Felicity had been blind for years before her parents threw her out. Her slim frame was hidden under a small pink dress that came to her knees and flattered her shape. She was a tall girl with long brown hair and blue-green-brown eyes. Her legs moved in a steady rhythm as she walked and she seemed confident. She wasn't quite confident enough to know she was safe, she just hoped she was.

The vampire gang had gathered around her quickly and she had realised only once she bounced off the leader. Her cry was muted and panicked.

"Oh god."

The feel of the vampire's grip on her had drawn a terrified yell from her.

"HELP."

Her family had ignored her and she tried weakly to pull away, her stick hitting the ground as it was torn from her grip. Her plae skin was already beginning to bruise.

Henry watched the woman leave her residence, waiting for others to follow her. She never went alone, always escorted because of her condition. He frowned when he realized no one was coming with her this time, a frown that deepened as she passed him, completely unaware that he was there. Felicity was her name and she was blind. He’d discovered her family one day three years ago and had become intrigued by their daughter, making a point of keeping tabs on her to see that she was safe. Call it stalking, or even over protectiveness. It didn’t matter to Darren. As an ancient vampire, he’d seen many families come and go but none had caught his eye the way this one had and he suspected it was because of the Felicity. Her beauty and innocence had grabbed at him and he couldn’t pull away.

He didn’t understand why she was out her walking by herself but he would watch over her. Turning, he began to follow her from a distance, trailing her for a few blocks. She was quiet and confident and he took the time to admire her trim figure and beautiful pink dress. He saw them move in from a distance and sensed what they were immediately. Vampires. A hiss left his body when he realized they were moving in on her, no doubt prepared to assault her and then make a meal of her. He was moving even before her terrified scream reached his lips, running across the concrete in a blur of motion. There were four of them to his one but he had the advantage of age on his side and, for vampires, age often meant strength, which was the case for Henry. He took out their leader first, wrapping an arm around his neck and ripping him away from Felicity, slamming him into the wall so hard his spine snapped. A wrench of his arms tore his neck from his shoulders immediate. Henry tossed him aside and moved on the other gang members in a whir of motion. Two more went down before they knew what hit them and the four was smart and took off running. He turned immediately to Felicity and reached out to steady her. “It’s ok” he murmured to her softly. “The men that attacked you are gone.” He didn’t tell her that he’d killed three of them; chances are she heard the fight and could make that leap on her own. “Let’s get you out of this alley and into the open, ok?”

She had continued to cry as he moved to touch her, her body stilling under his touch slowly. The softness of his touch on her skin had steadied her, the feel of his words and breath against her ear calmed her the last little bit that she needed. She had swallowed, once then twice. "Thank you." Her voice was rough and she looked up into his eyes, unseeing but trusting. His last words had gained no real responce, just a nod before she followed him, her stick left on the ground before she paused. "My.... I... I had a stick." She spoke softly, nervously. Her voice caught in her throat. She had felt some sense of recognition at his touch and his words, now she remained tense.

She could sense he was different but she found that she liked it. "Who... who are you?" The question came softly. Shyly almost. She felt like she knew him somehow. "I feel like I know you." She had reached out to find his face, finding a cheek slowly, her fingers trailing over his face before she spoke again. "H..." The word caught in her throat and she sighed softly. "Henry." She spoke softly, his name coming easily. "Henry is that you??"

Henry felt her calm under his touch and smiled softly. She was a brave young woman and trusting too. In this case, that was a good thing, for both of them. “You’re welcome” he murmured in response to her comment, smiling wider when she looked at him. Though he knew she couldn’t see him, he imagined that she felt the warmth of his smile even if that wasn’t the case. They had begun walking when she mentioned her stick so he paused, looking around. “It’s right here” he murmured again, letting go of her for just a second so he could retrieve the stick and place it in her hand.

They exited the alley next and moved into a more public area. The bodies in the alley would turn to dust shortly, leaving no trace behind of what they had been. That was best for everyone. No evidence of a crime meant no hassles later. He turned to her as she spoke and stood very still as her hand reached out and touched him. It explored his cheek for a moment, familiarizing herself through touch. He smiled when she spoke his name, letting her feel the wrinkles in his skin the movement caused. “Yes, Felicity” he answered softly. “It’s me, Henry. I was out for a walk when I heard your scream and came to see if I could help. I’m glad I did.” He knew he’d lied a little there but he didn’t want to alarm her if she thought he was stalking her. He wasn’t really. He had just been curious. Looking around, he saw a bench nearby under a street light. “Let’s sit down Felicity” he said as he led her over to it and sat down, pulling her down next to him. “What are you doing outside by yourself? You never walk alone.”

