians in the contested zone for ages, and the hatred that was bred between the people. It set off the mountain, a prehistoric volcano. Most of Lorenvale on the Anstarian side, and most of Zanados, on the Loidi side, were obliterated.

Gareth wasn't in Lorenvale, he was serving as a squire to Prince Gavin. An honorable position, but not one that sees much action. His family and their lands destroyed, the name Eloran meant nothing anymore, and he became a Ritter Hex.

Since then, he has risen to an elite level with special privelages and vows. He answers directly to the best interest of Anstaria, and has authority to act on his own in most situations (according to his mission and personal judgement), and his word is law in the face of magical threats that even the royal line can't comprehend or defend against.

What's up with Autoing my character. I demand a retraction and apology for the action before I post any further. that was just rude, even if it was within tthe right of the Ritter Hex I do not think an auto strike without the right to avoid it or protest is very fair.

I did nothing to deserve that. I played by Gavin's rules and put the item away with no intention to use it further.

If that's a righ tof teh Hex. TELL EVERYONE of it, make it public knowledge. Please.

As long as you already did then it's fine.

But in fairness I ask that he respect my response to it, which is a reasonably legitimate one. Someone lightly armored and unarmed can easily slip fully armored knight's grasp, which he did but he made no hostile action toward them. Respecting teh fact they're just oding their job, and that's what he's trying to do as well. He might be a cold, icy bastard but he does keep to the letter of agreements.

I'm not going to apologize. This is called 'roleplaying'. I'm not doing anything to you. My character is doing something to your character, totally justified by your actions and by my character's reasoning.

I think your character came into the situation foolishly, was wholly disrespectful to his hosts, and deserved a good ass whooping. It's like carrying a gun into a plane and trying to promise you won't be shooting anyone if they just let you keep the gun.

One thing I've never liked about freeform is that nothing actually 'happens'. Anyone can just say, "Oh, I dodged." What's so wrong with having your character be in a cell for a little bit, then you have to think up a way out.

I don't think it would be good roleplaying of MY character to allow Reina to keep the ring. He can stay standing, I suppose, because there's no way to resolve a fight in freeform. Let's say that I hit him in the face, grabbed him, took the ring, then he broke free.

I'll give it back, but it's a security risk, and my character is like the head of security right now, get it?

Then give it back when everything's over and done with or you'll be receiving a bill for it :3

And I don't like it when people auto me. I'm fair when it comes to battles, I'll take hits on the basis I'm also dealing them. If you have to -mode in my eyes then you're insecure in your ability to fight, but to each their own.

And Reina disrespects everyone because everyone disrespects him for not being totally human. The one who needs the asskicking here is the woman he came in with :p so please direct your animosity toward her.

Masako's been rude, but hasn't used magic.

The problem with RPing a fight scene is that NO ONE WINS.

We'd need to have the DM judge it or something, the only way to end a freeform fight is if one guy decides to lose.

I have a feeling that Chocy would step in before it got too outrageous. She seems to be a good GM ^_^

I'd trust her to make the call, myself.

And the ritter hex honestly should hate them both. they both are "magical" beings because of inhuman lineage or are they looking past that? since it's something they had no choice in?

I'm reminded of an infamous example that was related to me one day. A guy got in a Forum RPing fight. He ended up trussed up like a turkey, bound to a chair, and with a gun pressed to his head. The assailant pulls the trigger, and the bound man dodges the shot. Followed next post by mocking and the assailant pulling the trigger again, same situation, and the victim being only "Knocked out" by it.

Compare this to something I did. Another RP, my character is leading a small team to strike out at a battlefield. Up comes a gimp with a cane, and a flintlock pistol. My character, and his team, rush him. He fires, ends up its some magical/alchemical high explosive round that hits the NPC next to my character in the head.

I posted something next like "My character dies in the blast". Everyone is amazed my character isn't immune to explosions going off about 2 feet away from him. They pester me to do a saving throw type roll. Which I passed and resulted in me saying the explosion tossed me aside, slammed me into a rock, and took me right out of the fight.

That's how it should work Arc. What you did. iif you dont' want your char to die, at least your action to take them out of the fight was realistic

That's all well and good, but I think if reasonably done, your character can and should react appropriately. But that also requires that the person who started it acted appropriately. That's why actions are described well. The Ritter Hex should have described what he did exactly in order to render Reina into the state she was in. Basically more detail. Yes, it could have lead to a small fight scene or what have you, but details are the sticking point. However, to me it seems that Reina is little more than a glorified NPC and those don't have as much rights of survival as PCs. But that's just me.

Correction: Reina's a male.

He's got a female name because when he was born his mother was blind and overexcited and the midwife jumped to conclusions, leading to a mistaken nominclature. Its' why he works; he wants to pay for a surgery to restore her sight in Loidi.

Uh, I know this is a nice fantasy setting, but I dont' think they're advanced enough for operations like that.

Considering I was said owner of the gimp character I think I have some insight into Arc's thinking, because I too agree with it.

You can not make foolish actions and not expect repercussions. Your permission is not needed.

If you act the fool then you will be treated the fool.

From now on, with fights or magic battles, or anything like that

Anything involving such a situation will be talked out in PM or here before hand. No character is over powerful, so I will watch any fights. If any character is dodging all fights, godmodding or autoing another's character, I will step in. And I don't want to have to do that.

Nihil, that may be so but only noobies auto-hit other people's characters. You wouldn't want to look the fool yourself would you.

and I agree wholeheartedly Chocolate. Fights in this RP are invariably going to break out I believe so it's good to have some form of guideline to them.

And that also may be so about the operation but operations to remove cataracts I'd think are available depending on where you go.

Raiden, I come from the school of thought that it is better to take a hit and experience some damage instead of just auto dodging everything.

Almost all of my years spent rping have been in combat rping situations. I have books on martial arts mechanics with step by step instructions so I can present information in a clear and logical progression. I have books on weapons and armour of many different ages because I have a deep seated respect for such technology and the earnest desire to present it as accurately as possible.

Auto-hitting or dodging don't even come into my world all that much because I'm good enough to make moves which I know will more then likely hit and I'm mature enough to roll with the punches to prevent things from becoming a no-youing match.

Surgery to remove cataracts was something Romans could do. Not the most pleasant experience due to the general lack of pain meds.

Nihil I'm in the same boat you are on combat. Let's just leave it at that.

And that's true but doctors still charge an arm and a leg to do it properly

What character of yours is this NPC related to?

Because if it's your Baroness then hell you can pretty much command a doctor to do it and pay out of your deep pockets.

If it's your soldier of fortune then with how you drummed his skills up and what high pay he takes you'd think he'd have enough. Or would have at least earned a favour to have it taken care of.

Characters here, at least nobles, have little in the way of things that they can not do on an economic level. Unless its against someone of a higher station.