Her fingers had wrapped around the stick, her smile softly spreading. "Thank you." As he spoke and smiled she could feel the way his muscles moved, her fingers slowly trailing over his cheek again. His words drew a thrill to her veins and she smiled again, glad she'd been found by someone she knew and trusted. She needed to feel safe and he always had made her feel safe. She had allowed him to lead her to the seat, finding it first with her hands before sitting down, her legs crossing at the ankle, the way she'd been trained to sit. His last words had drawn tears and she moved to wipe them away, her hand shaking as she did so.

"My... They disowned me." Her voice shook badly enough that she took a pause to swallow and gain control. "They bought me a house but they don't want me to stay with them, to mention their names any more." Her words came quickly, sadly and showing the pain she felt. All the pain and remorse and self-loathig she'd kept hidden for 26 long years. "Whoi would want a cripple like me..."

Henry’s head whipped around to stare at her as she spoke, her words sending shock throughout his body. Her parents had disowned her? In his three years of observation, he’d always sensed that her family cared for her but when he stopped and thought about it, he remembered thinking that they seemed to be more aloof these past few months, doing less and less with her. It was clear from the way her voice shook that she had not wanted this freedom.

He turned his body towards her, reaching out and taking her hand in his. “I’m sorry to hear that” he murmured softly. “I…” he paused, organizing his thoughts. “I’m glad they bought you a house at least” he murmured. “You’ll be able to live on your own now and experience new freedoms.” Even as he said the words, he knew that she didn’t want that. He was trying to think of something positive to say to her though while his heart was beating a mile a minute thinking about the dangers she’d be in now. Her last words made him squeeze her hand gently. “You’re not a cripple Felicity” he murmured. “Not in my eyes at least. Yes, you are blind but you have strengths in other areas that most people don’t have.”

His gentle nature and kind words had drawn more tears to her eyes, tears she didn't bother to stop, letting them fall. His touch on her hands, his warm hands around hers, made her feel safer. She knew what she needed but she didn't dare ask for it. She knew he was only being kind, he was always so kind, and she knew it would be taking a risk to ask him home. Ever. Even more so now. She had spoken anyway, his last words giving her the bravery she needed to say the words. "Would you..." Her voice faltered and she cleared her throat nervously. "Henry... would you come home with me?" The question was soft and timid, shy to say the least. He might think she had other strengths but she wasn't so sure and she needed him, she knew she needed him.

The words came without warning. "I... I need someone to be there." She spoke softly, the words brusting from her heart without her mind having any control now. "I can't sleep alone, I can't be alone... I..." Her words faltered and she fell silent, body shaking as she cried, clearly sure he'd say no.

Henry saw the tears tumble from her eyes, streaking down her cheeks as they blazed a path towards the ground. Without thinking, he reached out with one hand and ran his thumb softly across one cheek, then the next, wiping away her tears. Her skin was so soft, his thumb glided across it with ease, caressing the wetness away with a soft touch. He pulled back as her first words tumbled out, her voice catching briefly before continuing, the emotion behind them strong and explosive. His heart swelled in both joy and grief and when more tears fell, this time in a torrential stream, he simply pulled her towards him and enveloped her in his strong arms, letting her shake against him as she cried.

He’d always liked Felicity and feeling her in his arms this way was more rewarding than anything he could have imagined. He didn’t know if she truly needed help or not but it was clear that she thought she did and he had a choice to make. Accept her offer to come home with her, to sleep with her, and perhaps do other things with her…..or do nothing. Deep down, he knew do nothing was not an option, not with the time he had invested in watching out for her over the last three years. He also knew he wasn’t ready for everything she offered either, partly because she was vulnerable right now and really didn’t know what she was asking and partly because they were so different. She had no idea that he was a vampire, a creature of the night, and would probably be scared silly if she did. He could, however, offer a compromise. “Felicity” he murmured as he held her. “You and I, we only barely know each other, but I feel close to you. I would like to walk you home tonight, to make sure you get there safely, and I will stay with you tonight, though not in your bed. I will make sure you are safe tonight and when you awake in the morning, we can talk further if you’d like. That is all I can offer now.” He fell silent then, his hands running up and down her back lightly as he held her, waiting to hear what she said.

As warm arms closed around her she had buried her head into his neck, letting herself cry. His warmth drew her to calm slowly. His soft warm words had drawn a smile and she sighed softly. "Oh Henry." She murmured, kissing his neck softly. "You have no idea how much I needed to hear that." Her words were soft before she smiled and spoke quietly. "Just stay." Her words were soft, nervous and shy. "Please?" The fear was clear in bright eyes and she pulled back to look him in the eyes. "Please?" She prodded again.

It was clear she'd not take no for an answer. As he was silent she looked at him and spoke quietly. "I just need to know you're there." She spoke nicely, sensing that Henry was likely nervous. "I should warn you I know exactly what you are... what... they were." A pause fell before she added. "My family has annoyed a lot of families." She paused then added. "A lot of vampires... werewolves..." She paused then added. "I'm not stupid."

His skin tingled from her soft kiss to his neck, placed there gently by tender lips. He kept his hands on her as she pulled back, letting them slide down her back to land on her hips, his fingers lightly grasping her dress. He stared into her sightless eyes, the white milky film virtually shimmering from the tears she had shed, and swallowed hard. Her pleas plucked at his heart like fingers on a finely tuned violin. “I will stay the night Felicity” he murmured as his gaze fell to her lips, lips that he ached to kiss but would not.

Her next words made the hair on the back of his neck stand at attention, almost as if he had hackles that had risen. Stunned into complete silence as she continued, he could only stare, his mouth hanging open, glad that she couldn’t see how stupid he looked in that moment. She was right about her family of course. They were a family of power but they were human and not aware of the creatures that walked the earth with them. They had angered many families in just the three years he’d been watching them and he knew at least two of them had members that walked in the immortal circles. That thought gave him pause to wonder if the attack tonight had come from one of those rival families, a way of driving a stake into the heart of Felicity’s family by raping and killing her. If so, they were not aware that she had been disowned and that her family cared nothing for her now. Realizing he hadn’t spoken in some time, Henry closed his mouth and reached up to cup her chin. “How do you know what I am, Felicity?” he asked gently.

"You smell... different." She spoke softly, sweetly. "I just... You smell different." She shrugged slightly. "I'm not afraid of you Henry." Her words were powerful but sweetly spoken, her mind whirring at the fact he had allowed her to know that she had guessed right. She had spent a while honing her sense of smell and she had soon learnt the difference between Human and... Not Human. She didn't know why or how... but she knew she was right.

"I'm not afraid."

Henry blinked when she described how she knew. Then a smile rolled across his face. He smelled different. He had to resist the urge to sniff his underarms and not laugh and it was a hard thing to do. He knew what she meant of course. No doubt the vampiric virus changed his body chemistry just enough to give off a different odor than ordinary humans. Most people wouldn’t notice but someone blind like Felicity, whose other senses would be heightened to compensate for her vision loss, might very well pick up on it.

He considered her words and sighed. “I’m glad you’re not afraid of me Felicity” he murmured “but you should be afraid of my kind. Vampires are not noble creatures as a whole. Some of us are but there are many, like those you met in the alley, who are not.” He grew silent for a bit, staring off into the darkness, then stood. “Let’s get you home” he added, pulling her to her feet and sliding his arm into hers.

She had allowed him to pull her up and link her arm through his. He had been soft spoken and she sighed quietly. "I know. I try not to come out at night but father." Her words fell away and she sighed, shifting closer to him instead, her hand tightening around her stick, a comfort impulse she'd had for a few years now. She found that she liked the new smell of Henry, he smelt to her like safety where the others had smelt of violent need and greed. A need that frightened her even now. She had spoken quietly again. "Father sent me out... I had no choice."

He felt her shift closer, the warmth of her body seeping into his skin and spreading flames throughout him. “Your father is an ass” he murmured “to send you to your new home in the dark, unescorted. The dark is not safe for a beautiful woman such as yourself, regardless of your condition.” He still couldn’t believe her parents had disowned her, discarding her like a used meat bone or food scraps. Henry slipped his arm out from around hers and moved it to her waist, tucking her in closer to his side. It was a protective move meant to keep her safer but it also sent sparks arcing through his body at their touch. “We’ll get you home safe and sound so you can rest easy and get some sleep.”

Henry's arm around her waist had drawn a small sigh of relief from her. His words had made her heart beat faster over and over again. "Please stay." Her words were soft, her smile sweetly shy. His tenderness and soft words had made her smile. "Just... promise you'll stay." She didn't care what people thought about her and she spoke quietly. "I don't care what people think about me." A smile pulled at her lips again and she spoke gently. "I just... I need you there." She had always needed him and now she made it clearer. "I've always needed you there."

Henry glanced down at her, letting his eyes wander over her face, then her figure, taking in her beauty. Felicity was younger than himself in appearance by many years but he could tell that didn’t bother her since appearances meant nothing to a blind person and, quite truthfully, it didn’t bother him either. Age was an entirely different concept to a vampire and he had lived for centuries once he’d been turned. “I promise I will stay with you” he murmured, bending down so his words caressed her ear gently. He wasn’t entirely sure what he was promising now. He had originally only said he’d sleep in her house, not share her bed, but the more she made it clear that she wanted him there, the more his resolve slipped. He did not want to take advantage of Felicity though, no she meant more to him than that and though he knew he could sleep with her and even make her forget that it even happened, he did not want to do that.

She had kept walking, finding his soft words made her smile. She felt safe and sound with him more than she had felt normally. Still she found that his gentle words soothed her panic every time it tried to rise. As they drew closer to her home she had smiled softly. "I may need a little help from you to get the keys in the door." She spoke softly. "I tend to drop them." The admittance came with a shy blush and she sighed softly, smelling the air and the mysterious aroma that was Henry. She found that she liked him. A lot. He made her feel safe and he seemed to be determined to be a gentleman. She spoke softly again now, nervously. "I need you to stay in my bed with me, I never feel safe and I'm just so... so tired." The admittance had made the blush worse and she found herself leaning slightly more into his arms, feeling safe and comfortable. Her foot had slipped however and she had gripped his arm hard, yelping softly.

He smiled when she mentioned that she’d need his help with her keys. It made sense and he liked helping Felicity, even little things like that. He knew it took a lot for her to admit a weakness like that; she was a proud woman after all but he was glad she felt comfortable enough with him to trust him with that sort of knowledge. The more he talked to her, and walked with her, the more he found himself drawn to her in a way that he hadn’t previously considered. Or at least not consciously considered. Subconsciously? Who knew. When she mentioned her bed again, he glanced at her, wondering if she had more on her mind than just sleeping. The deep blush across her cheeks caused him to raise an eyebrow and quirk his lips. He considered her words and decided that there really was no harm in sharing her bed. It didn’t mean that anything would happen after all; surely he could avoid that. He just didn’t want her to feel like she was being taken advantage of, that was all there was to it. “I will share your bed with your Felicity” he murmured softly, knowing she would hear. That acceptance caused his heart to beat a little faster, pounding out a fast rhythm in his chest. When she slipped on the ground and almost fell, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close, feeling her body mold to his. “Are you ok Felicity?” he asked, his mouth so very close to hers in this new position.

She had sensed he was smiling and smiled herself. Her eyes slid closed for a moment as she took a deep breath. Slowly but surely she was beginning to really fall for him, completely and unchangably. She knew he wasn't the safest man to fall for but she felt like he could make her life better and less annoying, less troublesome. His reactions to her near fall had drawn a soft gasp of relief from her. "Oh thank god." Her words came softly. His question had made her laugh softly and she shook her head, knowing he would either see or feel it, maybe even both. "Thank you Henry." She spoke softly. "I'm alright... only because you knew to catch me." Her words were soft and sweet, honest all the same. She couldn't help but be honest with him. He was good for her and good to her. She had leant up a little to kiss him, soft and slow, tender but not pressing for anything more. She had stilled as she did so, smiling sweetly at him before she added. "My hero." The words were easy enough that she giggled softly and nuzzled his neck slightly. "My sweet Henry." She knew that he would respond to her words and smiled slightly. "I love this feeling."

Henry blushed when she thanked him and called him her hero. They were silly words, especially that last one, since he’d only caught her fall but he liked them all the same. She had a way about her, once of innocence and laughter, fun and relaxation. He liked being in her company. It felt nice, almost as if it was right, though he didn’t believe that last part. He was a vampire, a creature of the night, not a mortal to be loved and love in return. How she sensed that their mouths were so close he’ll never know, some heightened sense of awareness perhaps or maybe just a lucky guess. He didn’t know and didn’t care because the press of her lips against his drove all thought from his mind. It was tender and loving, not demanding in any way. She stole just a teeny bit of him then and didn’t ask for anything more. He shivered as she nuzzled his neck, then pulled back slightly. “W-what …what was that for?” he asked quietly, still holding her against him, the feel of her breasts pressing into his chest slightly distracting.

She had smiled softly, looking up at him with blank eyes. "You saved me... you could have left me." She spoke softly, tenderly. "You saved me." the words were repeated softer now, sweetly so. "I know you could have killed me.... or let them kill me and then drink my blood." She spoke warmly now, her smile sweetly shy even now, even after the kiss. "Besides... I've always wondered how it would feel to be kissed by you... or to kiss you. Now I know." Her smile grew a little goofy and she nuzzled his neck again softly before they walked on a little more, the final few steps. She had rooted in her small bag and produced the key, offering him it. "Let us in." She spoke softly, seemingly aware she needed to invite him in with her and still not scared. At all.

Henry studied her as she spoke, caressing her face with his eyes, tracing over her cheekbones and her lips, learning the contours of her skin. Kill her? NO. He could never have done that. Thought a creature of the night, Henry was not violent unless he had to be and he would never take an innocent’s life, especially not Felicity’s. She could not know that though. True, he could have let the others kill her or have their way with her but that was also not his way. He was one of a few vampires that stood between his kind and the mortals, dedicated to stopping innocent violence and prey. They needed to feed but they did not need to kill or maim or rape and he did his best to ensure that his kind followed the laws laid down for them by their council. “I could never kill you Felicity…or let anyone else kill another innocent.” He smiled when she talked about always wanting to kiss him. In truth, he’d wondered what that would be like also but he wasn’t willing to admit that yet. He took the key she offered him and moved to her door, quietly unlocking it. He opened it and led them inside, his hand on the small of her back, guiding her.

His soft words had drawn another smile to her lips and she smiled softly. "You are such a gentleman." Her words came gently and happily, her trust in him bright in her eyes. As he let them in she went inside, turning to him and speaking softly. "Please lock the door behind you." The words were quiet and her tone was not in the least commanding, more a soft begging tone. She needed to feel safe and even with him here she knew leaving the door open was a really bad idea. Bad enough to get her killed if she wasn't careful. As she'd moved into the light it had shone on a few of the small bruises on her body, bruises inflicted by the other vampires and her father. She was silent as she set her stick by the door, moving closer to him slowly once she had heard the door lock. Her hands had found his chest and she had let her hands slide up to caress his face, her next words soft, sweet and honest. "You are so very handsome." She meant it and she felt a happiness she had not felt before, ever.

He smiled at her words and considered her gentleman comment. It was as good a way to describe him as any other he supposed. He could live with that. When she asked him to shut and lock the door, he heard the fear in her voice and immediately did it, making sure she heard the lock click audibly shut. As she moved towards him, he saw the bruises on her body and grimaced. The idea of her being hurt angered him inside. His breath hitched as her hands found his face and explored it. Her comment caused his lips to quirk. “But…Felicity…you have no idea what I look like” he said as his hands traced her face in return, his fingers traveling lightly over her cheeks and gracing her lips before moving down. He ran a finger over her bruises lightly. “Did all of these come from the vampires in the alley?” he asked. He didn’t think so since some of them were older.

"Mostly." The word, a lie, slid from her lips easily and she looked down and away, quite clearly ashamed of herself and what had happened to her. She was not going to talk about what her family had done. All the same tears came to her eyes and she winced softly, trying to wipe them away, failing miserably.

(OOC: o_O that was pants... sorry)
